Alright, that's fairly arid. I wonder if that desert dust also plays some role - probably not, since silica is an insulator.

I don't know about the dust. I guess it can be electrically charged, but it probably contains particles of things other than silica (sand) that are conductive. When it gets this hot and dry, one can let their imagination run wild about what kind of airborne particles there are beside your typical dust and pollen.

Yep, as you said - dust can get electrostatically charged, particularly in presence of wind or a dust storm:

my parents live in a desert. and when I visit them the dust isn't an issue, but the static electricity is. I get zapped everytime I turn the lights on or off. as for computers, never had an issue. I just can't see it shorting a computer but you never know

No that GPU score is so high because it's shunt modded. It has absolutely nothing to do with stock power at all. All 4090 laptop will happily sit at 175w TGP which is the max allowed through any vendor (except tongfang chassis that use a built in shunt). All 4090 laptops will happily sit at 175w in games/benchmarks.

This is the BEST RTX 4090 Laptop (shunted of course) and i9 13900HX. It curb stomps that score. Legion 7i Pro Gen 8 beast mode.

This is interesting. Remember not that long ago, the 12900KS was the performance king for CPU overclocking. The 13700K/KF has been called things like 12900KS on steroids or a golden 12900KS. Seems like it is true. The core counts are the same. Memory overclocking on 13th Gen is definitely better. This is a pretty nice generational bump from the best of prior generation to the run-of-the-mill/nothing to write home about consumer CPU released the following generation.

Here is my best recorded Cinebench R23 score. 31711 points

12900KS - 5.5GHz all P-cores, 4.3GHz all E-cores, using 1.490 vCore - 100°C after delid

Max stable memory overclock 6800

Now... compare this to 13700K, no delid (yet)

13700KF - 5.6GHz all P-cores, 4.5GHz all E-cores, using 1.390V - 91°C without delid

Memory overclock 8000 (max stable unknown - haven't tested higher yet)

Do you notice a difference in daily usage having a 6ghz 13 gen cpu vs a 9th gen 4ghz cpu. I remember owning a sager with windows 7 and im pretty sure if memory serves me correctly it was faster or as fast as my current laptop but 8 years later, sometimes I wonder why I even bother upgrading

If you mean web browsing, checking email, using Micro$lop Office, etc. Nope.

If you mean gaming, I'm not sure. I've not bothered to check all that closely. Probably a little different, maybe more than a little, but you'd probably have to measure it deliberately to be massively aware of it. I know that if I play games on my turdbook and don't pay attention to anything else other than playing the game it doesn't seem remarkably different in most titles as long as the framerate stays high enough to keep everything feeling smooth and fluid. If I start measuring then it's definitely much slower. After measuring it also makes you feel disappointed. But, it feels OK while playing on the turdbook as long as you are not ruining it by measuring. (That's why consoles are successful, LOL.)

If you mean overclocked benching, then hell yeah. Massive difference. And, because you are measuring, any kind of performance downgrade from what you have seen with better hardware is terribly disappointing.

sorry for not clarifying but ironically I meant in general for everyday use but that depends on what your doing. I was thinking like opening apps/files loading web pages/startup time/ect. I think upgrading cpu every 4 years and gpu every 5 years is worth it, but I have the habit of upgrading every two years. was thinking whats the point, 2023 games or 2022 games like sniper elite 5 look great but overall the look is fake  and not a huge 17 year jump you would expect with that amount of elapsed time.

when I was younger I had a sega genesis and it was 2d, then i had a playstation it was 3d and had textures and polygons it was a big big jump in 5 or so years, then I had a dreamcast and that was another huge bump with shenmue 1 and 2. once again 5 years. now I load up halflife 2 from 2005 and more than 15 years later (3 gens) it still looks ok or good by todays standards. no major advancements. thats just my opinion of course, but I honestly think half life 2 and crysis one still look good.

ill show you what i mean, in pictures(1000 words).hang on

2022 may

this should look 100 percent like a video capture of real life. basically the pinnacle of graphics

2022.png

2007 15 years old, should by comparison look terrible in comparison

2007.png

20072.png

15 flippin years of progress for what, slightly better textures and to put salt on the womb worse lighting quality and less complex geometry.(not always but overall similar)

in a candid shot its impossible to tell which is from 15 years in the future.

heres a sega game vs a xbox one game 15 year gap

now guess which is 15 years older

SI-Wii-VC-Super-Hang-On.jpg

1.jpg

and in forums and in real life when I have a good point(my opinion). people argue without facts or descent reasoning. it just gets shrugged off.

