How do you come into old fashion Win secure mode with F8 when the stupids at Asus use that command for their MB firmare?

Fact it is. lmao.

Im happy with the 3060, but its messed up the desktop got 12gb and mobile 6gb of vram. Im already having issues  having to turn down certain settings for the sole reason being vram. for example in far cry 6 all low 4k I cant use hd textures because it pushes vram upward of 7gb. pity but then again I didn't buy this 2 years ago for 4k gaming, I was gunning for 1080p and its suprising that I game at 4k high/60fps in all my favorite oldies

The F8 command takes effect on the BIOS boot selection menu before the hand-off to the OS.  After the hand-off to the OS it takes effect on the Windows boot selection menu. In both cases it is "boot selection" menu. If you are getting the BIOS boot menu you are pressing the F8 key one or two seconds too soon.

If you have additional boot options items--like another OS or Macrium Reflect Recovery--it will pause on the Windows Boot Manager selection menu for a few seconds. You can set it to "wait for user selection" (my preferred option) and it will sit there forever waiting for you to instruct it what you want it to do.

EVGA also has that pause and wait option available for the BIOS boot menu. I really love that feature and always enable it. It shows me all of the Windows OS boot managers and Linux, and bootable USB drives, and the option to enter the BIOS Setup, and waits for me, the Master of the Universe, to render my decree. It is sinful that not every BIOS has the same option available to enable. It should be mandatory to offer that option.

I know, but what if you want go into secure mode from cold boot? And Asus cater to oc’ers  who try many tweaks. Stupid is the normal. Or maybe I have missed? Punch F8 and you get the Asus way. Why in hell use F8 for firmware options? Why not another key combo?

I opened up the baby HOF. Bad paste job. Not sure if this is from the previous owner or Galax. Temps is quite good but the job is bad

Never heard of secure mode, but for a safe mode there is a few ways. None of which are easier than the desired method but I guess that's the down side to Asus? They might been using that same key since long before windows 10 + advanced startup was a thing.

Bro @Mr. Fox. Maybe you want 3090 ti HOF OC Lab Limited Edition? Yep not the newest cards from current gen but come with a nice Asus Strix  OC 4090 price tag. The elite or chosen one want some cash back after the promotion and points.

Remember this is the Limited Edition Card where only 100 were made. This one is number 4. so close to nr 1. Maybe youfinally have the chance to feel how the elite have it. Nice to have the chance to feel being privileged. Only $2185USD. Hope you don't need to pay for the shipping. and you ebven get a nice suitcase. You may have to pay for everything. Maybe send the bill to your employer 🙂

One thing for sure.... If you are the elite or the chosen one. You don't pay a dime. Smell on it... Only for yooo. I feel I have a better chance in a normal ordinary lottery.

I would love to have this GPU. But I would never pay $2,000+ dollars for it LOLZ. I know they’re super rare. And I like the white PCB as well, with the single sided memory.

More than anything, I would just like to play around with it for a bit and see how it clocks.

I really wish there was a 4090 HOF with the HOF waterblock included or available.

Yep, I mean old fashion legacy mode where you can chose if you etc want go into Win safe mode or do other tasks. Use same F8 key  command on a OC board is damn stupid. They could have changed this for many years ago if they wanted. Can't be that difficult. But they have followed same stupid trend as Microsoft's stupid software engineers. You need do CMD tweaks to have the chance to go into Win leagacy boot menu after coold bot. Microsoft want that you use their crazy new modern way to access it. I hate it when so called smart engineers make useless changes.

Yep, Microsoft treat their desktop OS as a smartphone OS nowadays (maybe the kids demand it or want it, I don't know). And worse it will be. Be you sure!

I think it is a standard, at least with Award AMI BIOS, and not an ASUS fault. All brands I know of use F8. What would be best is for ASUS to do the right thing like EVGA and provide the BIOS option to always show the BIOS boot priority menu at POST if you want to (like I do) and you don't have to press F8 for that. When you press F8 after that it should take you the Windows Boot Manager menu.

Here are the speeds you can expect if you can use it at Gen 5. I can't because I am not willing to sacrifice something else for fluffy SSD benchmark scores. The Apex requires use of the add-in card in the second X16 slot for Gen 5 storage. The M.2 slots on the motherboard are Gen 4. If you install the Gen 5 card in the PCIe X16 slot, then the GPU gets cut down from X16 to X8. How 'bout NO to that. But, the SSD Gen 5 speeds are nice if you don't care about your GPU gets its resources slashed by 50%. [spoiler: T700 review coming soon... stay tuned]

The G.SKILL 48GB DDR5-8000 kit is a good silicon sample. Much better than the defective 48GB DDR5-7200 kit I RMA'd. I have not taken time to do any tuning myself. This is the profile that brother @tps3443uses with his 7200 kit.

cachemem.png

Below is the stock XMP profile with the memory clock bumped from 8000 to 8200 (no other changes). So, I am sure there is some wiggle room for performance tuning, especially that sloppy loose tRAS over 100 clocks. I ran my tRAS at 42 clocks at 8200 and 32 clocks at 8000 on the Dark. I'd like to see that down to at least half what the stock value is. 128 seems absurd.

My MB has gen 5 pcie built in, so I wouldn't need an add in card. Those are impressive numbers for sure! I may get that water block then, as I had a Bykski on my Radeon VII, and it worked well, except it did not come with a back plate.

And you are right, I didnt know they were in Boise!

