Lightning is bad, sorry about that. Laptop did POST after removal and it worked great, just without sound. One of the jacks doesn't have the plastic casing around it. It still works, it's just not the most secure.
-
That's something I couldn't answer but intuition says normal drivers will work. The P5200 is Pascal so I can't see why normal drivers won't work.
-
Should be. I've seen listings for heatsinks designed around the MSI P5200 for the TM, so I would believe any P5200 would work.
-
I'll take mine out today and see if everything still works alright.

No, my DM is almost unusable (no keyboard, damaged ribbon connectors etc). I'm only keeping it around for once I get to fabricating a better cooler for the 1070. I have no plans to use it as an actual laptop as I have my TM and my G14. If the sound board only strips away the speakers and use of headphone jacks, that's good with me as long as the laptop still turns on.

While I'd love to take you up on the offer, the goal is to get the build under 500 USD so that he can sell his GF65 and minimize the cost of anything else that the GF65 might not cover. The 12100 is about 90 USD right now and a used RX 6600 is about 160 USD right now. -
If you're willing to pay for shipping, I could rip the board from my DM. I would assume the laptop will still function if there's no board.

On the topic of new builds, does anyone have any unused D4 sticks? I'm going to help my brother build a budget SFF desktop to replace his terrible MSI GF65 that despite all measures taken, won't stop boiling... My goal is a cheap B660 board that doesn't entirely suck, an i3 12100f, some decent D4 sticks, my EVGA 750w PSU that I don't use very often and a used RX 6600 all inside of a SAMA IM01. While the i3 might be a bit weaker than his 10750h on paper, that thing is always at 100C and throttling to all hell. I think any high clocking quadcore would smother it in benchmarks and perform a bit better in games. -
Currently fixing up an old CF-31 and I need a new LCD cable for it. The only one I can find is one for $100 on the Bob Johnson website and that is WAY too much.

Heard a friend talk about a game called Neon White. I looked into it and ended up purchasing it. Super fun game, I don't like the story at all though, it's quite gaudy. The best way to describe the gameplay is that it has a similar feel to a Surf map on Counter Strike. You're essentially running/floating around and must have precise movement and quick thinking in order to have a competitive compeletion time for the levels. The music is also pretty good too. All of it has been created by Machine Girl and fits with the gameplay extremely well. If you look at the OST's comments on Youtube, you'll see a lot of, "I'm glad the new Machine Girl album came with game too!"

clevo p870tm/tm1-g Official Clevo P870TM-G Thread
Tenoroon replied to ViktorV's topic in Sager & Clevo
Alright, everything is making more sense now. The 2080 Super has problems working in the P870TM not because of any power problems, but because the 2080 Super is too powerful lol. The specific MOSFETs used on the Turing MXM cards get a bit toastier than the MOSFETs used on the Pascal cards. VIktorV is correct about the laptop doing an emergency shutdown because of the MOSFETs overheating. I was told the easier solution to this problem that doesn't require me to replace the MOSFETs is by adding a copper shim onto the heatsink where the MOSFETs are located when the card is screwed down. This is to decrease the temperatures of the MOSFETs allowing them to run more efficiently and not overheat and shut down the laptop. -

I've been needing to get rid of my Clevo 1080 as I plan on sending in the 2080S here soon. Would you be able to use a DM2/3 heatsink in your frankenstein or would you need to do some more modding? (besides finding 12v for the 8 pin power connector) -
From what I remember, the P7xx and P8xx series don't have wiring or any power input to the iGPU, rendering it impossible to use the iGPU.

I know this may not be the best place to ask, but I was reading the old P870TM-R thread on the archive, and heard that the vapor chamber needs to be modified to get the Turing cards to fit right. What exactly needs to be cut in order to get them to fit? I have a feeling that some of the VRAM plate needs to be dremelled away, but I might be entirely wrong. Does anyone have any pictures saved anywhere or remember the rough area that I would need to cut? -
Out of all of the high-school bands in Middle TN, my band was chosen to be involved in a high"er"-production value film that will be coming out later this year. The movie is set to take place somewhere up north, but some of the filming took place in Clarksville. I've always been a bit interested in the technical aspect of films, so I was one of the first to sign up as only about a quarter of us could go. I was able to get out of school these past three days, but I had to wake up at around 4:00 every morning as the drive to Clarksville is about 90 minutes without Nashville traffic. The filming was very intense and a lot of last minute decisions and changes were made but it was very, very fun. (I also learned that having to stand out in 70 degree weather in uniform for hours is one of the most uncomfortable feelings ever lol). Being able to see how much effort that hundreds of different people have to put in to get one "background" scene perfect was a very humbling experience and I look forward to watching the film once it comes out. Fingers crossed I get to see my buddies and myself!

