It’s a heavy game. I did not have HWinfo open, I may run again and see what my max power usage is. Probably gonna be like sub 800 watts. My water temps were fairly high. My chiller can’t sustain 100-150 watts cpu power, and 700+ watts GPU power simultaneously. I mean, it can but my water temp right now is 18C.
As for tinkering, I just turned the graphics down 😂 and FOV too lol. It still says “High” textures, and “Ultra” Raytracing “DLSS” off. Set NVCP to high performance image quality. I gave me +3 more FPS lol.

Sheesh, @Mr. Fox is ~57% higher performance with his 4090 vs your KP 3090.
Me looking at your results while sipping my latte... 🤣
Me pushing the down button on my chiller. 🙂 Now he is 44% faster 😂 (I didn’t actually push the down button) I did some tinkering though.

This game is nuts 700 watts easily @2.2Ghz on the OG 3090KP. My power percent says 77% which should equate to 770 watts. I’m not sure why that is.Heres mine. And a quick shot of the “Super Nintendo” style graphics Cyberpunk 2077 provides us 😂

I hate being tempted like this.
This is an amazing DEAL!!! $1,700 bucks and already water blocked!! The RTX4080 version is $1300
I DONT NEED IT, I DONT NEED IT! I DONT NEED IT!! 🫣

Right but, it’s still only going to hold up so long. Maybe 1 year and then performance is going to degrade pretty quickly. I did my sons Xbox Series X, and we have got some huge gains in better temps and smoother performance. With standard thermal paste the exhaust heat was around 125F. Then with Liquid Metal the exhaust heat went to high 160’s.
It’s really cool. But after the 2nd round of re-doing Liquid Metal, I went back to thermal paste on my sons Xbox. I am not taking that thing apart every 10-12 months or sooner lol.
“DAAAAAAAADDDDDDDD!!!!!!!”

The voltage slider in MSI Afterburner does work. It just works differently. If you set it to 100% it’s going to boost your core clocks by +15-30Mhz. You also need to set your voltage slider to 100% when you are undervolting for proper function.

I’m sorry but, the 4090 Matrix Liquid Metal ain’t gonna hold up long. After 6 months or 1 year it’s gonna need some sanding and fresh LM. Especially LM on bare copper.

It is interesting how different experiences can be. My first, second and third EVGA motherboards were replacements for failed ASUS motherboards that took more than a month to get replaced under warranty. I have owned only three EVGA power supplies and none had any issues. One 850W G (gold) PSU and two 1600W SuperNova P2 (Platinum) and never any issues. I did have the Q-code led fail on the Z590 Dark, but it still functioned correctly as a product. It took 3 business days, zero downtime, and cost me nothing (cross-ship RMA). It would have taken 3 to 6 weeks to get it replaced by ASUS and I would have incurred the shipping cost to send the product to them. Chances are also good they would come us with a lame excuse to deny warranty, like bent CPU socket pins that were not bent when sent, or a speck of thermal paste on the PCB or edge of the CPU socket (not in the pins) as we have seen more than once by people we know.
Speaking of 4K gaming, I think I met my annual quota for gaming. In typical Mr. Fox fashion, I hardly ever play games, but when I do I binge on something I like. Most of the time it is play for an hour or less, lose interest and uninstall the title to make drive space for something I like.
Yesterday I binged on Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The price finally fell to a point I was willing to pay ($20). I installed it and played the entire campaign from start to finish in one day. It was buttery smooth on my 4K 144Hz ASUS display. (Yes, it is a good ASUS product. There are a few.) Set on max quality settings with my CPU set at 59x on P-cores, 47x on E-cores, memory at 8200 and 4090 stock clocks +100mV and max power limits averaging ~225 FPS, often over 300 FPS. Cold War used 13GB of system memory and 16GB of VRAM to deliver a top notch experience.
This is also another example of mixed experiences. I have almost every COD release and have thoroughly enjoyed every single title in the franchise. But, many people don't like COD.
I enjoy the COD campaigns!! I will set the hardest difficulty. And it usually takes me a week to get through. It’s so much fun. Being on hardest difficulty, you retry things over and over and over again. And it stretches the play time and dollar without re-playing through something. I have not bought those new ones yet. But I beat the regular COD MWF2 campaign from 2021 or 2022. It was fantastic.Speaking of EVGA, they are sending me a new thermal pad kit for my 3090KP HC 🙂 their thermal pads are great. And my warranty is almost expired, so it’s liquid
Metal time. This service is so convenient because I don’t have to go research pad size and waste $50-$60 dollars lol.

