The P870TM finally arrived, and I spent all day so far moving everything over, but wow. This thing is just insane, GPU temps don't get over 70C with the vapor chamber, CPU runs nice and cool, 3 M.2 slots is nice, and the Prema BIOS is just phenomenal. Though, I do have a few questions. The backlights are stuck to being this gawdy looking yellow color, but the keyboard refuses to change the LED color or even dim them, they're just stuck yellow. I thought the keyboard was broken so I swapped my known working P775 keyboard in it and it is still that same yellow color. Is it possible for me to change the color in the BIOS or via software? I also want to know if I can dim the back lid LED's as those are stuck on a white color. With a bit of trial and error, I managed to get my 870 EVO into the SATA slot, but it was really difficult as the SATA out on the SSD didn't want to line up with the connectors on the motherboard. I have a slightly thicker 2tb HDD that I tried to wiggle in there, but I can't seem to get it in. Is there an intended way to get the SATA drives in? It seems very difficult to get them to slot in just right. In the BIOS, there is a fan control option, but its to enable or disable fan control. I've looked in the BIOS but can't find any options for fan control. Are you able to control the fans in the BIOS? If not its no big deal, but I'd like to set some custom tables so I don't have to run ClevoFanControl every time I boot into Windows. Last thing, but I've noticed these interlaced looking lines on the 1440p display the laptop comes with, they aren't noticeable from a far, but they make the screen look super washed out. I feel like I read somewhere in the past that these 1440p screens were known to have this "issue" but I'm mostly just curious if I can fix it at all. -

So many happy birthdays, I gotta do one too! Happy Birthday @Mr. Fox! I appreciate your assistance with the past 3 laptops I have owned. While I haven't been with this community too long, I believe your knowledge and experiences have helped many people throughout the years, and I can't wait to see what the future holds. I am also looking forward to learning from you a bit more in the near future. I finally pulled the trigger on that P870TM, and my goal is to make it as good as possible. I feel quite obligated to do so; it's the last good laptop ever created lol, so I must end with a bang as my days of primarily needing a laptop are limited. It's been quite a ride starting with the Alienware and climbing my way up, even if I've been a few years too late for every laptop I have bought since. I'm glad to know everything I do and feel honored to know that a large chunk of that knowledge has come from you, so thank you man! It really does mean a lot. -

Knowing how small the 4090's PCB is, I think it can be incorporated into a fat brick of a laptop with maybe some custom water cooling... or just a bunch of copper 😉 And in general, if a few guys from China can create a modern motherboard for the Thinkpad X201, I think it's possible to create one for any Clevo machine. -

Yeah, the one I'm looking into was originally shipped with a 1080 and 8700k. I hope I don't have to do any vBIOS flashing to get my 1080 working in it, but all should be well. The seller noted the laptop has the newest version of the Prema BIOS on it which is nice. Also, do you or anyone else know if that 4th fan was ever found for the TM? I remember reading the P870TM Owner's Lounges and seeing Meaker say the 4th fan wasn't really needed, but I feel like I've read somewhere that someone found a fan that would fit on top of the CPU heatsink and that it was quite effective. -

I managed to find a a guy selling a barebones P870TM and I plan on getting it as I dislike the cooling on the 1080 in the P775 and have some extra money re-cooperated from selling some old devices and fixing some stuff up. I'm really considering pulling the trigger, but my only question is if the Prema BIOS for these machines supports 9th gen CPUs. This one luckily has a Prema BIOS and I'm just curious if it can do that as it would be an added benefit. -

His old reviews were alright, but have been noticeably lacking in quality ever since Covid. He also started to boom then and started taking more sponsored BS. Great guy, lot's of potential, but too surface level nowadays.

Nice, I see you are using an old Acer Aspire. Did you buy it recently or have you had it? I've been wanting to OC some old Intel mobile CPU's to score some more points for the team on the Bot, but I can't find any obscure desktop form factor boards that seem reliable. I still have my weird HM55 board, but it's trash and can't do much. I might get an old M17X or something and rig a custom cooling system for it to clock some chips pretty damn high; the only problem is finding a reasonably priced M17X lol. -

For a while I've had the idea of setting up an Unreal Tournament server for some friends and I, but they don't seem all too interested because the game is, "too old." I'd be really interested in the forum hosting servers for some classic titles (possibly including the OG UT... 😉); I think it'd be great for this community. -
This... Though, my area is given these cheap Dell latitudes. Better than Chromebooks, but I hate getting slips for when I use my G14 over the POS Latitudes they give us...

