Noticed a strange issue with NVIDIA control panel

Recommended Posts

not sure when this issue arose since i dont often venture into nvidia control panel, but it refuses to open on LTSC 2021. Tried the standard non DCH drivers but that just causes the right click context on the desktop to hang indefinately and not open at all. gaming works fine it seems, however id like for the control panel to be functional if i ever need to change anything lol

I have this issue sometimes.

  • Kill any instance of nvcplui.exe.
  • Restart service "NVIDIA Display Container LS".
  • It will normally open after that (but it is very slow to do so).

I'm also using LTSC 2021 but I have had this issue on-and-off even on regular Windows 10.  (Also, using DCH drivers.)

just tried that, in task manager Nvidia control panel shows up but closes a few seconds after. i thought windows blinds or the chris titus tweaks were at fault but at this point im at a loss.

Go in to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\NVIDIACorp.NVIDIAControlPanel_8.1.962.0_x64__56jybvy8sckqj   and pin "nvcplui.exe" to start or just click it open. If it is the same problem I had It might be a corrupted driver. A clean install might fixit or it was a windows update. I had a problem like that on my other install of windows on another drive but not sure if I fixed it. bUT PINNED TO START OR TASKBAR made it work

well ive solved the BSOD issue, i restored my system with a backup image. control panel still doesnt open but least the system is running fine now, when i can be bothered ill use one of my other laptops to make a preconfigured 2019 image i can deploy to multiple systems. that way i can choose to either use LTSC 2019 or upgrade to 2021

Interesting. I've never encountered this at all. Is this on a laptop using a mobile driver or desktop computer? Neither one of my desktops experience this issue with Windows 7, Windows 10 LTSC 2019, Windows 10 LTSC 2021 or Winduhz 11. Most of the installations are non-DCH drivers. Is the affected system hybrid graphic or exclusively NVIDIA GPU? (It could be something with the Intel iGPU driver or hybrid graphics causing the issue.)

its my frankenstein m18x R2 with the quadro p4000, the same installation has been thru a couple inplace upgrades over time and some chris titus tweaking. its also kept up to date via windows update (including the optional preview updates), which may have caused some fuckery to occur. the driver im using is 511.79 DCH, i did try to DDU and update to the current 516.25 DCH driver but thats when BSOD started occuring when opening the Epic launcher or heaven benchmark. The newer driver also had the non opening control panel issue

yeah ive never had that issue, im guessing either a combination of the chris titus tweaks or a bad windows update/multiple inplace upgrades might of broken something in my case. im just gonna run the system vanilla with GPO tweaks in place for now to see how things go (well vanilla in terms of updates/tweaks, still have it looking like vista currently)

I did notice something different regarding this driver too, that ECC State option. Could of sworn that wasnt there with my 511 drivers.

I think that started in 512, because I was looking for it to get the extra memory out of it by disabling it. Dont know if there is any performance loss but it is supposed to help in studio application accuracy or something like that I  dont do, I just want Max Performance even if it trips LOL

Thats strange, when I first encountered it it was on, so I unchecked it and needed to restart, and its been off ever since

And that was on both my m18x and m17x

So I updated Nvidia drivers to latest Quadro and win 10 21H2 latest update and Nvidia Control Panel App not opening the panel bit the shortcut I pinned to start works just fine. This is only happening on one install of win 10 on the first SSD. The 2nd install on the 2nd SSD works just fine

I dont think its a windows update issue. This started after swapping cards, gtx 1080 mxm to quadro P4000 mxm back and forth and getting impatient after trying so many driver installs and the 1080 kept failing. This was also trying to work it on 2 seperate win 10 installs on 2 seperate SSDs in the m18xr2 and then going to the m17xr4 with the GTX 1080 failing there to. Besides I just read on this forum "2022 LG Gram 16/17 announced" some great news @RS4 quote

"Nope, still using Windows 10. There are no benefits of using Windows 11 for my use case instead there are regressions. I am also liking the fact that Windows 10 is limited to just security updates with no more big feature updates which break things."

This is enough to have a BIG Celebration, in fact there should be a Parade!!!

Besides the first install on m18xr2 is not my daily driver, the 2nd is so I dont have to deal with the Nvidia control panel problem much. I keep the other install as a fallback in case of windows update issues causing HAVOK

Can confirm windows update wasnt the issue, just ran it and its fully up to date and control panel opens normally, how bizarre lol
