Volt mod it

I'm probably going to volt mod and shunt mod it. Just got to take time to do the research how and then find the time to do it. Between work (my day job) and product reviews I don't have a lot of spare time right now. I probably need to start passing up some of the review opportunities and take a few days of vacation to get this done.

4090 is wickedly powerful, but it needs about 1.300V to get jolted out of it semi-comatose sissy gamerboy operating mode.

its similar to laptop variants, I had the 115w 3060 and compared to other 3060s it was severely gimped. updated vbios to 140w and the performance jumped up 10 percent, just enough to go from 50s to low 60s. I think its ironic how nvidia can create absolute monsters and then right after they gimp them. You would think it would be a better(newer) idea to push the envelope and not gimp the cards and in turn more people would be upgrading versus staying on their 3060tis/1060s because the performance per dollar would justify the purchase.  And if they are going to gimp for other reasons(heat) they should lower their prices, then again alot of it has to do with competition or lack thereof.  Consumers should have a voice, we are screaming but they have better (newer) ear plugs in(ignorance/greed)

They don't care. They know people are going to buy their stuff because it's better than the alternative, not because it's good in its own right. They meter performance so they can sell you a minor variation of the same GPU later that performs better because of firmware and driver witchcraft, not because they released something more special.

@electrosoft Will you still try out your CM adapter replacement or have you asked for the v1.1 ? And how smart.... A re-call would destroy profits and reputation @Rage Set Better send out an email with coupon code so you can get vr.1.1 for free. Cheaper as well.

I'm more than good with the tentacled monster in there. No need for the adapter except for aesthetics.....

But if they want to send me a 1.1 sure....why not? 😆

It really is pitiful how we are forced into choosing a side(amd/nvidia) whereas nvidia has frame generation and dlss, amd FSR. I remember a lawsuit against microsoft for having a monopoly with OS's. and what NVidia is doing is not that different, the contrast is very dim. We need competition between the two sides but not with gimmicks like frame generation that improve framerates but also latency making it essentially pointless and causing the masses to choose nvidia under false assumptions. As for laptops and IMHO im done. I just  benchmarked my laptop and compared to the 3060 desktop top scores, even with a bios mod im not even close! Iv'e found out where laptops in 2023 should be placed

When you finally kick laptops to the curb, I doubt you will have any regrets. I now have zero interest in wasting my money on one. I wouldn't even want to if the socketed CPU and MXM Clevo beasts returned. I don't want to waste my money on overpriced compromised trash. Laptops are a compromised, no matter how they are made. They will always be an inferior option. They have a place and they fill a need, and the best approach is to attend to that in the cheapest way possible. There is no such thing as a "desktop replacement" laptop.

Rumor: Nvidia scrapped RTX 4090 Ti plans

Why Nvidia chose to scrap the RTX 4090 Ti is unknown, but it is speculated that the decision was made because Nvidia simply does not need to launch a new powerful graphics card.

The question above... WHY Nvidia does this (if the rumors are correct).

Because of the the RTX 5000 cards (nvidia will take an Intel this time with minor uplift in performance). With a near maxed out ADA die, then the difference between 4090Ti and next gen 5090 would be quite low. And with the rumors of 512-bit memory bus + no 4090Ti we will see an ok performance uptlift from ADA to ADA Next. The difference would be minimal with same mem bus and with 4090Ti in the playfield.

Maybe Nvidia also will do the same for 5060 and 5060Ti? Bump up the mem bus back from the wimpy 128 bit castration back to the normal? Maybe ADA Next isn't the big performance uplift people hoped for?

Then you have AMD... They are not so keen compete in performance and take the performance crown. Only on the prices. Closest possible to Nvidia.

The red team fills out the Radeon RX 7000 series with the RX 7900 GRE, which beats Nvidia's Geforce RTX 4070 on the fingers but at the same price.

Then why spend much of your resources on the gamer-boys if you can have it both?

Nvidia's AI GPUs Are Selling for up to $70,000 in China

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Isn't it cute. If you need do an RMA you may be stuck with a less pleasant 4090 graphics card as outcome. Nice with new revision of silicon. Yep, silicon lottery have finally got an new meaning. New or newer is always better bro @ryan🙃

Maybe payback time or a nice helping hand from Nvidia. Lower the max voltage will lower the max power consumption so it match a fix for the smoke hell with 4090s. Great. I knew we would get some sorts of a fix from nvidia, LOOL

From overclock.net

If it's any help here's the two BIOS from my 4090 Suprim X which has the 1.070 voltage limit, might be interesting to know if you can flash other BIOS between the newer cards with the 1.070 limit. I could not flash older Suprim or other older 4090 BIOS (tried 666W BIOS that I had on my previous SuprimX), got same errors as previously stated.