Good Evening everyone! A few days ago, I decided to purchase a used PSP 1000 to tinker around with and to use for some retro emulation on the go. I've been reading quite a bit into all of the homebrew and hardware mods available to these wonderful devices, and my god is there a lot of potential with these things. I plan on using this thread to round up all of the mods I'd like to do in addition to also including step by step "mini-guides" for each mod I do. I've noticed while there is quite a bit of information floating around out there for mods regarding the PSP, they seem to be scattered across the internet. So, my goal is to use this thread as a "hub" of sorts for all of that information, making it easier for myself, and others who may want to reinvigorate this nearly 20 year old beast. My PSP: A few days ago, I pulled the trigger on a Japanese PSP 1000. It came with the console itself and the charger. I chose the PSP 1000 model because it was a bit cheaper than the other revisions and I prefer it over the others. Here's a picture of it, it's in pretty good condition with a few small scratches on the backside. It also has an original battery which will be nice down the road. The only downside is that it's on version 3.80, and I need to find a way to get it connected to the internet in order to update to version 6.61 so I can homebrew it. Which PSP Should I Get: There's 5 versions of the PSP that have been released. The PSP 1000, 2000, 3000, PSP Go, and the PSP Street. A TL;DR version of the differences is that the PSP 1000 or 3000 are the two that are worth looking into. The PSP 1000 has a bit less RAM and a "bad" screen in comparison to the newer revisions but has the biggest battery and best build quality of them all. The PSP 3000 has more RAM than the 1000, a better screen, and is lighter than the 1000 but is known for it's worse build quality and smaller battery when compared the 1000. The Go is harder to find and more expensive, but can fit in your pocket, and doesn't have a UMD drive slot. The 2000 is a stop gap between the 1000 and 3000 and only really makes sense to get if it is cheaper than the 1000 or 3000 The PSP Street was only sold in Europe and is mostly a collectors item, but it was build poorly and paper light. Note: Most of the PSP's found on Ebay are from Japan. In Japan, they have the O and X button swapped. If this is a big deal, you can either look for a non-Japanese one or I believe it's possible to swap them back via Homebrew. More in-depth information can be found from this useful guide. Why I went with the 1000: The 1000 was a bit cheaper than the 3000 models at the time and makes more sense in my opinion. I plan on replacing the screen and the bigger battery is nice. I also appreciate the better build quality. To me, the 1000 makes the most sense if you're willing to modify it and replace the screen but if you want a PSP just to use for playing UMD games and potentially Homebrew, then I think the 3000 is the better option. Why didn't you get a Vita? The Vita is objectively a better console. It has newer games, more emulation support, and is not as old as the PSP. However, they tend to be a bit more pricey and don't really have many hardware mods. If you are considering purchasing one of these portables solely for emulation and playing games, then the Vita is the better device, but if you want a cheaper more hands-on portable, then I think the PSP is the way to go. Tenoroon's Mod List: Here's a list of all of the modifications, tweaks, and general maintenance I plan on doing to this device: Connecting the PSP to the internet via a hotspot that supports the WEP protocol. Updating the device to firmware version 6.61 Purchasing a Memory Stick Pro Duo with a 64gb MicroSD card to store games and other programs. Install the Custom Infinity 2.0 Firmware for Homebrew and other tweaks. Upgrade the screen to a better IPS screen with less ghosting. Replace the battery in the pack with a bigger one. Tear down the device to clean it out. I am also interested in potentially shell-swapping this thing later down the road and potentially replacing the UMD drive slot with another bigger battery. This thread might act like a giant guide, which I'm fine with, but I encourage discussion about this device as I think it's really interesting and can be a great entry point into hardware modding. Anyways, Thanks for reading!

I saw this earlier today too. Why did they make the cooling setup WORSE than last year?! People might argue that last year's cooling was worse because it had to tame both the CPU and GPU, but it's not really a problem as the pipes are being cooled by both the internal fans AND the water. I hope to see some detailed comparisons of the cooling abilities of this year's model and last years. Also, why couldn't they run the pipe for the GPU VRM's over the PCH? I know its not that big of a deal, but in laptops where most of the airflow is directed to the heatsink, it would be a bit better to get the PCH while you're at it.

