Can a tablet replace an office laptop ? My journey.
ryan replied to Bullit's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Interesting price point.. screen is nice albeit not oled. For 500 the lume pad is the best bang for the buck and ticks all boxes except for storage and nits. May I ask why you need 256gb of app storage? That's like 400 apps!!. Brightness after 400 nits is minimal. Comparing 900nits to 450nits the latter won't be half as bright. The perceived difference will be extremely slight. I have a 1400 not display and when comparing to a 450nit tablet display it's looking brighter but not worth money brighter. The outside in the sun argument is moot because in my 39 years on earth I have only seen 1 person use a tablet outside. It's just not reasonable. Phones sure. I could have bought any tablet in the world nothing in ux is faster. Specs mean very little without proper execution. -

Can a tablet replace an office laptop ? My journey.

There's not a lot of options. For me 3d was a feature I wanted...but luck has it the tablet supports super fast charging..found out and hour ago..that's the last thread to make me decide to keep it. At 499.99 USD it's unbeatable with all-round performance in aspects like speakers.display.batterylife.charging speed.performance.and unique advantages like glasses free ai 3d. The xiaomi is similar with it super fast charging and long battery and fast performance. Nothing on speakers though. At first people don't care to much but they can be important on a tablet the same way cameras are on smartphones Next purchase is a matte screen protector. So glossy shouldn't be in the mix when if your using a pen you will need a screen protector -

I bought it directly from Lenovo in Canada. They pulled it but it might pop back up. At any rate if both are the same price the xiaomi is leagues above -

I just owned a p11 pro gen 2 8gb ram 128gb oled 2.5k tablet. It's a great tablet I paid 300 for the tablet and 150 for the advanced 2 year warranty. Speakers were good to great. Screen was bright vibrant battery life was around 8 to 10 hours and one draw back was charge time. I will say this lume pad although same in benchmarks faster by a large margin and speakers are louder although not as refined. Lower quality sound but much louder. Both are great tablets and if you can get a p11 pro gen 2 for 160 euro it's impossible to beat the value and honestly it's built like a 600 dollar tablet. The xiaomi on the other hand is in another league. I was considering something like that to replace my p11 pro but honestly it felt good knowing I saved 500 bucks. Sometimes buyers remorse creeps in when you over spend on tech. If I could go back in time I'd just keep the p11 and save up for a oculus quest 3 for 3d movies. But now that I have it. I'll protect this thing like a child. The 3d effect is exaggerated and mind bending. Pure magic. Tldr. Get a p11 for 200 euro or go all in with the xiaomi. Both are intelligent choices as they both offer features that are useful and with those two in particular you get what you pay for and then some -

The backlit keyboard is a go, the pen...I use a 20 dollar stylus and its great, I would look at getting a generic chinese stylus not like they are an advanced piece of tech. also I looked it up on amazon to see if I could afford it as a backup and its 1300 cad...yikes thats zenbook 14 oled territory. but yes I think you will be very happy with a tablet like the xiaomi 6s pro. they are versatile devices and are more convenient and enjoyable to use over a laptop. I have like 5 laptops and only one is older and I rarely use them, first thing I do is load up my tablet on the couch and check emails. honestly i'd look at seeing if you can find deals or coupon codes, be vigilant and maybe you could shave off 50-100 euros. at any rate, keep us updated on it and maybe a mini first impressions. would be interesting to see what the battery life is vs what the reviewers claim. it's a tough pill to swallow that I spent 750cad and it takes 2 hours to charge my tablet for 5-7 hours at max brightness. your new tablet in question will charge from 0-100 in 35min and last 11 hours. -

