  1. Right? I love LOVE the look and feel of the 5090/5080 FE (They're identical externally FYI). Personally, aesthetically speaking, it works better in an all black case with minimal RGB (let's the Logo stand out). With just the GPU and ROG lit up in my system, it gives it such an industrial Blade Runner look. Your blacked out MB complements it very well, but that white gpu power cable is nails on a chalkboard to me lol.
  2. Whew, 9070xt GPU score is right there neck and neck with the 7900xtx for raster stock for stock (assuming the top middle score is pure stock). Still stings being in the queue for the $599.99 9070xt and them selling out....😭
  3. Banger of a card for $600-700..... For the idiots out there paying $800-900, shame on you... 🤣 Exactly. I have no desire for any other cards except the FE, Suprim or Astral aka small, medium and large in pricing choices. AMD did say they made gains in RT with RDNA4 and they weren't lying. It flat out beats the 7900xtx while also being within respectable distance of it with raster. Bring on the 9070xtx w/ 24GB for "$749.99" ---------------------------- Oh, and MSI 18" Raider is now $5099.99 for the 9950HX3D w/ 5090.... Looks like they did away with the Steelseries KB too so might have to run their Mystic Light software.....eww.
  4. Awesome!! Congrats brother @Papusan! Looking forward to your results!
  5. Nice bro! Hopefully no coil whine and excessive electronic noise.
  6. 9800X3D tuned to the bone and seeing 99% GPU utilization in Dornogal for the first time ever 4k Ultra 10 RT enabled w/ the 5080. With this setup, so many spots the 5080 is being capped at 99% vs the 14900KS even with player data which usually hits the CPU/RAM pretty hard causing utilization to drop. The better the CPU and tuned the DDR5, the better utilization is with player data in WoW. I have some spots in the game I benchmark in Hallowfall which removes player data/CPU bottlenecks naturally and can cap out a 4090 even to 99% easily. That's where I tested to realize the 4090 is ~10-12% faster than the 5080 in WoW stock for stock. Definitely want a 5090 to see who wins the cap out wars. I also want to test a 9070xt against my 7900xtx data especially with RT on. @win32asmguy
  7. Coming along nicely! Not sure why the link to Anne Bradstreet is at the end though: https://poetandpoem.com/Anne-Bradstreet
  8. The whole idea of a 5090D is a farce. Once the full tilt cards / systems are out of Nvidia and AIB hands, there is no way to stop them from getting into China. You could even restrict the cards to US and they would STILL find a way into China. --- I absolutely agree with your take on the XOC vbios @Papusan but again what I said still stands in tandem with it. Just go grab the cheapest 5090 then and enjoy. Block it for some extra kick and slap on a chiller for a bit more and enjoy. Hope to get some good silicon and really enjoy! There's no rule that says anyone is entitled to the XOC vBIOSes out there. Nowhere are AIBs advertising them to buyers. It sucks, but it is what it is to assume by buying the card you suddenly have a right to a special vBIOS made for competitions or targeted OC'ers. And yes, I would like to have access to it but I understand why if I am unable to gain access to it. tl;dr It is what it is. Either buy the 5090 or don't. 🙂 ------------- 5090 vs 9070xt....cause...why not? 5090 obviously wins but price:performance the 9070xt is still a banger and some of the game results really don't have the 5090 crushing it like you would expect. I missed out on a $599.99 MSRP card on BB a few days ago that popped. Got into the queue at least but they sold out. ---
  9. Depends on how they implemented it this time with software tied directly to specific vBIOS it is quite easy to make individualized signed vBIOS and software that will only work with specific cards. Any leak would be able to be traced back to the original XOC'er and they wouldn't want to take a chance of that assuming the combo could be flashed onto generic same AIB cards vs embedded serial #s. I'm hoping they didn't go into super lockdown mode 2.0, but the fact the software is tied directly to the vbios has me thinking the GPU is then authenticated like a dongle to the combo somehow. For those who simply want to PnP and use the best? The continual lock down of overclocking means nothing to them unfortunately and they are the vast majority. Well, there is tiers to competition now. Accepting you are not an XOC'er, I guess you compete in the B-tier now amongst the rest of everyone else without it. It isn't as if you don't have competition to compete against. You're just not an XOC'er level competitor. I don't like to see special tweaks and vBIOS's being restricted, but I understand too. The competition is fierce and I remember watching some of those last videos from KP where they had binned 4090 GPU dies they would solder onto tweaked boards with binned memory and their XOC vBIOS's to compete with LN and more. It is another tier above all of us so we gotta stop acting like if we had access to the vBIOS's suddenly we would be competing. We would not. We would do BETTER but not in their league.... .....doesn't mean I don't want access to it though. 😞 The writing was on the wall last gen when they greatly scaled down their AMD offerings mid cycle with the 7000 series and EOL'd their 7900xtx gaming card well before the end of the cycle. I wonder what their reasons are too. Maybe one headache with Nvidia is enough and the marketshare is so much larger and scalping/pricing is in such flux they can make much more there than with AMD who we have found out is just as rigid as Nvidia and even moreso in some areas? Their pricing is getting outlandish too as we see with their GPUs, "bundles" and laptop pricing has gone through the roof asking $6k for the Titan and $4.9k for the Raider. I'm a bit sour on MSI at the minute because I used to consider them "the better Asus" in the realm of gaming/enthusiasts. Instead, they have jacked up all their prices including their "bottom tier" Ventus series. MSI is now getting into the act only offering their cards in bundle deals directly on their site. $3900+tax for their liquid 5090 + their 32" OLED.... craptastic bundles direct from the AIBs now...yay. gross.
