I asked the VBIOS files from them because they're maybe 100% using the same chips from their MXM cards. The laptops have eDP because of their internal display, so there's a chance that they have the correct VBIOSes that don't set the "edp to disable". Maybe the backlight pins are back only on laptops? Or maybe they're controlling the whole backlight/brightness from the motherboard instead...

No you are lucky for having a potential ZRT RTX 4090 VBIOS. For M6800 I think 135W TDP should be the max for dGPU. 150W works but needs beefy PSU.

I tested the 4940MX in the Alienware 17 R1 and... Shocking results... Max 71W in ThrottleStop bench instead of 58W. CPU-Z: from 380 to 430 single score Multi-thread: 1880 to 2200... Can hit 4GHz on all cores. I put the i7 4700MQ in the M6800, I get 2.3GHz on all cores, what?? Max 24W... I set the cores to the lowest possible, I get 2.4GHz at 26W..... (Non OEM Battery) I didn't reset the CMOS and the NVRAM values yet. Maybe I should? I remember I was able to get 3.1GHz on all cores (OEM battery) Edit: fixed the 4700MQ turbo with CMOS reset and got 3.4GHz on all cores at 58W max. Multi-thread is 1800 points

The 4940mx crashes at -110mV core so... Not a good chip maybe. I'll test on 17 R1

But I don't wanna get power limited when both GPU and CPU work. It's better to get the lower TDP CPUs. I'll test the 4940MX in an Alienware and see if it does the same issue. The 4940MX is requesting too much amps, maybe higher than the non extreme CPUs.

Yes and I can't increase that. So it's better having a 4900MQ that's 47W than the 4940mx that's 57W...

But the 900 series have a lower designed TDP and at 58W I'll get more performance than what the 4940MX did at 58W in throttleStop bench... The 4900MQ can do 4.2GHz on all cores, so 4GHz on all cores could be more stable and possible than the 4940MX in the M6800? Edit: I undervolted to -80mV and I was able to get 3.7GHz on all cores, instead of 3.6GHz with -40mV. Interesting... Still low, if I had a 4900MQ, maybe I can get 4GHz easily

Hello here are the results with the new 4 HEATPIPES GPU heatsink. Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (1080p Ultra): 258FPS average Temperature max GPU: 77.5C Temperature max hot spot: 86.5C Max core frequency: 2385MHz Max TDP: 149W FurMark 1 minute 1.37 (1080p): 306FPS average Temperature max GPU: 81.6C Temperature max hot spot: 92.8C Max core frequency: 2370MHz Max TDP: 153W TimeSpy (1080p): GPU Score: 16090 Temperature max GPU: 81C Temperature max hot spot: 92C Max core frequency: 2370MHz Max TDP: 152W No thermal throttles. The only limit is the Power Supply if we run the laptop without battery. The power LED blinks orange and white. To fix that, I need to use a 330W PSU and use a Core i7 4910MQ, since the 4940MX it's useless, uses 10W more and can't overclock well on the M6800. And optionally: use a 135W VBIOS if we can find one... Maybe @DynamiteZergcan get one from ZRT. With the 4910MQ you have turbo bins and can use 3.9GHz all cores with grub, right @JadeRover?

I know that MX-4 isn't the best but what I'm saying is that the stock heatsink handles a 115W 4070 with a regular paste. I could use PTM7950, it'll maybe save me 10C! Full copper doesn't mean everything too. The M6700 custom heatsink had same performance as the OEM heatsink with a M5000M! It usually depends on the heatpipes themselves and on the air conductivity. The custom one was using the same heatpipes as the OEM one.

I don't think this would handle the 150W VBIOSes. It can handle 125W GPUs for sure. For MXM-A RTX 4060, 4070 you need to cut the heatsink for it... Very nice designs from X-vsion... The stock modified one can handle 115W 4070 very easily and the temps are staying cool. I used MX-4 paste and not ptm7950. For example the custom RTX Heatsink I got for the M6700 throttles instantly in FurMark with a 150W Ada card. But this heatsink can handle 100W easily.