My motherboard has PCI Gen 5 built in as well but for some reason Asus didn't make that work. Only the two PCIe x16 slots support Gen 5. The m.2 slots do not, unless maybe you have nothing in the x16 slots and are using integrated graphics LOL. Look at your documentation closely. You have to read the fine print in the Asus documentation to find out they kind of slipped us a Mickey on Gen 5 implementation. That said, I'm totally fine running them at Gen 4 speed. It's not going to make any difference in real world normal use.

I am wondering if PCI-E X8@Gen 5 can fully provide the bandwidth for a overclocked RTX4090. I imagine it probably can. That’s one nice advantage to the Z790 Apex. At least both X16 slots are Gen5 capable. So if you do use the expansion card, your bandwidth to the GPU should be just as good.

@Mr. Fox

Maybe you can test this with the 3DMark PCI-E bandwidth feature test. It’s a quick test. And see what Gen5 X16 vs Gen5 X8 provides. It may be identical. You have a 4090, so this would really demonstrate if you lose any frames or bandwidth at all. I think even x8 Gen4 would be enough. I’m seriously curious.

Well, we answered that question, as Brother @tps3443already knows from our text thread. For the benefit of everyone else...

Not only no, but hell no, LOL. HUGE GPU performance hit with PCIe 4.0 X8 versus X16. Fast storage is nice, but not nice enough to sacrifice that. No way, Jose. I will stick with Gen 3 or Gen 4 storage speeds.

For a person that does not really need or care about GPU performance and actually needs fast file transfer speeds more than GPU performance it would be worth it, but that is not me and probably not most people I know that are like me. PCIe Gen 4 NVMe performance is good enough.

There is a major difference between latest Intel vs AM5 chipset. With Intel you can't have it both. It's either full PCIe 5.0 support for GPU or capped. So no point have a dedicated gen 5 M.2 ssd slot for etc gen 5 ssd's. Can't see Asus have made much wrong here with their OC board.

You have a 4090, so this would really demonstrate if you lose any frames or bandwidth at all. I think even x8 Gen4 would be enough. I’m seriously curious.

Useless. All you should care about is the random read write 4k. The high sequential bragging numbers.... How often to you need server functionality on a consumer pc?

And do people really need the fancy and modern CM angled adapters? Why not just buy a big enough PC box? Hmmmmm

You even get an nice short video of the burning disaster .

Vanilla 13900K out from the box. Haven't tuned in the cpu after the latest bios update. Neither have I tuned the cpu for 3DM Fire Strike. Just testing the new old card 🙂

Second one in a row. Maybe CableMod should ship with a free nose clip with the adapters, HaHa

If so.... Would you use it bro @electrosoft while you gaming?😆

More stupid.... Thanks to Nvidia. And yep... Asus out with great ideas

Asus Flaunts GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with M.2 Slots for SSDs

Like many other midrange GPUs these days, Nvidia's AD106 graphics processor only has eight PCIe 4.0 lanes since 15.754 GB/s raw bandwidth provided by eight PCIe lanes is enough for modern GPUs, and eight extra PCIe lanes take too much precious die space495545186_PUKEGREEN.gif.fdab8b1e3d7a7b2cdff6cc7ce487f7c0.gif

Something seemed really wrong with Mr.Fox performance when it was in Gen4 X8 mode, it was far worse than even PCIe Gen 1.0 in that 4090 Bandwidth link.

I have been running DDR5 8800 C40-52-52-52-135 for several hours now for gaming. I’m amazed this is even game stable. No WHEA errors, everything is solid.

I’m seriously impressed with these 48 gig G.Skill 7200 sticks.

Bios 1203 is solid! I couldn’t get 8800 to post before on 0904 bios. Now, 8800 posted very first try. Not only that, but it’s stable. “Stable enough” 🤣

I started out earlier today with 8800 C40-54-54-54-148. And I have been slowly tightening it up a bit.

I just picked up an asus flare rgb cherry mx red switches keyboard for free. Loving it. This is pretty ironic as I told myself never buy asus. I guess technically I didn't but it surprised me how good the keyboard is and makes me wonder if it can possibly get any better.

As for asus I wonder what there keyboard warranty is like. Am I protected from spills..I have to look it up  see what others are saying

Google up their support page. I'm sure you find something there.

Now its MSI turn to say no to 3rd party adapters/cables as offered by CableMod. And I expect the graphics cards serial-nr is registered in their database after your first try to RMA. In short you will be banned from RMA your cards as long nvidia don't come up and force their AIC partners to accept fix the smoked/burned cards. Yep, your card will loose some value in the second hand market. Nice. I wouldn't buy a 1.5 years old car without any warranty. But that's me. Maybe other thinks different.

CableMod adapter melted RTX 4090. MSI not accepting RMA. What next?

And CableMod will never ever bother with your card again if you need send in you grapics cards that fail out in other tasks than burning up with their adapters 🙂 In short.... Their warranty can be useless. But they got your money for the failed angled 12VHPWR adaper. I hate bad deals.

Yeah Im out of luck just 1 year. owell Ive never had a keyboard go and it was technically free.

what keyboard do you guys have, I know theres a thread somewhere in NBT on keyboards. I just can't believe how much better a mechanical keyboard is over a membrane laptop keyboard. I never really cared TBH. I think now a good keyboard can be just as important as a monitor.

Second 13900k or is this your first?

What is the ratio to CM adapters melting versus original adapters?

lol, "stable enough" exactly.

I grow weary of those who want you to pound your hardware to the red line hours on end to prove some mythical level of stability that transcends your own daily needs.