if I wasn't a 3d sucker I'd say the 900nit Xiaomi looks like a strong contender. I think when it comes to tablets in my experience having used mine for 10 hours a day for 3 weeks, the most important thing when you have a high end tablet is the charge time, if you can fill the proverbial cup in 35min it wouldn't be a bad idea to use the tablet with full performance mode and brightness for the 6-7hours and just get a cup of coffee and your good to start another session. I have a 3d TV and a VR headset and of course im biased but id look at the new leia lume pad 3 that will be coming out soon or the rebrand of that the ZTE nubia 3d gen 2. having what looks like a hologram in your hands is like seeing the ocean for the first time. its novelty and gimmicky in some aspects but it never fully wears off, the wow this is so neat. kinda like when computers first came out, we really didnt need what they were offering as we had pencils and pens and they were functional. imagine how gimmicky computers must have felt to the 20s-40s generation. now we have computers running our world and the next step is immersion and 3d is the only next logical step along with AI(love it or hate it) this thing has AI built in. Honestly Bullit i'd wait another 6 months, there is going to be some pretty big improvements to tech in the next few months because of the AI Bear. If you can't wait I think you have already crossed the finish line with a medal. that xiaomi is looking like a good package. one thing ill add with my experience with tablets is storage is very crucial to be productive/entertained. I have a 128gb tablet and a 128gb micro sd and honestly im upgrading the micro sd to a 1tb in a few days, as for the on board storage 128gb just doesn't cut it. either get 512gb and a 1 tb card or expect to be let down. im sorry I cant be of more help but thats all I do...read the general C. its hard finding the perfect phone/tablet/computer and often times it doesn't exist. I found the perfect tablet for myself after about 1800 dollars and 2 returns and reading reviews. alot of compromises but in the end im thrilled with it. the tablet you posted looks incredible and if the LUME PAD 3d 2 didn't exist I would have bought that one after returning the super affordable oled p11 gen 2. -

@Papusan bro. honestly iv'e given up. all the new junk coming out whats the point. overclcoking gains of 50 percent? nope! good thermals in a laptop? see my posts about the 3000 dollar laptop I bought, apparently its the best as the benchmarks show. upgradeability? nope why give the consumers modularity and choice as well as a touch of respect. I bought a tablet for basic things as computers are done, I cant stand doing anything on my phone and can't stand tablets but its pretty frustrating when something you love gets flushed. I don't understand, they make trillions from tech and then change modify and delete it? clever. clever like wiping your bum with a 100 dollar bill. I could have bought 4 desktops but honestly the problem isnt desktops its the software, the OSes are trash the games will all look like tetris in 20 years and we will need a 40k series atom tracing gpu to run 16 colored minesweeper, im not buying it. why would a game that looks like it came out in 2005 need 100 times the power??? no one seems to question this. my tablet runs real racing 3 and it looks clearer and sharper than my 4k oled and gaming laptop running the revolutionary forza motorsport, sure it doesnt have quite the same texture details, but it could easily use compareable textures all the while looking sharper cleaner and running better than a freeking desktop. why are people buying this crap, I honestly have no desire to own anything tech related when I compare it to the past and what I saw the future to be, it just didnt happen. I tried to adopt the 3060 but everytime a new game came out I was let down, nothing stands out and its been 14 years. im not waiting 20 years only to be let down. its going to be the idiots thin and light and a tablet for me just for emails and online banking ect. the techverse has literally killed what made them trillions over 20 years. like stop reinventing the damn wheel. its annoying -

Congrats @tps3443 get r done...looking forwards to overclocked/stock gaming benchmarks. Can't imagine how much your CPU and ram will help, but there's a small chance you may end up CPU limited. 4090 is a beast much like the 1080ti was...needlessly powerful.. -

Read that depressing article, as if it wasnt bad enough. Iv'e had my laptop for 2.5 years now and really dont see the need to upgrade! will I have to wait 10 years to see 64gb ram again. why is everything de-evolving? next will be bicycles. they no longer need tires, or handle bars. breaking news!!! tens of thousands of americans are getting hurt now that they no longer have tires or handle bars making travel more cumbersome will say 15k laptop cpus have soldiered ram or just thin and light. if thats the case I dont care, not like it matters for thing and light. if 15k and 5090 is as good as the rumors suggest I might just get my last laptop for a very very long time. currently have 5 laptops and only use one. maybe I can give one a away as they are not selling -
Yeah I snagged a lume pad 2 and there is 0 chance I'm returning it. Sd 888 is nice. Same as my phone, only difference is this loads apps movies and music 3 times faster. The 3d is cool, definitely adds to the experience for nature documentaries and movies. I honestly cannot shame this thing, it has exceeded all my expectations. If it were to break I'd reorder one. Just that fast. Never experienced this kind of loading, even my omen 16 with 64gb ram reopening chrome this lume pad does it so fast it takes you by suprise. I would like to say this is the world's first tablet to do glasses free 3d and I'm pretty sure it's the longest lasting tablet also correct me if I'm wrong. At 130nits no wifi no sound looping a 1080p video with vlc in battery saver mode I get 33.5 hours of actual run time. Not calculated from a hour but rather accurately showed a drain of 3.2 percent an hour. As for gaming in real world testing I got 11 hours with 40 percent left so 18 hours of gaming. iPad air m1 can get about 9 hours gaming. When I just turn brightness up to a comfortable level and the freakishly loud speakers to 50 percent and wifi 6. I get 11 hours heavy non stop load usage.