First. Asus should have never ever used Micron mem chips on Strix in the 10xx series. And as a footnote... 99% of all reviews of 1070 Strix use Samsung memory dies. And Asus didn't offer maxed out TGP as some other 1070 flagship cards. Why do that with their best xx70 cards they have in their huge portefolio of cards? Same cooler and pcb as their xx80Ti cards but castrate their flagship in same way as the other brands cheapo low end cards from same SKU series. That's perverse! The cards cooling can easly handle 350W power consumption. And why not offer dual 8-pins power connectors as som of the better xx70 cards? Because they wanted to cut cost?
2nd. Not even sure Msi will bother with 2 mem boards. Why did they scrap that models for firs gen Z790 boards? They cater to the gamer kids. And why disn't MSI want offer 600W vbios? Why did they take away/remove the first vbios version that come with 600W and replaced it with vbios that offer lower TGP than the Nvidia FE cards for their best high end cards? I don't trust whats coming from MSI. They are equal disgusting as ASSUUUS.
3rd. More stupid from ASUS... https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-rog-strix-rtx-4090-eva-02-edition-debuts-in-us-at-2299
This is perverse! ASUS spread their so called better* chips on 3 different versions of same Strix card. ASUS has become the worst lottery you can think of. $2299 for a ugly card is awful. Maybe they want $300 more because very few want the Red Ugly card. But what do I know
After seeing retail in China, the ASUS ROG STRIX Evangelion GeForce RTX 4090 was finally listed on Newegg, with a premium "$2,299" price tag. To give you an idea about the variant's pricing, it is almost a bump of 70% from the GPU's original MSRP. Yup, 70% premium for a Puke show. The world have gone crazy.
Lack of good options is awful. And this now apply especially for MB and GPU's. I feel almost as I have went back to Jokebooks aera.
Btw. Guru3d have destoyed their webpage with the new updated awful modern design.... Disgusting https://www.guru3d.com/
New or newer is always better @ryan🤮🤢🤮
Back in the GTX series era, I was going through some GPU’s. I remember getting a RX480 right on launch, and it was very FAST! It had this abnormally high ASIC quality of 97 or 98% and it was just an excellent overclocker(I can’t remember what the ASIC meant). It screamed value competing with a GTX980 “Almost” though, and my sample was really good.It was short lived, as I got a GTX1070 on launch, mine had Samsung memory chips though but it was hit or miss (Earlier GTX1070 models usually had Samsung chips) I then got a GTX1080FE the following week which had Micron because it used the binned GDDR5X chips. I loved my GTX1080FE. I shunt modded it, and it was a real performer. This was my first time getting a high end GPU during a launch period. And I played lots of upscaled 4K content at 30-40FPS no problems at all.
3 hours ago, Mr. Fox said:True, but one bad experience is quite different than multiple bad experiences, and the repeated lousy warranty fulfillment experiences are like soft-serve feces on top of the dung flavored cupcake. Whether it's because I am foolishly optimistic, or just a fool, ASUS has been given way too many second chances. Nobody can say I haven't given them a fair shake. The count of products I have registered in my ASUS account (only one of which I still own) proves otherwise.
But, as Brother @Papusansuggested "What other choice do you have?" None if you want a 2-DIMM current generation motherboard. So the option is to roll the dice, clench your butt and hope for the best. When it comes to graphics cards and other products, no they are not even open for discussion at this point. EVGA is no longer in the business, otherwise they would be my first pick for everything they sell.
If and when the day comes that I decide to go with Z890, my first pick would be a Unify-X. Ultimately I will have to settle for whatever options exist in a 2-DIMM board. I won't buy a 4-DIMM model no matter what the brand is.
See, I feel this way about EVGA. Constant problems. Every EVGA motherboard I have owned, something stopped working. Other motherboard issues occurred as well. I just dealt with the problems and lived with it. Their power supplies are a disaster also. Then their GPU’s were popping during that Amazon game “New World” EVGA X-ray revealed and their own words “Poor workmanship”Just the other day, I saw a guy who had the same PSU as mine in his signature. I had to ask, “Does it squelch when gaming?” His response. “yep” 🙂 I’ve tossed around the idea of another RMA. But, I don’t want to play lottery.
My current EVGA GPU is a winner though it’s perfect in every way. No coil whine. And very very reliable. But I think it all comes down to any of us being generally unlucky, and who’s unlucky with what brand lol.
Would I buy another EVGA product?
ABSOLUTELY, Yes! Because I like them.

I do not understand all of the Asus hatred, if something happens it’s gonna happen😂. That GTX1070 seems okay right? I mean, GPU’s are a lottery especially on air cooling right? You may or may not get good overclocking memory IC’s, you may have a weak GPU. But it’s still performing with a stock GTX1080 🙂
Most of these “Strix” or other high end GPU’s offer one thing, and one thing only. And that’s “Cool and quiet performance” or “Non rattling noises” 😂 The rest is a gamble. How good is the core? How good is the memory? It’s all in luck. I don’t Asus bins anything in a Strix, they just use good marketing and have a big following.
It’s luck in everything these days. Your PSU may suck, your motherboard, your GPU lol.

Read.... From the videocardz article. "Reviewers may soon face a dilemma when determining which graphics card has the most charming appeal".
Maybe we are too old?😁 The charming appeal will soon be much more important then how the products functioning or works. In short.... Same as for modern laptops.
Yup. The end is near. Once asus have tested out their new stupidity in China... It will come to the rest of the world @Talon And all other hardware manufacturer brands will follow Asus.
If you pay any attention to technology news, particularly on this site, you may recall reading about ASUS' interesting power-delivery experiment one of the few times we've reported on it before. If you didn't read those stories, or don't recall, we'll recap: ASUS is about to start selling motherboards with.... Yep, the future looks damn dark.
WOW! Not another AGP TO PCI-E moment…. Right now any and all graphics cards can fit in practically any motherboard/CPU combo available. And if this is true, here comes a stab in the ribs that is about to force all current production motherboards incompatible with those new “Power plug free” graphics cards. Hopefully that is not the case.
Freedom of choice is nice, even if someone has a i7 7700K and wants to run a RTX4080 on it lol.

It's funner tweaking mid range. You actually attain something. More bang for your buck..3090 is sorta mid range and the longer you hang onto it the more value you get..I have had this 3060 for 2 years but unfortunately it's not able to do 4k60 with new games. But it's not it's raw power that unsettles me it is the extreme lag from a vram bottleneck..6gb just isn't enough. I'd be happy if it had 12gb I'd be able to squeeze 2 more years out of it but now I think it's time to upgrade
People do modify the 3060 laptops and solder 12GB of vram to them. 🙂 You could probably get that done.As for mid range graphics cards they do offer a good bang for buck, the 3090 was the opposite of a “Bang for Buck” though 😂 When I bought it in 2021, I spent about $2,500 bucks on the GPU and the waterblock (This was a good deal during this time
period of GPU pandemic though with normal retail pricing) High end PC parts are just depreciating assets after all. But you can upgrade less often with top shelf parts, having 24GB of vram seemed so crazy and overkill back in 2021 or even 2022 but now that we are in late 2023 it’s really cool. I’m just in no rush to spend even more money all just to play video games. I had a few lucky opportunities this year to get a 4090, unfortunately during those periods I had zero interest in PC parts. I was too intrigued by my other hobby which is Guns and suppressors. 🙂

Your setup is literally bonkers for 4k gaming. I'd do anything to get that kind of performance. How is your oled holding up my next big purchase might be a qd oled
It’s really not bad at all. It’s definitely fast enough for smooth 4K gaming. Really makes me serious about waiting to upgrade.
I have never been able to get stable clocks like this on this card before. 2,250 in game and at 4K? Lol. It’s really strange. Not sure what has changed 🤷♂️
Obviously a 4090 smacks this thing around. But, I’m okay with that.

Does it exhibit the same behaviors at complete stock? It might be buggy (wouldn't be the first time) or it might be rooting out mild little instabilities in overclocks somewhere.
I can run it at 6.1P/4.6E. But then again, my water is 15C at least.-

Now to get these stable. They game for hours in BF2042 without issue, pass Geekbench, and haven't had any issues using them this way, but will eventually error out TM5. Hard to keep these dual ranks cool even with air. If I push the cache to 50x gets the latency down to 52ns. Not too shabby for 2x32gb kit.
Took that picture hiking with the wife in Yosemite earlier this year. Gotta touch grass every now and then. 😁
Yeah that picture is awesome. Looks like an area where a Bigfoot/Sasquatch would be standing lol.
I hear and read about something interesting, and that was about PCH temps on the Z790 Apex. If you can drop those temps it greatly increases memory stability. I believe one of Sugi’s buddies discovered this. And a few others confirmed. They all started water cooling their PCH 😂 Anyways, maybe that’s a start.

I’ve really cranked the clocks on this 3090 for every frame I can possibly get. I’m kinda of surprised this is even working lol. Let it run cool enough, and this 2,205-2,220Mhz boost in game stays locked in for hours and hours and hours. My CPU is also at 6.1Ghz. Also got my 23Gbps on my GDDR6X. This GPU is really so fantastic for holding up to such abuse for so many hours. Pushing that 50 hour playtime mark in Starfield. I really need to throw on some Liquid Metal and gain another 15-30+MHz out of my GPU. I kind of like the thermal paste due to being able to neglect it though. Since 2021, I’ve had this card pulled apart at least 2 times for maintenance.

The real benefit will be seen in what, if anything, it does to extend my memory overclocking. At 8200 I seldom see more than 32-34°C under stress testing with the liquid cooled memory on the Z690 Dark. It is definitely not a bad price for what a complex design it is with the water flowing through the RAM jackets. Active cooling directly on the memory ICs is pretty amazing when you think about it. The price is really decent, as long as it yields a benefit on the overclocking capacity. If it doesn't then it will just be an extra-fancy setup that I spent more on than I needed to.
I’ve heard they are capable of running the same temp as the water circulating under load. I’ve heard this so many times, no delta in temps. We’ll see though! I’m excited to see what 15C ram temps will provide.

It’s an amazing deal for the kit!! And typically he only does small batches of these products, so when they are gone that’s it. I’m so ready to dump mine as well though. I’ve been really enjoying the 2x24 (7200) but during summer time I had to reduce MEM overclocks due to ambient heat. This is another pic of the top of the ram with block mounted. These are pretty much built for the Apex and as good as ram cooling gets.

It looks like all they have is the jackets for the modules, but not the block that goes on top. Were you able to snag the block that mounts on top of the RAM jackets as well?
it includes everything. I’d order asap but only 2 left. I’ve been waiting on these for 1.5 years. Finding them used is close to impossible. (It’s actually impossible lol) people apparently asked him to make another batch of these for ram, and he finally had enough request(s) and he actually did it. His stuff is amazing though.
The ram kit includes the blocks for (2) ram sticks for both sides, and the top manifold that directs water and mounts to the both ram blocks. He has a cheaper kit also which is a full kit too, but includes the less expensive clear polymer manifold instead of the solid copper manifold.
And @Mr. Fox you only need (1) and it’s an entire kit, so either the one for $79, or the one for $93.
This is the $79 dollar kit.-
