I appreciate your huge engagement bro jaybee🙂 And yep, I knew you would be sucked freely into new threads like this one🙂 @Mr. Fox have you already test it?
haha its indeed good to be back in full force! i just installed the modded 512.54 desktop driver by XtremeG on my lady`s new machine sporting the 3070M Ti, seems to be running smoothly, so for now no need to update. besides, the upcoming Prema magic will do much more than just another broken driver update 😄

Haven't applied May update on Win 10. I use wait and see approach nowadays
word. best tactic with windows updates is to delay them a few weeks / months and only then install them (if at all). been running like that for years now and no issues whatsoever 🙂
currently setting up my lady's new machine (Clevo NH55JNNQ) and installed a modded WIn11 by this group here: https://phoenixliteos.com/
anyone tried them before? i chose their WIn11 Pro Plus build version 22000.652 and i must say i am very pleased! super small install size, very low ram usage and basically no cpu cycles used up and all tweaks n options that i usually add to my win installs already implemented. add to that that its free since the project is based on donations only. you should check them out and give them a try 🙂

Please post your results. I wonder how much this new Nvidia driver will destroy for the users.
aaaaah, another NBR tradition transferred, i love it. let the driver wars begin 🤪

its sad that Intel does not allow those additional 4 OC bins anymore on non-K mobile chips. the recent trends are a bit worrying, even undervolting is being blocked nowadays, ugh...
but in any case, this same fact makes playing around with older gen hardware all the more fun. enjoy, guys 🙂

Just replaced thermal paste for carbonaut on 15R2 after replacement battery was dead again. Although temps didn't change much the uneven core temps are gone. On GPU carbonaut didn't make a difference due to large surface area
thats impressive, id actually expect the opposite = thermal paste more even core temps, since the carbonaut pad is so super thin...

yep, although eurocom is surely not the most price competitive out there, they definitely carved out a niche for themselves in terms of providing quick n easy upgrade packages for DTR laptops (mostly Clevo). that lets them stand out from the crowd for sure, so they want to be certain they provide the service that goes with it to not lose their (finicky, but enthusiast) customer crowd 😛

Absolutely fantastic post bro! Definitely some classic Clevo inconsistencies as always. Looking forward to the thermal testing and scores both CPU and GPU.
thanks man, appreciate the motivational booster, makes it fun 🙂 next step is to get my system stable with two RAM sticks first, since ill rely on it to reset the SSD and do troubleshooting whenever required. after that ill get to installing windows / driver / programs / games on the new machine and do baseline benches and thermal testing. THEN i can ping brother Prema and we can get this show on the road 🤠

yes i am. should arrive this tuesday (17th of May)
regarding Eurocom i contacted them asking if i needed to purchase a new heatsink to which they offered me a huge discount on one from the P775TM1-G that fits my P775DM3-G and its designed to RTX GPU's! So i will get the gpu and the heatsink in a single package
cool man, glad you're taken care of 🙂

aight, i figured before i forget all the thicknesses lets do this real quick 😛
here we go (numbers indicate mm thickness):
1 and 4 mm are "native" pads, whereas for 2mm i just stacked 1mm pads, works just fine 🙂 blues are arctic, light grey is fujipoly extreme 17W/mK and dark grey is Phobya Ultra. in case youre wondering, i prioritized the leftover fujipoly extreme pads for the gpu vRAM and then switched to arctic (performance wise, arctic lies between fujipoly 11 and 14 W/mK) once i ran out 😄
here some additional pics, first up the overview after disassembly and cleaning:
unfortunately, tri-pod assembly for the gpu cold plate 🙄 but the cooling system itself looks quite robust and capable, looking forward to stress testing it!
here a close up of GPU, CPU and power delivery:
shiny! 😁
lastly, the stock arrangement of thermal pads, cheap-ass stuff which wasnt even properly covering all compoents its supposed to cool:
rule of thumb for proper thermal pad application: DO NOT cut and place the thermal pads based on the cooling plate but rather on the ACTUAL COMPONENTS being cooled! most times the cold plate is a bit shorter than the component and thus doesnt cover it whole, so best to at least cut and place the pads in such a way that they cover the whole component. better than parts of them being left "naked" and not being heatsinked at all.
example: look at the image directly above, notice how the thermal pad on the lower right corner (behind the stamped date) is only covering "one and a half" vRAM modules? yep, so basically half of one vRAM module was left completely naked with that setup. compare that to the equivalent vRAM chips shown on the first picture after repadding, theyre all properly and completely covered.
aight, nuff said for now, off to dreamland!
cheers guys

