There shouldn't be any issue running purely off the adapter. What wattage is the adapter that you supplied? If it's a 180W or lower then it's possible there isn't enough power being supplied.

Ive learnd  in the past days , that the Alienware 17 was the first series laptop that had primary mosfet problems , and it lasted to all 6-7 th gen cpu 13-15-17 laptops , dell only managed to solve this problem with the 8.gen cpu series. Thats a litle bit dissapointing .

I used to run my Ranger with no battery and didnt have those issues. May want to open HWINFO and try to get some limit reasons to try and narrow that down.

Ive sold the laptop and the feedback was that its doing this, i have heard today that the DC-DC circuit is often overloading  if there is no battery present,  probably dell bypass this problem with a bios update thats holds back the performance.

One sec how the hell you got pcie 4.0 to work that's amazing work buddy 👏 👍 👌

I wish my adapter could do pcie 4.0 😅

Its working at 3.0 X16, MXM slots only support that, and the cards is compatible backwards,  its will shown as a 4.0 X16 but its only working at 3.0 X16 as in desktop rigsas well.

I'm currently swapping a gtx 1080 for an rtx 2080 in a Clevo P775TM1. So I'm in the market for heatsinks for 20-series GPUs. I'm also willing to swap my Clevo 10-series heatsinks for the 20-series ones. If anybody is interested please hit me up.

Ebay , it a from china 775TM rtx china

Pr canada but almost double price Canada

Or Clevo germany  125eur Clevo Germany P77FN-401

But if You have money go with this: Aliexpress heatsink Im getting this 20/30 series air heatsink for my 751TM , also there is a way to get the hybrid water air heatsink  for better cooling.

thats promising though. one could feasibly either solder the eDP connector onto the board, or if you have one of those older models, you could swap out the internal screen with an eDP model. they include the cable for it 🙂

I will dig up the thread,  and paste it here , but its not just an edp connector soldering,  bounch of caps and resistors needed 2 :/, and thats require a technician who has those tiny soldering tools and etc.

  6. I have found an article on the old NBR forum that says,  the are some early m15x's with soldered edp connector , but alienware never maded cable for it .

Some pics shows there is edp option in bios , and someone was able the get it post with a 1060 but being an lvds screen no image was shown in the internal display.

ah that sucks, i remember Pascal onwards was dependant on eDP only, no more lvds. maybe theres some kind of signal adapter? aliexpress always offers crazy stuff like that 😄

Y its sucks,  the lack of optimus/intel hd is the other problem,  if You take it apart,  you can see on the MB there is the lvds connector and next to it there is the place where the edp connector should be , but its missing. Even on the MB, the connector is labeled but its missing.

    the m15x just keeps going...what about a quadro P5200? 😁

Hey! Pascal cards are no go.  Due to the MB/bios ,ec bios is monitoring signal feedback at the lvds connection/communication.  If you dont have an lvds capable card in it , it wont turn on.

Im trying to get a solution for that, if its even possible.

Yeah it has to be able to read the sensors it wants or it turns off the system. Obviously Clevo cards have better chance of working but MSI is usually the next best option in terms of at least posting and letting you boot up.

When another member on NBR (cant remember username) tried to get some newer cards working for the M4600 they were only able to get some cards working under Linux as Windows would crash or lock up. Same drill for a couple of the other Dell Precision systems, no idea if that will hold any water for the P180HM though. Worth a try

Ive done the same with a M6700 and M6800 +P3000(1060), you have to flash an early vbios to the card otherwise windows will keep crashing at booting.

    Hi all.

I recently bought Clevo P180HM w. GTX680M. I have heard that this is already the best GPU that will work in this laptop, but since I have a bunch of MXM cards lying around I decided to give them a try.

First, Dell Quadro M3000M I use in M980NU - hang at the boot screen with beeps from time to time.

Then MSI GTX970M - after boot screen it stops at black screen with blinking cursor.

I have still Dell 765M after failed mod (I don't remember what I've done to it, but it shows as 780M in GPU-Z) and Dell HD8970M to try.

I have also tried different thing - 680M in master slot and the other card in slave slot.

Windows 7 displays GPU renderer error but suprisingly such a configuration works under W10.

With basic MS driver for 680M and Nvidia driver for the second card I was able to use the latter as the 3D renderer. Both 765M and 970M works in this configuration (M3000M does not - hang), althrough performance is very disappointing - GPU utilization reaches about 70%, but FPS in games is around 15% of what it should be.

Is there anything else I could try? Maybe Pascal? There are P106M and Quadro P1000M that I can buy and I also spotted Radeon RX580M or something along those lines on Aliexpress, but I don't want to waste money if they are not going to work.

Maybe a bios flash would help for you, p180 and p370 series dont have igpu.

    hi,

you need unlocked BIOS then force IGFX mode to prevent detection of mxm card.

Then you can use the laptop without mxm with fan curve working perfectly.

that pic is when i wanted to install unlocked bios but getting error message that its not compatible. Ive already sold the laptop cuz of it.

Are the heatsinks for p775tm1 and p751tm1 the same or interchangable?

They are different size, as is the 775 is wider, the same applies to the heatsink. In the ZM (4.gen desktop) they are the same , but after that they are not compatible. It can cool same amount of heat btw.

damn, may i ask why ure restricting the cpu so crazily with regards to wattage?

If i dont restrict it , its reaching 135W at 100C . First with the stock bios i just turned off turbo boost , it was all time 3.1ghz with any number of active cores. For now its 70C max and the cpu fan produce acceptable noise, im gonna go with the Aliexpress air cooler for 30xx series card version so im hoping the gpu will be a litle bit cooler. My problem is that i have the IGZO 4k in it with a 2080 and if i set the resolution to 4k the gpu is running at max power limit (165W) with full fan speed at 80-85C . For mooving the laptop i dont want to go with the watercooler heatsink.

    ***Edit***

So successfully flashed DSANKE 1.7.29 Bios using DOS method.

I’ve noticed that serial number and board number are blank within the main page of the Bios (which has thrown a registration problem up with my Obsidion Fan Control app)

I’m a bit worried the Windows installation may become unregistered somehow as well if its not seeing a serial number etc from my motherboard

Anyone know if this is normal behaviour ?

    Hi,

    Total noob here.

Currently got latest P775TM1 Bios installed (used Windows installation method a few weeks ago - i remember running a windows batch file called 'FLASHMEWINX64.BAT' and running through some Dos prompts).

I now wish to install DSANKE's unlocked version downloaded from this thread.

Can someone please let me know the steps to try this in Windows ? Would i just replace the rom in the folder and run the above .bat file again with it picking up the DSANKE rom ?

    Probably totally wrong !!!

PS i don't mind an alternate method but not got a programmer and wouldn't know how to start with that method anyway so guess it's a shot with Windows method.

    Please help.

    Regards

    Chris

Hi! I did the same Dsanke bios to my 751TM , and yes everyone who flsh bios will loose obsidian, we did it with eeprom writer with a 9900 , PL1 at 60W PL at 65W and 3.5 ghz allcore ,3.7 at 6 cores , 3.9 at 4 cores and 4.5 at 2 cores. its quiet and 70C max , tried Clevo contor center , but it messed up my OS so i removed it. Im happy with de result, probably i can get an another 5-10 C with delid or direct die and a peice of vapor block.
