  1. nice scores, impressive. I had a 4080 and have the highest firestrike gpu score as for steel nomad I have no idea how you managed 7100 thats a good 30 percent higher than what i would have scored with the 4080 mobile. I would have kept the laptop if the 13th gen i9 was tweakable. ended up getting a Hiboy p6 electic bike....pretty fun gets me out of the house and away from the computers(evil)
  2. are you guys progressing with scores, I went from 2120 to 2150 but its not a very forgiving benchmark, pretty mind you. I bought a 4080 laptop and returned it but i might save up and get another one similar maybe a legion. would be interesting to see how a 4080 fairs, id imagine over 60fps came in 3rd place with dx12 light. but its still early, im sure i wont be top 5 for long. have you fellas tried ghost of TShima. wonder how it runs, a benchmark would be nice not sure if ill buy it but king says its good
  3. Tried steel nomad. Basically just a graphics test in between speedway and timespy...don't see the point but it is a bit nicer on old hardware and fairly accurate. Time spy for me behaves like it has adaptive vsync on, and this so called successor does also. Fps looks like it gets locked in a calculated manner like it will skyrocket to 69fps then abruptly stop and stay at 69 even though the scene is changing
  4. nice. got a decent result top 5/2100 very slick benchmark especially the nomad light version scales really well and incredibly accurate.
  5. ooo @Papusan its not quite that bad yet, or I would have jumped ship. Getting 53k gpu in firestrike with a laptop 4080 is pretty good and was in 3090ti territory. nothings really changed except mxm and lga and bga. laptops still have power and have never and will always be weaker due to size. I wish I didnt trade my laptop back now, but getting the Hiboy ebike for recreational uses and having cash in hand is nice. I was about to buy a lenovo legion 7 pro gen 8 for 2800 but got turned off as its gpu performs worse than what I returned. in the big scheme of things you guys have 4090s and rarely game. like torture seeing it. you can probably do 8k/120 with a 4090 with dialed down settings. but long story short laptops are weaker but as for becoming more like tablets ect we are not their yet.....nothings changed
  6. Hi gentlemen. I Am having a hard time confirming what fans I need for my omen 16 it's the 3060/11800h version and need replacement gpu and cpu fans, if someone can help that would be excellent. thanks in advance heres the model Product number: 374U8UA#ABL found this Fans Illustration item 17 80 W M57161-001 Illustration item 18 60 W M57160-001 but im unsure of where to buy them, checked amazon it was like 130 bucks with shipping
  7. finally got my money back from visions. they were upset and I had to threaten small claims court, pretty sad how crooked they are, the thing had legit problems. I feel so relieved. thanks @Papusan your completely right, I should have a cell phone and a beast desktop thats it, maybe a decent tablet for the bed but laptops I think im going to listen and try n sell them off before they are worth peanuts. I found a desktop with a 13700kf and 4080 along with 32gb ddr5 ram ect, for 2300 cad or 1550 usd or something. really good deal so long as its kept for 3 - 4 years. havent bought it yet I need a chime from the desktop experts/ found this Open Box: ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OG OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card (PCIe 4.0, 24GB GDDR6X, DLSS 3, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4a) TUF-RTX4090-O24G-OG-GAMING - Newegg.ca maybe a 800cad desktop without gpu and add that....now thats an upgrade ideas? ill take this to my thread//
  8. changed mind on predator and nzxt. expensive for what you get. impulsively bought a helios 16 have found a 4080 prebuilt for 2300 so within my budget and pretty top notch. thinking of the legion desktop with 4080 or the pro7 gen 8 7945hx 4080 laptop. both are good deals one is obviously 50 percent faster but im stuck with it. a 9i with mini led display is a good deal at 3200 but im short 200 so thats that. might just save my money and wait for games to come out before upgrading as my 3060 currently still plays all games well most at 4k on medium settings
  9. alot of people are just reading your posts, welcome back you missed the debacle of the acer 3k gaming laptop lol. like 100c opening youtube. more isnt always more also if your into demanding games @tps3443 ratchet and clank a rift apart is mind blowingly nice looking on oled displays and incredibly fun, alot going on and easy to jump into.
