  1. New has to be better. Huuh? change only for the change often come with downsides (Engineers doesn't always see their own stupidity).

And Nvidia will offer a huge performance uplift for their 4060. Whats the point upgrade from 3060 to 4060 if this will be the end results? And why buy 4060 over a discounted 3060 if that happen? People want new so you may be able to find a cheaper used 3060 forwards. RT is pretty useless for this type cards, so...

Editorial: Nvidia’s latest flagship RTX 4080 and AMD’s RX 7900 XT are inflated more than inflation itself — and that’s not normal.

    image.png.144e6b41ccea286b8e7a0d45403decc0.png

We’re in the middle of a dramatic economic downturn, if not an outright recession — we’ve had 15–16 percent inflation since 2020, when Nvidia and AMD released their last flagship GPUs. But the RTX 4080’s starting price is 71.5 percent more expensive than the RTX 3080. AMD’s 7900 XT is 38.5 percent more expensive than the 6800 XT.

When my colleague Tom reviewed Nvidia’s new graphics card, he did find it 50 percent faster than the previous generation, but such gains aren’t unheard of gen-on-gen without a corresponding jump in price. And I’d argue that performance is almost beside the point. Both Nvidia and AMD regularly release uber-enthusiast class GPUs like the 3090 Ti or Titan with excess memory and / or exotic cooling for those who’ll pay for every scrap of performance, but the 4080 and 7900 XT aren’t those: they’re the “normal” flagships, and both companies are now targeting that kind of GPU at a more exclusive audience.

And so far no one is blaming the customer yet, but they are replacing most if not all the cards that have burn marks.. So an inconvenience, Yes but still standing by the user error customer.

Hell, I have to make sure I don't become that guy my damn self! 😂

If nvidia have denied replacements for burned cards now... It would be bad for the reputation. But what will happen a year or two forwards?

    HaHa😃 The first I would look after when I buy a used 4090 card... The 16-Pin '12VHPWR' connector😄

The added fancy features as Ray-tracing save nvidia's day.

Nvidia has now launched the RTX 4090 and the 4080 Ada Lovelace SKUs. Meanwhile, AMD is set to launch its own RX 7900 series GPUs in less than a month. In this article, we estimate how they stack up...

As one would expect, AMD's second-gen ray tracing performance is still nowhere close to Nvidia's third-generation capabilities on the RTX 40-series. In fact, in one instance out of the three, even the RTX 3090 Ti manages to trounce the RX 7900 XTX by a healthy margin.

Though, there is a lot to like about the upcoming AMD cards too. The RX 7900 XTX seems to be comfortably outperforming the RTX 4080 in rasterization while being $200 cheaper. In one case, even the 7900 XT manages to beat the 4080. However, bear in mind that these are first-party numbers we are using here for AMD, and it's just three games that may well be cherry-picked.

Now its up to the buyers to choose between "nice to have features" or lower cost.

not sure this is an indicator yet for the 4080s "popularity", rumor mill so far says that the 4080 stock on launch was waaaaaaaay below 4090 levels and sometimes non-existent in some shops. so with just a handful of cards around ull always find some idiots grabbing those to be "first" 😄 also cuz its "new, shiny" and, of course, always better (= new!) 😛

Food for thoughts... Nvidia and it's AIC partners could just deny replace the cards and put all the blame on user errors. Just say it is nothing wrong with adapers or the power connector. This will put Nvidia in better lights regarding saving own reputation. Just put all the blame on the consumers. The comming  press release about the smoke and fire can easly be watered down to nothing like this: A very small amount cards failing is to expect vs how many cards produced and sold. RTX 4090 Owner Hits Nvidia With Lawsuit Over Melting 16-pin Connector

One consumer filed a lawsuit against Nvidia regarding the melting 16-pin connectors on GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards.

The lawsuit states that Genova is suing Nvidia for unjust enrichment, breach of warranty, fraud, and violations of New York’s General Business Law.

