  1. The main problem is, that this community has rather few members and not everyone left is tinkering around with their laptops anymore. Like me for example. Normally, i only login once a week, because there is not much interesting activity. This is not, what NoteBookReview once was. Unfortunately. In addition, there are not many models on the market available, that can be used for modding. Almost none with current hardware. Which makes such a forum really difficult to maintain.
  2. I got hands on an almost brand-new MS Surface Pro 11 OLED, but i fear that no current Linux distro will be able to support a detachable with current hardware. Even the Linux on Surface project hasn't done any reliable testing on this model I will throw a couple of distros at it and will see, if something is working. If not, i can always switch back to Windows 11. Fedora has a Mobile Spin version available, but this is intended mainly for smartphones. Ubuntu is already a track record of supporting touch&pen on some devices, but none with current hardware. I'll keep you posted on my journey, but my hopes are dim.
  3. I have a Lenovo X390 with Linux Mint. It's enough for everything apart from gaming. 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Fast as hell. Touch, pen and everything else working out of the box.
  4. I am really glad, that i don't this big laptops anymore. My current 16" with a RTX4060 will suit me for at least the next 7-8 years. And i got it from the Lenovo outlet as new for 1000€. It has no flaws or drawbacks whatsoever.
  5. I have the same wallpaper on Linux, WIndows, BSD and macOS. I won't post it, just making a point. 😇
  6. 99% of AI is complete BS (and dangerous) anyway.
  7. The consequence of the dumb centralization. Just like the Cloudfare incident. Many more to follow.
  8. You asked for it 😎
  9. My new toy is also my first 2-in-1 machine. Everything works with Linux Mint out of the box. Touchscreen, pen, laptop/tablet switching. Thinking about giving it to my daughter as her first PC.
  10. I cannot see any battery activity over night, so i think you are right. Thanks!
  11. My current laptop, a Legion 5 Pro, is the first i own, that can power/charge external USB devices when turned off, as long as the laptop is main powered. Regardless of PD capabilities, every USB port is charging an external device. Could this concern the health of the battery in the long run? I am limiting battery charging to 80%, because the laptop is used as a DTR.
  12. I don't see it as bad as with Windows - which i still also use - to be behind in security issues. You don't have that much critical ones with Linux. If you are paranoid and want to be really on the safe side, the current kernel is the best for sure. The most effort is going into this one. To be honest, my backup laptop has elementaryOS running on the 2nd SSD and like it a lot. More of a warning statement, not a no-go.
  13. I like the challenge of being ahead of MS with my hardened clutter-free version of WIndows 11. Until now - with minor regular modifications - i am totally fine with it. They try, they fail. And since i am not alone with this, i always find solutions, if anything comes up with an update. My Win11 is running rather lightweight and very solid, let them come. And i always have Linux running on my 2nd SSD and my 2nd laptop.
  14. ZorinOS is always behind in security updates because of an older kernel. That is my main drawback for a couple of "nice and shiny" distros. (Pop!OS, elementaryOS etc.) Older kernels are getting updates as well, but it's not the same as with the current kernel. And Mint is as patched as the main Linux source distros.
  15. The Dragonized edition comes with a bunch of pre-installed emus covering every need. I guess, that every edition of Garuda will be easy to use with emus. I have already great experience with Steam and Lutris.
  16. Does someone know, if there is a battery with more capacity available than the original one? I want to use my P670 as a distro testing machine, but it is in need of a new battery after 8 years. Would be nice to have an upgrade on the 60Wh (4000mAh). I have already found compatible ones - with original capacity - for under 50€.
  17. The same reason i start testing it. Rather easy to use, since a lot is accessible via system GUI, which normally would need terminal wizardy in Arch.
  18. My main distro is still TuxedoOS, i have established Garuda as an Arch based distro as backup.
  19. It's Arch with KDE and very vibrant themes. It offers a lot of automated processes for streamling fiddly Arch updating. It's my backup distro, my main is TuxedoOS.
  20. I am using Linux, macOS and Windows 11 at the same time and all are running great for me. I am not the "move to guy", more the expanding one. Throw a machine at me and i can work with it.
  21. ZorinOS is using a rather old kernel and is always late for security patches. It's looking awesome, but i did move away for security reasons. The same goes for ElementaryOS and Pop!OS. Shiny distributions with great visuals and features, but this comes with a price.
  22. Linux

    Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

I am using my 2017 FanControl license from Obsidian computers (RIP) through Wine. Best fan and temp control i have ever had. Works as with Windows. Games through Steam, no issues there. Haven't used HWmonitor since switching to Linux. I am pretty sure there is one for Linux.
  23. I got me a refurbished 2024 Lenovo Legion Pro 5 (2 years warranty) with a Ryzen 9 7945HX and GTX4060. 32gigs RAM and 2x1TB SSD. Running Ubuntu Pro for the moment. This thing is fast as hell. And outside gaming dead silent. Fantastic display (real 500 nits), fine keyboard and the overall quality & feel is great. I will add Windows 11 to the 2nd SSD soon, my "old" Clevo will be Linux-only from now on.
  24. My new laptop has a Ryzen 9 CPU. Case closed.
  25. Basically you should ditch the complete 13th and 14th gen Intel CPU (crashes, bugs and heat) and go back to 12th gen Alder lake or wait for the new mobile lineup in 2025.