  10. Agreement. I have done alot of smooth gaming at 4k with my 3060, the big issue is having to dial down an important setting like textures due to vram constraints, however sometimes its a very minor downgrade visually. As for smoothness 60 is my sweet spot, 40 feels good 60 is like butter and 120 as i just found out isn't for everyone, some will notice it others wont I fall in the latter category. With everything and all things considered a budget system scoring 20k on cpu and 20k on gpu in time spy is great indicator of what to expect for the next few years, smooth gaming and doesn't break the bank unless your like me(given great advice) and doing the opposite due to mental issues. excuses I know, but even I can't explain it. 3080 and 12th gen i7 is what I want but unless its 1000- 1500 cad its a no go. Can wait it out, tides will always ebb and flow and so will prices. @bros found this, finally after searching and checking and rechecking sites I found this, i wont be upgrading it, just buying it selling it and enjoying a few games. 1290$$$ CAD and 3080 open box vs refurbished and in poor condition.\ Open Box - ASUS ROG Strix G15DK Gaming PC (AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Desktop Processor/1TB SSD/32GB RAM/GeForce RTX 3080) | Best Buy Canada edit. cancelled order as the 5800x isnt very good in 2024. i have no idea whats a good deal for a desktop, whole-nother ball game. laptops just pick the specs and expect heat. desktops have more versatility..upgrade paths a good desktop costs too much. i need 2x the performance to have a reason to buy. 3070 and 3060ti or 4060 just isnt worth it. as for upgradeability. I doubt ill have money for a 5090($6k)
  11. yeah Im having to second guess my tech choices now. newer is always better. but for gaming desktops/laptops/tablets sometimes the smart choice is right smack inbetween whats on offer. Im rethinking upgrading to anything after booting up GRID 2019 and setting the important settings to ultra high and some less visually appealing settings to medium/low and yeah i chuckled at the framerates i was getting a locked 120 on some levels and 75-90 with VRR/Gsync on others. the experience ironically is identical to what I was getting out of the predator helios. basically 0 vs 3000 and with the 3000 I get 0 benefit in any way shape or form besides a number saying its better and papusan nagging me saying newer is always better, lol. I have a 3500 drive/ 5000 drive/ 7400 drive and I cannot tell which drive is which without benchmarking it with crystal disk mark. 0 difference. Im sure you save half a second or two with transfers but who doesnt have a second or two to waste. ok Iv'e whittled it down. 1) buy golden crocs and bench the poop outta my 3060 get better/newer scores and call it a day 2) buy a legion 7i with 4080 3) build a desktop from the ground up with a 4070ti super 4) SAVE ok because I want the very best overclocking gear and love my current setup just ordered these for 2867.99 cad free shipping'
  12. I third that, I bought a pci 4 drive also, great price. 4tb 7400mbs for 300 cad
  13. ryan

    HomeLab

you should start up a computer business, you would be super successful. and when you do succeed imagine what you could do(travel), I have no idea what a home lab is or what its used for but sounds like alot of cables and know how.
  14. I might be a nomad soon. travelling around. still thinking about a legion 9i on sale for 3100cad with a 3,2k miniled display. but still 3k it better be good and even if it is is it worth the 3k. I need to sell all my laptops except my zenbook which I actually for the first time didnt have buyers remorse, gorgeous laptop in everyway. bought a backpack that fits upto 16in laptops, so yeah might be moving around soon. when the time comes I hope I end up in heaven not hell. if their is such a thing. who knows what happens when we die, no ones come back
  15. Woah I feel I huge sense of relief.. returned the laptop. It was faulty. Artifacts on chrome and crashing and overheating like I've never seen..not so much reported temps but keyboard area being hot enough to cook an egg. Realized one thing though. My omen still has the power to last another 1 -2 years. Fg was nice and gaming at 120fps was nice also. But honestly 60 felt just as good for whatever reason. Thanks for the help and opinions. Need to be less impulsive
  16. oh ok. thanks sorry bros I messed up. also though I fixed the issues I had with this craptop. I love laptops but less now. 1) changed power limit to 105w 2) when im getting 140-400fps I just lock frame rate to 120 and accordingly to 60 if need be. 3) using my cooler in a way that cools laptop better 4) just using stock clocks 5) temps were 68c gpu and 78c on cpu after 1 hour of gaming. so its actually quite good. timespy score of just over 18k so right in line with other manufactures and other variations of the 4080. 6) I have options, I can disable e cores for 25 percent gpu boost. also I can wait for a bios update or shunt mod 7) happy camper now, sure I can't get an extra 10-20 percent boost via overclocking but thats not common with laptops these days, main boosts comes from lowering unessessary settings and technologies like DLSS.
