introduction What web browser are you using, and why?
Mr. Fox replied to Mr. Fox's topic in General Software
It imported all bookmarks, passwords, etc directly from Chrome. So, I do have to worry about trying to fart around with manually trying to manage 10,000 things that I started saving since the beginning of time, LOL.- 158 replies

Yes, same here. Never thought I would find anything good enough to replace Chrome, but this might do it if anything can. And, yes... you can use Chrome extensions. It is built on Chrome and natively supports Chrome Web Store stuff.- 158 replies

Hey guys. Long time Chrome user here. Before Chrome, Internet Explorer (which I actually still like a lot from a GUI perspective). I have tried hard to like Firefox, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Edge and I just can't like any of the browsers that compete with Chrome. They all have too many things that I do not like about them and none are as convenient to use. Well... that was until a couple of days ago. I stumbled upon Opera GX. Yeah, I know... Opera. I've always viewed it as a joke. But, GX is different. It has a ton of features, looks good, runs extremely fast, and is highly configurable. Opera GX has controls that allow you to set a limit on RAM and CPU resources the browser is permitted to use, and the controls are working really well for me. In Settings you can make the RAM and CPU limiter values persistent. Naturally, I get rid of the the tacky-looking tiles, fake news and other worthless feces they throw on the default home page. Anything like that sucks to me, and if I can't turn off the news lies and propaganda the woke dummies intend to show me, then I'm not going to give them a platform for them to showcase their stupidity. That just makes me angry. If you are like me, you will want to disable GX Corner so you don't have to see that crap every time you open the browser. But, the bottom line is Opera GX is highly configurable. You can do it your way and stop being part of the sheeple flock. I never in a million years thought I would be recommending something other than Chrome, and especially not Opera. So, I guess that is a nice example of why it is best to limit the use of the word "never" (unless you enjoy crow meat). Do yourself a favor and check it out. And, don't forget to cast a vote in the poll once you make up your mind. https://www.opera.com/gx As I mentioned above, I think this really sucks. So, I turn it off in settings. @Papusan

I might. I haven't decided yet. Probably, but maybe not at first. If I can keep it cold enough on chilled water (not likely) then I will not. -

So, here is a baseline to compare with the parts that are coming. No drive caching cheat for artificially high scores. GPU run with stock clocks. https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V10/display.php?id=152210758645 -

I do not think that Steam allows you to transfer games from your library to someone else due to the potential for theft, etc. Unless something recently changed, that is not possible. Thank you. Definitely appreciate you. -

No, I do not. It looks like a good game. I generally wait and buy games after the prices fall to around $20 or less and that one hasn't been offered at that low pricepoint yet, even on the Chinese CD Key seller websites. I own about 325 games and have not played but maybe one third of them. Some I only purchased because they have a built-in benchmark. -

I actually intended to "check" the keys using Steam and planned to post what they are and share with others here. I think that used to work because entering a key first showed you what it was, then you had to click another button to redeem it. When I entered them to "check" they automatically registered to my account and prompted me to install them. But, thank you very much. Your generosity is awesome. -

I agree. I really cannot tell any difference in performance between NVMe and SATA SSD unless I run an SSD benchmark. I do like the M.2 form factor (NVMe and SATA) a lot because it is convenient to work with and doesn't require any wiring to work. If the firmware that ships with the Unify-X works correctly then I will have no reason to update it. We are both the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type and firmware is the fastest and easiest way to turn something good into something that sucks. Updating firmware for no reason other than a newer version has been released is absolutely stupid. -

Nice Crocks, bro. 🙂 I hope that my series of unfortunate events are over as well. I like Samsung NVMe SSDs as well. Since the Unify-X has 5 slots I am going to use the 4 Samsungs that I already have and I ordered a WD Black SN750 500GB Gen 4 to fill the extra slot. I am hoping I can just plug and play the Windows 7 installation on the Unify-X without all of the idiotic issues I had with NVMe/M.2 slots on the Z590 Dark causing BSOD issues without the M.2 slots disabled in the BIOS. -