I've got a spare 860m I can send you to test with if you want to eradicate the potential of it being a GPU problem. My guess is that it is due to the Ranger's poor MOSFET cooling and the 980m's known unreliability. If you're able to push the crap out of the CPU, it may be the GPU that's starting to defecate bricks... I'm surprised my Ranger hasn't killed itself yet. While I don't know its entire history, I know whoever owned it before me didn't really take care of it, and with me doing all of my goofy mods and such, it hasn't had an easy life. The amount of times I've bricked the BIOS or have needed to reset the NVRAM is too many to count, and with all of the OCing I've done essentially torturing the CPU VRM, I'm surprised it still lives... -
I doubt it would be a Patreon as they take 5-10% of whatever you make. It would probably be done through something else.

My two cents on the 4070: The VRAM bus nerf is really weird to me; I'm not used to seeing a 70 class card with a 192 bit bus. While the topic is controversial, 12gb to me is fine for it, but it SHOULDN'T be advertised as a 4k card. 1440p is the most I'd say it could comfortably do. The TDP seems fine, but the lackluster generational performance uplift is a bit displeasing. What sucks even more is that some cheaper AIB models may not perform as well when clocked higher due to being limited to a single 8 pin + the remainder PCIe power (if said revisions even use the full 75w from the PCIe lane.) Speaking of clocks, it seems like Nvidia is locking down this card for a reason (at least their particular PCB) and I can see why. God forbid 250w+ is ran through that poor VRM... The card would explode if that were to happen! You're telling me that my little MXM 2080 has a similar if not better VRM than a desktop GPU with the same TDP? That's nuts to me! The only thing to defend Nvidia's 4070 PCB is that more of that 200w of power goes to the memory due to G6X being more hungry than standard G6 (like on my 2080) Though, if Nvidia can make the PCB that small, I'd like to see some small single fan 4070's, those would be great for some more space limited ITX cases, and may allow for some older ITX builds to get a reasonable upgrade that won't require them to buy a new case. Overall, this thing is a goofy card. If it were priced $80-100 lower, and could actually be bought for that price, it would make quite a good card, but knowing how Nvidia is, and the limited time they have on their dumb temporary rebate program, getting one of these for $600 flat will be hard if not impossible. While it provides more value than a 4070ti or 4080, I think this thing will be the last bit of positivity for Lovelace; my hopes for the 4060ti and below are not high, and I dread seeing how bad they could potentially be value wise. -

Avoid LM shunt mod, it can eat the solder really quickly, and if those shunt resistors are gone, it's really easy to kill the card. -

So are you saying that the VRAM and core are designed to take up to 200w of power, but because some of that is lost as the power goes through the VRM that the P870 will try to cope and force too much power through the VRMs which gets them hot? -
The "song" starts rapidly cutting in and out at the end. There's a hi-hat going so each time the sound phases back in it can be quite loud. I personally don't listen to music at a high volume as my ears aren't very good, but when I first listened to the track I was not expecting how loud each hit would be.

Did your 1080 die or are you trying to further reinforce the power delivery of your card?

I'm a bit guilty of most of the things he says, the only thing being when others ask, "why is your hardware so old dude, isn't it slow?" My response is usually, it works pretty good for me, so it doesn't really matter lol. My stance on just about everything is that things should be held to high standards. Want to sell a product and beat the competition? It better be the best possible thing. In general, I feel too many companies choose the cheap route of brute forcing their sub-par product to victory, which will never sit well with me. While most people don't care or won't be bothered by small things that are a bit goofy or could be better, I think it should be in everybody's best interest to nitpick and desire the best in order to see progression sooner rather than later. I still don't really care for Jufes, but I understand where he is coming from on most of the points he makes. Though, I think this clip is really funny. I almost fell out of my chair in laughter as he's the first one I've heard to point out the less than ideal conditions HUB (and many other reviewers) put the products they test through... https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxKpCy684ufbwR4t0zzz6B0aj5Zy-AMXuw
