While you were made "whole", you loss out on a deal because of UPS. I don't understand why Amazon wouldn't sell you the PSU for the same price, unless they are sold out. The stolen PSU is between them and UPS, the package didn't even make it to you. I would be making a major stink. This is probably why I am watching my order page closely for my 9070XT. Its delivery window is being reduced nearly weekly. It was scheduled for between Dec 26 and Jan 28th. Now it is scheduled for around early Jan. I really hope they don't ship it via UPS..... In other news, I had two sticks of DDR5 die on me. Which is weird. One of the sticks is from Mr. Fox, a generic bare Chinese brand. It was being used in my SFF build. Now one of the sticks I used in my ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme, 14900KS build, died. It's a Trident Z5 6400 32GB (2x16) RAM kit. Tried it in multiple machines and none would boot with it. The bad thing is I have to send both sticks back to G.Skill if I want to RMA it. With the prices of RAM, I don't want them to get "lost or destroyed in the mail". I never had any RAM die on me, either in my builds or for clients. Again, very weird. I'll keep you guys updated. -

Well it is an Arch based distro, so all of the power and configuration is there if you don't like CachyOS's developers tweaks. I really love the idea of Arch, but I won't lie and say I am not intimidated by it. I have never tried Bazzite. While I know it supports Intel, I have always thought of it as a distro for AMD. With CachyOS, it works well with mixed PCs (AMD+Nvidia or Intel+AMD and etc). Again, I do like CachyOS and I am thinking about using it on my main TRX40 workstation. That's going to be a major migration for me, due to all of the drives I have connected. The OS on that workstation is nearly 5 years old. So it might be a good thing to start over. -

No need to explain to me about Intel's Boost profile, brother. I well aware of it and its benefits. My point is his angle of the entire situation. The creator states his reasons for enabling the profile, but at the end of the day, it is still an OC - even if it is an official one. I would have called him out if he used PBO on AMD and not enabled any kind of profile on Intel. Let's not pretend Intel is selling these processors at a lower price due to goodness of their heart. They are not selling because AMD stole their lunch. That is why Intel is forced to sell the 200 series at a lower price. They aren't bad processors and I actually recommended them to a lot of people before RAM prices jumped. If you really enjoy RAM overclocking, they are MUCH better than AMD. You are correct, AMD is behaving a lot like Intel did during the 6000 to 8000 series. Hopefully, Intel dropkicks them into gear with Nova Lake...which appears like it is going to happen. Lastly, the creator does tends to favor Intel in mainstream. This is the same guy that was recommending the 13900K/14900K when those products were having instability issues. He constantly gets called out about it. -

So this guy is obviously bias towards Intel (he always has been), but for him to select 8000MTs RAM and claim it isn't an overclock - but to select 5600MTs for AMD doesn't make any sense. I wrote the following "I really don't understand your RAM OC reasoning - as the Z890 chipset default RAM speed is 6400MTs but you picked 8000MTs. Anything above 6400MTs is considered an OC and yet with X870E, you chose 5600MTs which is the X870E's chipset's default. I will point out that even with a kit of 6000MTs ram, the 9700X will lose out to the 265K (you can't beat a CPU with more cores)." He points out in the video he is doing it, essentially, for comment engagement, but there are actual people that don't understand that 8000MTs isn't promised and still considered an OC - even with Intel's Boost Profile. -

If things don't work out, let me know. I have so much tech that I don't use, I might have a fire sale one of these days. I am keeping most of my EVGA motherboards - like X299 and X570 Dark motherboards. I still have my 6950X and ASUS ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10 motherboard sitting somewhere around here. I wonder if I can ever find a cheap 10980XE processor..... -

Thinking about it from Bestbuy's point, I completely agree. There is a lot of fraud involved when selling electronics in general (another reason why I won't sell certain PC components on eBay any more), but I was buying a lot from Bestbuy at the time. I spent several thousand on cameras and lenses from them during that six month window and several thousand more on laptops, admittedly, I returned most of the laptops. At that point, I was a decent customer, even though I was quite (still am) picky. I didn't request a refund or anything like that (basically some scammers would try to do that while keeping the product), I just wanted them to actual ship and deliver what I paid for. Things have gotten much better with UPS and FedEx. LOL, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the drivers at FedEx hate me at this point, due to the amount of complaints. No lost packages with FedEx, just tons of Delivery Exceptions (the place of business was closed). I know I am a very demanding customer, but I expect competence when I spend my money. I do try to get any company that ships to me to use FedEx, as UPS still has their legacy issues. I purchased some things from BJ's and they were shipped via UPS. Most of the order was 'damaged' in transit and were shipped back to BJ's...I had to wait 30 days and several phone calls to get my refund. Got to love them. -

