Off topic here, but possibly of interest. Outlook PRE. Check it out. I just discovered it totally by accident when messing with something else.

For every good and nice thing there are at least several that are not. You guys know how I feel about ASUS garbage software. It's fancy, but extremely broken and will often not even function. This digital feces will install fairly consistently for me on an unmodded crash dummy OS. It is unfortunate that they have made it such a grotesquely bloated piece of trash. If it were not it would actually be nice.

Look how much system resources this piece of crap uses just idle on the desktop. Un. godly. When I used Revo to uninstall it, last time it removed nearly 1500 registry keys. Isn't that just insane? Why can't they give us a good old win32 TurboV Core and bring back the old win32 Aura utility that just works without sucking the life out of everything it soils? They can. Maybe I should rephrase that and ask, why don't they want to give us software that just work? UWP filth sucks. Yes, that is a rhetorical question and we already know the answer is because they are idiots.

Why use a calorie on the bloat. I tested it when I got the Z690 board and uninstalled it right after. I did a clean new Windows install right after. Never more. Yep, I don't use my valuable time on trash. No time for that.

You already know this, but it is actually part of my plot. I believe that in order to validate my contempt for filth I must have a firm basis for the hate and a knowledge of why everyone should hate it equally, and communicate that in such a manner that it will cause disruption, discontent and breed the same strong sentiment in others. That's how you undermine nefarious schemes and overthrow corrupt leaders. You teach others to rebel and lead them into hating the filth as much as you do by exposing them to the foul stench. You can't easily convince sheeple that something is a piece of trash if you haven't been marred or scarred by its trashiness and show them how scummy it is, and make them feel stupid and ashamed for embracing it. Kind of like the importance of knowing your enemy. That makes your adversary easier to exploit and unexpected headshots fired at point blank range leaves no survivors. But, I also know there are some people whose stupidity is so deeply rooted that they just can't be fixed.

im using 16gb of ram in game so I thought if I get 32gb it might use 24gb and ill need at least 10 for windows so 64gb is the obvious answer, not alot of people game at 4k, and what I notice is it uses quite a bit of vram with textures set to high or ultra, medium is fine. but to get any sort of eye candy 16gb system ram coupled with 6gb vram just isn't enough. and overkill might be a good thing kinda like having extra money

posted at the same time as you 😛

I'm using alot of ram, I can't seem to shake the hackers. they do weird stuff like change my languages to spanish. really annoying. but yeah 64gb is 3200mhz ddr4 the timing are a bit looser at 22 and something but overall performance should be close to 16 or 32gb. I'd like to add often times I have youtube running in the background for music while gaming and that doesn't use a great deal of ram but it would be nice to do everything without closing stuff and still have 16gb free.

If you guys game at 4k let me know I think you guys typically game at 1440p I could do the same but I invested in a 4k tv for gaming, hopefully it is overkill as you guys claim.

just did a quick check and tried to show you guys what I'm saying but overlay isn't showing in the pictures.

bascially im using more than 16gb ram just for crysis it said 14487 or something and I know it must be using the page file because of the eventual crash, now if I had 64gb ram im sure instead of the memoryebing dumped on the page file and instead the ram It would stutter but not as bad. kinda like going tfrom 8gb single channel to 16gb dual channel. Or I have no clue lol

No current games are going to use over 16GBs of RAM unless its badly optimized 2023 games like Hogwarts Legacy for an example which requires having more 16GBs of RAM or it'll stutter like mad. 64GBs of RAM is a overkill unless you're doing CAD work or even 4k-8k video editing. After upgrading to 32GBs of RAM i havent noticed any FPS increases in games but it performs more smoothly plus i dont have to worry about closing firefox everytime i load up a game or something that uses almost all of my RAM.

In short... You only hire the games. You don't own them. So why does some of the gamers say they own this and this game? Are they damn stupid? They own nothing bro @Mr. Fox Only the air they breathe in.

Steam forcing updates to Win 10/11 to play games - do you actually "own" games bought through Steam?

Yeah because steam runs on Chromium which is dropping Windows 7/8.1 support. Still sucks though....

Congrats on the pick up and that is the best price out there for all 6950XT cards and matches the pricing on the Red Devil 6950XT but that's out of stock (I would have picked up the Asrock anyhow). Toss in a free $100 game code and that's win win all around.

After hemming and hawing and going through so many pricing scenarios, I ended up picking up a Powercolor Fighter 6700XT from Amazon for Prime Day. They are offering 7% back on the Prime Visa card for slow shipping so it won't ship out and be delivered till next week but that gives me time to check on other deals and cancel if needed so after tax and 7% back my total cost was ~$298. Toss in a $100 game code (~$107 after tax) and my net cost for the card is ~$191.

