I think it looks great. I lost access to one PCIe slot due to the extra slot being taken by the girth of the air cooler, so I will have to install a dual NVMe card in the bottom slot rather than using two single NVMe cards.

Oh' my gosh. Why use up all the slots when you can get RGB slot covers? Will you buy a few of them bro @Mr. Fox? Or is it too disgusting? The (a)RGB madness sees no end. It just becomes worse and worse for every year. What next?

This is absurd and laughable. Exactly what the bling bling lovers want. More cable salad.

I hope that person was being facetious, but would not doubt the possibility that someone would be nutty enough to want it. Stupity has become very common.

You knew deep in your heart you wanted the 4090 from the jump.... how you convinced yourself a 4080 Super was good enough is beyond me! 🤣

I think it was the price with the 4080 Super that interested me, and it’s still a great GPU. But one thing I didn’t like was the 16GB of GDDR6X. People think this is enough, but it’s not with 4K. I was unable to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with Path tracing+Ray reconstruction on, completely unplayable. My GPU usage would hover at 60% and the game would just skip like crazy and drop to 20-30 fps just by looking at a graphically intensive scene, and I could never get consistent GPU usage unless I disabled path tracing and ray reconstruction. I thought it was the game. So I tried everything possible never could fix it. First thing I did with my 4090, was test this scenario and its butter smooth 99% GPU usage with slightly more Vram consumed than the 4080S had available.

Anyways, the 4090 is strong. It’s a tank for sure! I find my self cutting back a bit on gaming. So, I am most likely going to settle in and skip some fancy new hardware for a while.

If I upgrade anything it’ll be cpu for fun of course. I hope Intel doesn’t cancel making “Special Edition” chips, after the fiasco Intel 14th gen KS had.. Reading its reviews makes me cringe still. I personally thought the 14900KS chips were very good. Much better product than regular retail 14900K chips. Maybe they can eliminate “SP” as well lol. It doesn’t help us one bit.

Hmmm. I think most of the fiasco is with 13t and 14th K chips. Most of the sold unlocked chips is vanilla K.

Nice. northwestrepair fixing NorthridgeFix repair blunders. Not one blunder but many failed fixes. Maybe the card was repaired on an Monday?🙃 Not sure if the owner shipped in the card without paste but NorthridgeFix have done the half-baked solder job/repair.

moving on to waiting for the X3D parts. hopefully AMD actually DID improve the Vcache and its not just same vcache slapped onto the Zen 5 parts 💩

btw, respective vids by GN, JTC, Roman, etc are also out, just couldnt be bothered to post all the links here 😋 interesting tidbit: Roman got a defective cpu, second one after GN's 9600X. not a good showing! CPUs crapping out on us left and right, Intel and AMD, yay....

I think an unfortunate sign of the times we live in. Quality isn't job #1 any more. If the RMA process isn't blazing fast (2 business days or less) and hassle-free it just adds insult to injury when consumers have to take a slow ride for something that isn't their fault. Sadly, the process is seldom fast or hassle-free. Usually the exact opposite of fast or hassle-free.

Newer is always better newer.

Doing more with less and dubbing it as "more efficient" is almost always code word for sucky. The best approach is always do MOAR with more. Getting higher performance from lower power is usually a joke that isn't a funny one. 1+1=2. If you build something with the goal of using less power there will be strings attached.

Refinements without performance advancements is this generation.

Now we're talking.... 🤣

---

Rumors are of a dual X3D CCD design for the 9950X3D, but I'm just not seeing that happening. If we get a 9950X3D like the 7950X3D, that is a massive pass.

This generation is all about refinements and a new node. This is the ultimate tick using Intel methodology. Hopefully the next tock is meaningful on this new fab.

Honestly, they could have just named these 8600x, 8700x, 8850x and save the odd numbering for major uplift/changes as there just isn't much of anything there outside of the new fab and a touch of uplift maybe. I'll need to see some locked clock for clock testing to draw a final conclusion.

Crap on the 7900xtx all you want, but it is 30-40% faster than the 6950xt overall.

But this? Meh.

(Back to tuning the 7950X3D and 14900KS for WoW Xpac comparisons with my 7900xtx and 4090 while I wait for Arrow Lake)

If Intel really wanted they could make real mainstream processors with only P-cores. See link below. But todays desktop processors is just rebranded mobile trash that need baby cores due the thin and small formfactor and need to compete with ARM to offer best battery run time with YouTube video running in the backgroud and with the screen at measly 150 Nits. Aka useless mobile hybrid mess for desktops.

A big fat 24 P-core die and 48 threads with 320W TDP would be a good start for mainstream unlokeed processors. You are allowed to dream... But You'll will wake up fast enough to see a living nightmare with more baby-cores and Hybrid mess delivered with love from Intel.

Intel Granite Rapids CPU breaks cover with 120 P-cores in new benchmark

The Granite Rapids chip's massive number of 128 P-cores makes it one of Intel's most powerful chips. However, this also means it has an enormous power draw, with leaks pointing to a 500-watt TDP. In a dual-socket setup, we could look at a power consumption of up to 1,000W.

For the AMD fanboys...

AMD Rumored to Increase TDP of 65W Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X to 105W

My take on this.... https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/amd-rumored-to-increase-tdp-of-65w-ryzen-7-9700x-and-ryzen-5-9600x-to-105w.453362/#post-6255431

Why bro @Mr. Fox won't get any more AMD chips😀

And if it wasn't for AMD we wouldn't have Intel chips with the modern AMD boost up and down behaviour😆

Interesting, Computerbase found that DDR5-8000 is significantly more easily achieveable on Zen 5 vs. Zen 4. In their case, they werent able to get any of their Zen 4 CPUs stable at DDR5-8000, whereas with Zen 5 it was basically just set and go:

https://www.computerbase.de/2024-08/ryzen-9-9950x-ryzen-9-9900x-gaming-performance/3/

Nice pointer that the main bottleneck is the CPU and not the mobo 🙂 makes me hopeful to be able and dial in 8000+ with the X3D parts!

But a very smart move. Nvidia need all GDDR6X vram they can grab for China. And they can sell more AD102 silicon.

The GeForce RTX 4090D 48GB and GeForce RTX 4080 Super 32GB are available for rent at AutoDL, a Chinese cloud computing provider that rents servers for AI work. Pricing is a steal. You can rent a single GeForce RTX 4080 Super 32GB for $0.03 hourly. However, the service is currently restricted to China, as you need a Chinese phone number to sign up.

Huge shortage of GDDR6X vram hence Nvidia will offer slower GDDR6 for their 4070's. Damn nice. Nvidia know how to go around the U.S ban. Just let the gamers pay the price. I wonder how much bigger profits <nvidia can recoup from sell out their GDDR6X inventory at inflated prices? Be you sure... Jensen know how to max out profits even with the U.S ban on his neck.

Chinese AI startups turn to GeForce gaming GPUs because Nvidia sanction-compliant AI GPUs are too expensive

Since November last year, the RTX 4090s have been subject to export restrictions to China. This led to Nvidia creating the China-only RTX 4090D, which has fewer cores and a lower power draw. However, the chips that these startups are acquiring are most likely the full-fat RTX 4090 versions, not the watered-down 4090Ds.

Despite the bans and sanctions against China, corporations and organizations can still acquire these chips en masse. For example, suppose an importing entity gets blocked in the U.S.. In that case, it either changes its name or address and then repurchases AI-capable GPUs before American authorities get wind of its operation and get banned for a second time.

Back to AMD's new Zen5 flagship launch.

Look at these Cinebench numbers. Now I can see why Intel scrapped HT. No need for it when AMD failed so hard... Hmmm. I start to wonder if Intel had someone inside AMD's HQ/test lab and could report back how bad it was. Yup, I'm 100% sure Intel know what to come from AMD long before we saw first numbers popped up as rumors.

Go get it... @ryan Imagine being able to actually buy something worth having for $10. You can't even buy a pound of good beef steak from the grocery store or a Whopper cheese value meal that cheap today. And, you can grab the demo if you want to play it a bit first.

MLID just summed up VERY nicely why i got more and more confused yesterday as i dived into more and more 9950X reviews: the data doesnt make sense! in some reviews im seeing 10-20% perf. uplifts in productivity and gaming (i.e. tomshardware), where others like HUB show like 1-5%. wtf?!

answer: AMD provided half-baked software/microcode for the new cpus.

imagine this: the new zen 5 thread scheduler as part of the new AMD chipset driver CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED FROM THE OS once its installed.

meaning: if u install windows on a zen 4 cpu and swap to zen 5, performance will be crippled. and vice versa! imagine what that will do for like 99% of reviews.

this is so dumb, whoever came up with this at AMD 🙄💩

Clevo P775dm3 with a 3080 and an 8700k (and some mediocre spectek memory)
3080 is 180w power limited, 8700k is 4.7, had some post issues recently related to socket pressure on the CPU which has been a bit of a pain.

+200 memory on the GPU and VF curve holds around 1890mhz

And timespy, a few artifacts visible so it's not quite stable but a valid run regardless, very impressed with PTM7950 on direct die

Hmmm. You said Tomshardware got much better results than most others? Thats's because the test suite they used is heavly AVX 512 influenced tests. Otherwise... Almost the same sad story as with the others (The 9950X’s advantage over the 7950X also shrinks to 8% with those tests removed). And if you had tested with different tests you would see even worse results from Tomshardware as well.

Several had to test the Zen5 chips with several clean OS installs because of the awful results didn't meet expectations. So this is not the main reason for crippled perverted bench results.

Yup, AMD don't need enemies outside own house. They have them in loads in the AMD HQ. In short if you look into AMD HQ you'lll see....

Yup, but no one know for sure if a proper software/microcode could make gold of Zen5 chips. It's what it is bro @jaybee83😎

make gold, right...ofc not 😄 but it makes a huge difference if we get +10-15% boost at stock/with PBO or +1-2%. i mean, we previously upgraded cpus for +5% rght? 😋

Don't know why anyone would want to use it. It is truly disgusting. After Windows 7 to present, the newest version of Windows is always inferior to the one before it.