Yeah, I do not like Gigabutt or ASRock. I have had one of each and was not impressed with either of them, and they were the "good" ones (as if popularity ever mattered). Yes, I got that CPU and RAM from the same guy on eBay and got the price down about $50. I ended up paying about $50 over retail for the SP92 to avoid taking my chances in drawing a crap CPU in the lottery. The seller was running the RAM at 6200 28-37-37-78 at 1T and tight sub-timings using 1.470V. So, that should be a decent kit. TeamGroup RAM isn't the most tasteful aesthetically, but if the RAM overclocks well I can ignore the looks of it, or replace the heat sinks with something more generic. For this I agreed to take 2 days of PTO from work for a 4-day weekend and repaint the great room (kitchen, foyer, dining and family room). Seems like a fair trade since I knew that was something she was wanting. -

Thank you. Based on the research I was able to complete among a tremendous amount of marketing noise and lies, that Unify-X does seem like the best option overall. As much as EVGA is my first choice, I am not willing to pay the premium price for an EVGA Dark board. If Brother @Rage Set gets some incredible results from it, I might consider it later on if the MSI board isn't everything I hope it will be. The one thing I do not like about the design of the Dark series--probably the only thing--is the VRM heat sink interfering with placement of a water-cooled GPU backplate. Besides my own less than wonderful experience with ASUS, I have been noticing many things that do not boost my confidence about the brand based on what others are experiencing. I haven't been impressed by MSI overall and I am kind of going out on a limb here. My only experience with a product made by MSI was the Tornado F5 laptop, so my opinions are only based on what I see, hear and read. They have historically been a brand that caters to gamer-boys and that has been the basis for my not liking them, but the Unify-X does seem like a legit overclocking enthusiast product. I liked Buildzoid's breakdown on the product and at the end of the day I don't care about brand except to the extent it become synonymous with quality (or the lack thereof). I like that MSI ditched the iGPU and the Unify-X doesn't support it at all. I also like that it has dual BIOS, board-mounted buttons and no RGB features on the board (only RGB headers). -

It should help lots of things. Run AIDA64 Cache and Memory benchmark with it turned off and repeat with it turned on and you will see the change in latency. It is nice when a free "upgrade" that takes 1 second does so much that you can feel it in the seat of your pants. But, it remains a mystery what the reason is for the poor performance option to even exist. The fact that it does seems very stupid to me. -

A dramatic improvement in memory latency and better overall system performance. Not sure if Gear 1 is SA GV on or off, but whichever option mean Gear 1 in proper vernacular. The stupid Gear 1/2 foolishness was one of the reasons I did not like Z590 and went back to Z490. There is no idiotic Gear 1, Gear 2 nonsense on Z490. There is no reason for the latter to exist. It does nothing but allow higher RAM clocks at the expense of sloppy loose timings and horrible latency. -

I think it's probably the most entertaining benchmark there is. Certainly my favorite in terms of entertainment value. -
@Papusan I cannot help but wonder how people that do not have a working internet connection are going to read an internet article about how to set up Windows 11 without an internet connection? 🙂

Did you download this one? If not, download and install that after removing any version you downloaded from Steam or elsewhere. The one from Steam and the one I had saved from a long time ago crash on all of my computers. https://catzilla.com/download If you need the Steam key for activation, once you have created a catzilla account and upload the first benchmark it will show in your catzilla.com account, or you can see this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/261920/discussions/0/558750624753422315/ -

Thank you. I grabbed one. If you were posting it on HWBOT it would require CPU-Z x3 (once each showing tabs for CPU, Mainboard and Memory, full screen-not cropped, showing taskbar and clock) just like the example below, but for here we are not going to be critical if you choose not to follow HWBOT rules. Example:
