Notebook Review forum archive – NBRCHIVE
Ionising_Radiation replied to Aaron44126's topic in General Discussion
I was thinking—since the subfora here mostly mirror those at NBR, perhaps there could be pinned and locked posts in each subforum linking to the corresponding archive, so that anyone who wants to restart a thread can continue on discussions. For instance, the Dell Mobile Precision (and Latitude and Vostro) subfora could both have a post linking to the NBRCHIVE equivalent. What do you guys think? P.S. It is slightly irritating that 'John Carlson''s post is near the top of the archive of the Precision/Latitude/Vostro subforums, not least with an audacious title like 'the next NBR is here'. What impudence. Last I checked on Reddit, 'laptop-forum.net' (I don't want to link to it) already has spam. What a fail. 🤣- 150 replies

Been driving our BMW G20 318i for exactly a year now. 11000 km on it so far. It's mostly city driving, so we average around 11.5 km/l. Dream cars are the facelifted M5 Competition to smoke others at the traffic signals, and the Audi A8L to float in a cloud. I wouldn't buy them where I live, though; they'd cost half a million dollars after tax.

If you guys want to post more improvements, maybe head over to the Site Suggestions subforum to post there? Incidentally, I agree with the favicon thing. @Reciever and the gang are pretty busy with the archival process, so I think we should give it some time and meanwhile, try to build up some discussion and content elsewhere on the forum.

I do wish there was some way to reach out to the old mods; they had a thankless job and performed it with aplomb. Maybe Charles might be interested in continuing as a moderator here, as might @Custom90gt and a few others...- 150 replies

There are noticeable regressions with the current chassis compared to 7X10/20/30/40 generations, though; one big disadvantage is not being able to tilt the display back all the way. I am hoping Dell finds a way to update the chassis without messing with the DGFF form factor. I would also really like a 16:10 display; there is so much bezel space wasted at the bottom of the lid. As a computer architecture nerd, this is so cool. Only thing is that it's so surprising that big.LITTLE took more than a decade to come to desktops after ARM introduced it back in 2011 (I recall wondering if my HTC One X would have it). From what I see on Reddit and on the various benchmark posts, the Alder Lake CPUs perform almost similarly at 75 W as they do at 115-130 W; coupled with the drastic boost in single- and multi-threaded performance, the conclusion is that yes, Alder Lake narrowly beats Apple M1 in terms of efficiency, too. Either way, this decade has started out very well for advancements in computing (notwithstanding COVID).

Incredible effort to save a veritable treasure trove of content, guides, images, opinions and conversations, @Aaron44126, @Sandy Bridge (incidentally, what a wonderful microarchitecture), and @Reciever for setting up EFGXT. I wish I could've contributed, but I don't have the know-how.- 150 replies

Truly the end of an era. I've removed the forum from my bookmarks and Tapatalk. At the very least, I'm glad that we have a very good archive here, as well as one on the Wayback Machine by the Archive Team; maybe we can see if we can run a CDN-run archive, see how we can get funding for that.

I've got my usual wishlist... 16:10 144 Hz 1440p 10-bit 15.6" display option GeForce RTX GPU options to complement the Core i CPU options (they already have RTX 3080 as a 'secret' option; but make it configurable openly) AMD Ryzen + RX/Radeon Pro graphics options (not likely; Ryzen has been out for 5 years now and Alder Lake has blasted past Zen 3 and even Apple M in terms of efficiency; I saw this coming) Make the palmrest aluminium/magnesium as well Bring back the 7530/7730 keyboard layout Bring back the 7530/7730 hinge design, which allowed the display to fold back to > 180°

By golly; the new CPUs are crazy. I am regretting my 7560 now...

Does EFGXT have Tapatalk integration? If not, that would be very welcome. The mobile site looks pretty nice already, but I am just quite used to the Tapatalk interface.
