  1. I love stealth games but wasn't interested in Alpha Protocol until recently. I bought it a few days ago when I heard it made it to GoG, looking forward to playing it when I get some free time!
  2. Three weeks later... Now customers from Batch 1 and 2 have received production units of the 16 laptop. Some valuable information about it is being revealed in the Framework community forums: Being an AMD Advantage laptop, the Framework Laptop 16 has a MUX and supports AMD Smart Access Graphics (AMD equivalent of NVIDIA's Advanced Optimus.) Despite this there's no BIOS option to control the MUX for a dGPU-only option. This is probably to avoid being able to both control the MUX and remove the GPU module. The BIOS doesn't have a lot of settings however, compared to for example a Lenovo Legion laptop (as seen in Jarrod's Tech video review) It supports S0 sleep, S3 sleep, and hibernate No confirmation thus far about being able to undervolt with either CPU option
  3. I made my pre-order for the Framework 16 laptop, currently on batch 16! I still have a few months to wait until my pre-order would ship. I'm going to wait and see how the production units pan out. I very much agree it's a version 1.0 product but I'm excited about it!
  4. It looks like the Framework laptop 16 is being sent to reviewers now. The first batch of models will ship by the end of the month (so will reviews come out as well), with all should be fulfilled by the end of June. I'm glad I procrastinated in my order BTW, because also last week Framework reported a data breach (to those affected) due to a phishing scam. Still going to get one but without the first Graphics Module, I'll keep waiting for one that can max out power usage of the computer.
  5. Although not available in a blog post just yet, Framework team did confirm the 16 laptop model has a MUX switch (in the display): https://community.frame.work/t/mux-switch/33854/5
  6. The AMD and Framework collab/partnership is awesome! The specs for the price, well... The Radeon RX 7700S appears to have a TDP of 100W, which is about 20W less than the 7600 XT flagship. Framework already published that the 16 can support up to 240W, with this config I don't think it will max out a 180W USB-C charger. I would assume a more powerful GPU is coming, in a year or so lol Also pre-ordering now means the 16 inch laptop will ship as early as Q4 2023 which is 4-6 months away... I know I said I would order one of these but I think I'll wait for now unless my laptop breaks.
  7. Battery and speaker details are out now! https://frame.work/blog/framework-laptop-16-deep-dive---battery-and-speakers It seems like there is going to be a single battery size (at launch at least), 4-cell for 85Wh, and it is an integrated connector instead of a cable connector.
  8. Interesting that the blog post mentioned they "ran out of space" but they're referring to the mainboard. I'm curious to see the battery information whether they're just going for a big battery, a small one, or even both (Framework 13 has 55 Wh and 61 Wh options.), and how it affects parts options.
  9. Recently Tom's Hardware posted VRAM mods of desktop graphics cards including a GeForce RTX 3060 and there is a YT video: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/modder-turns-3060-8gb-into-12gb
  10. @win32asmguy Thanks for sharing the benchmark results! Was undervolting available on the system or is it locked?
  11. I have no idea TBH because I never tried using H2OUVE/H2OEZE to unlock it but the tools might allow you to do it, I just know from my own experience of flashing a stock Clevo BIOS from the website over the Sager one, in a different model
  12. If you choose to update the BIOS with one of those files, the boot screen image will change to a default "Style Note" image, replacing whatever it was before
  13. Hearing about the latest Framework laptop and expansion bays and modules, makes me more convinced that the Framework laptop should be my next computer instead of a GeForce 40-series laptop or even a SFF desktop and that I really want the company to succeed in this. I be happy to be an early adopter for the 16-inch model and treat my laptop as some kind of investment. And open sourcing the EC is another big plus to me as that's the second company I heard do this (System76 is the first.)
