PS. The forum is now almost useless to use. So slow and laggy that this can't be used. Never seen it this slow @Reciever

It's very sluggish for me as well.

The Lian Li design team must have been intoxicated when they designed this. Perhaps the most illogical design I can remember. I wouldn't touch this abortion it with a 10-foot pole. Truly idiotic design.

Disgusting! But people will buy it. Because it's a Lian Li product.

I expanded on your thoughts a little bit (above).

It is truly disgusting. It is not only barely large enough for a basic build, whether air or water cooled, but it is extremely limiting in more ways than I care to count. This product is for the person that values weird aesthetics and form more than flexibility and function. It smells like the same substance that makes turdbooks so sucky. This engineering abortion is more limiting than my SFF build that is half the size.

A glimpse into next gen Intel....

Intel make ready for more of the baby cores in consumer (mainstream) chips in the future. Hence they needed the space in the silicon (removed HT). Make bigger silicon die's is all too expensive. Better remove features that eat power and cut costs. Is less more bro @ryan ? Can you do more with less or can you do more with more?

Removing the dedicated fairness mechanisms and extra security features required for hyperthreading makes the core leaner, delivering a 15% increase in performance efficiency, 10% increase in performance per area, and a 30% improvement in performance per power per area. This was much more effective than merely disabling hyperthreading while leaving the control circuitry present, as shown in the measurements in the last slide above. The new approach also preserves die area for other additives, like more E-cores or GPU cores.

Intel isn’t discarding hyperthreading for all use-cases — it still sees tremendous value in P-core-only designs. As such, Intel architected two versions of the Lion Cove core, one with and one without hyperthreading, so that the threaded Lion Cove core can be used in other applications, like we see in the forthcoming Xeon 6 processors.

Seems like it is getting harder to find 2-DIMM DDR5 mobos, which are the only kind that make sense for enthusiasts and gamerboys that care about RAM speed. That suggests to me that the mobo OEMs are stupid or don't give a rat's butt what their customers want or need, and maybe also suggests that most of their customers are ignorant. You would think they would want people to be happy with their purchase and the reputation that follows having happy customers. Selling 4-DIMM gamer and enthusiast mobos is a good way to increase the chances that they will not be happy. The people that don't know any better will buy a 2-DIMM 8000 kit that won't boot, or won't run stable, and blame the RAM or the mobo OEM instead of understanding it is their bad choice.

I will not purchase a 4-DIMM DDR4 or DDR5 mobo. Doing so is like flush money down the toilet. Longer traces means lower clocks, higher latency and often more voltage is needed. No thanks.

Hmmm don't have to big hopes. Not so fast my old friend. Modern computer users wil be happy with whatever they buy. Remember new tech will always cater to new type computer users. And the old computer users has to accept it. Mobile hardware will be transformed into desktop hardware. The differences bethween mobile and desktop hardware will be erased.

For Lunar Lake, Intel took a closer look at the issue of P-cores and HTT. A core that is specifically designed for use without HTT can actually work faster in the end. With HTT, you would still gain in terms of performance per area, but not in any other area. That's why this feature is being dropped in the mobile sector, just as it will later be dropped in the desktop sector.

Arm’s CEO, Rene Haas, is bullish that chips based on the company’s designs will make waves in the PC market that is currently almost exclusively the domain of Intel and AMD. While chips using Arm’s designs have been a wild success in the mobile device nad IoT spaces, it hasn’t managed to make any significant inroads.

Next generation Intel will most likely have fewer threads than AMDs best chips. 24 vs 32 threads. Common math should say less will offer less and not more. If less beats more then it's a failure for the new thread king🙂 Time will tell if less is more bro @ryan

As we always said...there is no replacement for displacement for horsepower, same can be said for cores.

based on current trends in both CPU and GPU, it looks like we are headed into more and more complex territory with regards to theorizing performance metrics just based on specs alone.

we started super simple: higher frequency = better

then we went down the core road = more cores + IPC + higher frequency = better

next we added cache, which became more important (at least in gaming benchmarks) than cores

now we are heading into higher fragmentation still, with different core archs / designs, HT alternatives, I/O dies, etc.

