  1. Good evening everyone, Long story short, this will be a bit of a rant. The beginning - I initially purchased a modem and router to replace the leased equipment from the provider, cant remember modem but the router I still have. Archer C5. It served its purpose. More or less. Later I upgraded to the AX50, I was happy to have WiFi 6 as I upgraded my Ranger at the time to have the x1650x. This was after using of using the C5 along with a USB powered Wireless N hotspot/router that I used to boost the signal to my room. tl;dr stepping up from the band-aid fix. I later replaced the C5 with the C9, mostly to get Gigabit speeds via ethernet, the C5 only has 100Mb ports. With the understanding that the C5 and C9 could do Wireless bridge mode via WDS function, I erroneously purchased a second AX50. The thought process was that I could use the second AX50 in WDS mode while also using Link Aggregation on the workstation. Its a Precision 7810 that has a single Gigabit Ethernet port + 1Gbit NIC via PCI. The idea was to take advantage of the Intranet speed that this would in theory allow. The 7810 is my Plex server, that I was also entertaining the thought of turning into a steam stream system (or something akin to that). Problem is, no AX router supports WDS. Okay, well that sucks. What about custom firmware perhaps? Nope. Closed source. Upon further research, I discovered this reddit thread here. A sort of twisting the knife to this little conundrum. Tonight - My needs are beginning to go out of bounds of typical user I suppose? While I consider myself a hobbyist at best for hardware, I am more or less a laymen in the networking genre. So heres my question to you guys. What would be a good hardware platform to build a network from? I get there is OpenSense. How would I go about building a network that I can expand on as time progresses? The needs are obvious basic 8080 traffic for the home users, Plex transcribing, potential for steam streaming. What I would like to do is build an SCCM/MDT server and start a HomeLab revolving around that as that may be the direction my work goes into. Thanks in advance everyone
  2. That was just the older standard, DDRL3 moved to 1.35v I believe with Haswell but prier generations were also compatible. Could also try forcing no page file and see how your RAM behaves differently in Windows and gaming
  3. I do not disagree, in general when there is a quick quip here and there, I dont intervene. As its more work for me, and insufferable for our members. Lets just say it looked like a good place to exit the highway. An interesting idea, shoot me a PM when you have some spare time I'd like to flesh it out. Very well put, Thank You @electrosoft
  4. Steer it back off Politics fella's If you would be so kind. regards <3
  5. @tps3443 I'd say sleep on it, and if you sell it, do so with a clause that the chip was tuned @ NBT. I may have a small bias though lol, honestly though I'd weigh the options. CENS could come across a better chip and the offer goes away, you basically still have your chip and continue business as usual. Otherwise you basically get to try your hand with the Silicon Lottery again with some spare change in your pocket. It might make a 4090 purchase more reasonable, unless you already got one? Its hard to keep up with peoples builds sometimes. I would lean towards selling it only in the instance that @Mr. Fox mentioned. Where gaming takes #1 seat and benching takes #2. I would still sleep on it as I imagine it would take a little time to get the PC torn down again, and if you dont have another system to float you then your basically on down time again. Can you still get away with using Windows 10 for the most part or is Windows 11 being pushed?
  6. First run basic firestrike 5.1Ghz and 4200mhz ddr4 xmp 1 working well. Now to get 4400mhz+ 2x gtx 690 @ stock w/ twin turbo cooler from Arctic
  7. That RAM is just probably older, as its 10600 which means 1333. You now have faster ram and 4x as much quantity
  8. Figured it had to be something simple lol Was so befuddled because the same kit let me push the 2700x to 4.2 with 3800mhz
  9. Same modules. I let them run default to get the CPU OC to 51 first then start working on the memory. Then switched it to XMP 1, no POST, XMP 2, no POST. Perhaps I have the wrong DIMM slots populated, checking now. Looks like A1B1. From what I am reading here, looks like I should move the DIMMS over 1 position each to A2/B2?
  10. I have been having some issues getting the memory past 3000Mhz on the z490. Though to be honest I think its mostly out of my ignorance lol. Last time I did some overclocking from the sBIOS, was probably on the evga x58 micro
  11. Something about this series always has me coming back to it. 20 years later and I still think of it quite fondly. Recently started listening to some city-pop, its not my every day vibe but I enjoy it.
  12. Good Afternoon, How unfortunate! Wish you the best of luck, I cant even get these blokes not to double-triple post so often. Besides, they have been scorning AMD for a near decade for its lackluster presence in the laptop market. Pendulums only swing so far before returning, though in this case it seems you gave it a helping hand. Something about a fancy form over function connector that melts? Perhaps focus is do in that arena. Sincerely, Internet Bloke
  13. Haha, pretty much but that thread is good too. There is always a need to have a place to unwind and engage with others who enjoy similar hobbies.
  14. Which is Why I dont intend to remove them altogether, where those groups exist, they will just have to be honest with the thread title. For news, having a compilation thread for it makes no sense at all functionally. For Official threads its just some standardization for thread titles and its OP's to a small degree. Initially we retained most of the forum structure and just letting time tell where we should curate, admittedly quite a bit of time has passed since we launched. We plan to move the ball forward in November as work begins to slow down.
  15. Not splitting or restructuring anything at all. Just providing some standard for Official threads and news so that they can be search-able. Giant mess threads become glorified chat boxes and are useless to anyone that isnt already actively watching it. Alienware as a whole is slow outside of the rPGA related sections.
  16. I plan to institute some changes that will help alleviate that. Getting rid of compilation/mosh pit threads in certain areas will do wonders. I discovered that for one of our Official threads its top 3 search result when googling via the name of the system. Official NH55JNNQ started by @electrosoft So, some standardization in certain areas will be key to elevating the forums in terms of search results.
  17. I know I want one. @ 340 USD its becoming harder to pass up, sell my existing 2700x for 80 or so? Makes the purchase easier and I guess I could float myself on a 10850K platform lol
  18. Fiber is absolutely a game changer, problem is many people pay for fiber but only up to the junction box, not directly to their homes.
  19. Skyrocketing temperatures typically mean not enough contact pressure on the heatsink
  20. I believe this is for intranet, not internet.
  21. I have seen a number of things but of them, liquid metal, de-lid, bare die, BartX IHS, second fans, water blocks, Silicon Lottery Going to have to get a little creative :)
