Good. You can finish what I was going to do. I had the CPU (twice even) but couldn't get a mobo that wasn't outrageously priced. I still want one, but I'll probably settle on a W790 setup. I am in love with Proxmox, and my goal is to consolidate my home lab servers into one and then virtualize everything.

I always wanted to build one of these. Something about these huge Monolithic CPU’s is awesome and those big motherboards lol. 
 

I almost went with W790, I was doing some extreme bargain hunting lol. I had found a brand-new Asrock W790 2.0 for $599.99 on eBay (It was stripped though with no WiFi/BT, very minimalistic I/O being the cheaper 2.0 model, and still $100 over MSRP So I just didn’t love it) then I saw a used Xeon W2465X for $700 dollars. Then I was going to get a 4x16GB DDR5 6000 kit I found for about $279.99. Something about the allure of the Dominus board just reeled me right in though. 
 

I do plan to build a W790 in the near future. I’m taking a break from mainstream sockets for a while. I just don’t have any interest in them lately. I am going to piece my W790 build together slowly. These are really expensive, and I felt like I was rushing and I was going to potentially order whatever just to piece together a running system for as cheap as possible.

I love that. Very awesome. I agree... huge monolithic CPU is the only good way to do it. Everything else is a dumb idea with strings attached and caveats.

 

It is amazing that the motherboard is wider than an air-cooled 4090. I'm not sure that case you are wanting is going to be large enough for this mobo and big radiators. You might want to get one like @Papusan has, (Corsair Obsidian 1000D,) and even that will just barely be big enough.

 

Edit: a 9000D Airflow might also work. Seems very similar to the Obsidian but less glass and more ventilation. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-cases/cc-9011273-ww/9000d-rgb-airflow-super-full-tower-pc-case-cc-9011273-ww

@electrosoft This thing completely stock with Intel Default power limits in place is throwing that 4090 around pretty good. I was a little surprised. The cpu power consumption is sub 40 watts in game. 🤷‍♂️

I've got it queued up to take a looksy later. I spent the bulk of last night pulling my AMD hardware and switching my main rig to the SP109 14900KS setup. 5.9 all core and Intel APO w/ World of Warcraft is just a game changer versus the 7950X3D on the 4090.

 

EDIT: Just watched it. It will be interesting swapping back and forth between your 3175 and 13900ks systems with the 4090 and various games to see what you get across many scenarios/locations.

14900KS with APO is definitely killer. I truly believe it’s probably gonna hang with the newer stuff. 
 

The 3175X is stout and working well though. 4K with 4090 is no problem. This 3175X does have a very very good default boosting algorithm. It has a frequency in mind from 2 cores active all the way to 28 cores active.

 Exactly what Intel wanted right before the release of 15th gen. So more good news for Intel and their upcoming power efficient gaming flop Core Ultra PROCESSORS. We are not talking about 15% lower gaming performance as Intel showcased, but +20% less gaming performance compared to their competitors GAMING CHIPS. Intel will regret the switch to TSMC tile mess if the performance differences is as big as these rumors say. Being behind by 30% in several games is not only sad, it is disgusting from a flagship product.

 

And if this is the results to expcted then not be surprised if Intel make a copy-cat of AMD's X3D products early next year. Intel are already very close.... They already use TSMC and glued silicon. Add the v-cashe to the glued mess is what we will see next.

I've stopped listening to all of the silly chatter about gaming this and gaming that. I don't really care. What I do care about is no hyperthreading and reduced core/thread count and the assinine glorification of using less power. That part makes me angry, but I really don't give a hoot if an X3D CPU does something better with games. It's not all that important to me, and once your framerate is higher than 150-200 FPS, or equal/greater than your monitor refresh rate and free of stuttering issues, it really starts to not matter in the grand scheme of things for gaming. I want them to be focused on raw mutli-core horsepower and increasing core/thread count and stop talking about stupid stuff like using less power, being "more efficient" and not being the best gaming CPU.

I have included some pictures and I will try to get this RMA'd. I personally don't like the way the cable sticks out so would it be beneficial to purchase another one of these? I know they had a recall for V1 & V1.1 but I don't even know the version I got.

I got the Z890 Apex in today. I also have the OCF that I snagged at $499 on preorder from Newegg before they jacked the price. Will test both I suppose and keep 1.

Seeing all these leaks though, I'm sorta not feeling good. I'm trying to remain excited and hope it's still at least fun to tune and tinker with, but man, what a let down it seems to be rumored to be. I've said it before, who the F is in charge over there? Why do we have a useless NPU on a desktop CPU that will be paired with a huge RTX 4090 or 5090? Why do I need an NPU with a useless 13 tops? I mean the 5800X3D came out like 3 years ago? Why the F didn't Intel say dang, lets up the cache and slap it on hard. I know cache has it's drawbacks and penalties, but it seems to really help with latency prone chiplets/tiles. 

 

Nope, Intel said give them a totally useless NPU, that will make all the reviewers blush.

No doubt it’s going to be very fun to tune on, most of these systems are. I’m not really sure how the 285K will stack up. I think all that matters is having fun! Something new to play with.

Okay Okay. IT IS TIME!

