I guess so yeah I thought you guys were saying the 4090 laptop was a joke because its bga and therefore a waste of money. but hey happens.

I think its a great deal if you keep it for 5 years, otherwise its a easy pass. as for the small desktop not good you need space

Even with MXM graphics and LGA it would be a Joke. Because you get the cheaper AD103 and GDDR6 vram. None 4090 chips is made of AD103 silicon bro ryan. And neither will nvidia use the cheaper GDDR6🙂

12th is really really good well done bro @Papusan

I wont sweat the 4090, im going desktop in what seems late, you and @Mr. Fox jumped off the laptop ship way before me, you guys have reached the shore(prob drinking margaritas and CIGAR.gif.34d901425b6d3b9d9b8804d37e91f132.gif) im still swimming by the boat

@tps3443 was just saying its a good deal performance wise....can you build me a 3090ti desktop screen and all for 2800? probably not and if it has a 1440p screen id be suprised...but hey you guys are the experts and im following suite

Off the top of my head:

gpu 1100

thank you post card for Jensen, draw something nice 5

cpu 700

Arctic LFII AIO 100

Mobo 250

psu 200

ram 200

case 100

monitor 200 (ok, had to check the 1440p thing: https://www.newegg.com/p/15Z-0038-000T1?Description=1440p monitor&cm_re=1440p_monitor-_-15Z-0038-000T1-_-Product )

keyboard and mouse 100

SSD 100

$3055. Sure some compromises would have to be made, but the system would be faster than the $2800 laptop, in addition to being cooler, more robust, upgradeable and repairable. A different class of device basically.

You can potentially cut that spend significantly using second hand parts (although the strategy is not risk free, depending on the source).

Just a follow up on this.

That is actually a 3090Ti Kingpin you shared a benchmark of with a 25,200 graphics score. So I started benching my 3090 Kingpin in comparison to see where it’s at.

I could not get 25,200.. But I did get 24,536 😎. I have not ran 3DMark in ages. I’m actually quite surprised by this run.

Normal 15C daily water temp. 2,235Mhz locked boost and my memory is at 22,950gbps

Nice. What were the GPU temps? Can't see a blue line on the graph with the positive scale there :)

GPU temp was 29C through the test. But, this test was peaking at power levels well over 600-660 watts the entire test. I’m sending additional voltages to the memory and GPU as well.

Get out lol

What's the wattage of your chiller? 2kW or something? What's the coolant temp?

If you bypass the radiator it will get the water at or below 0°C if you wait long enough. The radiator being in the loop actually "heats" the chilled water.

Coolant temp is 15C. Chiller is 1/2HP. Waterflow is key with a chiller. They are designed for large amounts of waterflow, something that little D5’s just aren’t capable of. So it takes several of them to get the job done to provide adequate pressure.

367W, that's interesting. Less power than the power produced by the GPU alone. Then again, my thermodynamics is a bit rusty lol

Awesome setup. Do you have a way to loop a radiator in via a valve or something, or do you just run the chiller all the time?

I don’t use a radiator. Chiller only. Daily water temp is always set to 15C for 24/7/365 year round usage.

Power usage isn’t even that high on the chiller honestly. When it first powers on, it may hit 340 watts for a split second. The power meter barely registers it on screen, and then it settles down to 220 watt sustained while it runs. I know guys with water cooling loops that put out more power running (50+) fans and even more pumps than me LOL.

I am not sure how Brother @tps3443does his, but I have Koolance QDC filling that allow me to disconnect the radiator and route the water through the chiller only and all three D5 pumps, simply bypassing the radiator. It can be changed in a matter of about 5 or 10 seconds.

There you go ^^^ We replied at exactly the same time, LOL.

I do not run my chiller all of the time because it is too hot in my office already, even with my central AC running 24/7. The chiller is always connected and adds additional water capacity (very beneficial) but I only turn the chiller on when benching. Otherwise the heat is unbearable. When my thermostat is set to 70°F my office is usually 75°F and the rest of the house is chilly. If the chiller is running, it heats my office up to 80°F or higher during the summer.

I wish It was a penguin chiller I had instead, which I may go that route. Those are setup like window A/C units. You put it in your window, and install the 1” to 1/4” brass adapters and you are good to go. All of the heat, and even half of the noise go outside of the home.

I have considered running a duct right off of my coil and out of the window or even cut a whole in the floor and install a new vent just for hot air to go in to the crawl space. But, it wouldn’t be very pretty.

