new, never used a modified OS or done tweaking of the iso. It doesn't seem legit on their youtube channel. alot of complaints and low view count and other things. whats the best in your opinion OS to install. yeah noob question but I just never wanted or needed to modify windows very much as I used windows 7(happy) and windows 11(sad) with startisback gui

I'm not sure whats best, but sure I don't like Win 11 and the direction it goes. So it has to be latest version of Windows 10 if you do some customizations/changes for your likings. If you aren't a gamer maybe Win 10 2021 LTSC and do same tweaks, same as for the latest Win 10 build. Win 10 can be used until October 14, 2025. And the LTSC versions even longer.

Yup, you can make Win 11 more like Win 10 with tweaks/software... But put on some lipstick won't change the fact that the OS is still Win 11

Here are some options to try make Win 11 looks a bit better.

I have never tried a lite windows and don't know much about the source, I seem to have bad(dumb) luck with new programs, im downloading it right now and won't install it until I find out more.

update I cancelled download as it seems suspect, mediafire and he put all the effort into this.

jay where did you get your pheonix os from? does it cost money?

If you can't get this correct.... Then you are either noob or new into OS tuning.... From their Youtube channel videos two months ago.

User: Ive been running win10 lite iso's for awhile now but have an i7 12700h and needed a win11 lite build to take advantage of direct storage.. your reflection build is pretty great.. although one little thing.. you have automatic driver installation on.. so on my clean install, when i connected to the internet, windows updated all my drivers in the background while i was trying to update them manually.. i turned it off manually and rebooted but was too late and had to rreinstall the os again turn off the windows driver updates before i did anything else. other than that it's freaking great.. no noticeable performance loss coming from windows 10..

@WindowsX-Lite: You could try our latest W11 build, 'Exceptional 11' which has metered connection enabled for all new connections and types, which means it won't download drivers automatically (until you turn metered connection off)

Yes, same problem on W10 LTSC 2019, W10 LTSC 2021 and the various versions of W11. I have not tried an older version of 3DMark yet, but I will when I have more time to experiment. The problem is consistent enough that it "feels like" 3DMark has a framerate limiter on the 6900 XT. I often wear a tin foil hat, but in this case the performance is so low that it would be evidence of malfunction more than manipulation. (No, I would not be surprised at manipulation of results for a nefarious purpose.)

Forgot to ask. Same also with other AMD graphics drivers (release drivers)?

When we first talk about AMD.... AMD prepare for more/increase in security vulnerabilities in the future.

AMD Expected to Increase Microcode Size for Future Processor Technologies

Phoronix has recently uncovered an intriguing Linux update, with kernel improvements being prepared to handle greater microcode payloads—they believe that "future AMD CPUs will be getting larger microcode patches." The timing could suggest that upcoming Zen 5 processors will be likely candidates to meet new requirements: "Right now the Linux kernel has a maximum microcode patch size for AMD CPUs that is three times the kernel's page size (typically 4K). But with a patch (published on July 20) that will "increase substantially" to eight times the page size. The increase is intentionally quite a magnitude larger in order to avoid future patches further having to bump the patch size limit in later generations."

This one popped up from the dark today... Nice name... Zenbleed🙂 Does not require physical access to the computer or server and can even be executed via javascript on a webpage. Just plug and play, LOOL

AMD 'Zenbleed' Bug Allows Data Theft From Zen 2 Processors, Patches ComingA huge Zen 2 leak requires a patch.

AMD's statement implies there will be some performance impact from the patches, but we'll have to conduct independent benchmarks when the patches arrive for the consumer Ryzen products. In the meantime, we've asked AMD for any ballpark figures it can share.

And nice to see that AMD don't bother release a new security patch before end of 2023 for their consumer chips. This means you still can have the same Cpu performance another 4 or 5 months 🙂

  5. AMD 'Zenbleed' Bug Allows Data Theft From Zen 2 Processors, Patches ComingA huge Zen 2 leak requires a patch.

[Update 9:15am PT: AMD told us that patches to prevent Zenbleed are available for its EPYC Rome processors, but hasn't said if they are available for the impacted consumer Ryzen CPUs. AMD also hasn't given an ETA for patches for Ryzen chips or responded to our questions about potential performance impacts from the Zenbleed patches. We're still working to learn more.]

The 'Zenbleed' vulnerability spans the entire Zen 2 product stack, including AMD's EPYC data center processors and the Ryzen 3000 CPUs, allowing the theft of protected information from the CPU, such as encryption keys and user logins. The attack does not require physical access to the computer or server and can even be executed via javascript on a webpage.

Update. AMD's statement implies there will be some performance impact from the patches, but we'll have to conduct independent benchmarks when the patches arrive for the consumer Ryzen products. In the meantime, we've asked AMD for any ballpark figures it can share.

According to Ormandy, all Zen 2 CPUs are impacted, including the EPYC Rome processors:

    • AMD Ryzen 3000 Series Processors
    • AMD Ryzen PRO 3000 Series Processors
    • AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3000 Series Processors
    • AMD Ryzen 4000 Series Processors with Radeon Graphics
    • AMD Ryzen PRO 4000 Series Processors
    • AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Processors with Radeon Graphics
    • AMD Ryzen 7020 Series Processors with Radeon Graphics
    • AMD EPYC “Rome” Processors

Not what the fanboys want to hear. But the AMD engineers is spot on.... from the security bulletins.  "Any computer system" has risks of security vulnerabilities that cannot be completely prevented or mitigated

And nice to see that AMD don't bother release a new patch before end of 2023 for their consumer chips. This means you still can have the same Cpu performance another 4 or 5 months 🙂

I haven't looked for reports from other users. Just too busy to make that a priority since everything else seems to be working correctly. I noticed it with overclocking, since there is no point in running benchmarks stock if you're doing that for fun versus diagnostics. After seeing it I did test stock and the issue is the same. The clocks hold, power draw is right and no throttling or thermal issues, just abnormally low scores. That's why I think the problem is 3DMark or Windows, not the GPU. I did try older drivers and the latest, and multiple Windows installations, and no change.