what im trying to say is: u cannot just state anymore that "more threads via HT is better" or "reach higher frequency = better" or "MOAR CORES = BETTER" etc. same goes for overclocking strats, straightforward set = get will likely be over soon. interesting times ahead!

next we added cache, which became more important (at least in gaming benchmarks) than cores

Exactly. While that can be true when many things are equal, many things are often not equal. If we were paying attention we learned this from Bulldozer and Piledriver rubbish CPUs that had high clock speeds and performed like crap. A CPU that performs better only because it has more cores doesn't make it a better product. If you calculate dividing by core/tread count it might be worse. A CPU that has fewer cores/threads and higher clocks and performs equal or better with the lower core/thread count is a stronger CPU, it just lacks cores and threads. If it clocks higher and performs worse when the core/thread count is equal or greater, then it is a trash CPU.

What we need is more of MOAR and more MOAR of everything. More cores, more clock, more IPC and more power. When you hit go, all hell should break loose, the lights should dim or the circuit breakers should trip.

Doing more with less is the wuss way out. We can leave that to the pantywaisted sissy-boys that use "efficiency" as a crutch to justify lackluster garbage and love their "efficient" overheating turdbooks. So, it only uses 50W. Well whoopdeedoo. If it only pulls 50W then why is it thermal throttled at 105°C? Simple. Because it is garbage. Totally different than it's 105°C because it is pulling 650W and you have a crappy thermal solution.

I'm not sure if there is a 2 dimm board for AM5? If there is one, I think it'd be a low budget model.

I stand corrected, but it's Asus. I won't buy Asus, and haven't since 2006ish. Mini-itx

On a brighter note, at least for me.

It's definitely bad flashing on my 7900xtx. I was able to get the stock performance bios flashed and triple verified. I'm still trying to flash the aqua bios, on the low power bios chip, but I can't seem to get it to verify. Not quite sure what happened, as I verified all writes. Now it's quite difficult to get a verification, where as before it verified easily. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure if there is a 2 dimm board for AM5? If there is one, I think it'd be a low budget model.

I stand corrected, but it's Asus. I won't buy Asus, and haven't since 2006ish. Mini-itx

Check this out on @Newegg:ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-I GAMING WIFI 6E Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) Ryzen 7000 mini-ITX Gaming Motherboard (PCIe 5.0, DDR5, 10 + 2 power stages, ROG Strix Hive, EZ Mode PBO Button, Two M.2 Slots, Two USB4 Type-C Ports) https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-x670e-i-gaming-wifi/p/N82E16813119592?Item=N82E16813119592&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-13-119-592-_-06042024

I'm so happy that you got your GPU working again that's awesome. My heart was just sick for you that it was messed up.

I'm not sure why there is not more of them. It makes no sense. Two DIMM has always been better for memory overclocking. There's really no point in it and they know it. Two slot boards should be common and four slot rare. It almost feels like the motherboard manufacturers are mocking us by producing almost exclusively 4-DIMM crap.

Looking forwards to new pictures that show your honest feelings about new coming tech😁 Now I know where you'll get them. You live in Arizona bro @Mr. Fox So easy access to the poo museum. Don't forget bring with you your smartphone (tomorrow's desktop pc) and camera when visiting😆

Opens poo museum

Yes, you read that right. Recently, an American opened a poo museum in Arizona.

Here's the new successor for 1000D. I don't miss much much of anything  with my 1000D. Totally new design is often a huge step back. But not much have changed vs the older 1000D. And that's a good thing you don't see every day in tech world🙂

Corsair Cases at Computex 2024: The Goliath 9000D and Nimble 3500X

The 9000D is the spiritual successor to the 1000D—a no-holes-barred full tower with enough room for multiple independent DIY liquid cooling loops, so you could liquid-cool your CPU, graphics cards, and other hot gear separately from each other. Actually, you can have two separate PCs in here, with the second one being a Mini-ITX, so you could run your streaming and OBS server off it without affecting your main rig's game latency in any possible way. There are at least four large radiator mounts that take 480 mm or 420 mm radiators, each. You can see from the example build how you have the room for multiple reservoirs, radiators, and independent loops.

Just tested WoW on the Team RED build and the rumors are true. WoW now is back to 100% working after AMD's last driver update. RT still sucks as always and works better off. Still hilarious that 15 months ago, nothing had changed with the WoW code base. AMD releases a new set of drivers and suddenly 7000 owners were having all types of problems. They kept pointing fingers at Blizzard and now finally over a year later their newest set of drivers fixes all the DX12 issues.

Reminds me of Nvidia when Shadowlands dropped and for months everything worked great till the CP2077 drivers dropped and suddenly there was flickering all over the place in certain regions. Go back to older drivers, no problem. New drivers? Flickering. It took them a year to fix it but somehow it was Blizzard's fault......

I also ran Steel Nomad total stock on everything w/ DX12 @Raiderman. 7900xtx not exactly setting the world on fire here but still scores 30k+ in Timespy GPU

Obviously your not setting her system up to be a Benchmark machine, but still respectable. You could get much more from that card if you wanted, and you know that already. I've never run anything stock, so I don't have anything to compare. Need to get my card up and fully running again. D***ING with the bios' takes so much time, time that is hard tocome by.

Absolutely agree.  This is what John J User would most likely get out of the box. Down the road, I'll end up swapping the 7600x into my main rig along with the 7900xtx along with swapping my 7950X3D into the Team Red build for comparisons.

I always set baselines of a typical setup/user (well, maybe this is a little tweaked on the memory but that's it at this point) before I start to dial in the PBO and push the GPU for benching and run a stripped down W11. Just like my 4090 score was pure stock (except, again memory tuning). I had to click everything back off, dial everything back down and load up my "just_memOC" profile in BIOS for that stock run.

I'm just happy to see WoW is finally working as intended now. I'll end up retesting flight runs in my main rig with the 4090 vs 7900xtx to gather a new set of data.

Good job bro @Rage Set. Nice with more people enjoying this hobby and the forum🙂

Regarding this hobby.... When we now see all the overpriced tragic new hardware, I went with old again and ordered a new "old" baby for my hobby. I found a Asus 980Ti Matrix on the used market here home. I paid $120 USD + $13 for the shipping. On the Ebay scam people are crazy... They want +$600 USD for same old Asus Matrix card. I'm sure I can get back my $135 if I want put it back on the used market here home. Even get some profits from it if I don't like it.

Even with Asus cheapo engineering I stilll really like the old Asus cards design.

And yup... Asus is cheapo even for their most expensive GPU flagship. No real cooling for the vram. Only airflow from the fans on top of the fan shroud. That's how Asus work and how they value their customers bro @Mr. Fox. Disgusting?

This is just disgusting. Power/performance users will get more and more trash because all hardware manufacturers and OEMs prefer create new modern tech for the awerage computer users. Mobile trash being transformed over to desktop hardware with their same limitations.

Stupidity has never been more repulsive. I don't give a rat's butt about efficiency or battery life. People get what they asked for. And all should get the same. Because designers and engineers know exactly what you want🤢 Hmmm. Telemetry and AI is an dangerous combination.

Colorful Intros COLORFIRE MEOW Laptop Series Inspired by Cats

COMPUTEX

At Computex 2024, Colorful has followed the success of their popular COLORFIRE MEOW Series gaming desktops. The company has unleashed two fierce new gaming laptops - the COLORFIRE MEOW R15 and R16. These portable laptops are adorned with designs inspired by Bobi, COLORFIRE's beloved office cat. From paw print patterns to a sleek orange tabby color scheme, the laptops are littered with feline flair. Under the cat-inspired hood, the MEOW laptops pack a serious punch. They are equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen 8000 Series processors tailored for gaming, content creation, and entertainment. AMD Ryzen AI technology provides a boost to artificial intelligence capabilities. Both run on the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor with eight cores, 16 threads, and a 5.1 GHz maximum boost clock. The Ryzen AI engine delivers up to 39 TOPS for accelerated AI performance. For graphics, the laptops feature up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with 140 W of power.

Here's more stupidity. If one fan fail you'll need to buy a whole new rack with fans for your AIO. In short.... You can't use your computer before you get the replacement. Nice if you have to wait 3 weeks to get back to desktop. Either due RMA or out of warranty. What's wrong with some of nowadays engineers?
