Classic Precision issue.  Try going to BIOS setup and disabling C-states.  It should be under the "performance" section.

I just noticed that there is a setting there about C-states and discrete graphics.  I wonder if that "feature" is involved with the dGPU "stuttering" issue that I described above...  I will experiment with it.

@brunooo84

I played with the C-states options and found that disabling dGPU C-states causes a definite hit to dGPU performance.

The top C-states option seems fine to disable.  (This one has existed in the Precision BIOS for a decade or more.)  The bottom one regarding dGPU C-states is new and seems to actually cap the dGPU speed.  Don't turn that one off.

are we running same base system? (i run 7670)
is your bios is set on ultra performance and windows is running ultimate power for the test?
(cool plan in bios will restrict dGpu performance, also in bios turn off hybrid mode)

the impossible is not impossible, its just haven't been done yet.

I think so. You can see my system in my signature.

As I did not do any other changes on the system yet, I have in my Win10 out of the box only "balanced" but set Dell Optimizer to Ultra Performance and Windows slider to best performance.

What is really odd - I just re-run TimeSpy and now my graphics score went down from 10k to now 4.8k 🙄 As I said....I did no change between the two test runs.

it has to be an intentional limit.

correct me if i'm wrong,
didn't i read somewhere on here that you turned off turbo in bios?

indeed we do :)

double check your bios settings, try to match what i suggested above!

you might want to make sure these basic settings are also in place,

In NVidia control panel > “adjust image settings with preview” menu,

Check “use my preference…” and drag the slider to performance, hit apply!
next on the same menu leave the slider where it is
select “use the advance 3d image settings” tab, hit apply!

Move to “manage 3d settings” menu "global settings" tab and make sure

“power management mode” is set to “prefer max performance”

“texture filtering” is set to “high performance”

“vertical sync” is set to “off”

Move to “program settings” tab and select 3Dmark.exe,

make sure the above are set for that application as well,

Went to the BIOS and disabled Turbo Boost 3.0 (which I enabled for testing only). This will enable Nvidia Dynamic Boost again - not knowing if this is used at all.

Then I switched in BIOS to Ultra Performance. Thought when this is done in Windows through Dell Optimizer, this will be the same. So the BIOS option is just the default one, until you change it with the Dell tool in Windows..?

Also switched off hybrid graphics now.

My Graphics score went up by only 300 from 10030 (out of the box) to 10342, but my CPU score did increase from 8850 to 12027.......

that's huge, roughly 50% increase in cpu performance!

it also appears that your score is the highest on your segment,
you got "legendary" score and the previous highest is lower than your run,
congrats and well done!

these scores are not too far from mine (i did apply LM TIM back for testing),
let it cool down bit and try again (see my second run score)
i also added few suggestions for you to improve NVidia performance, see my post above,

Thanks for the Nvidia settings, I applied them.

I still was assuming that after my previous changes, the graphics score should go up, but this almost stayed on where I had it out-of-the-box.

Instead my CPU score went up......

I'll give TimeSpy another try now.

ahh... you also want to download the latest game ready driver from NVidia site (don't use dell driver),
the top triangular exclamation sigh in orange above your score, that means your driver is not certified,
after you update your driver you should have a better performing driver and certified green sign,

no need for the gforce experience module, just the driver itself,
select custom install, uncheck experience leave the rest checked,
at the bottom of the frame check "perform a clean install" and off you go,

after make sure your NVidia settings you just applied didn't revert,

Yes, but I was assuming that the difference should not be that much.....

But I did not open the Laptop yet to do anything on the paste or cooling pads.

I did re-run time spy and the Nvidia settings and driver update did change nothing. Score is the same, except that it is now showing as valid. Thank you!

I don't have anything installed yet. Wanted to test and improve first, before installing things.

Also still running on 8GB SODIMM, having the 64GB here on my desk.

So for getting the system cooler/more CPU power, do I really need to use LM, or will repadding with quality pads and/or repasting do the job also?

Also still running on 8GB SODIMM

that's another 50% performance left on the table!!!
especially in mixed application like nvidia and cpu working together,

one of the reasons my cpu score went up from 9k to where it is now is due to adding a second 8g sodimm ram stick, for a total of 16gb ram and along the way activating dual channel mode which increases performance,

i wanted to save on Dell's expensive ram and get aftermarket 64gb kit which should arrive by the end of the month, i ordered my unit with only one 8gb sodimm stick, my replacement unit arrived so i borrowed the ram from it to test, and sure enough my cpu jumped from 9k to 15.5k just by the ram and dual channel merits,

wow then I will find time tomorrow to install the RAM! 🙂

I did the exact same thing with the 8GB Dell configuration.

But regarding the heat - would it make sense to repad or is only LM bringing me to a cooler system?

Just wondering - is your replacement unit any better?

PS: But still odd that you had 9k with i9-12950 and I have 12k with i7-12850 and both using only 8GB...

LM does seem to improve performance though i was also able to get the same score in CB23 without LM,
i will test the new system once i resolve all the issues on this one i will be sending back,

with the new system i plan to apply all tweaks and vbios to a none modified system and take it from there,

i run the new system for bit it seem to run very cool out of the box compared the first unit,

this unit also had some screen issues when i first turned it on it went black and refused to run plugged in,
i accidently turned it on as i was packing it back unplugged and it run, as soon as i plug in the cord it refused to boot again, i messed around with bios and did a full reinstall to resolve that but i already called support and they issued the new unit before i did all that,

my intensions is not to run the system at its highest setting daily, i do want to find out what's the platforms capability is, i will run the system daily on cool settings and keep things on low profile until i need to run a heavy load,

not too shabby id say, you beat your previous score 😉

cant wait to see your results after you add a second stick,

Just noticed that the 3DMARK score is slightly over yours, and interesting GPU is exactly at 102W and total System Power in CB23 was at 232W with CPU peak exactly at 157W.

I still don't get it, why during the 10m run, it "idles" at 75W when the temps are not near around the maximum....

Don't know if the first unit was just to hot, or if the new unit has some improvements. Would be interesting to know why it is running cooler.

or if the new unit has some improvments

i too suspect there may be some config changes, will find out :)

i noticed you got a better score than i reached, that's encouraging,

pretty sure once you add the second stick you will also beat my cpu score,
which should prove these high scores can be achieved without LM, just proper settings configured,
i am also curious to find out how this will pan out with my new system without repasting etc.,

but what % improvement do you think I'd get by only adding a second stick of memory?

going by 3DMARK cpu score i saw ≥ 50% performance increase, before i added the second stick i got around 9k now 15.8k, you can scroll back you will find my earlier scores posted (i may have deleted them though from my 3DMARK account record),
