I played a bit of BF 2042 last night and the 9070 XT is boosting to like 3375, most of the time running 3100-3200 MHz. This is with a -0.060 undervolt and +10% power limit. Leaving it on stock defaults it is like 1.100V and rarely boosting to 3000. Definitely need to crack this thing open and see what I can do with the temps. Especially the memory. They've got the wrong pads or something. I haven't seen video memory temps this high since cryptomining with the 3090 KPE.

9070 XT handle BF2042 at 4K with maxed out settings without issue. FPS range from about 70 to 120 with an average of around 90 FPS.

good topic to mention, as opposed to the 4090 im definitely planing to pimp up the cooling on the 5090, seeing as our best chance to do overclocking is keeping the card as cool as possible (or shunt modding, which is not an option for me).

in this context i was thinking of going putty all around and also covering the complete backside of the gpu to make use of the metal backplate.

in this context i need some input from you bros  @Mr. Fox  @Papusan or anyone else with regards to the gpu core: would u recommend going liquid metal, PTM7950 / graphene pad or a highend paste like Duronaut (just got in a batch of that for testing).

trying to balance cooling performance and the need for maintenance on this one. liquid metal should give the best results, although on the much larger GPU silicon the temp drops shouldnt be as significant as on a CPU i imagine. but with LM ill run the risk of having to repaste after a few months due to dry out. id like to avoid that after having plastered putty all over the PCB 😛 so best to do a one and done kinda deal 😄

    any input appreciated 🙂

Maybe consider parting your current system out. Probably make more money, and sell things faster. 4090’s are in high DEMAND! Especially the nicer ones.

oh im not planning to sell my whole system 😄 so itll definitely be just the parts im upgrading: CPU, SSDs, GPU

and yes, im quite optimistic about landing a good price for my 4090 with current market conditions 🙂

If you have an established account at overclock.net I would first list the items in the marketplace here and at overclock.net so you can bypass the fees from peeBay and PayPal. You can count on losing 10% or charging at least 10% more than what you actually want/need to offset the fees. I haven't needed to sell anything on peeBay since I started selling in forum marketplaces.

no account at overclock.net, have just been a lurker these past few years. but i might do a thread in the marketplace here 🙂

Congrats brother. Nice you got what you wanted. It's typical that France and China shops often get more cards than rest of the other countries. And people in these regions are often the first to get hold in the newest tech. If you see etc new gen HOF cards, be you sure it will pop up in China and France before all other places

NVIDIA continues to dig deep with its drivers: users unite, frustrated, and launch massive bug reports, all RTX affected

huh i had no idea about france in this context! good to know, will expand my hardware searches to french shops then. thats the good thing about the EU, aside from shipping no extra tax/customs for imported goods 🙂

abso-frigging-lutely! never ordered at this french shop before, but trustpilot gives it a 96% positive rating with 200k+ reviews, so i think im good 😄

cheapest available in germany was 300€ more, with most offers at 500€ more than what i paid now. can definitely live with that 🙂

now to prepare my 7950X, 4090 Suprim and the V1 AM5 IHS for sale on fleabay. Those together with my SSDs should bring in the 5090 price easily, with 1k+ to spare (good savings baseline for the 6090 LOL)

  5. aight boiz, the wait is at an end!

for the first time EVER, a notification system actually WORKED 😄

while i was re-installing the soft cover of my little princess car seat after washing (was about time, that thing was NASTY, crumbs n stains galore 😄 ), i glanced at my phone and there it was: an in-stock notification for the RTX 5090 Suprim (Air) at a reputable french online shop!

Transferred funds, finalized order, wham bam thank you ma`am!

And just in time, as well, their supply was sold out inside of 10 min.

Current info I have is that it will be prepared and shipped out inside of 7 days, should be good!

PS: ah yes, pricing LOL. so that was about 160€ below my budgeting limit 🙂

See if the 2200 can handle a 90 min TM5 and an hour of Karhu at least. Worst case, fun benches. Best case, stable D2D at 2200!

Agreed, 9000 series runs cooler and better than 7000. I had a 9950x3d ready for checkout on BB, but just couldn't justify it but 9800X3D vs my old 7800X3D it is much better across the board in every aspect. I can just imagine how much better the 9950X3D would be vs my old 7950X3D and the 7950X3D was known for running cooler and better than the 7950X.

When you lop off its head, results are gonna be quite nice! Looking forward to some memory/cpu comparison data of the 7950X vs your 9950X3D.

yup, TM5 is my go-to to dial in D2D FCLK overclocks, works like a charm with the anta777 absolut config 🙂 same goes for D2D RAM OC including subtimings.

RTX 5090’s are under-volting pretty well. Essentially, it’s up to silicon quality. You can’t really crash so easily with this generation. The card will run its max clock speed for that selected voltage and the GPU seems to have an idea of what that clock speed max for that set voltage should be, or at least on the newest drivers it seems like it knows.

Definitely can bring power way down for a GPU that’s overkill in practically every game right out of the box (Especially 4K+200% upscaled to 8K. This GPU is a MONSTER for MS Flight Sim 8K, and the RTX4090 could already get it done at 50-60fps)

So far, I have set a 2.9Ghz @0.900MV in MSI Afterburner and I shaved off 110 watts of power, and about 10c in temps. These cards use way more voltage stock than they really need. You’ve got to think we idle on the desktop around 0.800mv. So, we can almost apply the full stock boost clock speed of the RTX 5090 FE with nearly the idle voltage.