UPS is WELL known for this. I remember I had to fight Bestbuy when a laptop I ordered was "delivered" by UPS. I went through Bestbuy, got denied, even though I questioned why they would deliver a 3000 laptop with no required signature and I had camera footage showing no delivery at the time UPS claimed they did. I went through the CC company - Chase, when I had their Bestbuy card and to no surprise, they sided with Bestbuy. I wasn't going to pay. I had to threaten to sue, with my attorney sending demand letters to both Bestbuy and Chase. Chase closed out my account and tried a couple times to add the balance to my credit report and Bestbuy blacklisted me for an entire year. The funny thing is, I haven't purchased anything from them since but I did have to pickup a Legion Go S that I ordered from Lenovo at my last remaining local Bestbuy. End Rant - lol. -

@Reciever Had I gone through your recent posts earlier, I would have talked to you about buying one of my MO-RA rads. I don't use them, but I left them filled with water and coolant for the past year and a half. So perhaps it is good I didn't mention it early, lol. Perhaps it time I break them down and drain them later today. -

I am spending a lot of time with CachyOS. We will see if it stays my ongoing distro of choice. My needs are small, I just need Davinci Resolve to run. The 3D printer slicers I use all run on Linux or I can force them to. I've slowly moved away from Windows and I only have it installed on two machines. -

I actually purchased those two sets in 2021 at that price. Those were the fastest kits you could get to work on TRX4 at the time. I still run all 8 at those speeds. I am going to seek out a trade for a 5090 locally with the 3960X, 128GB of DDR4 and Asus Zenith Extreme II Alpha. We will see if I get any bites. -

That sucks! That is one of my fears with open boxes and with how Newegg acts, I could get a DOA and would have to fight with them. I also cancelled my 9950X3D order. I have the 14900KS collecting dust and while the 9950X3D is better in every way (especially in ECO mode), if AMD does release a 9950X3D2, I can either get the 9950X3D for much cheaper than $669 (it did come with a free white MSI 360 AIO) or pick up the 9950X3D2 for around the same price. Outside of wanting a new GPU, I am all set with memory and storage. Lol, with the prices of RAM...I wonder if I can get my money back for the DDR4 memory I got for TR4 rig... -

So I was going to pick up the open box 5080, but it was gone when I refreshed the page. So I decided on the 9070XT Red Devil from Amazon at $650...but its delivery window is Dec 21 to Jan 23rd (lol). I would have preferred a 5090, but I don't want to spend that kind of money right now. My mindset in regards to the 5070 TI and 5080 is simple, I know a refresh is coming (one way or another) and I don't want to buy a card that is going to be supplanted for the same price or a bit higher within a year of ownership. I know with the 9070xt, replacements aren't coming out until 2027 and when they do, they are going to be a new generation. I also picked up a 9950X3D from Newegg, but I don't know if I am going to keep the order. I have a 7600X and it should be adequate for video editing. Although, for the first time ever, I am going with a power usage approach versus max performance...because where I live, I have subsidize others through our power bill. The 9950X3D ECO mode does interest me. Anyway random rant post over. Hahaha. -

Hey Guys, Do I buy the 9070XT at MSRP before all hell breaks loose or get an open box 5080 from Newegg that is not returnable at $1000? I am not looking to game really, but I want a card for video editing. I poured over videos on how good the 9070XT is with DR, Blender, but the common theme is to get a 5090 if I want the best all around GPU. I'm torn on the 5080, because I know the card will be replaced by a 5080 Super/TI, even though it has been delayed or won't come out due to DRAM concerns. I guess if I go the 9070XT route, I can create an all AMD PC that will work wonders in Linux. Or should I just bite the bullet and buy the cheapest 5090? -