Same behavior for all different installed OS? Or only one OS installed on the workstation? You could also install an older version 3DMark for testing. A fast solution to test.

It really does feel like the writing is on the wall for EVGA these days with chronic out of stock on just about anything new and lots of b-stock and refurb blow outs.

Hopefully not, but here is a last hurrah to everything awesome about EVGA:

Now sole distributor of rebranded half cheapo PSUs with short warranty and a few pc peripherals. There is more into this with EVGA than just that Nvidia become too greedy for them. The Nvidia move was just an camouflage for their major change in their business. Let it sink in... First do the graphics card stunt to get sympathy, then follow up later and kill the rest of their major HW lineup. Nice put all the blame on Nvidia and not on themself going out of business. Yep, I don't trust what come from EVGA forewards. EVGA is finished or better say dead as a real PC HW/OEM company....

I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit with that one. Disgusting. It's obvious who their target market is, and it sure as hell aint us, LOL. But, yeah... that looks like doggie dung to me.

But isn'yt it nice.... Asus have to find the so called better chips also for the new Puke themed 4090 OC EVA-02 Edition. Asus have now 3 different OC flagship models they can spread their better silicon on. Or even better... 4 different Strix based 4090 OC models will have to fight for the better silicon/vram if you include the 4090 Matrix. This means also even less chance to get good chips for the lower end of the 4090 SKUs😇

"4090 Strix OC EVA-02 Puke Edition" maintains the same impressive features as the original model, including a boost clock of up to 2640 MHz with GPU Tweak software and an out-of-the-box experience of 2610 MHz"

Of course, it will be necessary to expect an additional cost because of the Evangelion theme. Fortunately, we won't have to wait too long to see what Asus has in store for us "kids".

@ryan If I install multiple OS partitions on a single ssd drive I usually set them at 200GB. Better have slight headroom than cut it to the bone.

Edit. Mounted together the new benchtable. Big enough space to fit two 2 monitors. So far so good. I have a fancy all black gaming chair but I hate it. Awful to sit in so I have put it away. I need to see if I find a new one. But it won't be a new gaming chair. Just a regular office chair who is good to sit in. interesting find, but I just installed my ram and checked out ghost recon breakpoint at 4k, and before with 40gb and 16gb configs it was a stuttering mess and unplayable, now I just ran the benchmark and my 1 percent lows must be around 50fps and an average of 70fps on ultimate textures and ultra preset. because now its buttery smooth no issues. before due to ram I was getting 2fps now with 64gb of ram its pushing the card and getting 14fps on ultimate settings at 4k.

0 sources on you tube recommend 64gb its always 32gb. well thats because almost no one really games at 4k ultra. if you have 32gb your missing out on performance, also I turned off my page file just so it doesn't spill over to my ssd not like im actually going to use 64gb. so yeah pretty suprised I honestly did not expect anything, maybe 1 or 2fps more but it was a night and day difference in the GRBP benchmark

Try this. Run cmd as adm.
    bcdedit /set removememory 32768

To reset. Run cmd as adm...
    bcdedit /deletevalue removememory

See if this make an difference with half the ram🙂 I expect you have 64GB ram.

Pretty much everything in the tech industry is moving to the point that it boils down to "How much are you willing to put up with and at what price tipping point are you willing to tolerate that much crap?" I am having to re-evaluate a lot of things, including whether or not being a PC enthusiast is even a thing worth pursuing any more.  It is starting to feel like the term "PC enthusiast" is an oxymoron. At some point I could see PC ownership being reduced to the equivalent of owning a hammer or a set of screwdrivers. You use them when you need to drive a nail or a screw. The rest of the time they are in your toolbox. You don't think about them. You don't upgrade them. You don't show them to your friends, make YouTube videos about them, or feel a sense of accomplishment or pleasure from owning them. You might derive some level of satisfaction from what you use them to fix or create, but they are not an object of focus. If awesome doesn't matter any more, then the only questions that remain relate to purpose and adequacy. Can I make do with something from Harbor Freight, Walmart, maybe even the Dollar Store? Or, do I need to spend an absurd amount for a tool made by Snap-On that only gets used occasionally? Can I use a nail instead of a screw? If yes, then why do I need a screwdriver? A hammer is good enough. How many nails do I need to set? One or two? I think I can use that rock in my backyard for that. Why waste money on a hammer?

Do you need have to play with the latest and greatest all time to be a "PC enthusiast"? I fiddle a lot with older hardware so I have to be put in the category "average Joe"....

Depends on the type benchmarks you run. Usually you get max speed etc in Crystal Diskmark and similar ssd benchmarks.

And as I have already pointed out… Sequential read/write isn’t what you should measure as the important speed. You don’t move huge files the whole day or 24/7/365.

As for the 5gen ssd above you should see Sequential Reads/Writes: 12,400 MBps / 11,800 MB/s. But you get well under 10.000 MBps in AS-SSD. Different benchmarks give different results.