  17. interesting. lol Both are maxed out. I see laptop like sports cars and desktops like dump trucks. I like sleek women and sleek computers. performance? I can max out a game with boost off and net the same framerate. no gaming difference from 2.2ghz to 5.4ghz. been that way for a long time. I don't video edit.(many people dont run a mavels comics studio in their basement)
  18. thankfully I found that. looks like everyone has the same problem so I guess im getting premo performance out of it..lolz average as per my luck/choices. I am debating on risking never being able to set foot in visions, 3k is alot of cashola. I would make them take it back. ha its funny because I went in this with a level head thinking....ok this thing will run hot with its i9 and if i get stock performance out of the gpu thats better than my omen experience. well it scores 19500 on gpu stock no overclock but thats about it for scores. I cant push it, only way to get a higher gpu score is to disable e cores in bios then overclock it like crazy in turbo mode, but just like it sounds it gets toasty, top plate was smoking hot with my cooler, so i removed cooler thinking the vents might have just been blocked and it was inhibiting the cooling. in the end its the same temps but laptop chassis feels cool to the touch even after 40 min session. played ratchet and clank for 20 min and was around 90-120fps maxed at 1600p and then some 2019 grid the racing game for an hour. felt the hot spot and it was just luke warm, so its possible the temps are false because it sure isn't throttling or feeling hot it just says 99-100c but funny thing is when its at 99c it boosts from 5100 to 5400mhz lol this thing caught my schizophrenia, it litterally is crazy, I set the tdp to 50w and the thing boosts to 5.4ghz and reports 55w and basically behaves the same if it were 157w...thats a first in computing for me. honestly I think this laptop is designed for newbs to just run great out of the box but not designed nor allowing tweaking to improve or modify. I have changed the nvidia control panel settings with nvidia profile inspector and when id typically see a 5-10percent boost im seeing 0.1 percent change up or down. very interesting laptop in that i hope this isnt the future. I thought it was bad enough they removed mxm ect but locking software settings to save time on the phone troubleshooting with a random guy...terrible very cheap.. but as far as laptops for 3k and a 4080 go i had a legion locked for 2800 but with a amd 7945hx and im glad i didn't go for it as the miniled display on this laptop is incred. I actually got wowed with how smooth and clear it is, it actually makes the games look better while moving. sure it has great colors but i have a sony and lg tv for that sort of thing. its the motion that blows me away. to keep or not to keep. i need your guys opinion. keep in mind its a monster upgrade over what i typically have. and im happy with stock performance. ok so ive decided to disable e cores and overclock gpu and heres the end result.. is this worth 3k over a 3060. heres what it can do with a little bump of gpu and a bump down to cpu and in the end its for gaming heres cyber punk 1440p highest preset. and the verdict. its better than a 4070 desktop so as far as pricing goes its a fair deal. using the same settings without FG at 1440 I ran benchmark and got 46fps average which is 8-10fps higher than his stock 4070 actually if its around an overclocked 4070 I got ripped...saw this of course after a purchase. Legion Tower 5i Gen 8 (Intel) with RTX 4070 | Lenovo CA 2100cad. building my own would be the way to go but im honestly thinking of just returning this and using my 3060 laptop as it plays all games just fine albeit dailed down settings at 4k. @Clamibot honestly its not worth upgrading to the bleeding edge. if games were good and being released that needed a 4080 it would be ok but thats it we are left with crappy console ports. I would skip 4090 generation, but if you do decide to jump on it consider a miniled laptop with a 4080, only brave shunt modders benefit from the 4090s power. I think @seanwee broke 26k gpu in timespy.
  19. honestly I have a great bin gpu. it does 205/600---up and im happy with that but overclocking gains of 50 percent are long gone, we just don't get the massive gains, now its like 5-10 percent boost. I think im going to keep it, im happy with 18k timespy and 70c temps. 4k/1600p not a bad option and the fact in games im able to turn off ecores and get 4090 performance with one bios setting im pretty happy with that. I think its a boost of going from 44k to 50k with a flick of a switch and the temps are just fine with this setting. lose cpu performance but honestly ive been testing for 3 days and can't find a game that needs more cpu power than the setting im using (3.4ghz)
  20. the only way to get 70c temps is to set it to performance and run cpu at 3.5ghz vs the stock 5.4ghz. the gpu slows down clocks and overclocking on gpu and cpu is locked out but the saving grace is the high stock performance. I was excited because I want to push it to the limit and get some records, not happening aside from the 53k on firestirke gpu score. I dont think having a great gpu and overheating i9 cpu is a big deal as games really dont need this kind of power cpu wise. like I disabled turbo so it was running at 2.2ghz and to my suprise all the games i like were unaffected.
