After turbo boost, it seems to be 45W on balanced and 55-60W on ultimate performance.

18-19K in C23, so it seems it can cool the chip just fine.

- Screen (FHD) is the same as 7680's FHD screen.

- Keyboard is more like Precision 5570 than 7680, which is okay for me.
- Touchpad is haptic like a MacBook. Will take some getting used to, but so far it's good.
 

Still need to test speakers etc.

It's a good in between device for me (sysadmin) where 7680 was a big heavy and 3580 was not powerful enough.

What is your GPU?

 

Could you check the max TGP entered in the Nvidia control panel?

a2000, and it's 95W.

When testing benchmarks it seems to use about 80-90W and about 40-50W CPU (when using the GPU)

Fun question about 5680:

The laptop comes with Nvidia RTX 2000 Ada and a 165W USB-C charger.

 

If I plug in 130W dock (WD22TBS) or just 130W USB-C from 5570, it all works fine. I can't even see a performance difference in benchmarks. Windows even says everything is fine - normally it will complain if I plug something like 90W in.

Is it possible 130W is enough for a RTX 2000 Ada + i9-13900H? and 165W is just for RTX 3500+ ?

I can run CPU + GPU at the same time with 130W and pull about 130-140W according to HWMonitor from CPU + GPU alone, and seems to be the same with 165W, but i don't have my wattmeter yet.
 

Friday I will get some Wattmeter's delivered to measure total watts from power supply during benchmark with 130 + 165W. But my feeling is 130W is acutally okay?

It is likely that your battery will be heavily drained, even plugged in, with the 130W charger.

Interesting that these limits are well above the limits of the XPS 17 (9730) where the GPU is limited to 60/70W and the limit on CPU+GPU cross-loads is something like 90/95W.

 

Probably the options with stronger GPUs have a little higher TGP...maybe something between 110 and 130W.

So really only a problem if I run CPU + GPU at the same time, which I never do..

If the higher GPUs have 20-30W higher than RTX 2000 Ada, then it makes sense I can run the 130W no problem.. I think.. I will see after drain test tomorrow, but I have a feeling it won't drain at all.

Okay, I will have to eat my own words 😄

 

It will drain a little, I think it drained about 5-8% in a 30 min CPU+GPU AIDA64 stresstest with CPU+GPU pulling over 150W at times. After 30 mins it got too hot and went back to something like 30W CPU + 65W GPU and the drain stopped. So I don't think it's an issue for really, since after intel boost is done it will go to max 55W CPU, and will eventually get too hot from CPU+GPU at the same time.

So I'm happy  with the result and will keep using WD22TBS as I find it more convenient compared to WD19DCS.

With around (75+75)W on the CPU and GPU both reach thermal limits.

 

This will drain the battery even with the 165W charger... have you tested with WD19DC and verified if the system can pull more than the 165W of the original adapter?

 

By dell thermal paste application history this 5680 seems to have a good potential after a repaste, even more in the versions with vapor chamber!

Not yet, but in BIOS it does say 165W with WD19DCS plugged in, so I suspect it will get 165W max.

Might be a good idea. I unfortunetly don't have the vapor champer, seems to be reserved for RTX 3500 Ada or higher.

If the system receives the maximum of 165W it would be a disappointment...

 

@Dell-Mano_G reported some time ago that the 5680 could benefit from the higher load using WD19DC.

 

Maybe only on the stronger GPU options...

My 5760/5770 meet battery drainage when the system has a high workload, good to know Dell tried to improve the power option for the 5000 series.

Unfortunately not I have a 5680 with RTX 3500 I believe the vapour chamber is reserved for the RTX 5000 only. Performance for a GPU compute task using NVIDIA iRay was about 10% less than in the Precision 7680 with the same card so not too bad for the smaller chassis. 

 

No difference for me with the WD19DCS

What is the weight of your laptop? In the youtube review linked above the RTX 5000 model weighs 2.318kg. I'm curious how much more the vapor chamber weighs.

Good news for me today, Dell just informed me that given the problems I'm having with my Precision 7770 and the disastrous order process for this model, they were going to exchange it for a new 7780.