  10. Locking down XOC on the 5090 even more...... Nvidia = Anti-fun Turned down a Ventus 5090 OC today for $2650+tax.... Remember when it was launched at $2199? *sigh*
  11. Actually it was this bundle which was ~$6000 after tax (5971)....yeah, that's a hard no. If I'm going to turn down a ~$3200 TUF after tax I'm definitely going to pass on this. If you really want to do any meaningful OC'ing / shunt modding, a block is a must especially with the 5090 FE.
  12. I had an Astral in my basket ready to checkout on Newegg.... Did I mention it was the $5971 bundle? 🤣 I did not purchase it. 🙂
  13. 5080 FE has a slightly scaled down cooler internally vs the 5090 considering the 5090 has a 575w TDP. 5080 FE OCs like a beast as do most 5080s. They have more headroom and cooling per watt than the 5090 but all the OCing in the world ain't gonna put it in the 5090's neck of the woods. 🙂 10-20% OC (depending on boost vs silicon quality) nets you 7-10% performance gain so definitely doesn't scale linearly but going from ~2700ish out of box boost to ~3200ish clocks happens quite frequently with some hitting ~3300+ along with the thermal and power headroom to support it. Your cooler is going to give up the ghost pretty quick with a shunt mod on your 5090 FE. The one knock on the 5090 FE are the temps are usually higher than just about every AIB aftermarket model out there while still running within spec. I think you'll have more room to play on your laptop but even it will get hot much quicker. That does make sense and would be fantastic to see. A ~15% bump to power is always welcomed. Exactly. Most gamers are casual and just like to play games. Budget is the #1 concern and the object is to play. If that means going with recommended settings auto set and/or adjusting down as needed they do it. Like my nephew when I asked how the 12100+A380 was working out? "Fan freakin' tastic Uncle! I love this thing!" He games at 1080p. Our views are sometimes jaded when we think what the market wants vs reality. RGB of course nets you +10% fps so that's a must..... Nvidia is correct and we've seen it the previous cycles as demand drops and supply starts to catch up. I've said it the last few cycles and I'll re-iterate it again for the 5000/9000 series. Those on a budget will get the 5060, 9060 or B580 (which continues to sell out in the US FYI) and be happy. You will not find even new titles that can't scale down to work on each and everyone of those cards. Of course depending on what you want out of your gaming experience, you can pay more to get more but every single game out now can run on any of those cards and the last few generation of 060 class cards dialed down. Game devs know who butters their bread and scale settings accordingly. Same way everyone was whining about Hogwarts Legacy when it dropped yet dialed in it ran wonderfully on my daughter's first 12400+3070 no problem at QHD. Too many Youtubers pushing mid high to high+ settings and proclaiming "These cardz dun werk! Yer Vramz is all kaputz!" Just adjust the settings and viola! Suddenly those games work fine. Again, you want higher fps/settings? Then you upgrade your subsystem starting with the GPU usually. We bemoan dlss/fsr and fg, but those are the very technologies that will continue to let several generations of cards continue to perform and game and give them longevity including the 4000 and 5000 series.