I have the Zotac 980 Ti Amp. Extreme. A damn good card, but I have a Galax 980Ti HOF I'm keen get on the used market (found one here home). Not sure it will OC better than what I already have but I  like the HOF cards. And I'm a collector on older cards. So why not? 🙂 $150 but I'm sure I can sell it back in the used market for the same or more.

@Papusanbro don't you always preach newer is always better, haha. I feel grumpy, mad at everything lol. computer is running slower after removing like 100 processes. benchmarks showing lower scores with a debloated windows 10 vs stock windows 11. haha thanks for that, as grumpy as I am that made me laugh. yeah thats true, but I remember @Papusanand @Mr. Fox back in the day when they benchmarked laptops, they were always tops along with johnksss, and @Prema. their scores are still there. I flashed my vbios to 140w and its working but the performance gain was lost with a install of windows 10 and for the life of me can't get my stock timespy score back to 9300 overall. cpu is down and gpu is down 8 percent.

well i for one sure as heck hope that they actually DO improve something between gens, even if based on core count alone it would seem like the same product 🙂 although i jumped on the AM5 wagon personally, im still following the socket 1700 intel cpus closely fpr my lady`s machine. guess how happy i was to hear that 14th gen is still on the same socket, mwahaha. let's see how far we can take Clevo's last upgradeable laptop before they went full on BGA.... 😛

Im pretty sure its just how nvidias newish drivers interact with older gpus,  Overclocks don't stick, you have to use L key in afterburner to get any overclock. I guess it doesnt matter, I didn't get the choosen ones lottery sample so I will not be topping 9500 in time spy, and 30th in FS ultra isn't bad considering all things. now its time to setup for gaming, I think undervolting then overclocking the undervolt is more practical, lowers temps increases performance and extends laptop life. For desktops its all about the Hz.

Once I get my greezy hands on a desktop i'll start benching again. also thanks for all the help over the months.

The Liquid X wasn't as good as the HOF. I returned it due trash vram. The HOF can do up to up to 3240 depending on benchmarks. But usually hower around 3090-3130 and 1525MHz for vram (or +1700 in MSI Afterburner). Depending on temps. A GPU waterblock in the custom loop would probably give two bin higher clocks.

1080P

From what I know... Only a few selected have the 1000w vbios and the Galax NVVDD Tool for RTX 4090. The elite/choosen one get them via best friends or directly from Galax. I still try look after it.

Regarding the dual 16 pin connector. It helps a lot to avoid the melt hell as you can see below. The load/current will be balanced between two connectors and if and when I get the XOC tool and vbios I expect less chance for melted connectors  with power consumption above 700W🙂

When you're pushing the HOF, how is the pull distributed across the dual connectors? Evenly? One favored over the other?

With the 666w BIOS and pushed to 1.10v your HOF clocks almost identical to my Suprim except I clock a bit higher on VRAM.

There were some over on OCN saying the newer Nvidia drivers let them push their memory higher. I haven't given it a whirl yet to see but it looked like not much came of that.

You should hunt down the 1000w+ vBIOS and attach TWO cable mod adapters for double trouble!  FAFO in full effect! 😅

3240 is damn impressive, i can only go up to 3120 with my suprim X (air) before it settles down around 3045-3060 after heat soaking. vRAM is about the same though at around 1500.

yeah so far so good with my seasonic cable, no melting 🙂 *knocking on wood*

I haven't checked. Not sure the info will be fully correct in software. The best would probably be measure each of the two 12VHPWR cables under load.

I would love have the Galax 1000w vbios and their XOC tool for easy voltage control but I will avoid anything that smells CableMod's connectors😁 Cable or angled adapter... They still use same in-house 2-dimple terminals. Or 50% less dimples than the Nvidia pigtail adapter. Is less more or less @ryan?😬

all I know is what I know, and I know for a fact newer is 100 better every single time. Im buying a new 3060 laptop because I know it will be better, its newer and without thinking I know it will perform better...just because.

I can push the VRAM to +1650-1700 depending on the benchmark on my Suprim X. If a heavily ray-traced title +1650.

@ryan - did you install Zorin? These (and many others) run fantastic on Linux with Steam using Proton Experimental.
