Brother, my storage arrays are limited by cooling, otherwise I'd have a SAN set up in my homelab. Strictly speaking of raw storage, I'm in the 500TB+ club. Not including any of my SSD storage arrays. All of this requires a lot of power but that's where solar comes into play. Some of you don't know but I'm a huge Prepper. Back into the lurking shadows I go for now. -

I have a lot of experience with them in an enterprise environment and "proconsumer" homelab. The one drive I really pushed people to get was the Intel P4510 8TB when it was down to $399. While not as fast the 5520, it featured the same full 1DWPD as the 5520. As you stated in your bulletpoint list, these "older" drives are great and there is no downside besides price...well there is the lack of real warranty (Solidigm took over Intel's drive business, but you have to purchase from them to get the warranty). Like the P4510, people like myself are waiting for the 5520 to hit $500 or below to pounce. -

That was a good video. It is my curse...storage. I am literally looking at 14 to 16TB drives for my new NAS builds. -

KP is back....with PNY?! So my next card will be a KP PNY 5090. Never thought I'd writing that. -

I don't believe this guy at all. I mean, he's knowledgeable enough about the 4090 AND the CM adapter, not to mention being able to go into CM's Reddit to complain...but completely oblivious the past 14 months about dying 4090's???! I am not giving CM a free pass on this entire situation, but in this case, I call BS. -

Why are you trolling with that username. You and I discussed how bad that mobo you have, is. Guys, this is just one of the guys I work with. While he is currently using an AMD platform, he is going to Intel for a particular reason...which I won't say. Gamerboys. Smh 😆 EDIT: Your RAM isn't running at 4800 anymore. It's running at 6000. I changed that when you brought your PC to the office. -

Guys, I have some young men that are showing some interest in overclocking, joining the forum. @Mr. Fox @electrosoft @Talon @Raiderman @Papusan I need your help to educate these men, move them from gamerboys to overclockers. To those I'm writing about, don't be afraid to ask questions. -

Since I skipped the 40 series...., I'll be in line for a 5090 (I've been saving for it). It will be my luck that I pick up a 5090 and they introduce a 5090 TI/Super later. I will be picking up the next ARC GPU, because they are fantastic when it comes to compute in video editing. I'll go back to AMD if/when they develop another high-end GPU. -

I believe the 5000 series was the last to allow vBIOS flashing, whereas 6000 series still allowed you to use tools like MPT. 7000 series is as locked down as Nvidia's cards. -

Hahaha, no. It is going under custom water. I only used the air cooler in the review to showcase Corsair. I am researching the best options for blocks that are not tailored to direct die. Thanks bro! -

All of this talk of an air cooler that can't cool a fiery 14900KS at over 300W has me laughing. I tried cooling a 14900KS with air cooling in an upcoming review, hahaha. -

I still buy gaming laptops, but they are no on the bleeding edge. My "current" gaming laptop is a Lenovo 7 with a 11980HK/3080 16GB. I have always been desktop first, laptop second. I came on NBR in 2015/2016 because I was interested in getting a Clevo DTR and I started reading posts of Mr. Fox and others overclocking these machines. I purchased Mr. Fox's 980 Clevo and the rest is history. -

What I find interesting is that Vince (KP) is solo. I know he still has his eBike company but I wonder if he has a non-compete, which is why he hasn't signed up with MSI or another company. While Vince is a well known overclocker and has some experience in engineering, it was TiN who was the actual "brain" behind some of the most beloved KP cards, like the 2080 TI KPx. I never honestly used any Asrock mobo. I always saw the horror stories surrounding their mobos and I stayed away. We had a few guys on the old forum that swore by Asrock for price to performance. -

According to Steve in GN's latest news video, some members of the team that developed EVGA mobo BIOS left for Asrock....keep that in mind for future mobo purchases. -

How the mighty have fallen. This news story is bad for the legacy of EVGA if true. I guess if all the good employees left, the shell company doesn't care. -

No. AMD technically has their own, plain vanilla, SP rating system built into Ryzen Master. However, 1usmus developed Clock Tuner that sat ontop of Ryzen Master that gave you an "SP" rating. Through that software, I discovered I had a lot of winners, especially my former 5800X. 1usmus stopped developing it, around the time the rumors of AM5 was set to launch. -

Based off what I am seeing, I won't be touching 8400MT with this chip, hahaha. My MCSP is 79. Sorry for the lowres, I am using my EVGA 570 for the output. -

Well, my 14900KS is only a 103SP. My poor luck with Intel chips continues. Since I used some of my CC rewards to pay for it, I'm not sure if I want to go through the process of returning it. Essentially, I only paid 610 shipped. -

I ordered one from them as well, but there is a 15% restocking fee on opened box CPUs. Just take note. -

From what little I gathered from my brother who works at Amazon, these "holds" are only applying to customer accounts they don't deem wholly profitable. He didn't go into details over what that means. I assume, if you return certain electronics as defective, there is a higher chance Amazon sends it back to the manufacturer, instead of taking the loss - either by offering it on AW or return wholesale. At that point, you may play the waiting game. -

Welcome to the Acer* GM7000 family. I adore all six of GM7000 4TB drives. The included DRAM does make a difference. I'm using four of the drives in a RAID array for my video editing. I'm thinking of picking up the ASUSTOR FLASHSTOR 12 Pro. Yes that NAS will handicap the speeds of the GM7000 drives, but convenience is king. -

I don't think it has been a better time to buy GPUs older than the 20 series for Nvidia or 6000 series for AMD on the used market. Strangely, the used prices for 30 series are climbing (or more likely, sellers think their cards are worth more). I am sitting on Gamestop.com for a 4090. They are the last of the stores that have not artificially raised their MSRP prices. They have the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X for $1700, but they usually sell out pretty quickly for online shipping. The bad news for AMD cards like the 7900 XTX, they are still selling for the MSRP of $1100. -

Since this is 1700's swan song, I might pick up a 14900KS, but I am unsure which eshop I am going to buy it from. Amazon is becoming much more selective on how fast they process electronic returns and Newegg is Newegg (truth be told, I don't believe I have ever returned a non-sealed product to Newegg). I could try B&H, but they are generally the last place to get anything in stock near launch, at least in my experience. I want the option to return the 14900KS if it is complete trash, but I don't think I will even if it is. Maybe I'll pick up a 14900K instead. -

It is strange that GeoHotz is complaining about AMD's MES firmware being closed, when Nvidia's firmware is far more locked down than AMD's. Essentially, GeoHotz is complaining that they [his company] can't use the 7900 XTX to compete with Nvidia OR AMD's AI product derivatives because AMD's firmware isn't open source. With his coding knowledge, I am surprised he hasn't cracked the firmware himself or written his own. I am also surprised that Lisa Su responded to his heckling on Twitter. -

For the first time in over 15 years, I do not have an Nvidia GPU*. I sold my last 3090 in a build for $1400. I am unsure of the steps I should take. I can wait to see if Nvidia releases something new or look for a 4090. I installed my A770 in my editing workstation. Video editing in DR took a major hit (as expected). Should I wait or buy a 4090? *I have older Nvidia cards like the EVGA 570 and even a BFG 280, but those don't count. They are "collector's items" at this point.