I spend a lot of time doing performance comparisons with everything from the 6600 up to the 6800xt/4060ti and the 6700xt at that price point made the most sense especially with the 6700xt including the Premium edition of Starfield. That basically knocked every Nvidia potential out of running even moreso than before.

I was going to pick up an MSI 6750xt but it was ~$45 more when everything was said and done for basically the same performance. I'll still keep an eye on them just in case.

thats an absolute steal of a deal, and the 6700xt is basically recommended as the card to get in any and all price/perf. comparisons currently for gpus. its an overall market for value buyers, so luckily we at least still have those previous gen cards around. lets see how long stock will last though...

The previous idea was a 4k 144hz portable system with a FE 4090. Display was ~$500 along with bulky (~27") and GPU $1600. I switched up to a 22" 1080p 144hz portable display for $85 after tax and now the 6700XT net $191. I, ah, had a change of heart financially. 😁 I plan on playing Starfield so a win win.

As for DDR5, dual rank > single rank but single rank scales so much better that for a platform like Intel those frequency gains outweigh any advantages dual rank would have. The impact of DR isn't as great as DDR4 but it still provides an advantage.

Luckily AM5 is capped to realistically 6000 +/- 400 depending on IMC and DR/SR status.

Since our IMCs are capped, we can have it all: Optimal frequency (6000), timings and DR.  I ended up with a pair of A-die DR 2x32GB G.skill sticks with great timings at 6000. If this were Intel, I'd be looking for SR sticks that can do 7600+. Those same DR A-die sticks rockin out on my AM5 give up the ghost at 7000 on my MSI Z790i Edge w/ 13900KS. I already booted 8200 SR sticks on it a week or so ago testing some GEIL 8000 rated sticks.

Im not sure the reason why but during crysis remastered sessions im breaking 15gb of ram and the system uses 9gb so 24gb total. I don't think this is normal, but it is what it is. only way to lower this is with low textures, and still it uses 10gb, all at 4k.

my order has shipped yeah, nothing says perfecto like free.

I know for a fact 64gb is overkill, better to have too much than not enough.

Yep. If you don't own your own games... Why pay huge overprice for the graphics cards? Why not just buy a cheap console for your hired games?

Given these high hardware prices I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of PC gamers start considering the various game consoles. Microsoft's Xbox Series S sells for $300, the Sony PS5 Digital for $400 - less than most graphics cards. Both will give you a first-class gaming experience without shader compilation stutters and other PC port troubles.

Zotac GeForce RTX 4070 AMP Airo Review techpowerup.com

Compared to last generation's RTX 3070, the performance uplift is 28%—a relatively small gen-over-gen gain (RTX 4090: +61%, RTX 4080: +50%, RTX 4070 Ti: +46%).

If you compare the 20% price increase with the 28% performance uplift over previous gen then you will have a measly performance gain around 8% for same amount money. Nice. How does this stands out vs the performance gain you get with 4060 and 4060Ti over its predecessors?

Does this backplate looks like a shoe sole? Awful design.

The sailing shoe backplate match the Zotac boat designed card as hands in gloves 🙂

You will probably dial those in and get amazing timings as these newer revs are getting better and better as DDR5 picks up steam.

AMD Gear 2 (aka gear 4 for Intel) might hit a motherboard limitation before the memory even gets close to giving up the ghost. It would also give us some indicator for future AMD chips on older rev boards if they support higher IMC frequencies.

Diablo IV was using 20GB of system memory AND 20GB of VRAM at one point when I was playing in 4k. You can never have enough unless the memory upgrade severely compromises frequency and timings.

14th gen refresh is shaping up nicely.

Lower tier chips are getting a little bit of both (extra cores and frequency)

14900k = 13900KS

Wonder if they'll have a 14900KS down the line? The ultimate of ultimate binned.

This feels a touch like Skylake stretching. 🙂

I am good with that. I really liked how long it lasted with Skylake and Skylake X. Sometimes (usually) stability and continuity are more valuable than change purely for the sake of change. I enjoy improvements to existing technology as much or more than I do introduction of new technology. It was truly amazing how much performance Intel milked from 14nm over time. I know a lot of people were bothered by it, but I was not. It made for extremely reliable products.  It took what felt like forever for AMD to catch up and they (Intel) moved to 12nm when they had to do so to maintain their performance crown.

now that I believe, Most people are gaming at 1440p or 1080p and don't see much ram being used especially if they dont have a 16gb vram card. I think having 64gb is perfect, ill be set for a few years as I decided my next computer will be a desktop and not for another 3-4 years. by then 64gb will be the new 16gb..

another deciding factor is resale value, I noticed alot of people are buying decent laptops and upgrading ram and storage then selling the laptop for triple or quadruple the price. suckers are born everyday.

@Papusan When you're right, you're right. Brother Pap has been preaching almost all of the adapters out there are trash. Now you got Jay, always a few days late, going on and on about it. He also threw a small jab at GamersNexus.