That would be really nice, but a window-mounted chiller would not work for me. It would be perfect it if would. My office window is designed in a way it would not work. I would have to replace the window with a different type. Plus, it is visible from the street and my HOA would go berserk and fine me if I had something visible from the street like that. Since you are kind of out in the boondocks, you probably don't have to care about an HOA or obey special rules like that.

@tps3443we should start using high output pumps like these (which is what @johnksssis using last time I saw his setup) instead of weak computer pumps. The cheapest one is about 4 or 5 times more volume than a D5 pump. https://www.penguinchillers.com/product/danner-water-pumps/

Yep, I am highly considering selling my  AACH50 and getting a Penguin 1/2HP HE chiller. I want to mount it in the window so it doesn’t affect my ambient temp in the summer time. Plus, it would be quieter and provide slightly more BTU’s.

I don’t think I’d want their big 1HP model just because of the power consumption is not worth it.

With proper waterflow, 1/2HP HE is all anyone would ever need.

As for the pumps, I have (4) D5’s lol. I am probably gonna mount my 4th one this weekend. But, it is so silly..I would prefer just a larger single pump. Maybe I will hook up my big pool pump and sand filter 🤣 that thing can FLOW! (kidding) It would probably force leaks in my waterblocks lol.

He could just ask Safedisk to loan his "free" Xeon W9-3495X. Or just ask the MB manufacuter partner Asus so he can stay on top.. I'm sure they will deliver. For "free".

You can't compete against "free" binned hardware and custom made firmware/OC software. Even with same HW it doesn't matter.

I have to actually buy another one as my last one broke. I’m using 3 d5 pumps in various locations at the moment.

Those chillers look real nice, but I am still content on the one I bought brand new for 1000 (1HP) dollars on Amazon.

My goodness. My 3090KP is just killing it. This old thing is doing very well!

I was playing Read Dead Redemption 2 the other day on my 4K TV. And I thought my performance was abnormally good, seeing how my minimum fps was 89. Those Nvidia drivers really helped out performance.

16,233 in Port Royal. (This is an easy 28% boost over a stock 3090FE) that is also nearly the same size gap that sits between a RTX4080 and a RTX4090 🤣 and this is all from an overclock.

Pretty insane. What VRAM did EVGA put in there BTW?

19.5gbps Micron modules. With the RTX4090 in stock and affordable, it’s very tempting to upgrade. But, I just don’t feel like I need an upgrade at all. This GPU is just a straight beast in games. It has held up well.

Binned Micron modules. Only Micron offer GDDR6X for Nvidia.

AMD couldn't afford to use this tech for their new and shiny Radeon cards. Profits over maxed performance.

Well, so far, so good. I just installed it a few minutes ago. Memory issues ruled out (job #1) from what I can see. Don't know how far the OC will go on core or memory yet. Hoping a Corsair GPU block will be enroute soon. Haven't peeled any of the plastic off yet.

The only thing I am puzzled about is the OC vBIOS still allows the fans to turn off at idle. So, I am manually setting them because I do not want the fans to ever turn off for any reason. Things get warm at idle without fans running, and I don't need silence.

EVGA must have binned these modules for sure. They overclock like crazy. +1,750 no problems in gaming. I really don’t even remember how high they can go. I want to get a 4090, but then again at 2560x1440 I feel like I’m still enjoying this one pretty well. I feel like if I did have a 4090, my cpu would just run a little warmer and I’d hear a higher pitched squealing noise from my PSU due to more frames. Lol

It has arrived...

image.thumb.png.e2a37e4c9f7f8024db96747dec05b32d.png

I bought @electrosoft's dead 2080 Super. I've been in the talks with NortwestRepair and am trying to arrange a repair with him. He's looking for a decent MXM to PCIe adapter that supports Clevo cards. He seems willing to attempt a repair; that's something I can respect.

I might do some basic troubleshooting with my multimeter, and if all seems well, I might stick it in my P870 and see if I can run a memory test, even though it presumably only gives a black screen. I hope the laptop will POST with it in!

I'm looking forward to getting this thing fixed. I know it's possible, it's really just a matter of how long it will take.

It might boot. When it black screened I didn't realize the motherboard failed too but when ZtecPC got my X170SM-G swapping in a brand new RTX 2080 Super didn't make a difference and it still wouldn't boot / blank screen.

I am not even sure if they re-tested the original RTX 2080 Super with the new motherboard so I would be curious to see what happens.

It would be so cool to see a full power RTX4090 in MXM form factor and the power slider is just turned wayyy down by default so it can stay cool within the limitations of the laptop design. (You could crank it up and burn your house down if you wanted to)
