Bullit
I also vote for a Mac section in manufacturers forum. It is bad for the forum to have only PC's. Should also open an ARM section now with Qualcomms arriving. in 2024

NVIDIA and AMD both appear to be working on ARM CPUs for Windows PCs and could have something out in 2025. This can only be a good thing... More competition encourages higher innovation and lower prices. More people using Windows on ARM will force Microsoft to make Windows on ARM better. (...Do something about being able to run applications/games that use AVX instructions?) Maybe we'll get some Windows laptops that aren't terrible. Bullit
Yes it is an welcome addition. I am really fed up that a powerful PC laptop or an office one do not have a silent button to listen to music or play a movie in silence or just writing a letter. While my 199 euro tablet and my 200ish euro smartphone can.

A few members have used the OS section to discuss Apple as an OS (to which I enjoyed reading) but not a whole lot of traffic to justify creating a sub-forum for it. Same goes for ARM, no reason an official discussion thread cant be made, if there is enough traffic more than happy to make a sub-forum for it. Telegram / TS3 / Twitter 2700X to 5800X3D upgrade! Bullit
I disagree with that policy, it prevents new users setting shop in an existing inviting home.

They are welcome to make a thread, just like anyone else is. If it's in the wrong section or if they or yourself are unsure of the correct placement, more than happy to assist. The only things preventing hypothetical users from posting is a lack of interest or willpower. No one is stopping anyone from making a thread for that subject. saturnotaku
An entire sub-forum dedicated to Apple is not necessary given the comparatively much smaller user base this site has. As was stated, make a thread, or go to MacRumors. kojack
Agreed, I make a thread in the OS section talking about macs and I don't think I got a response. As for the Arm chips, look out next spring. Oryon is going to be coming like a wecking ball to laptops and tablets near you. Apple is going to lose it's one major advantage in the computing space. Will be interested to see. Just because it is an ARM CPU doesn't mean it is automatically "great" in terms of efficiency and performance, though I imagine it isn't too hard to beat x86 for efficiency. Apple has shown a consistent lead of a year or more over Qualcomm in ARM chips for phones (in terms of performance), they are competitive against the top chips coming out of Intel for laptops (in terms of performance), they can even compete against mid-range laptop discrete GPUs, and right now they basically have a lock on the 3nm chips coming out of TSMC. I am hoping that we don't see third-parties produce more ARM chips that are "efficient" but not necessarily "performant" like what we have seen so far. (Qualcomm has ARM laptop chips but they don't come close to hitting the performance that either Intel or Apple deliver. Never mind actually trying to do gaming on one of those systems.) Still like I said, competition should make things better for everyone and I am really ready for ARM to shake up the laptop space. 1 Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) • Dell Precision 7560 (work) • Full specs in spoiler block below Info posts (Windows) — Turbo boost toggle • The problem with Windows 11 • About Windows 10/11 LTSC Spoiler Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) M2 Max 4 efficiency cores 8 performance cores 38-core Apple GPU 96GB LPDDR5-6400 8TB SSD macOS 15 "Sequoia" 16.2" 3456×2234 120 Hz mini-LED ProMotion display Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 99.6Wh battery 1080p webcam Fingerprint reader Also — iPhone 12 Pro 512GB, Apple Watch Series 8 Dell Precision 7560 (work) Intel Xeon W-11955M ("Tiger Lake") 8×2.6 GHz base, 5.0 GHz turbo, hyperthreading ("Willow Cove") 64GB DDR4-3200 ECC NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB Storage: 512GB system drive (Micron 2300) 4TB additional storage (Sabrent Rocket Q4) Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 15.6" 3940×2160 IPS display Intel Wi-Fi AX210 (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3) 95Wh battery 720p IR webcam Fingerprint reader Previous Dell Precision 7770, 7530, 7510, M4800, M6700 Dell Latitude E6520 Dell Inspiron 1720, 5150 Dell Latitude CPi

From what I have been reading they are equivalent to the current M3 (non pro) chips. For a first kick at the can in the pc space that is decent. I will take it. 1 Workstation - Dell XPS 8940 - desktop creative powerhouse Mobile Workstation - Dell inspiron 5406 2 in 1 - mobile creative beast Wifey's Notebook - Dell inspiron 3169 - Little gem for our businesses
