  1. I am more incline to keep both, as I go through the benching process to see which will work best for gaming and the other for productivity. One will go into my 3960X build for my video editing needs and the other will go into the 14900KS gaming rig. The new cards will be replacing the 4070 TI and 6900XT. In terms of spare parts, all of my spare motherboards, RAM kits and CPUs are on the higher end of things. I know I won't be able to recoup most of my costs - unless the used market really does turn to a wasteland. For example, my DDR4 RAM sets are nuts. I have the four sticks of CL19 4000MTs I got from @Mr. Fox , four sticks of G.Skill non-RGB CL15 3600, and four of the super overpriced Trident Z Royal Gold (non-Elite) CL18 4800MT DDR4 RAM sticks. I never got these sticks to run at that speed with any of my CPUs, lol. Of course I have the G.Skill NEO sets I previously shown to you all. I really had a tech addiction it seems, lol.
  2. That sucks, but I trust that TG is producing a good product. I know if I ever go down the path of securing a 5090, I would definitely be picking up a WireView. In other news, the 9070XT Red Devil arrived last week and the PRIME 5070 TI will come today. It doesn't escape my mind that I essentially spent nearly $1500 for two GPUs, when I could have put down another 500 for a 5090 at "MSRP". We all know they don't cost that, so I am fine for now. If anyone needs a 4070 TI (Gigabyte Windforce), let me know. I might just build a PC out of spare parts and sell it.
  3. All of my 32GB ECC DDR4 are in use, unfortunately. I do have one W-1290 server that I only turn on once per month with 128GB of 2933MT/s RAM (32GB x4) that doesn't particularly need that much RAM. I only purchased that much RAM to max out the server. They are UDIMMs though. The crazy part is the price for them didn't change. I paid around $850 for the two kits around three to four years ago. They cost the same now. I am starting to realize I only buy RAM during shortages...LOL.
  4. Merry Christmas to all my extended family in this thread!!! Now, I am in a bit of a dilemma. Bestbuy has the Prime 5070 TI for $749.99, brand new. I just spent that on the "Like New" card from Amazon. I am going to cancel the card from Amazn and begrudgingly buy from Bestbuy. Here goes nothing....
  5. I actually like that a lot! Speaking of 3D printing/CNC - this is what I want to ultimately get into. https://modcase.com.au/ A lot of his PC cases are fully 3D printed or a mix of 3D printing and CNC milled. He actually released a free version of one of his cases here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1740435-modcase-hyper-compact-atx-pc-case#profileId-1849515 The crazy thing is, with certain filaments, you can print out a case that would be as thermally safe and rigid as steel/aluminum with massive weigh savings. I am going to buy the premium version of the MASS NAS ITX and print it out. I want to make my own NAS case with custom colors and my own logo.
  6. Just snagged a PRIME 5070 TI from Amazon Resale - Like New condition for MSRP to compare to the 9070 XT Red Devil that is coming before Christmas. Due to all of the fraud I have heard about, I am going to unbox both on camera. I am hoping the 5070 Ti has damaged packaging and isn't actually used. Whichever card performs the best for my use cases will stick around and I will probably either send the other back or sell locally. I saw a 5080 for a little over MSRP, but I can't justify spending over 1K for the same 16GB and average of 15% better performance over the 5070 TI. Even in video editing apps, the 5080 isn't much better than the 5070 TI. I don't understand Nvidia's thoughts on the 5080 but I assume they were always planning on making the 5080 Super (which may or may not be cancelled). At the very least, if GPU pricing goes all to hell again, I can resell the 5070 TI for what I paid for.
  7. That is what happens with the faulty green stick. The PSU just clicks.
  8. That's actually great news. It will force developers to optimize for all levels, instead of the high end. Don't get me wrong, this will make those that have invested thousands on high end GPUs a bit angry, but those people only account for about 10% of the market. The true adverse thing to come out of this RAM shortage is Nvidia and AMD will continue to push 8GB cards in their next generations. Or worse, the reintroduction of the 6GB or lower "midrange" GPUs....Lol the 6070 coming with 8GB and 6070 TI with 12GB above $750
  9. With the bad stick in and when the mobo tries to retrain, I get error Code 55. I am going to chaulk it up as bad and submit an RMA with G.Skill. I am going to spend a lot of money to make sure it gets to them, which means insuring it for $600. I am going to ship it via FedEx, so hopefully it doesn't go missing. Thanks for all of your help brother. It felt great getting into the minutiae of hardware troubleshooting like this again - I don't get a lot of that in my IT day job.