Review of the Leia LumePad 2 3D Model- LPD-20W Technical Specs 780g Android 12 (Supports Google Play Services) Qualcomm SnapDragon 888 (2.8GHz) Qualcomm Kryo 680 (Octa-Core) Adreno 660 Qualcomm Hexagon 780 8GB LPDDR5 RAM (Extended RAM up to 14GB) 128GB Flash UFS 3.1 MicroSD UHS-1 Slot up to 2TB Fingerprint Sensor Face Unlock Li-Ion 9270mAh (Non-Removable) Super Fast Charging 65W+ High-Strength Gorilla Glass Cover Glass Anodized Aluminum Enclosure ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now this is just a quick mini review by no means does it cover everything I picked up this tablet on Amazon.com for 499.99 plus import charges and Tax to Canada coming out to around 750 CAD. steep Price for a SD888 non oled device It Has great specs but definetly not flagship in 2024 more mid range. the 2560x1600 display is vibrant and clear with good contrast no as far as Pulse width modulation goes I did a 10 hour gaming session with no signs of tired eyes. the speakers lets be honest they are usually a weakness of tablets from companies that new fresh on the market but these feature a full featured dolby atoms quad speaker array and they are loud crisp and have great mids highs but a touch weak on the lows they don't thump but they are impressively loud and clear. As for the general use performance, this thing screams like a sd 8 gen 3 processor in terms of user experience, you click you tube and before you can blink the page is loaded very zippy and responsive. The OS is android 12L and has Leia inspired themes at default, this is what people that are elitist hardcore windows/android users. minimalistic with only important APPs installed. I prefer this version of android over my S21 Ultras Android 14. so overall very nice as it lets you start from scratch and build your visual experience how you want and how it should be. Next, Battery life. now this is a strange one. typically when you max out a 800-1000 dollar tablet you get somewhere in the range of 5 hours screen on time. this bad boy not so much, you will get 3-4 hours using max brightness/performance mode/max speakers and taxing it with a heavy game or running 3d..oh yeah forgot to say this thing has a trick or two to make it one of the most interesting and immersive tablets money can buy. glasses free 3d..no gimmicks no strings attached. now this subject of battery life is strange because when you turn down the brightness to 2-8 percent brightness it looks how typical tablets look at 50 percent brightness, but heres the kicker you will easily get 11 hours taxing the tablet while gaming streaming videos and surfing the web. I personally like to set brightness slider to 0 and turn off speakers and go into airplane mode and play real racing for hours, I get 5 percent drain after 1 hour and 6 min so a little over 20 hours of gaming if you really puch the battery saving measures. as far as VLC and playing back local videos, expect an astonishingly long 33 plus hours. so yeah maxed not so good battery saver and lowering settings, unusually good. I highly recommend this tablet if you dont mind lowering settings and battery is king. Now the interesting catch twenty 2. this thing supports super fast charging 65w super charging. so your tablet will charge extremely quick so if you dont mind taking a coffee break for 10-30min this thing will be back up to 80-90 percent. Now the reason I bought the thing, Artificial Intelligence 3D conversion in real time. this thing lets you stream youtube videos that are say 4k 2d hdr in impressive 3d live with a short ten second wait to begin stream. some of the conversions look better than the imax and NASA conversions from the early 2000s its just that good. the sbs 3d movies that play natively off microsd card or internal storage look good enough to be labled holographic. its far from perfect there is sometimes flickering and ghosting but 99 percent of the time in proper lighting conditions this thing is impressive. you basically get Unlimited 3d coversions from adult sites like youtube ect. And this thing supports micro sd up to 2tb I will be getting a 1.5tb micro sd to store sbs 3d movies and a few favorites. but the fact it runs sbs movies from your home collection and converts video streams is impressive enough, leveraging AI to create depth maps that allow for accurate 3d effects and even slight pop out on native 2d movies. when I saw my first sbs avatar video I was seriously impressed kept thinking wow unreal. S oooo overall id give this tablet a solid buy if 3d interests you even the slightest. if you need a 2d tablet and wont use 3d...this tablet is not for you unless the price drops to 399.99 usd then its a very exceptional deal. so many things I missed but meh im tired posted 3 000 times small community but the die hards might just be interested in something like this.

