  1. The Prime Thanatos OUTRUN Playlists:
  2. After some back and forth i have finally settled with debian-based TuxedoOS. Everything is running fine, even a nice control-center with fan controls. They sell laptops and desktops for Linux, but the software is running on my Clevo without issues.

    FPS/Hz question

You may laugh, but i never have owned a system, that is capable of running/displaying more than 60fps. What FPS or Hz do you see as a minimum for improvement after the base value of 60? I don't play shooters, MMOs are the most action the system would be getting. I am pretty sure, i will need a new laptop and a monitor to get anything above 60 fps/Hz - my current display only supports 60Hz - but the main question are the minimum requirement. Resolution is also key. Huge difference between 2160p or 1440p, even for older games.
  4. Which one do you have? The 32" Optix or MPG version?
  5. I was wondering, if this community will outright wither and die, if there will be only BGA builds left to talk about and the non-BGA builds cannot be upgraded anymore? The hate for BGA is oozing from all threads in here, so there is that. Personally, i don't care about the hate, because my BGA doesn't offer anything to target, since it has been running perfectly for 7 years now. And with Linux it will easily reach 10 years and beyond. Even Windows 11 is running without issues on an external SSD. Do you think, the community will be capable to exist with BGA-only builds? TBH, as before with NBR, i only got there because of Clevo. For Dell, Lenovo etc. i can go to any other tech community for help as well. Even for mods. And manufacturers with modular parts like Framework already have an active online community in the Fediverse.
  6. When they announced closing down business - the software was still developed for a couple of months - i tried to get the versions from them. But they never answered. I only experienced great support via e-mail from them over the years, but this was a letdown. The developer said, there were no plans to monetize the software after closing down. It's a shame, that the apps were not made available to the public.
  7. I only still use the fan control. I have 2019 versions of all 4 apps. Probably not the latest available version each. But i can upload them for you. @zex4 You got PM.
  8. 2.4.9. is the latest. My machine is from Obsidian. It's a shame they don't build laptops anymore. Fantastic build, no issues since 2017.
  9. I have one of these hated BGA machines. It's from 2017 and currently triple-booting 2xLinux and Win11. Running like day one. No need to upgrade.
  10. I went to large store for travel gear yesterday and got this one with a discount: https://www.packeasy.ch/en/collections/handgepaeck-trolleys/products/genius-business-trolley-schwarz Hard case. It was the one used for testing out with no obvious scratches and i got it for 200€.
  11. Has anyone experience with taking his gaming laptop on business trips? Do you use a backpack or a suitcase? I have a sports bag where i put the machine on top of the clothing as additional padding. I think that a trolley would be best, but i am not sure about the size. The gaming machines are often a little larger and thicker than typical 17,3" laptops. I have found the Wenger Patriot and Samsonite GuardIT 2.0 for now, that also offer great quality.
  12. 32", UHD, 240Hz, KVM Switch with USB-PD. First reviews praise the perfect allround capabilities for gaming and office. f.e. https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus-rog-swift-pg32ucdm I think one of this gen will be my new monitor.
  13. I had a couple of days to brood about the situation and the longer i think about it, it makes less sense. The improvement for my current situation would be minimal. It would make more sense to invest in a display upgrade with an integrated USB-C hub or KVM switch. Most of these already support USB PD up to 65 or 100W. There are even gaming displays on the market with these specs. Time to think some more about it. 😭
  14. Holy moly. https://www.store.level1techs.com/products/hardware They have some switches meeting my criteria, but these start at 600$. Whew.
  15. I now know that this only works properly with a KVM switch. To simplify the search a little, I have shortened the minimum requirements; all KVM switches should fulfil the rest: 2x USB-C host connection (1x with at least 60W PD) At least 1 additional USB-C port 1x DP (4K/120+Hz ready) 1x RJ45, 1Gbit is sufficient
  16. As mobile working has been getting more important for me, I would like to free the setup on my desk from a few cables. I have a Surface Pro 7+ fro work and a Clevo gaming laptop (see signature), which are currently connected to a 32" 4K@60Hz display via HDMI+DP. The Surface has a USB-A and a USB-C port (both 5Gbit, USB-C with PD), the gaming laptop has 2 USB-A and 2 USB-C 10Gbit ports. Connection preferable via USB-C in each case. I would like to be able to connect both laptops at the same time. Input devices run via Bluetooth. A camera, printer (USB-A) and an external USB-C hard drive are mandatory USB devices. 1Gbit ethernet too, of course. The Surface should be chargeable via USB-C PD (60+W), the gaming laptop has its own 200W power supply. Then I don't need the Surface power supply anymore. I've only ever used docking stations for individual devices, which is why I'm asking what the right product is for switching between the laptops? In the medium/long term, it might not be a bad idea if the docking station supports 4K@120Hz in case I ever buy a monitor with a higher frequency. Any advice?
  17. I am running Ubuntu and TuxedoOS, both are running flawless with Steam.
  18. i am trying to get Garuda Grub to use my external display. Normally there is a key combination to activate an external display. Fn+F8 or else. I think, that all Clevo laptops (with numpad) have the same or very similiar layout. Which symbol should be the correct one? No Fn+ combinations are working at the moment for my display issue, but if i know the correct key, maybe i can work sth out.
  19. Come on, is nobody cleaning their keyboards from time to time?
  20. Since i am using my machine as a DTR with an external display, my laptop keyboard is rarely in use. To be honest, it's only mobile when on business trips. I now have found a couple of keys a little unresponsive - they are not sticky or getting stuck, but i have to push them harder to get them to function than ever before. Whar is your preferred way of cleaning such a keyboard? Or should i inspect single keys first?
  21. Sounds like, if you don't really need mobility, go always big for more screen size, better cooling and more connectivity options?
  22. This is more of a general recommendation, i don't need a laptop in the next couple of months. My current machine is a 17,3" Clevo, that is sitting 99% of the time closed on my docking stand connected to 32" 4k display. The GTX1060 is still fine for 4k gaming - with rather older games - and i only use it open when on business trips for FHD gaming. As long as it is enough for my current games and still "just works" i won't need a new one. But if...what would you recommend in regards to size? The use case won't change. Just take again a 17"+ to cover all bases, since there is no "too big" when used mobile that rare? I am pretty sure, that 15,6" will include enough performancewise, but i don't have any experience if gaming is any fun with this display size.
  23. Proton 8 has further enhanced and stabilized my gaming experience with Steam. Everything runs as good as with Windows. 😎
  24. Google Authenticator has been marked as a security risk for syncing data in plain text without encryption. https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2023/04/googles-new-two-factor-authentication-isnt-end-to-end-encrypted-tests-show/ Is there a way, that we use another app, because it's mandatory in here at the moment?
  25. Which brand do you use, that doesn't trigger incompatibility warnings everytime you change the ink?