    Steel Nomad scored 14,500

noice. out of curiosity, what would be ur max frequency at the minimum 800mV core voltage?

And, this CPU is better than the one in the Gene. It can handle 2200 FCLK. The other 9950X won't boot at 2200. It caps out at 2175. I am going to have the check the SP rating and see how it works on an ASUS mobo that has better voltage control. That will have to wait for another day. I'll likely wait until the APEX drops and then delid it.

    acpIKzY.jpg

keep us posted on the SP ratings for both your 9950X cpus, im highly interested.

i was literally SHOCKED when i saw the load temps on my stock lidded 9950X3D with CB2024 and CB R23... 200W package load maxed out at a measly 76C, with average temps even lower. at first i thought i mightve messed something up with the fan settings in bios after upgrading, but nope...it is just THAT much colder, absolutely insane. my 7950X easily broke 90C, sometimes creeping up to 94-95C depending on the ambient temps.

delidding and swapping out the IHS should result in craaaaazy OC headroom, both for CPU and RAM 🙂

Come on, it's just a graphics card. I think I'm a lot less excited now than when I got the 4090's like  the Suprim and the HOF. The performance boost from the 4090 over the 3090 was just legendary. Not so much this time with the new overpriced refresh from Nvidia. And I won't even use the new MFG feature nvidia bragging about (5070 beat 4090).

What I'm most excited about is seeing if the idiots from the shipping company have trashed the original box. I took a few pictures when I picked up the package in the post office.

Well it looks like Safedisk got handed another extraordinary silicon sample, as usual. I wonder how many ASUS had to bin and cull to find this one. Unless you have one this good I don't think it's possible to find much benefit in owning an X870E Apex if you have an average 9950X/X3D sample. $800 is too costly to justify with an average CPU. The Gene gave me no real benefit over the Cabron other than the crappy gamerboy MSI firmware that is missing important settings.

Loads of 5070's is ofloaded today here home. And a few 5070Ti and 5080. I see there is still  3 out of 10 pc of Asus 5080 Astral OC available for purchase here home now 6.5 hour after the slip. $1660 USD. I think Asus have reached the limits what they can sell their 5080 flagship for right now. I doub't they increase the prices in the pace they have done. And no other brands 5080 is listed yet youcan buy Asus 5080 cards. That speak loudly about the price point Asus want. As a side note... Gigabyte want $1730 for their best 5080. Not sure what'sup with Gigabyte this gen cards.

The cards should be delivered to Papusan's plaza within the next 5-7 days. And exactly the card I tried to buy.

dude, congratz! im jealous, although the stream of 5090s available for purchase has been quite constant recently, MSI cards are few and far between. most of them are basic zotac / gainward / palit cards, which i have zero interest in. and the few MSIs are either ventus / gaming trio or the liquid SOC. the only place im seeing the air cooled SOC is on ebay, ugh...

im like you in this regard, when spending such a huge amount of money i damn well sure get the card i actually want!

I received these and got them set up on my work rig. Just... wow... much better display quality than my older ASUS 4K 120Hz display, and these actually even look nicer when turned off. The ASUS screen has a wide bezel and ugly chassis with absurd RGB garbage on the back and a chintzy snap on plastic panel that makes accessing the connections inconvenient. I have never been overly thrilled with how it looks sitting on my desk. (Typical tacky-looking ASUS aesthetics.) And, I don't like that is uses a power brick like a turdbook. That is the only monitor I have owned that is made that way and it sucks.

322 out of total 820 4090 owners got an email, thats 39.3%

37 out of 1847 non-4090 owners got en email, thats 2.0%

Congrats, brother. Super happy you got what you wanted. I love when that happens.

Nope. No interest in 5090 now, and especially not  an FE engineering abortion. Plus, I don't want to reward NVIDIA for being a scummy outfit.

You honestly don't need one. Save your money for something better later on. Minus DLSS 4 and extra fake frames it produces it's not a meaningful upgrade to 4090. If you take those things away it's not that much of an upgrade, even though the ginormous price tag suggests otherwise.

The X3D processors are of no special value outside of gaming, but they are the undisputed king in that area.

Everyone else is better served with an ordinary CPU with core parking disabled.

If they are cherry-picking binned silicon for the 9950X3D that might interest me, but we haven't seen enough of them in the wild to know if they overclock significantly higher than non-3D 99550X. If they can do 6.0GHz or higher on all 16 cores that would impress me enough to buy one. Not sure why they did not use 3D cache on both CCDs. That might have been more interesting. Relying on a crap OS like Winduhz 11 to identify the game and manage the CPU behavior is stupid IMHO. If the entire CPU (all CCDs) were equally binned and using cache, with core parking disabled that might be a real hell-raiser CPU. Having only one CCD on cache is a turn-off because it relies on drivers and software to function properly, and expecting it to function properly 100% of the time is probably unrealistic. Having to use a POS OS like Winduhz 11 with special patches and software in order to enable the functionality kills the idea instantly for me.

snatched a second one at MSRP and cancelled the first one, 30 bucks saved! 😄😄😄

i was actually thinking of you bro Fox when reading through the 9950X3D reviews. its regularly beating the 9950X at the same power budget, it seems they kept all the high bin chiplets for this sku (both X3D and non-X3D chiplets). the X3D clocks up to 5.55, with the non-X3D going to 5.7. funny enough, at the stock power budget of 200W the all core clocks 100-150 Mhz higher than the regular 9950X, pointing to improved V/F curves.

so the X3D part MIGHT actually overclock better. wanna give it a shot? 😏😁