  14. Steam hardware survey begs to differ: https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/ Budgets never change. Real life never changes. Those on controlled budgets can only spend so much and they will continue to find the best solution that fits within their budget. This is why even generations ago, mid tier and below class cards dominate and will continue to dominate. We live in a bubble in this thread not realizing how good we have it overall. Go to just about any Joe Gamer and talk about dropping $1k+ on a gaming GPU let alone $2k+ for a gaming GPU and they look at you like you're nuts. Most gamers just want to load up games and play and have no problems adjusting settings (or letting the game adjust to their hardware) and playing. They don't measure fps or benchmark or tune systems. They slap in a card (or have a place slap it in for them or buy a pre-built) and just use their computers as is. I do agree with you the ASP will continue to increase simply because inflation and costs continue to increase and companies will not give up their profits in any way, shape or form unless demand sharply decreases. I would argue though most gamers are more than happy with their mid tier purchases. And the last three cycles have shown us, and will again when all is said and done, that the 060/070 cards will dominate in market share.
  15. The bulk of sales end up being 3060/7600 type class cards and below when market cycles are finished. You might even be able to factor in 5070 ($550) when all is said and done but it is more the former than the latter. This data doesn't reflect 5060/5050 or 9060 or below cards which aren't introduced yet.
  16. Apex is black thank goodness. --- And yeah, this cycle is going to be another "meh" for gains on laptops for GPU until Nvidia has another proper node shrink or unclenches their cheeks and allows AIBs to have custom power profiles beyond 175w which would be ideal. Something built like a P870TM that could sustain a 300w GPU and 200w+ CPU along with dual PSUs if needed...kind of like an X170KM/SM on steroids. Like I said, the MSI will be my daily driver for the next few years like my NH55 was before but I always grimaced at the smaller screen and lugged an external 18.5" USB-C driven 120hz panel with me ---- As for that poll, lol high end 4090 enthusiasts continuing to be enthusiasts for the 5090. In real market share, the 4090/5090 is a halo/unicorn product even when readily available and percentage wise sells to a very small demographic. Most gamers are not dropping anywhere near $1500 for a GPU let alone $2k+. They are buying right around $600 or below. Just about everyone in this thread is an outlier in regards to PC hardware we own.
  17. Starting with the 12900HX, Intel basically started dropping desktop equivalents into their laptops. Same with AMD and the 7945HX. They're just binned for lower all core frequencies and power for the most part. They then wrap that around mobile focused chipsets. GPU wise, the node shrink for Nvidia let them finally offer a meaningful upgrade with the 4080 and 4090 mobile but basically using the same node for the 5000 series and jamming more power requirements into their desktop cards means 5080 and especially 5090 mobile aren't going to see that nice uplift like from the 3080ti->4090 mobile. And yeah, for QHD, the laptops can get the job done big time. Go with a 1080p 18" panel and they absolutely scream. Watching people absolutely massacre MSI on facebook with their ads for their upcoming MSI Titan starting at "only" $5999.99 or 5799.99 for the Ultra variant.... Such a great board! No problems running 8000+ and tuning my SP113 13900KS right out of the box.
  18. 7900xtx is still a beast, period. Still trading blows with the 4080 and 5080 in raster and the 9070xt at best can match it but usually loses in raster plus you get 24GB. Blocking and pushing 600w? Definitely let's see those results. 🙂
  19. Nice! Congratz bro! I may grab one down the road, but for my use case I'm not seeing as reason atm. 2200/6400 tuned. The reviews show AMD having worked out most of the bugs and kinks of the 7000 series (which also translated down to it too). Imagine when you pair a 5090 with it. 🙂 I love the 5000 FE series. Elegant looking and compact. EK does have a WB for it. De8auer's is still in prototype/testing phase but the GPU is clearly meant to be run as is. I love the aesthetics of it and how it looks in the case. 🙂 But if I'm going to block it anyhow? I would look elsewhere. Gigabyte with a position on the board for a secondary power connector is intriguing. Trying to import a HOF 5090D if possible. In the end, I'd grab the cheapest 5090 with the block I want and call it a wrap. --- The one good thing about the 9950X3D is moving that 3D vcache under the CCD and pushing proper clocks to it now out of the box. Reviews stock for stock show it neck and neck with the 9950x losing a few and winning a few for non gaming purposes. Early reviews it is hard to determine bin quality, so best to wait till more samples trickle in before dropping $700+tax but everything is looking good so far. 9950X3D is a no compromises CPU now. You get proper gaming and 16 core magic but in all honesty, AMD has ironed out their core priority issues for some time now so even 7950X3D works as intended. 9950X3D clocks higher out of the box than the 9800X3D and the first thing I would do with one is turn off the non X3D CCD and see where the X3D CCD can go on its own as is like I did with the 7950X3D. Your incoming 5090 is going to be tapping its foot waiting on your current setup in many situations now even moreso than your 4090 did. Yep, the 5090 FE to me is the sweet spot because the odds of landing a $2k Gigabyte or PNY are slim to none. The AIB pricing is just crazy now. To me, the 5090 is a, "in for a penny, in for a pound" scenario. Either an FE or something like an Astral if you're going to go that HAM over it. And yep, AIBs are in it for maximum profit and while tariffs are valid you have to look at it from a few angles. How much is Nvidia charging AIBs? How much is Nvidia's actual cost per chip/mem? If Nvidia is able to sustain pricing even as costs/tariffs kick in, that means their margins must be good enough and they are actually raking AIBs across the coals leaving them with hardly any room which has been reported before. This doesn't absolve AIBs for being opportunists and jacking up the prices especially with such demand. Either way congrats bro on a 5090 AND MSRP!