  10. So this is what I found out thus far. The green stick - is dead as a door nail. The PC won't boot with it, at ALL. Even with the known working stick in A2, trained and etc. As soon as I put it in any slot outside of A2, the mobo just clicks whenever I press power. The bad G.Skill stick will boot with the known working stick in A2 after it has trained. I don't think it is hardware related, but it is definitely corrupted by that damn iCue software. I tried changing around the speeds to see if it could be detected. I even lowered the trained stick to 2133, lol. Still can't be detected but obviously it is getting power by the slot. It's almost behaving like a dummy stick.
  11. I am using my Asus Z690 Extreme board. The good news, the newer version works with my board and I was able to read and save a copy of the working stick's firmware. The bad news, is the software doesn't see the other stick. EDIT: Yes, I had iCue on this machine. So it is likely what caused the issue with the bad stick.
  12. LOL, I was literally reading the first link and saw your reply in that thread.
  13. I got the system to boot with both sticks, but while the bad stick is powered (raindow RGB flowing), it is not being detected. I am going to assume the Asus OCTools are exclusive to the Apex boards. As I can't find them and my AI Suite - ASUS Dual Intelligent Processors app doesn't have anything related to OC'ing RAM. So I guess, RMA is the route I must take. Thanks for helping bro!!!
  14. Interesting - I think I did have OpenRGB on the 14900KS build, but if the module was corrupted - it allowed you to boot? My stick won't let me boot at all. Once I take it out, the PC boots normally.
  15. While you were made "whole", you loss out on a deal because of UPS. I don't understand why Amazon wouldn't sell you the PSU for the same price, unless they are sold out. The stolen PSU is between them and UPS, the package didn't even make it to you. I would be making a major stink. This is probably why I am watching my order page closely for my 9070XT. Its delivery window is being reduced nearly weekly. It was scheduled for between Dec 26 and Jan 28th. Now it is scheduled for around early Jan. I really hope they don't ship it via UPS..... In other news, I had two sticks of DDR5 die on me. Which is weird. One of the sticks is from Mr. Fox, a generic bare Chinese brand. It was being used in my SFF build. Now one of the sticks I used in my ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme, 14900KS build, died. It's a Trident Z5 6400 32GB (2x16) RAM kit. Tried it in multiple machines and none would boot with it. The bad thing is I have to send both sticks back to G.Skill if I want to RMA it. With the prices of RAM, I don't want them to get "lost or destroyed in the mail". I never had any RAM die on me, either in my builds or for clients. Again, very weird. I'll keep you guys updated.
  16. Well it is an Arch based distro, so all of the power and configuration is there if you don't like CachyOS's developers tweaks. I really love the idea of Arch, but I won't lie and say I am not intimidated by it. I have never tried Bazzite. While I know it supports Intel, I have always thought of it as a distro for AMD. With CachyOS, it works well with mixed PCs (AMD+Nvidia or Intel+AMD and etc). Again, I do like CachyOS and I am thinking about using it on my main TRX40 workstation. That's going to be a major migration for me, due to all of the drives I have connected. The OS on that workstation is nearly 5 years old. So it might be a good thing to start over.
  17. No need to explain to me about Intel's Boost profile, brother. I well aware of it and its benefits. My point is his angle of the entire situation. The creator states his reasons for enabling the profile, but at the end of the day, it is still an OC - even if it is an official one. I would have called him out if he used PBO on AMD and not enabled any kind of profile on Intel. Let's not pretend Intel is selling these processors at a lower price due to goodness of their heart. They are not selling because AMD stole their lunch. That is why Intel is forced to sell the 200 series at a lower price. They aren't bad processors and I actually recommended them to a lot of people before RAM prices jumped. If you really enjoy RAM overclocking, they are MUCH better than AMD. You are correct, AMD is behaving a lot like Intel did during the 6000 to 8000 series. Hopefully, Intel dropkicks them into gear with Nova Lake...which appears like it is going to happen. Lastly, the creator does tends to favor Intel in mainstream. This is the same guy that was recommending the 13900K/14900K when those products were having instability issues. He constantly gets called out about it.