He still don't grasp it. I even posted this below in the comments section in his previous live stram video.... Yet he talk mostly about 3 dimpe Astron terminals. Only a very very few cable vendors/PSU manufacturers f use 3 dimple or 4 spring NTK terminals.

What you think happen if you use the cheaper 2 dimple terminals and the 12VHPWR connector start wiggle out from the pins on the GPU connector? When power connectors with two dimple terminal design start wiggle slightly out from the GPU connector (they will due heat fluctations), you risk that one or more of the pins in the GPU connector will only have contact with 1x 2 dimple (one on each side inside the terminal connector). Yep in worst case the only connection for the current will go via one wimpy dimple to the pins. The resistance in the connectors will increase and go through the roof. Poof... Fire and melting.

I know for the fact that obtaining real Astron 3 dimple / 4 spring NTK terminals for the production is more difficult for the vendors/PSU manufacturers. Maybe higher costs for those is one of the resons for cheaping out. But the loosers is always the consumers.

CableMod in-house terminals are 2 dimple design. Why all the talk about they using 3 dimple designed terminals? And Corsair as well use terminals with two dimple design for their 12VHPWR cables(Corsair use two different vendors). As a side note. 99% of the melted 12VHPWR connectors is with the angled adapters. Yet, the cables with straight and angled 90 degreees connectors use exactly the same in-house 2 dimple terminals. And the sales numbers is bigger for their custom 12VHPWR cables. This is confirmed by CableMod. Then do your math what's the problem.

You will probably dial those in and get amazing timings as these newer revs are getting better and better as DDR5 picks up steam.

AMD Gear 2 (aka gear 4 for Intel) might hit a motherboard limitation before the memory even gets close to giving up the ghost. It would also give us some indicator for future AMD chips on older rev boards if they support higher IMC frequencies.

oh i sure hope i dont hit a mobo limitation too soon, but rather keep hitting CPU IMC and DIMM bottlenecks. i mean, i paid more than enough for the Asus X670E Extreme to be able and properly pull it forward while upgrading 😛 so far its looking good, only the IMC holding us back.

It will be fun to see where certified 8000 sticks go on your board to test the CPU but more importantly to see what that memory slots can do. Now you've piqued my curiosity. I might go in there and change gears and see where these DR A-die's decide to give up the ghost on my MSI.

----

I ended up picking up Winasm's NH55 (as predicted over a year ago) and I plan on holding onto it for quite some time as it is the true last DTR'esque laptop with interchangeable components sans GPU.

I did drop this choice SP115 13900ks in there just to see but as expected a BIOS updated is needed. If you could, um, get Prema on a CPU update and get that over to me that would be swell. 😁

I tested the 13900KS on my Z690 D4 with motherboard constraints to simulate the laptop (140w + -0.100 UV) comparing it to my two 12900k chips with the same conditions I used to pre-qualify for NH55 use (it also let me quickly realize the binned 12900k from Winasm was running abnormally hot and a delid showed the STIM was missing from around one side) and the SP115 13900KS was popping out ~34k in CB23 even constrained to 140w w/ a UV.

Down the line, I'd love to eventually move that into the NH55 with a proper delid and really let it flex but some Prema love would be required.

I'll be updating the NH55 thread with results once I relid this 12900k. My conformal coating decided to crack and leak everywhere on my shelf so I had to order another bottle.

spent my coffee money on a laptop cooler(its awful) it lowers temps by 1c but allows the cpu to run at a faster speed. so I ran r23 my old high was 11400 I got 1000 more points this time around so I guess the 30 bucks was worth it.

Screenshot-8.png

returned the cooler. I needed something. it was terrible anyways bestbuys brand name generic cooler. I think im going to buy honeywell thermal pads and get london drugs to install it as if i mess something up im to blame and not covered. they screw up I get a new laptop lol....sinister I know.

I wish there was a mini AC unit that one could buy to blow on a laptop. Mr Fox had a pretty cool setup with the vents from a AC unit. which reminds me, I need to get that NUC if its still available. I might get money on the 21st, some climate action incentive payment everyone gets in alberta its lke 221. I get a double payment as I don't usually collect it due to stock trading taxes ect.

14th gen will actually bring comparable performance uplift and a greater efficiency uplift compared to 12th to 13th gen. The digital voltage regulator allegedly does quite a lot.

70 points lower without the laptop cooling pad. I actually thought it helped but in the big scheme of things it did nothing

windows 10 definitely performs better than 11, but thats been established. I am out of ideas on how to get in the top 10.

Try take off the bottom cover so the Cpu can breathe. And see if you can undervolt the GPU so the Cpu can get some of the thermal headroom from the GPU heatsink/grills. Hope you can disable iGPU and let the nvidia GPU render the screen.  If you have an AC near then let the fans get some of the cold air.