Yep, Nvidia don't need to worry about competition. And hence they can continue screw own customers. And F. Azor fits very well into this AMD tragedy.

Well it would a race to the thermal bottom bringing out a 7950xtx which still couldn't compete overall with the 4090.

With the 7900xtx we know it is at least the full fat die unlike Nvidia. It scales very well but takes 600w+ to get it anywhere near a stock 4090 which just overall so far outpaces every other consumer grade GPU this generation.

Good thing as on Nvidia's side we saw that monstrous cooler prototype and potential issues. Nvidia just decided to double down on their corporate customers who are this gen's maybe kinda, sorta crypto equivalent on the top end if reports are correct about chip allocations and Nvidia slowing 4090 production. I never expected a 4090ti this generation but you never know. They may introduce one at the tail end of this cycle late 2024 to clear out dies if they have them but at that point you just wait for the 5090.

hm i hope that doesnt hold true. got the feeling that AMD is getting comfy being in second place, its a safe haven and easier than being top dog. underdog always gets extra leeway and additional fan support. they might need a few more years to grow properly before taking the fight to nvidia properly? lets see...

This is the ultimate choice between pest and cholera. +1200$ is what he can afford and all you'll get is a huge overpriced 4080. Previous gen xx80 Nvidia graphics cards was $699 without scalpers/miners. All this sadness because AMD couldn't deliver, LOOL

Yes, both Nvidia and AMD have failed hard here. Not sure who's the worst of them. Overpriced and not working or even more overpriced but just works.

I had some problems with my rx 7900 xtx, and i sent it back, now i'm planning to buy an nvidia GPU, because their driver support is way better compared to the AMD rx 7000 Series. My PC is pretty High End just for Gaming and i need an appropriate Graphics Card. I can spend roughly 1200€ on the GPU, i want it to be barely audible while playing games, and i'm not planning on overclocking it.

yeah its funny, saw soooo many comments related to "crazy about alienware as a kid" but now realizing theyre just cheap plastic trash. i felt the same, back in the late 90s, early 2000s i wouldve given both legs for an alienware system. now we all know better 😅

To be fair, they were not always horrible garbage peddlers.Things started circling the drain with Haswell machines due their half-hearted and half-assed effort and things have gotten steadily worse since. I have no reservation in saying that I believe they are incapable of doing anything correctly where high performance computers are concerned. The only thing they do somewhat well is business machines, but even those systems have kooties.

This is the ultimate choice between pest and cholera. +1200$ is what he can afford and all you'll get is a huge overpriced 4080. Previous gen xx80 Nvidia graphics cards was $699 without scalpers/miners. All this sadness because AMD couldn't deliver, LOOL

Welp...

In the case of something like that handheld hunk of junk, PC stands for "poopy crap" LoL. I think you could rattle-can a piece of died up dog dung with white Krylon and label it "gaming" and the kiddos would be lined up for a city block waiting to get their hands on it.

I just thought of something that might be kind of cool. Not sure if anyone would be into it though.

What about setting up a zoom video call with the Overclock thread guys every now and then? Anything goes, type call. Just to shoot the S**t, or talk about new and interesting things?

I don't know, it just popped in my head a second ago....

And Pcgamer.com wasn't very pleased with the new Alienware deskbox look. Real Gamer-kids want much more bling bling and more glossy plastic made in weird shaped cheapo boxes... What's the point buy an Dell Alienware desktop over their Dell XPX desktop models? And if you want the better tiers of nvidia cards you need to go with the vanilla Dell XPS model, LOOL What a failiure for Alienware as the gamer-kids prefered gaming brand.

Indeed, the R16 offers exactly the same 25.2 liter internal volume as its predecessor and we believe the actual metal frame is the same with both systems. It's just the external plastic cladding that's changed.

In short, the mere existence of Alienware PCs made the world a more interesting place. Well, not any more. Alienware's assimilation by the Dell corporate collective is now complete. The latest Alienware Aurora R16 has arrived and it's a generic mid-sized box.

More to the point, what you now have is a generic looking box with Dell-Alienware style proprietary components that make future upgrades tricky. Kinda the worst of both worlds.

Nice BISO BISO video vlog with EVGA and his trip for OCing GPUs. Another nice send off for EVGA.

What I like is he made the team by buying a retail edition 3000 series card and destroying everybody.