Yeah just 3.70. Did you find an issue with it? I only really used it to set the keyboard backlighting then uninstalled. I did notice that the profile switcher always thought the system was in entertainment mode.
No fingerprint sensor.
I took mine with me on a flight with two connections yesterday. Way easier to travel with than the X170 and get through security. You can't really even tell it has an LGA CPU.
nah no issue, just a habit of mine to hunt down the most updated driver packages for a fresh install 🙂 thx for confirming.
yeah ikr @cant tell it sports desktop socket, its significantly smaller and lighter than my P751DM, pretty amazing!
ok so driver hunting is done and i also built the system together with my lady, just finished repadding the whole thing, might as well do it while its disassembled (we all know how crappy stock thermal pads are, both in terms of thermal conductivity and also placement!)
i used fujipoly extreme, arctic and phobya extreme pads for replacement. thicknesses required were 1, 2 and 4 mm.
also took some pics and will detail the position and thickness of all the thermal pads, might help other users here if they decide to do some performance maintenance 🙂
one weird thing i encountered: i took two of my ddr4-3800 sticks out of my machine to give them to my gf (thus 16GB each), but now with two sticks my machine doesnt wanna boot the memory profile anymore lol. in theory, two sticks should actually run better than four, but my system only posts the custom memory profile with all four sticks, at 2 it shows blackscreen 😄 will need to figure out a new profile i guess...
but now time to hit the sack, cheers!

Before anyone gets too excited, only part of the code is going to be open sourced. It's certainly a step in the right direction, though.
now my first question: what does nvidia get out of it? with the green goblin, always follow the money, they never do anything out of the "goodness of their heart" 😋

I think justice often works itself out in time. Getting money for nothing doesn't really deserve to end well for anyone. Wealth needs to be earned. Even when it is inherited, somebody earned it in the beginning and it is appropriately acquired. Crypto isn't earned and it is intangible. There is no basis to complain about it losing value because it is imaginary money. There is a real basis to complain and be fearful about savings set aside from money earned and years of labor sustaining devastating losses. It is sobering to think some of that might be caused deliberately. It's laughable to think that crypto losses would be given a second thought or carry any weight in that same context. Stupidity and evil are becoming the new definitions for normalcy.
agreed, thats what i try to keep telling ppl who go all hype and want to "invest" into crypto. its not backed by anything except belief, might as well go to church instead, would likely have a healthier mental bump than these imaginary coins.
sure, some might say that fiat money is the same, i.e. imaginary or that the stock market in general is also only based on belief. but both is only partly true, because both are based on something everyone can relate to: real economies, real companies with employees, real work being done, real goods and services being exchanged. and crypto? it goes poof, comes out of nowhere (= being "mined" via solving artificial equations that dont lead to anything except burning as much electricity as whole countries), is based on the "belief" that one might "get rich quick" (gotta love those schemes, eh?) and then disappears into the night during the next crash as if it was never there. and SUDDENLY people bitch around that theyre gonna be homeless and lost their life savings?!?! like, seriously? NEVER invest NON-disposable income! investing is by definition disposable because of inherent risks involved.
sorry for the rant, but from my side there is absolutely NO feeling sorry for the idiots jumping onto such hype trains and spending basically their whole material existence on...well....nothing! 😅
oh and please dont start with "currency of the future! decentralized! anonymous! power to the people!" BS. as if anyone is using crypto as actual currency, its basically just digital chips being gambled in a global casino...

Well, the Byski RAM water block lowered my temps by 10°C under load at 6800 CL30. I love how easy that EK manifold makes it to add components to the loop. Literally zero fuss involved. When I receive the Supercool bare die block, I may test if the RAM load temps improve further using thermal paste instead of thermal pads on the memory ICs.
(n)ice! do the lower temps help with stability / oc on the ram? also how far up do u dare to go with the vdimm on ddr5? 1.575 is already quite impressive 😅would be like 1.72V on ddr4...

man, gotta love the older alienware stuff, theyre all built like tanks (including the laptops). every time i see a current laptop or desktop setup by alienware it just hurts inside to see such a glorious brand fall so deep.... ugh
that being said, awesome work on the repainting! i like the creme-color kinda white ure using, very smoooooooooooooooooth 🤠