I found this game that is an homage to the original Wipeout series. It's called BallisticNG, and tries to emulate the earlier Wipeout games in the series while adding a modern touch to just about everything. The game by itself is phenomenal, but I personally love the amount of mods and custom configurability this game has. I personally lean towards playing the game with vanilla mechanics, but adding the ships and music from Wipeout, so here are a few screenshots of me racing for team Piranha:

I'm just confused about how many CPU's Intel has for their mobile line, it's ridiculous!!! You're telling me there's going to be a justifiable reason for the Core i5 13500HX to exist?!? I doubt that 3 or more laptop models will ever that SKU! I get that having more is good, but this is just too much, go back to the days where you had an i5 or two, a few i7's and a single core i9 for high performance, and then the U series for Ultrabooks, Jesus... -

I though it didn't have an MSRP at first, and that AIB's just generally decided that it was 2k? I guess I'm wrong though. -
It is most likely you are experiencing one of these two problems: 1: Those standard MXM 3.0 1070's are iffy, and can seem to work flawlessly in one motherboard, but refuse to work in others. Keep in mind, they are basically "Frankenstein" GPU's, they really shouldn't work. 2: I too have a GT72VR motherboard (it originally came with a 6700hq and 1070). This motherboard does NOT POST with a non MSI branded GPU in it. I tried a Dell 860M and it refused to work, but as soon as I put in my 1070, it works great. My assumption would be that despite buying what is seemingly the same revision motherboard, it's slightly different (i.e. the 5700hq instead of the 4720hq) and doesn't allow non MSI branded GPU's to work. It would make sense to believe that MSI implemented some feature on their newer GT72 boards that will only allow MSI branded MXM GPU's to work and that the GT72's with 4th gen CPU's were the last generation of motherboards that don't have this annoying feature. This would explain why your original 970m still works. Sadly, the problem is probably from your 1070. If you can, try to return it, and if you can't, you could probably sell it on here or on Ebay with the context that it should work, but can't be verified.

Tenoroon's Guide to Fully Unlocking Haswell's Turbo bins
Tenoroon replied to Tenoroon's topic in General Software
I'll be honest, I forgot I made this post lol. I updated it with information that only Haswell CPU's with turbo bins support this bug. Back in October I was messing around in a standalone version of MC Extractor and learned that you may be able inject supported microcodes really easily regardless of what BIOS vendor your device had. I don't remember too much about it as it was a while ago during a slow day at school, but I'll look into it again when I have the chance. If MCE does what I think it can, then my guide will basically be outdated as the process will be much easier and faster, but again, I still need to look into it. I will edit the original post whenever I learn more about it. Also, just as a bit of reference for what this microcode bug allows you to do, here's a CPU-Z validation of my 4710mq running a tad over 5ghz on a single core... -
My buddy has this 14.5HP lawnmower that he pully swapped and did some other mods to in order to make it go about 17-18mph (its like a go kart that can tow.) It can't cut grass, but it can go fast 😉 We took it out to a nearby lake when it was really muddy to see how well it would fare and to have some fun, and it did surprisingly well. Right after that picture was taken is when it got really stuck and two other friends and I had to put it in 2nd gear and pull it as hard as we could to get it unstuck lol. We rode it around for hours and 2 of us sat in a little gardening cart my buddy attached to the back of the mower and it was the most fun my friends and I had in a while. Tuesday was a fun day 🙂 We also got some great pictures:

I like the P870 😉 I wish I could upgrade mine, but its only the DM-G, so native pascal support is tough. I could buy one of those barebones ones, but I'm saving for a desktop and it would be counterproductive anyways 😞 I do plan on getting my hands on a P750xx once I build a desktop as I've been using Mouse without borders with my G14 and P775 to move files between them and such. I think a P750 would be a great secondary "desktop" that I can use as my desktop "on the go" Also, Merry Christmas boys! I wish you all a wonderful day and a fantastic time with the family! -
Wonderful mix. I usually don't care for more modern DnB but this mix is quite impressive. It gets really good at about 13-14 minutes in.

Merry Christmas brother, it's a pleasure having your guidance easily available 😉 Also boys, I did it... This took way too long, but we did it. Voltage is at 1.596 volts; the voltage readings are half of the true values with this weird microcode. -

I got slightly past 4.8ghz, but the system kept becoming unstable. I could only max out at about 1.35 volts, anything higher and nothing would change. I'm currently using TS to adjust voltage, but TS can be a bit finnicky. Is there a way to set a voltage in the BIOS? I have the voltages set to static as I know that's better, but there's nothing that explicitly says Core or VCore voltage options in the BIOS. There's just those weird ratio override settings that I don't mess with and don't know how they work lol. @Papusan @Mr. Fox You two seem like the guys to ask, you have any ideas? I accidentally bricked my BIOS, so I'm going to have to do the NVRAM reset, no big deal since everything is open and easy to access, but it made me have to come inside which was annoying lol. I'll fix it here in a bit and then go back out later tonight. I just need to find a better way to set a static voltage, I think that's why I can't push through the 5ghz barrier. Though, for reference, I hit my previous record of 4.788ghz at 1.492v at room temp. This time I hit about 4.810ghz at 1.348v out in the cold with an ambient temp at 5F... -

It got really, really cold here in middle TN last night, and its about 0F outside right now. I'm going to take the Alienware outside for a spin and see if I can push 5ghz on the 4710mq 🙂