The lawsuit, which was filed in a California federal court on Nov. 11, alleges that Nvidia "marketed and sold the RTX 4090 with a defective and dangerous power cable plug and socket, which has rendered consumers' cards inoperable and poses a serious electrical and fire hazard for each and every purchaser." Genova seemingly brings the class action lawsuit on behalf of himself and all purchasers of the GeForce RTX 4090, one of the best graphics cards on the market.

And 4090 Ti would come at +3400$ or +3700$ for the better custom cards. Even Nvidia can see own stupidity. Better milk the average gaming Joe. He buy it anyway.

Sorry if this is obvious, but you can prevent Windows update from updating drivers by a simple Local Policy setting.

Speaking of Green Goblin/Ngreedia - how long has it been since the 4090 release? I haven't seen 4090 FE availability in Nvidia store even once. Yet eBay is chock-full of FEs from scalpers. The fact that Nvidia has taken no steps to prevent this (e.g. the subscription service EVGA offered during the mining shortage) puts them in the same category as those scalper lowlifes.

Hi. I'm fully aware of all this. I usually close all doors and only upgrade needed Windows patches as standalone and with network closed. As well disable everything that can trigger automatic updates of driver, software and firmware. But I wanted to see if Win update had a driver I couldn't find. As you can see from my search... This was expected from Microsoft🤮 And as usually you never find what you want from Redmond retards. But they is able to continue offer an bios upgrade that Asus should have removed from Microsoft servers already in August. But this is still offered machines who already have newer firmware. Can't beat stupidity.  So both Asus and Microsoft is a disgusting and a awful partnership.

So it has begun. Nvidia's 4080 has a TGP of 320 but Nvidia has limited it. Apparently, "recently" Nvidia changed how their cards boost. Before, Nvidia's cards would try to adhere to their TDP while under load and even try to go above it, with performance to go with it. Now the TGP is the LIMIT, so with the 4080, it will try to avoid going near the 320W TGP cap

I told you guys that Nvidia was going to nerf the power draw of the cards. They haven't figured a way to do it with the 4090 (at least the batches they have already sold) but watch the next batches that make it to the public have different performance deltas compared to the ones people have. They may sneak a vBIOS update in their drivers, you never know.

This is maybe a good thing for Nvidia. Low TGP and power consumption may help nvidia to avoid adapter bend-gate 2😁

08:25 - Embarrassingly Bad Value vs. RTX 3080

Don’t be a sucker and pay $1,200 for this card. Don’t be a sucker and buy a 2-year-old last-gen model at full price. Either buy an RTX 4090 if you want no-compromises gaming and creation performance—or wait to see what Radeon offers this time around, or wait for Nvidia’s prices to potentially fall after it sells through that mountain of older RTX 30-series cards. Because a 71 percent (71 percent) price increase for a 30 percent performance increase ain’t it. That’s harsh, but it’s true.

Again, Nvidia is asking for 71 percent more cash for that mere 30 percent uplift—$699 versus $1,199. At the same $1,199 price, the RTX 4080 is only faster than the RTX 3080 Ti by single-digit percentages. That’s absolutely insane and aggressively insulting to PC gamers. You should stay far, far away from this graphics card at this price.

    More awful tech news:

And Intel is lured to hire Dell's VP for Dell Alienware gaming division....

Dell spew out their useless Alienware VP's into main hardware manufacturers. First F. Azor over to AMD, now Vivian into Intel. But this doesn't make Alienware any better. A new DELL AW VP will drag the Alienware brand further down in the dirt. Because Alienware is Dell. Not the opposite. Yet another reason to avoid Dell graphics. Nothing awesome will come from DELL. What a failure done from Patrick P. Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel.

They have a license sub for their software after the free one year after purchase of your 100$ gear. Yep, 1 year sub and 10$ = 12.5$ with the nice Norwegian tax on top here. Imagine if Intel have done the same... Sell you an 600$ cpu and you have to pay 12.5$ every year to be able to use etc XTU or other software for your processor. Would people be happy paying Nvidia extra $$$ for their nvidia Experience software every year after purchase of their graphics cards? But no problem... The flow meter screen show what any bloatware can measure. And it’s nice you can turn of bling bling lights on top of the flow meter. Also check the water quality etc. Most can be done from there. Bro Fox. I like the EK-AF Angled 2×45° adapters. I prefer these over the short sharp right angled 90° fittings. If you have the needed place in or outside your chassis then the slightly bigger arch can reduce the unwanted sharp 90° angle to help reduce water flow restrictions. Maybe not the big gain with one or two but if you need a few of those 90° adapters for your custom cooling then I expect it will help on the water flow.

Hehe. For me it looks more light bluish White 🙂 Maybe the picture lure me. And yep, Asus should made an option so you could swap to white Q-code LED. Let it be red default but people should be able to change color.

Edit. Checked also the pict on my phone. For me it look as llight blue White color. Also the clear tubing may lure me. I prefer all black and some white lights. Quite sure the tubing is to blame for the weird color (at least it looks weird for me).

Yep the reflection from everything in the chassis may change somewhat the colors. Could also be the shadows. But when I see directly in the fans (part of it in the middle, not senter) I can see more or less white lights.

Probably, the ligts and shadows from the photo shoot that melt into together. Even the water in the tubes have same bluish colors.  Dificult for me to explain it better.

Yes, it would be great. The problem is I do not think anyone makes a bare die frame yet. I don't want to leave the CPU loose in the socket because the risk of bending pins is too great. And, I don't want to strap is down with Kapton tape. Even though that will work, I don't like the ghetto duct tape, bailing wire and chewing gum can fix anything approach. Based on how well the 10th Gen Supercool Computer bare die block worked I was excited about using it for 12th Gen, but the 12th Gen version of it sucked. Probably tried to repeat the design for 10th Gen on 12th Gen and it didn't cool the CPU worth a darn.

OK, a bit of an update. I am learning to how overclock DDR5 on an ASUS mobo and that's not as user-friendly as MSI and EVGA. Work in process on that.

I stayed up all night (haven't been to sleep since Thursday night (LOL) modifying everything. Almost there. I love how much room there is in th 5000D now. It should be large enough to have this much space loaded with dual 360 or dual 480 radiators in push/pull  with two pumps and reservoirs. Small cases suck real bad. I know some people view the 5000D as "big" and they are entitled to have an opinion, but it is a  mid-tower and they are never big enough. Nice case, but small enough to make it suck.

I need to replace the tubing on the return line with something more rigid. The Corsair soft tubing is super soft, which is nice to work with. But, it is too soft and collapses on the return line with both D5 pumps running. I guess the flow is high enough that the tubing is too soft to hold its shape. Also, the way I was planning to power the external radiator pumps and fans didn't work. It couldn't handle the power draw needs. So, I am going to have to use a separate PSU like I did on the MO-RA setup. I ordered a cheap one on Amazon for that and should have it tomorrow. For now, I ran a spare SATA and molex cable from the internal PSU outside of the case for the pumps and fans and have the side panel off to accommodate that until I have the cheap PSU from Amazon.

Here are some photos. Once I have everything the way I wanted I will post more. The radiator will be behind the case instead of in front of it like it is at the moment.

The 1080 Nova is a nice setup for the price. It lacks the quality of the MO-RA, but based on price I cannot complain. The housing is both good and bad. I am glad I bought it, but it's kind of rough around the edges (literally). The scratches showing on the desktop were cause by those sharp edges. You get what you pay for in terms of finish quality.

Beautiful setup bro Fox. But all white lights would be better 🙂

The beauty is put in the details (picture). Will Nvidia try a new redesigned power adapter/connector before they change the vBios? Or will they just jump directly on the firmware?

Unfortunately, the update doesn't contain many details. In discussions with Nvidia PR, we were told: “We continue to investigate the reports, however, we don’t have further details to share yet. NVIDIA and our partners are committed to supporting our customers and ensuring an expedited RMA process for them”.

The same people have surprised looks on their faces when the turdbook they bought, that is as cute as a bug on a rug, overheats, thermal throttles, has lackluster performance, is difficult to service, dies prematurely and costs a fortune to repair because they have to buy a mobo, CPU and GPU even though only one of them is dead.

And worse it will be bro Fox. Much worse.

Yep, Mobile processors follow same paths as for laptop graphics cards. Worse performance and specs vs desktop counter parts. Worse in all ways. Laptop jockey's will lose more and more performance for each new gen HW.

Mobile Raptor Lake CPUs may not offer substantial multi-threaded improvements over Alder Lake.

So it seems that, for better or worse, Intel decided these mobile chips did not need more E-cores or P-cores.

And you can see the same pathern here as well. Even worse beacuse mobile processors won't get same treatment. Laptop jockey's will also lose performance vs the same mobile Cpu soldered in this cute mini Nuc box from Intel...

They’re not round tube design like the Mora3’s. But hey! It’s $130 dollars lol. I have (2) of them, and I’ll eventually get around to running both. But the truth is one alone has been very sufficient. Right now I’m running my 13900KF at 5.8/4.5/4.8 with 1.285V in the bios, with 25.5c water I reach a maximum of 80C on my CPU during R23. Can’t beat that.

Yep, they are cheaper. But you get a  lot for the money. I often buy used parts to cut costs. More expensive doesn't always provide a huge gain. Some want the most expensive parts even if the gain is minimal.

lulz, just another strat right out of Intel's playbook my man. tell me, how many times have Intel pulled exactly the same thing? now for the first time in ages Intel is finally competing on value cuz they didnt have any other option left. but investors are already angry because they dont like the smaller margins... that should tell you Intel will not be able to keep this up for long

HaHa. I think own fab + own packaging is cheaper than have to buy everything from 2nd hand factories. This is the reason AMD needed higher prices for own products. With worse times it will be harder for both make huge profits from less sales. And if you have too much staff, then you have to adjust it. The whole tech sector is in deep problems now. People have to buy bread and butter before they spend money on thing they may not need. So higher margins doesn’t help much if the volume is low due less sales (less people want to spend money). It’s about finding the right balance. Too expensive will only push people away from spending money. Nvidia etc sell out their new stuff. But this won’t last. New is only new with launch. And not all will buy cards around 2000$.

It looks good and I have no doubt it is going to be great. I won't know with 100% certainty until it is hooked up, but there is no reason to expect anything short of excellent.

Water will stay a lot longer in the Mo-ra due it's internal design so it should cool better. But you pay a higher price for this feature. Looking forwards to see your finished setup bro Fox🙂

  22. Have asked about buying this board on the second-hand market. I'll see if I can get it. Under half price vs new (barely used). Support DDR4 and not DDR5 but this should not be a problem. I am going to set up a reasonable gaming machine for my eldest son. Any suggestions on OK DDR4 (32GB)kit? Need to be a kit from the QVL list. My son will use it for gaming and for the usual on the web. He is not a tweaker. The board will cost around $160 here home. New is +350$. Yep it's an Asrock Z690 Extreme but an older used Asus Z390/Z490 board is at same or sligtly higher price here on the used market. So the price ain't bad. And he will get my golden 12900K and cooling for cheap. Target is Cyberpunk at 1440P with a mid end graphics card.

Edit. I'm looking at led strips to have some lighs in my chassis. All white. No need for color change features or installing awful software to make it work.

I have this option here home... akasa Vegas LED Strip Light White Bundle

Corsair 1000D is a big chassis. The Akasa led strips above is only 50 cm long (without connectors). I'll need 60 cm long led strips to fill each side (without connectors). Any suggestions? Cheap, all white and bright. Most likely brand name due limited parts supply here home. And I I prefer Magnetic attachment. Thanks