Nope. They tried fix bugs they introduced with previous monthly patch (where they tried fix problems that occured with programs that use .NET Framework 3.5). Of course they screwed up this time as well.. That's the usual from the Redmond based monkey company. Nothing unusual here🙂

KB5013943 May 2022 update is crashing apps on Windows 11
If you installed the May 2022 cumulative update on Windows 11, you might have noticed that many of the apps you use all the time aren't working as they used toi dont even know if id rather cry in the corner, laugh my butt of or just shrug at that. i think for my mental health the latter would probably be the best option 😄

I so wish we could have a MicroCenter here. I don't really understand why there isn't one. There is no doubt in my mind it would be wildly successful, and Arizona is one of the most favorable venues for business due to the very conservative approach, low property taxes, super-low income tax, etc. That is why Intel, AMD, TSMC and Motorola all have huge facilities here. It is also a very tech-friendly enviornment. The state rewards businesses and business owners here rather than punish them... very similar to Texas.
Now that Fry's is dead and gone they would have no competition whatsoever, unless you count Best Buy. I wouldn't count them because Best Buy generally only handles the mediocre middle-market consumer product models and components that I'd never consider buying. As a general rule, they do not stock or sell enthusiast-grade components. There are random exceptions, but few and far between.
https://community.microcenter.com/discussion/8888/new-stores#latest
even though im not located in the states ive heard this complaint about "PLEASE GIMME MOAR MC STORES!" basically eeeeverywhere. seems like they have a very very cautious approach regarding expansion and would rather focus more on expanding / pimping up their existing stores. cant blame them, high level of competency and service is not easy to implement. same goes probably for EVGA, thats why theyre always late to the party and always low on stock (everyone wants their good shit! 😄 )

got the machine in today! very sleek, got a nice feel to it. and amazing to see how much smaller the footprint is, including the 230W brick which is also way smaller than the 230W brick i originally got with my P751DM. good to see that psu tech also made some progression!
next steps: compile driver package, secure erase ssd via linux, prep windows install usb, build system with gf, then install everything and get to tuning 😁

And the drama continues.....
I just go my board back today and this is what I get. Junk in the cpu slot. Broken release mechanism on PICE slot along with bent center part of PCIE slot. Broken stuff falling from box.

how much u wanna bet theyll say that u did that? due to "unprofessional handling" of the board because u aint one of their "highly trained" technicians? 😂

IIRC, You will need to potentially dremel down a small section of the original heatsink to make it fit properly. Maybe 1" to 1.5" section but I do know Eurocom offers a compatible heatsink to match their GPU upgrades. Are you getting your heatsink from them too?
ah, good ol' dremel...reminds me of the time when i dremeled together a complete heatsink for a 960M out of thin copper metal sheets interconnected with thermal paste and thermal pads used for 3D standoffs to lie flush with the card 😂 it actually worked! that was way back on an Asus C90S...good old days haha

I can tell you without shred of doubt that W/mK doesn't mean jack. Those ratings depend on a lot of factors. It may be a thermal putty, but it does not look like a putty when it heats up. It creates this thin greasy layer that has some crazy thermal transfer properties for laptops. There is a reason why Lenovo went with this over liquid metal, or liquid metal pads like the other brands are now using. I've used a LM laptop and I wasn't impressed by the OEM job. I have used LM in the past on delidded CPUs and the results are great, and I've also used it on bare die laptops and it definitely works but not that much better than this stuff for all the mess and risk. LM is better, but I would bet it's not more than a 5c difference.
This is after I opened the laptop and didn't bother redoing the PTM stuff. I sort pushed more towards the middle and left it. The temps are still great. That is with a 105w sustained load in a HP Omen 16" jokebook. Before doing this the laptop could barely sustain 75w without thermal throttling near 100c. 105w would have immediately shut down lol. No traditional thermal paste even comes close to this stuff regardless of how many W/mK they put on the label.
yes agreed on the W/mK values not being the end of all, at least not when it comes to exact comparisons. however, they still give an inkling of what to expect, i.e. a 2 W/mK vs. 18 W/mK vs. 75 W/mK should give a good idea of which material would perform better or worse in a direct comparison.
that said, 105W at 70s to 80s looks pretty promising, what were ur ambient temps? got any other paste lying around for comparison?