  14. I don't have a Precision 7670/7770 but I posted about how the trick worked in the past. Yeah you're right, I installed the latest graphics drivers and the power limit no longer works for me either. I can only adjust core and memory clock offset now. Not that it mattered for me because the limit was always at 100% (80W) for me, but yeah you should stick with 528.xx driver version! EDIT: Just install version MSI Afterburner 4.6.5 Beta 4 and there's no difference here
  15. Thanks for the deets @Talon! Despite Jarrod's review, it still has some nice bells and whistles. I did not expect Lenovo to include an BIOS option to enable undervolting (but probably in Legion laptops only) and that the CPU can reach it's power limit (without undervolting, according to the 0V offsets in the screencap.)
  16. The Mech 17 GP2 offers PremaMod, I'm not sure if the Neo 17 will yet
  17. I do agree with Jarrod's points. I have seen his past videos where he praised the 2021 and 2022 Legion 5 and 7 laptops as among the best "overall" gaming laptops of the year. There are some downgrades, some are mere QOL and some more so than that. Understandably, this is for the 7i Pro laptop, it'll be interesting to see how other models fair when they come out. So I'll keep waiting for a model with a GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, or a model with an AMD CPU in it. And for any laptop this year I be curious to see if the CPU can be undervolted.
  18. I believe some brands offered control over GPU TDP for 30 series laptops too, I'm mainly thinking of the XMG Neo 15 with the Oasis cooling system. Anyway currently it is possible to change the power limit with recent NVIDIA drivers (including the latest 528.49 drivers as of now) on 20 and 30 series mobile GPUs in MSI Afterburner/EVGA Precision, hopefully this remains the case for 40 series GPUs as well.
  19. Be sure to check the spec sheet at the bottom of the page: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Legion/Legion_Pro_7_16IRX8H/Legion_Pro_7_16IRX8H_Spec.pdf There's a note or disclaimer that "The max memory is based on the test results with current Lenovo® memory offerings. The system may support more memory as the technology develops." Otherwise the max memory says "Up to 32GB DDR5-5600 offering". I like to believe this is per module, not sure why those two words aren't there but I'm sure Jarrod can clarify that. Also some other interesting features revealed by the spec sheet: Display has G-SYNC (and AMD FreeSync) and Advanced Optimus Up to 140W USB power delivery charging 80W or 99.9W battery with "Super Rapid Charge"
  20. I decided to check Sager and Xotic pc websites, and Xotic PC has the X370 listed for pre-order as well ("Pre-order- ETA: Mid to Late March as Per Manufacturer.") 4090 listing (up to 150W + 25W) 4080 listing (up to 150W + 25W)
  21. Looks like from the second spec sheet in the first post, the laptop could feature the new AMD Zen 4 HX "Dragon Range" CPUs. I'm curious to see how it compares to the Intel HX CPUs when given the same GPU, especially with their huge L3 cache. Unfortunately it looks like AMD's mobile graphics offering maxes out at the RX 7600M XT which goes up to only 120W so we'll see next month
  22. I was also on Windows 8.1 for a long time from 2012 when 8 was released to early 2019 when I upgraded to my current laptop. So I skipped Windows 10 for 3 years, and finally started using it on version 1809. I wasn't a fan of the Windows start screen but it really didn't bother me because it was possible for Windows to start at the desktop instead of the start screen and the new WinX menu which I used a lot because it provided some handy hotkeys. The "superbar" was the only thing transparent in Windows Explorer, all the window borders are now a solid color which was part of Microsoft's new Metro UI. I never used the Microsoft Store, just stuck with typical Win32 desktop apps. So to me it was an slightly improved version of Windows 7, with lots of UI bloat which was possible (but probably not easy) to avoid.
  23. Not the person you pinged but his post from NBR is in the NBArchive, here's the juicy info (and yes I have the BIOS unlocker if anyone needs it)
  24. Yep that is, I checked my email and saw I paid $21.55 USD and $4.73 for shipping (Yun-Express(Standard)) which took 2 weeks for me
  25. win32asmguy first reported this in the dell Precision forum, but now the PTM7950 is available in ModDIY. According to their website they ship from Hong Kong but to all countries. I don't know if that's better as if it will ship to your country, and the 80mmx80mm price is currently $48.58 USD, twice as much as I bought from ebuy7 7 months ago