  21. its hard to say. I feel ashamed, I called them and mentioned the overheating and the rep acted as though its common place and im not sure if they will allow me to return it, if I can't Its still a great laptop but Im inclined to return it and just tough it out, keep the money and make due with my 3060. like do i really need 260-300 fps in a few good games, sure its fast but does it change the expeience and make the game funner or more immersive. if I want immersive I have my meta quest 2, if I want a one touch system then I could have bought an xbox for 500. I think im going to hang tight on this one, It will last me 5 years, my omen lasted 2 years and it was worth every penny. I have 6 laptops now, and im sure I can sell some on ebay for a decent dollar, that way im not just collecting laptops that are in turn collecting dust. lucky for me I have a 4tb ssd thats sitting around my place and can put it into the acer, I havent tried 4k gaming on my oled tv but perhaps when i get the chance to hook it all up and do what i planned(4k gaming) ill change my mind. 4k/120 is what i wanted...we will see if the 4080-4090 laptops can do 4k
  22. been playing with this thing for three days. thoughts this thing runs hot, then again it has top end products in a semi thin and light its to be expected. honestly though if your gunning for stock performance like say 18k in time spy and 37k in firestrike, which is double a rtx 3060 I say its great it hovers mid 60s once tuned for stock scores. gaming, honestly its called a 4080 175w but it runs like a 4090 when both are stock, I love this thing for one reason....when I boot up windows I don't have to tweak, its basically a one trick pony, press a button and your given max performance that this thing can handle. If your into overclocking and scores, this thing is terrible. runs too hot to overclock and has no wiggle room its either lower cpu to gain on gpu or visa versa no middle ground...once you balance gpu and cpu the end result is a laptop that feels like its on fire suprised it doesnt glow red like a ember. i'll have to decide to keep it or take it back. am I happy with stock 4090 performance for 3000 bucks or was my 3060 laptop good enough. honestly all this thing did was double framerates it does nothing else, and when you can simply turn on dlss and lower settings the experience for gaming is the same. one big thing I will mention though is FG, when you have double the rasterization power and add frame generation its 4x the framerates. I was getting 7fps in cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p full settings. now at 1600p and with the help of power and FG im seeing 76fps..example below. thats 12x the performance and if this is an indicator of where my money went then ill take it. but not every game I like has FG just a handful of some top games. if your following this thread and want to game...I swear just buy a xbox series x and call it a day. 205/650 stock as you can see, the overclock does almost nothing to performance. 0 reason to overclock when you gain 5-7fps and your temps go from 60c to 100c...sad day for me. realize things have caught up to gaming, we don't need 7ghz cpus and when 2.2ghz 24core cpu gets same game performance as 5.4ghz i feel a sinking gut feeling my hobbys dead look carefully at the temps in the pictures. 98c in the flipping menu while gpu is overclocked and cpu is in turbo/ thats with fans on max and a iets gt500 beastly cooler and liquid metal. then with turbo off its 66c in menu. example of what you get no tweeks. whisper mode, basically silent balanced, first mode that lets you adjust fan speed performance mode, no overclock just plain neutral performance this is the magic one. great performance(4090 level) great temps turbo, overclocked gpu(100/200) cpu at 5.4ghz highest settings laptop cant cool turbo mode so i dont know why it exists and who feels comfortable with 95c on cpu and 91c on gpu after a 10min session.
  23. nice... yeah I wont be getting 40k unless acer releases the bios update to allow for overclocking. I managed to get 29k stock. not great not bad. Im playing around with it now and just have one goal...get cpu temps under control and have decent performance. i might just overclock gpu and throttle cpu and use 4k. I will be gpu bottlenecked anyways.
  24. thanks @Papusan I thought 30 days. turbo causes the cpu to overheat but I expected that from a laptop with a i9 13900hx. in the end its faster than a 12th gen i9 even when underclocked so its not a deal breaker. performance is incredible I remember @tps3443 posting crysis benchmarks and thought about what it would be like to have a computer like that. I honestly dont know how the heck to optimize this thing. get good cpu performance/average overall performance/gpu performance. pick one ha. so yeah its a bit frustrating finding out the cpu is locked.