@Mr. Fox I wanted a p11 they sent a yoga. Then I got the p11 and realized they were very similar so returned both. I ended up with a leia lume pad 2. Happy with it. Only reason is real racing 3. Its a very enjoyable racing game, Neverending game well seems that way. And yes I could have bought a killer desktop but I don't want one quite yet. If I do save up for a desktop I want a 5090 and 14k. I'm happy with what I have now but honestly need to sell 2 laptops that just sit. They are up for sale on kijiji but no one's interested even at half their value. Might have to try ebay -

I agree. But 2400 nits should be all you need with the new Sammy's and oppos. I still think it's phenomenal that oled panels are so thin pumping that level of brightness -

Bought two tablets. Yoga 11 and p11 pro from Lenovo. Returned them. For a month they said wait 24 to 48 hours for refund. Shows they received it on UPS. They acknowledged receiving yoga tab and sleeve. Now they are saying package didn't have weight so they denied my refund. Out 750 dollars. Never dealing with Lenovo again, they operate like those scammers you see on you tube -

I have a 4k OLED tv, and honestly gaming at 1080p is fine im not too crazy when it comes to graphics as most games look like they came out in 2010. I only do 4k for benchmarks but the above video just shows off a systems total power, over 300fps at 1080p ray tracing/ultra. very impressive indeed. I plan on getting a desktop eventually but I think it will be a mid range card still like playing around with settings for benchmarking. also as for the 4k vs 1080p debate i think it depends on how close you are to the actual screen, i mean if your a casual gamer your not going to be 2 feet away from a 55in tv or monitor. I think if you are 1440p with windowed mode makes more sense as when your close to the screen your per vision isnt goes to be able to take it in. one good game that still looks nice and would be sweet to see getting 1000 up fps is half life 2 from 2005/ i wonder if you can unlock framerate to see what these 14k and 4080s can do in a game thats older and well optimised/20k fps? -
bummer, I did not expect it to work, nothing ventured nothing gained. Yeah like I mean in some AAA games your going from 20fps to 50fps and its well worth the 2 minutes to apply mod, but I guess its only for nvidia gpus 3k or 2k. the biggest gain I saw was in Ratchet and clank where nothing and no settings allowed game to be playable to well over 80fps, pretty nice to see. one thing i will say though is it adds input lag so be aware of that

I tested with witcher 3. Ratchet and clank and forza..it doubles frame rates.i will tell more in a bit check gaming sub section if you want to try it Yeah I tried the star field mod, no luck but for games that natively support fg all games get almost double frame rates. I couldn't run ratchet and clank at 4k medium with my 3060 with fg im in the 50s. Thing I like is how easy the mod is and once you drop two dlls it is good to go Everytime without fiddling. At first it didn't work but once it did very impressive. Cool thing is it turns your 3060 into a 4060 basically. Has to be the dx12 folder where exe is and just double click bat file to disable checks -

@tps3443 did you know the 3090 can do frame generation by dropping two dlls into said game. Alot of people are unaware of this trick but if imagine your old 3090 would get 90 vs 50 -
younger gen is dumb, i dont think so...we are smarteerest. for example. i was having issues with my laptop. just needed lube sprayed wd40 on it and walla fixed everything after the match. newer is always better and blindly having faith in companies doing the right thing is always the right descision. when your in doubt just blindly go in full force and trust these people. why would they want billions in analytics data, like photos texts, patterns. TLDR trust them its the smarterest thing to do.
-
alot of praise and alot of hate for star field. honestly I dont know how you can not like at least the first 6 hours and since most games are not very long id say if you get gamepass and spend 6 hours its a good deal. as for paying 90 for it...if your into fallout in space type games its great just a tiny bit repetitive. I personally havent got sick of it yet mind you i havent really been playing much. just the odd race in grid 2019.