I wanted to make sure this system was reliable before doing any overclocking at all! Nothing weird has happen with it. The thing is 100% SOLID. This is an older system so who really knows how this may or may not run lol. I wanted to be certain it did not freeze, crash, close to desktop, BSOD at all while running completely stock first. I am only using (1) power supply, it requires two power supplies for best results. And I am only using (2) of the 8pin power connectors of the (6) 8 pin cpu power connectors on the board. These are pretty tedious platforms; everything should be done "just so" from the research I did. You need a 12 inch pound torque wrench for the CPU installation, it must be torqued in the exact pattern. I re-did my thermal paste today, and was worried to death my system would never work right again lol, (This was not the case at all) I had no issues with memory channels dropping, I had no issues with CPU socket pressure. I was only worried about this because apparently Der8auer could never get his HEXA channel working properly with the EKWB WS CPU block lol. Maybe he just didn't follow the sequence is all I can think of. 🤷‍♂️ But with all that being said, and all of the low rated reviews on the Dominus motherboard, it really makes you think you are assembling a piece of unreliable glass that can break at any moment. 🤣
So, I wanted to say the whole process was smooth as butter. I have not had any issues with this system. 

OC TIME! 4.5Ghz is VERY easy and it does surpass 40K in R23 which is just perfect! DDR5 3800CL14 is also stable. 4.5Ghz on all 28/56 with just a mere 1.135V 😁What a BEAST this thing is! The memory bandwidth is impressive. Minimal tuning was done. I really need to go in and enter manual timings, this is just XMP 3800 for the most part. But with DDR4 I feel like a noob again lol. 

This Behemoth of a system gives me 56 threads for endless working capabilities. TONS of ram to use and just leave things up and running! And lots of PCI lanes for all the storage I may want to add down the road. The CPU is not delidded, it is a stock retail 3175X. Which is exactly what I hunting for. A lot of ES samples and fakes floating around out there, you just don't know what you may get until you get it. 😁

This is my temporary cold bug fix. The cold bug only happens once each day on the very first boot-up from the PC sitting all night/morning. 🤣

So I had a little bit of time to mess with the 9950X yesterday, and I dont think this chip is particularly strong. It does not like some of my settings I had on the 7950X. Even though this score is as high as some LN 7950x's, its just not boosting as high as it should. I have not had time to tune ram yet.

Are the DDR5 timings the same on AMD as they are on Intel? What sort of tREFI do you run on this platform?

They are not the same, as far as I know. I have not messed with Intel since the P4 days. I will try and get tREFI into the high 4 digit area. tREFI does not affect latency as much as tRFC, and tRFC 2 on AMD. At least that has been my experience.

The score is awful from an brand new CPU arcitecture and 32 threads. And Intel don't do it any better with their 24 threads hybrid mess and baby cores. The performance stagnation is clear as a sunny day. This is awful.  

 

Core Ultra 9 285K should had HT with same IPC uplift. This is too small of a gain over current gen Raptor Lake (Refresh). But I expect everything is all about improved power efficiency and single core workflow.

 

Intel really need to come back with either more P-cores or more threads. Because this is an miniscule performance uplift and just embarassing. . And the stated gaming performance just make it complete.

It is both good and bad.

 

BAD: Considering it is missing hyperthreading and falls short by 8 threads because of that, the Cinebench score could have been MUCH higher if it matched the prior i9. Bad also because you are paying a lot for no overall performance increase. Bad because you're paying for stupid gimmicks nobody wanted or asked for (i.e. asinine NPU AI bullcrap). Bad also because they moved to a tiled design and farms this out to TSMC. Bad because they kept E-cores instead of ditching them and adding more P-core. Spending the money seems pointless for anyone with a Z790 system with an i9.  All of this makes me feel angry.

 

GOOD: for only 24 threads, that Cinebench R23 score seems excellent. That is the equivalent of a 5.9-6.0GHz all-P-core and 4.7-4.8GHz all-E-core overclock of a 14900KS. The temperatures and power draw are very good. Will that create overclocking headroom? I don't know. Hopefully it will. It looks like DDR5 overclocking might show improvement. For someone with a Z590 or earlier system, upgrading to this makes more sense than a Z790 equivalent even though it could have been better if they had not ditched hyperthreading. It could have been better than better had they not moved to a stupid tiled chiplet piece of crap and replaced E-core with more hyperthreaded P-cores.

 

I came very close to buying new AMD parts the other day, but then I pulled my head out and remembered how that has turned out every time before and that I have never been satisfied, even once, with anything they make. It's also an engineering abortion with a tiled design and a guaranteed crappy CCD paired with a potentially good or OK CCD. But, the fact that I even paused to momentarily consider doing that shows how disappointing the newer and not-better platform is.

 

So, looks like there is an awful lot to be pissed off about and just a few things to appreciate. They're not trying very hard. This could have been really easy for them had they given it more effort. I wonder if they are holding back something better like an Intel "Ti" CPU equivlant that will be released to milk more money from Intel enthusiasts.

Just did some stability testing with 6x16GB DDR4 3800CL14 with 1.500V (3800CL14 at 1.500V is top-notch binned I think) This is perfectly stable on Air cooling, but it did require a fan to pass this test of course. This setup with no fans will error out in 2.5 minutes flat lol. With a fan it runs perfectly FINE!

I don't technically need to water cool the rams, but I hate fans blowing on things like that, it becomes a dust master 3000, so I will definitely try to water-cool the rams! 

PS: 1usmus takes forever with all of this ram.

I am sure this could be better. My OS is starting to show its age. I just checked task manager after checking latency, and I have 328 services running on my Windows 11 Pro. 🙃