  20. Congrats bro! I also saw your other post on the OC forums, awesome fast sale on the 4090! You always have good energy and positivity so well deserved! For me, the 5090 FE is the way to go and is MSRP or a rare gigabyte/pny model. So far, you, @win32asmguy and @Talon have scored 5090s in our cozy little thread. Interestingly, I had a chance to get a TUF 5090 yesterday. My local MC had two in stock (one normal, one OC) and my boy called me up and told me he was in store with his girlfriend and could pick up both and did I want one of them as his gf could just buy it. I asked which one he was getting and he said the non OC. The OC is $2999.99 + tax = ~$3200. I told him thanks but that's a hard pass but I'll be over to play with his non OC when I get a chance till a properly priced 5090 passes my way. I literally told him, "offer it to tom. He wants one price is no object." He texted me back a few minutes later saying of course tom freaked out with 10 capitalized "YES!!!" in his message. 🤣 I just can't stomach that kind of price. At that price point, I might as well get an Astral and go full hog..... Yeah, the 9800X3D tuned w/ the 5080 I can finally hit some spots where I'm brushing up against 99% GPU utilization in spots the 14900KS was not. One spot is the theatre weekly outside of Dorngal. With the 14900KS at 4k Ultra 10 RT max it routinely sat in the mid to high 80's but yesterday was my first time doing it with the 9800X3D setup and to see my 5080 being pushed to 97-99% even with all that player data (server reset day = busy) was great to see. Cleared the first four raid bosses and while I do run into pockets here and there with sub 99% GPU utilization, the 9800X3D is definitely pushing the 5080 harder and I spent more times than the 14900KS in pockets of 99% utilization. And like I said before, using the Raider and the new BIOS stock on the road w/ a clean install WoW and FO76 ran fantastic especially FO76 which loves that X3D. 6 hour session and me looking over to my wife with a head nod and going, "this thing is solid" Even pushed to ~99%, my fps were ~66-70 over there showing a 5090 would definitely help my fps. With W11 especially, AMD and M$ finally have their core parking pretty tight for gaming and most tests are showing the 9950X3D / 7950X3D properly parks the cores when gaming at all times now. I noticed this last year with my MSI x670e Carbon / 7950X3D that you really no longer needed PL or to just turn off the non X3D CCD in BIOS to play WoW properly anymore. It worked as intended. As much fun as those HEDT chips are, they're no match for AMD, a properly tuned 13th/14th gen i9 or even a properly tuned Ultra 285k for gaming.
  21. Temps look good! You have a lot of headroom for improvement but no way to push it. 😞 I know on the two Asus G18's w/ 13980HX, temps were in the low 80s for multi. Do a single core run and see where your temps go along with your score.
  22. @Papusan Yikes! My cost? $3966 after tax so basically $4k..... Problem is basically zero incentive from Nvidia or AMD to keep prices low as the gaming segment of their revenue continues to be dwarfed by AI and other divisions and resource/fab priority places gamers in the bottom tier now:
  23. Yep, things are proceeding as predicted. April/May things will really shore up. Good to see so many 9070xt's just languishing on eBay. Scalpers under estimated supply big time. $1999.99 or bust is my motto now.
