What's the problem here? Put two 8-pins as cons. What's wrong with today's tech reviewers bro @Mr. Fox ? If it was dobbel up with RGB puke on the card or more fancy colors on the shroud it would probably come on the Pros side of bottom line list.

Why is it so bad balancing the load between two PCIe power connectors vs  limiting it down to a single 8-pin power rail? Not all MB as etc the Apex have implemented a third 8-pin on the MB to feed it with power for all new fancy power charging features.

Speaking of two 8-pins, which there is nothing wrong with whatsoever. Or, three, or four of them.

It arrived. Here is a quick stock run before I leave town for 4 days, LOL. See you guys when I get back.

I am happy to find that RGB adjustments seem to be permanently saved to the GPU. It arrived with green LEDs turned on. I installed Gigabutt Control Center on my trash OS to change to white and it has survived multiple reboots and BIOS changes. It stays white no matter what OS is loaded. This should be a legal requirement for all products with RGB lighting. It is totally sinful and unacceptable that stupid expensive motherboards like the Apex, Encore and all the others from ASUS lack this important feature.

Hey! You should mount the Encore ram fan on the motherboard and reverse its orientation. It will blow air on the back of your new 2080Ti. That little fan at 100% is actually very very powerful. It’s actually more powerful than some 120mm fans I own 😂 and it looks clean and hidden. It works great for the backside of GPU’s.

That small ROG ram fan will surprise you.😁

@Mr. Fox Speaking of legal requirements, I think all motherboards present in all devices should be required by law to have a dual BIOS. Ones that don't should never be sold.

I had a bit of a scare today when flashing a BIOS update on my Lenovo Legion Go. The device stupidly decided to shut off in the middle of the update. and the power button turned red. I got freaked out for a second but remembered I read somewhere before I got the device that it had a dual BIOS, so I powered it on and off a few times until something showed on the screen again, and then the update restarted and completed successfully the second time around.

This is the first case of me ever seeing a dual BIOS in a handheld, which makes it pretty special in that regard. Had it been something like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally, I'd have been screwed. Good thing Lenovo had the foresight to include a dual BIOS in their handheld.

Even more important nowadays because Microsoft is damn keen helping the OEMs to push out bios updates if you don't want or not via their own update servers. Even the retards at Asus prefer that Microsoft update your bios. If it's oc'd to the moon doesn't matter. And the cherry on top... You get old bios versions that don't support your brand new Cpu. Dual bios is a must nowadays. And one of the reasons I don't want any of the FE models from Nvidia is because you don't get dual bios rom. Too expensive or Nvidia know what you will use it for.

Has anyone else encountered an issue where touch input on a touchscreen won't register if the screen is running below its native refresh rate? If so, how did you resolve it?

It never ceases to amaze me the vast amount of weirdo issues that pop up with hardware and software. As a software engineer and game dev, I see these things happen all the time, and I exect them to pop up very frequently.

Here in TN it's the coldest it will probably get for the rest of winter. I plan on taking the Ranger outside with the Cicichen heatsink and see how the 4930mx does.

4080 Super with a $200 price drop and more performance? Yes please. It went from being the laughing stock of the 4000 series to now just being mildly annoying but a good buy especially compared to the 7900xtx (unless you need 24GB of VRAM).

And don't be surprised if we will see the flagship 4080 OC models at the old $1199 price tag or above. That's +$200 premium.

Remember there is huge shortage of 4090's. Some want the flagship cards so whats better than 4080 Super nowadays?  Asus know it. The same do all the other OEMs.

I hope this is just a bad April fools Joke. But we are still only in January.

£1,350... That's only $1,718.21 United States Dollar. But this is included the U.K Tax nightmare (still lower than here home).

Is 40% price premium acceptable for the higher end SKUs? That would mean a higher end 4090 OC card would be priced at... $2238 as lowest price. Not far from todays prices for 4090's. If you cand find some.

Yes, it’s very clean when mounted to the motherboard, just make sure you set it to 100% in the bios. It has its own designated PWM plug right on the motherboard.

I’m excited to get one! I’m probably just going to grab a 4080 Super FE if I can get so lucky. I’m selling my 3090 KP HC. And I’m genuinely excited to try another GPU. I just hope I can acquire a 4080 Super on launch day. I feel like if I don’t acquire one I’ll end up having to spend more money on a used 4090 instead. And I really don’t want to exceed the $999 budget because it kinda defeats the purpose. I really just want the new frame gen features, slightly better performance, on something more efficient.

ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4080 SUPER priced at £1,350 in the UK, 40% above NVIDIA MSRP
https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-rog-strix-rtx-4080-super-priced-at-1350-in-the-uk-40-above-nvidia-msrp

China and nvidia is the big devil in this mess. + the scalpers that try grab cards for the Chineese market.

Thats the ASUS "Premium" tax, pay the name tax and later when you need to RMA it, curse them. You can get from other producers at MSRP Price or close. Dont need to pay Asus for their stupid Strix Name..

We can talk more about premium. Premium has to be today's word. Keen on helping Microsoft to pay their bill? It's only $20 USD per month @Mr. Fox Or $240 USD per year. I'm not so lucky... Only $300 with the dreaded and forced tax. Will I pay for this? Nope.

I wonder how much nagging we will see in Windows 10/11......

That is a worrying reference in this context since dragons generally breathe fire under stress 😂

BTW speaking of our “friends” at NVidia:

China's military and government acquire Nvidia chips despite US ban

I'm shocked that China was able to acquire Nvidia chips despite the ban.....absolutely in shock I say!

We can throw all the tariffs and bans we want at China but with so many channels available for acquiring Nvidia hardware, it is basically impossible to stop them from getting what they want.

Truly, the only way to hurt China is economically at this point, and that ship is slowly but surely changing course as we (and other countries) start to look beyond optimal profitability and move manufacturing facilities to other countries.

We have to do what countries did to Japan economically decades ago but on a much grander scale as China potentially presents a much greater threat especially with Taiwan.

I never judge the market on Asus and their ridiculous premium price mark ups. Until consumers get it out of their heads that "Asus equals premium brand" there will continue to be a segment that will pay that massive markup on their products when they really don't deliver more than MSI and some others.

NVIDIA call it "what the market bears" but that is not it at all. It's a science figuring out how much customers are willing to be screwed. Knowing when they are going to pull their pants up and walk away is key. They also need to know how many are fundamentally stupid.

I think maybe we should stop worrying about China's technical capabilities and focus on something more effective and easier to control. Something like cutting off their food and crude oil supply and banning travel into China or travel out of China. They can't eat silicon or AI. They need fuel to function. In an absence of fuel there is no production. Starving enemies that lack the  essentials needed to sustain life are seldom a threat. Combine that with banning the purchase and import of products that originate in China, refusal to share any knowledge or resources, and you neutralize the threat. No food + no exports + no imports + no money to buy things = third world poverty and famine.