I tried today with Maxwell VBIOSes (970M and M5000M) that have no UEFI/GOP: Boot with LVDS cable: nope Boot without LVDS cable: nope Boot without LVDS cable and DVI plugged in: nope Boot without LVDS cable and HDMI plugged in: nope Even tried to do the same with a Quadro P3000 UEFI, nope. The 485M works without LVDS and displays in DVI/HDMI... It's just a blackscreen, no backlight, no post, no OS. Nothing. Just fans stay on idle.

I get 56W max in throttleStop benchmark so I don't know , no bsod

No, running into 45W TDP limit in CPU-Z. 61W is good for me. Using 240W PSU. Getting "EDP CURRENT" error in throttleStop.

My RTX 3000 HP works on Alienware 17 R1 and no TDP bugs! 82FPS in FurMark, 148FPS in Heaven benchmark. I know that the PNY, AETINA RTX 3000 have the TDP bug for this laptop.

I wasn't able to get the external HDMI/DP on the M18X R2/R3 to work with dGPU. I can with the Alienware M17X R4/R5 and Dell Precision M6700/M6800 to make the HDMI/DP to work with dGPU. For the cooling, custom heatsinks exist so the better argument doesn't apply now... I had many issues with Alienware laptops (dirty, replacing a lot of motherboards, bad charging ICs, bad speakers) but I had 0 issues with Precisions at the moment, smooth, better IO, better MXM support. The TDP bug affects Haswell, even on MSI GT laptops. For HP I have no info. The TDP bug only happens on XVSION, ZRT, AETINA, PNY cards but not for the HP RTX ones...

Ollie's temperature are good. I already recommended him that. Alienware does 8 beeps maybe it's the mux switches from the eDP line... Just get a red covet M6700 or M6800 they dust off these Alienware... Yes I do not have any TDP bug (no 40-55W fluctuating) with the 150W 4080 besides the thermal throttle in FurMark but that's easy to fix with a new 4 heatpipes GPU heatsink.

This is the better version if you're planning to use 150W cards (with PTM7950) + better designed CPU heatsink like the Alienware 17 R1 Ranger design, so better overclocking for the CPU right? Mine will arrive this week, maybe on Friday? It means I'll have a spare "130W" 3 heatpipes that has one badly curved heatpipe. If someone wants it, I can list it for 45€ and then you can modify the heatpipes if you want. @DynamiteZergI sell them on ebay. This is version 1. It allows backlight enable and makes the internal display work again. The newer RTX cards don't have the backlight pins connected from the core.

I've been trying to get their VBIOSes for 5 months... I just hope the images you got are indeed the right GPU and not the x-vsion one. Do you have the VBIOS version number or a GPU-Z screenshot? For myself I need the 4080 150W VBIOS and 4090 150W VBIOS. But if the seller could dump 135W Max-Q versions why not, everyone will be happy.

IT'S ZRT OMG. Please GET THE VBIOSES!! I want to flash on 4080 and 4090 so we can avoid the EDID override method!! Same design as ZRT 100%, not x-vsion, the BIOS chip is in a different place

Hello... I already made the tests. Precision M6800 eDP with RTX 4080, 4070 works so 4090 will work too but you need the backlight mod cable that I'm selling. You also need to set the BIOS to UEFI and Legacy OPROM to disabled. You also need a custom powerful 4 heatpipes heatsink from Cicichen. I REALLY HOPE, YOU BOUGHT THE ZRT CARD! Please confirm!!! We need the VBIOS of the ZRT card! Thank you. X-vsion Vbios is bad and needs EDID override in the OS. Please man ask the seller if he has RTX 4080 135W/150W and 4090 135W/150W VBIOSes please... They have good eDP support for the Windows drivers. Only the 4060, 4070 from X-VSION have good eDP support the 4080/4090 nope