The strange thing is, Intel will be bringing SMT back after Nova Lake. So does this mean, Nova Lake's chipset is one and done or they will build in SMT support into the chipset and Nova Lake will be the last SMT-less CPU family? I hate to see Intel like this, even though I did call it out a couple years ago in this thread. Hopefully, they get back into the performance business and if people really need power savings, release an e-core only version of a processor and call it a day. -

I missed all of you too. Outside of the people here, I really don't have anyone to talk shop (tech) with. Some nights, I get the itch to overclock something, but my 14900KS desktop lies dormant. I am sure if I had a big boy GPU, I would have an excuse to do it. And here I thought 3D printers would be a laid-back adventure, haha - far from it. I have my eye on this - Carvera Desktop CNC machine. It's a little pricey, but it is basically three 5090's, 🤣 I want to design and make my own CPU/GPU blocks. Anyway, I'll be around. -

Rage Set replied to Mr. Fox's topic in Desktop Hardware
What's up everyone! I am sorry I have been away for awhile. I am trying my hand at YT and hopefully build a large enough following to get sponsored by a CNC maker or continue to build my reserve to buy one. I haven't had the urge to upgrade any of my PC's to the latest and greatest (although I am thinking about the 9950X3D). I came across some local listings on a 5090, that weren't exactly deals (used, still above MSRP). The days of great used hardware prices are dead - people want 80 to 110% of their purchase price, and with new cards closing in on their MSRP's, I don't know who is buying used at these prices. I think that if Intel releases the B770 and it's under $400, I'll pounce on that card. I only need something good enough for video editing and CAD. I hope you and your families are doing well. I'm back here fully, doing my normal lurking. -

Probably someone who thinks they know better than you and can score a cheap working CPU they can fix. Once they realize they can't, they will either request a refund or commit return fraud against a retailer. While that sounds cynical, I've stopped buying open boxes due to the latter reason. -

Yes, I am embarrassed by my storage addiction. I spent several thousand on storage alone over the past year and a half, yet the fastest GPU in all of my rigs is a 4070 Super. LOL, don't judge me 😅. I was intent on replacing all of my 1 and 2TB SSD's with 4TB and even a few 8TB NVMe drives before prices reached where they are now. I ignored common sense and went with drives that had DRAM onboard, even though HMB isn't much of a speed killer if you have a lot of fast RAM. You live and you learn. Although I see @Mr. Fox is slowly succumbing to storage addiction, 🤣 -

Yes. Right now I am using PETG Pro filament, so it should withstand the temps inside of a case. The designer of these grills, has some plenty cool designs. https://www.printables.com/@kewtd_1153523 -

Soon, I will likely be offering members of this particular thread free decorative fan grills (all you have to do is pay the shipping). I am currently testing the best materials to use, as some filaments are prone to warping or even melting under temps above 50 to 60C. Here is an example that I like https://www.printables.com/model/562113-skull-fan-grill-120mm I am also designing my own. -

The problem is a good amount of reviewers have stated that the MSRP models are essentially a limited-time deal. Most of the cards will go between 750 and 950. I knew the 600 cards were going to disappear quickly but I didn't expect the cards 850 and up to go that fast. I 'may' go to Microcenter though, but I don't really want to drive an hour. We will see. -

I think this will be one of the rare GPU launches that even with scalpers (they will attempt to buy up the MSRP cards), the chances of picking one up day one will be good. I want to get in before the tariffs truly hit. I thought about going the cheapest route, but I want to ensure I get a card that handle 340W - then I can always undervolt when I don't have the power demands. I plan to use this card almost exclusively in Linux. -

I guess I am going to be shopping in the "midrange" and try to pick up a 340W 9070XT around $750ish. Hopefully the card hits at least 3.2Ghz. -

This! This is why I stopped buying all of the latest, "best" after Nvidia's 30 series and Intel's 1700 platform. Now my new love is 3D printing - which, as I stated in the past, is like the old era of computing. You have those that build from the ground up, i.e. Voron, to go faster than anything on the market and those that buy ready-to-print devices that don't offer customization. For the first time, in a long time, I have little interest in any new PC component for overclocking. I am just waiting until used 4090's hover around 1000 so I can pick one up for my CAD/Bender work.
