Oh my. I did miss this thread when i did start using Linux. I currently have huge issues with Steam and Crossover regarding the only game i play. Out of the blue, Lord of the Rings Online started stuttering even on the login screen. I tried several Proton builds, no change at all. Then i tried Crossover (which is using Wine) and installed the game with a WIndows 10 64bit bottle. After logging in, the game doesn't load further. I had to go back to my Windows installation - running on an external SSD, since both of my internal SSD are used for my main Linux distro and distro testing - to play LOTRO. No issues at all, so the game seems not to be the culprit. And a more general question: What do you prefer for gaming on Linux? Steam, pure Wine, Crossover or PlayOnLinux?

I think, this is a more general Clevo or even laptop question. I have been using an USB DAC for a couple of years now. There are some issues with it regarding music playback under Linux right now and i wanted to try out the Soundblaster X-Fi that comes with my Clevo P670. But the card doesn't show up in any hardware list. With Linux and Windows. Just Realtek/Nvidia and the DAC are visible. Windows: The equipment is not disabled in the device manager. I have read somewhere, that the Soundblaster has not it's own chip, but is a software enhanced version of the Realtek audio. Can someone shed light on it or help out to get the Soundblaster running? I know, that the series has been discontinued for a couple of years and there are no new drivers available, but i don't think it's a driver issue in the first place. I am just doing it wrong how to enable/install it. The Clevo P670 has an AMI BIOS, so no fancy options in the BIOS to accidentally disable the chip.

Their OS seems to be very interesting as well. KDE Plasma as default environment and good implementation of Nvidia drivers. Maybe i will give this a try as well.

Got it running and it does a perfect job so far. No interference with energy management of Pop!OS.

Come on. Someone surely is running Linux with a fan control software in here.

I am looking for a replacement of my great Obsidian fan control, since there is only a Windows version available and it isn't developed anymore. I only need to set 3 speeds for different threshold temperatures. The fans are constantly running with Linux, even with temperatures <45°C. Nothing sophisticated for benchmarking or similar needed. Running Pop!OS with KDE Plasma

Thanks to Linux only mode now, i finally can ignore this thread in the future. 😁

No issues with my Clevo model there. Everything works.

I started with Mint, then tested Nobara, elementaryOS and settled with Pop!OS, since it has the best Nvidia implementation of all distros. Almost all of my daily activities have already been ported from Windows 11, so Linux-only will be the goal for 2023. I am still juggling with the desktop environment. Both GNOME and KDE have their pros and cons.

What size is your table to use such a monster within "arms-length"? I feel, that i already have reached the limit with my 32" 4k display.

No, i don't. Didn't have to flash a BIOS this way yet. But it's cheap and i can get one, if i need to. But first i will have to find a suitable BIOS i guess? -

I haven't seen anything apart from direct updates like SSD etc. for this model. Display is not an issue for me, my machine is connected to an external display 95% of the time. I use it more as a DTR. -

Yes. R1.05.14 is the latest official BIOS for this model. P.S. My old username was defcon42, the thread starter. You can take my system info from there, if needed. -
Why are you still using Windows, when bashing about it is the only thing you do in this thread? Whats the point?

Is there any other source to look for a custom/modded BIOS for my machine? Apparently in here nobody other than me uses this model and then the lack of support is not a surprise. -
Samsung 32" 4K VA. I don't do much gaming anymore, so the 60Hz are totally fine with me. I have been using the display since 2018.

Only visible on the laptop display and selection is only possible with the laptop also, because BT isn't loaded yet.

I am running Linux Mint and WIn11 in dual-boot mode. Is there a way to make GRUB use the external display as primary for boot selection? In addition i have the issue that BT isn't yet active in GRUB and i always have to open the laptop until the OS is being loaded. The BIOS of my P670HP6-G is outdated and doesn't have options regarding the display or BT like more modern ones. And yes, i always have to open the lid a little bit for pushing the power button, but that is nothing against the current ordeal. Especially when switching OS a couple of times during the day.

LOTRO More or less the only game i have been playing since 2007. Still fun, but my time is very limited anyway. Runs also on Mint through Steam without issues.

The sub-par 300nits on the display must be a typo? They cannot be serious with this in 2023. -
Twitter is dead to me and i have moved on to the Fediverse. I already run my own (private Mastodon) instance.

That is a very good point. You actually need a use-case for justifying more than 1Gbps. If i transfer many or big files through my network from device A to B i don't care, if it takes 30s or 5mins. Over 95% of the time these transfers are running in the background anyway.

No reaction from admins, so i made a new account
Linux replied to Linux's topic in New here? Introduce Yourself
@RecieverI am using a well-known e-mail provider, with which i had never any issues regarding registration processes. I used the same for the new account as well, only with another alias for apparent reasons. Not an issue anymore, i have a new account and i can live with that. -
What phone are you daily driving currently?