  18. So this guy is obviously bias towards Intel (he always has been), but for him to select 8000MTs RAM and claim it isn't an overclock - but to select 5600MTs for AMD doesn't make any sense. I wrote the following "I really don't understand your RAM OC reasoning - as the Z890 chipset default RAM speed is 6400MTs but you picked 8000MTs. Anything above 6400MTs is considered an OC and yet with X870E, you chose 5600MTs which is the X870E's chipset's default. I will point out that even with a kit of 6000MTs ram, the 9700X will lose out to the 265K (you can't beat a CPU with more cores)." He points out in the video he is doing it, essentially, for comment engagement, but there are actual people that don't understand that 8000MTs isn't promised and still considered an OC - even with Intel's Boost Profile.
  19. If things don't work out, let me know. I have so much tech that I don't use, I might have a fire sale one of these days. I am keeping most of my EVGA motherboards - like X299 and X570 Dark motherboards. I still have my 6950X and ASUS ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10 motherboard sitting somewhere around here. I wonder if I can ever find a cheap 10980XE processor.....
  20. Thinking about it from Bestbuy's point, I completely agree. There is a lot of fraud involved when selling electronics in general (another reason why I won't sell certain PC components on eBay any more), but I was buying a lot from Bestbuy at the time. I spent several thousand on cameras and lenses from them during that six month window and several thousand more on laptops, admittedly, I returned most of the laptops. At that point, I was a decent customer, even though I was quite (still am) picky. I didn't request a refund or anything like that (basically some scammers would try to do that while keeping the product), I just wanted them to actual ship and deliver what I paid for. Things have gotten much better with UPS and FedEx. LOL, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the drivers at FedEx hate me at this point, due to the amount of complaints. No lost packages with FedEx, just tons of Delivery Exceptions (the place of business was closed). I know I am a very demanding customer, but I expect competence when I spend my money. I do try to get any company that ships to me to use FedEx, as UPS still has their legacy issues. I purchased some things from BJ's and they were shipped via UPS. Most of the order was 'damaged' in transit and were shipped back to BJ's...I had to wait 30 days and several phone calls to get my refund. Got to love them.
  21. UPS is WELL known for this. I remember I had to fight Bestbuy when a laptop I ordered was "delivered" by UPS. I went through Bestbuy, got denied, even though I questioned why they would deliver a 3000 laptop with no required signature and I had camera footage showing no delivery at the time UPS claimed they did. I went through the CC company - Chase, when I had their Bestbuy card and to no surprise, they sided with Bestbuy. I wasn't going to pay. I had to threaten to sue, with my attorney sending demand letters to both Bestbuy and Chase. Chase closed out my account and tried a couple times to add the balance to my credit report and Bestbuy blacklisted me for an entire year. The funny thing is, I haven't purchased anything from them since but I did have to pickup a Legion Go S that I ordered from Lenovo at my last remaining local Bestbuy. End Rant - lol.
  22. @Reciever Had I gone through your recent posts earlier, I would have talked to you about buying one of my MO-RA rads. I don't use them, but I left them filled with water and coolant for the past year and a half. So perhaps it is good I didn't mention it early, lol. Perhaps it time I break them down and drain them later today.
  23. I am spending a lot of time with CachyOS. We will see if it stays my ongoing distro of choice. My needs are small, I just need Davinci Resolve to run. The 3D printer slicers I use all run on Linux or I can force them to. I've slowly moved away from Windows and I only have it installed on two machines.
  24. I actually purchased those two sets in 2021 at that price. Those were the fastest kits you could get to work on TRX4 at the time. I still run all 8 at those speeds. I am going to seek out a trade for a 5090 locally with the 3960X, 128GB of DDR4 and Asus Zenith Extreme II Alpha. We will see if I get any bites.
