Maybe a topic for interesting tech innovations would be of interest. So starting with this:

MIT researchers have developed a portable desalination unit, weighing less than 10 kilograms, that can remove particles and salts to generate drinking water.

The suitcase-sized device, which requires less power to operate than a cell phone charger, can also be driven by a small, portable solar panel.

Their prototype generates drinking water at a rate of 0.3 liters per hour, and requires only 20 watt-hours per liter.

My mind was recently blown when I saw that they finally reached nuclear fusion ignition:

Ignition is basically the point, at which a nuclear fusion reaction becomes self-sustaining, i.e. the energy it generates is more than is needed to keep it runnning, thus generating net energy. huuuuuuuuuuuuuge milestone!

btw, its called "ignition" because thats also the point at which a condensed cloud of gas in space turns into a real star, once it gets hot and dense enough to reach nuclear fusion ignition and turn self-sustained.
