Dell Pro Max 16/18 Plus (2025 model) pre-release discussion — MB16250, MB18250

Pro Non-precision = Latitude.  This naming scheme actually makes some sense, distinguishing the business from consumer lineups without throwing away decades of name recognition associated with "XPS" and "Precision"

Precision 7520 / Xeon E3-1535m v6 / 32 gb DDR4 2666 MHz CL15 / GTX 1650 Mobile / LP156QHG-SP(V1)

Precision 7540 / i9-9980HK / 32 gb DDR4 2666 MHz CL15 / RTX 4000 / LP156QHG-SP(V1) / Delta Fans

they could just used Pro for the latitude equivalent and leave Precision as Precision for the higher tier up as it already was, so essentially the logical rename would be Latitude to Pro if a name change was so necessary, what is the equivalent entry point Inspirons named now?

the impossible is not impossible, its just haven't been done yet.

Thank you, I like that they kept all three fans!

Have you observed the fans ramping up with higher CPU usage or observed any notable throttling?

With the CPU getting most of the cooling and power and no additional thermal load I would expect the chassis to be more well behaved than the versions that also have a dedicated GPU.

BIOS updates and weekly full virus scans (ESET, have to use, company policy...) bring up the fans loud and clear.

Sometimes too many browser tabs (e.g. with animated advertising like winfuture.de) uses a few cores with high load

Visual Studio updates in sequence for 2019, 2022, 2026 and Preview and SSMS updates.

Normal work is pretty silent - but hey, whats normal anyways 😉

I would buy it again - only wishes: 1920x1200 pixels 500+ nits on my 18" and the name Dell Pro Precision 7 oder 9 😉

"Broadest PC portfolio ever"?

I already think part of their problem is that they already have too many models for each generation. How many 14" laptop models do you need to be offering at once, really? Slim down the product line, and use that leftover engineering effort to focus on polish and attention to detail. Add more spec options to each model if you think that people need options.

I’m still skeptical. It remains to be seen how close they’ll actually get to “back to their roots.”

So far, the messaging only references XPS and implicitly Precision via the new naming convention. Both lines have earned multi-generation followings, but after the recent roller coaster, there’s real ground to make up to regain trust.

And that trust isn’t tied to a name. It’s tied to a philosophy one they’ve been slowly eroding over the past few years.

the impossible is not impossible, its just haven't been done yet.

Loud and clear fans sounds like a lot of fun 😄

I happen to like the QHD resolution but I am not so sure how much my usage would cause the fans to ramp up as quite often I have a lot of tabs open and the only thing that keeps my current MSI Vector from ramping up is a very granular enthusiast fan control that Dell does not offer.

Yeah, I also miss the old naming convention, bad idea to so blatantly copy Apple.

Some time ago someone here was describing a behavior where the system locks up in sort of a throttle state until the power connector is disconnected and plugged back in. I have observed the same behavior today.

Happened to me. Did you play any audio when the lockup occurred?

Playing Helldivers II, sound coming through internal speakers. No buzzing though.
