Not sure what you have of parts. But let the Cpu get less priority (not important here). Use what you have and think more on the GPU part. Even a air coller help. Try fix you Port Roilale score. Cpu isn't important there.

That is the problem right now. I have no spare parts available that I could use for testing at the moment. I sold off lots of the spare parts collecting dust and used cash from those sales to help pay for new stuff I use daily.

Spare CPUs, motherboards, air coolers, RAM, waterblocks, etc. were sold or given away. I even built an entire desktop from spare parts and sold that. The only thing I had to acquire was a mid-tower case, and I got one for free from a relative that had no use for it.

Here is the system I built and sold using spare parts with the free case. I made $650 off of parts sitting in boxes in my closet that were not being used for anything.

Unrelated matter, last night I was looking at a lot of things closely and noticed the Cablemods sleeved cables were getting kind of scary looking. I already knew some of the 24-pin motherboard wires had melted insulation from the 7980XE overclocking making the cables overheat. I saw the same thing starting to happen on all three 8-pin GPU cables. One more so than the other two. So, I installed the brand new EVGA 8-pin GPU and 24-pin motherboard cables that came with the 1600W PSU that I had never used.

That is a great looking budget build that likely still performs excellent for 1080p gaming even in 2022. Shame it's not supported by Nvidia anymore. I need to do something similar to this soon as I have so many "spare" parts just sitting in boxes. I am waiting for the GPU firesale that is likely going to happen on eBay or OfferUp soon enough. I will grab a good "slightly mined on" GPU to put together a cheap rig.

Scary thing with those cables. Fire hazard for sure. I will have to take a look at mine, but I haven't noticed any damage when I was digging around in there last few days.

I hope the scalping bastard pigs that hoarded GPUs and drove the prices to insane levels lose many millions or even billions of dollars and flood the market with more GPUs than the market can come even remotely close to handling. It would be great if GPUs started selling for like 20% of MSRP with a supply that is 5 or 10 times greater than the demand, LOL. Imagine getting a 3060 for $150 or a 3090 for $350, and as many as you want. That would be awesome.

3090 SLI for benching. 😁

Edit: with a BIG power supply. No 500W gamerboy PSU.

Nice. Fedora/RHEL added 12th Gen support and now the cpupower-gui utility works properly. You can change clocks per P-core and E-core from the Linux desktop.

While I am very disappointed with AMD right now, Intel won't have an answer to Ryzen 7000 on mainstream. DDR5/PCIe5 will be standard on both platforms and if the rumors of 5.1+ on 7000 are true, no matter how many e-cores Intel decides to put into 13th Gen, Intel won't take the crown.

Finally stopped being lazy and cleaned up my P750FM today.

Were back to 4.5Ghz on the 9700F and 1900 core on the 1080. I still want to get the full 200w though so Frankenstein's monster will be taking on another layer of aluminum to consistently hit that 2Ghz cap.

I want to spend a bit more time planning the desktop so it was time to put some love into the monster.

4th Gen (P750ZM) chassis with a 6th gen (P750DM-G) motherboard with a 9th gen i7 9700F and a 1080 🙂 Its been a fun modding trip with @DaMafiaGamer

Well said Bro and I agree.

5800X3D early review numbers don't look too bad (actually quite good as presented) for 720p and 1080p gaming benchmarking, but this is one site so we will see in a few days when the embargo lifts and other sites churn out their numbers but it definitely seems to add a bit of punch. Portend of things to come with 6000 series and V-cache:

If past history with L4 cache can be used as a reference, then synthetics wouldnt benefit much but gaming would.

Though I cant say if that should be used as a reference, my ear isnt that close to the ground these days.

True, seeing as the 5800X3D is aimed squarely at gamers that is where it will potentially shine but it will have to shine quite brightly to offset the overall performance loss in almost all other performance categories vs 12th.

Very true, I really only see this making sense in a mobile DTR setting or perhaps an SFF system where you prefer greater GPU cooling bias or have a liking to a particular attraction to an SFF case that doesnt permit larger heatsinks.

I hope it does well, competition tends to be a good thing all around.

And... not only performance deficits to contend with, but also a general lack of stability and reliability that needs to be fixed. The WHEA errors and USB drop-out issue are not things I am likely to forgive and forget for a very long time. A system that produces nice benchmarks scores loses a lot of its sparkle when it is unreliable and frustrating to deal with for normal everyday use. The 5950X and Crosshair experience was my "21st Century Edsel" in the digital realm.

5800X3D is out, as expected it is closer to 12900K way close at TPU. In gaming ofc. And the benches from all places I lost trust I posted when NBR was there about how 10900K in TPU's review was leading the charts on 11900K review and suddenly when testing other CPUs the 10900K takes a massive backseat.  Anyways the CPU loses out to the $100 cheaper 5800X in some tests because ofc the Clock speed got slashed and the OC tuning is castrated from factory.

I wonder who will buy this in 2022 sure most of them want to avoid the big DDR5 thing on Intel platforms but still a 5900X is better choice without a single question.

Speaking about the WHEA and USB, well the saga continues..7 days older thread many users report it along with OP and another guy in the subreddit apparently getting this with Crosshair VIII Extreme. Nothing will solve this problem. Because I/O Die is flaky and AMD couldn't fix it at all, without completely altering the specifications of the Processor and the Chipset. Thanks to zero documentation. Nobody knows what to do except pray to god.

And instead of utilizing this opportunity to fix the entire stack of Zen 3 with X3D bump and Specification changes addressing the fixes, they do not do anything. Also there was another issue reported on how Adrenalin Software AMD Drivers package Ryzen Master into them and causing some weird glitches altering CPU settings, currently the fix is to create a new GPU profile.

Zen 4 with AMD first they need to get the damn memory controller proper without any of those nonsensical issues of instability and primary focus must be on the Firmware of all things. What's the use of the product when the Software is very poor. And finally the whole IOD nonsense. I do not doubt it would have ultimate performance boost after-all they axed X3D refresh to make it appear strong.

5800X3D looks to be on average equal to the 12900k/ks for gaming (and obviously nothing else). It depends on the game(s) you play as there are some meaningful gains for each processor depending on game played. If your game already favored AMD it looks like the 5800X3D just kicks it up to the next level.

If all I played was FFXIV (which seems to absolutely thrive on AMD hardware) at 1080 or 1440 and everything else I did wasn't multi-threaded dependent, I could see building out a 5800X3D rig. All my daughter's fiance plays is FF and is starting to ask about me building a moderate desktop for him to replace his aging laptop (4810 + 970m). He plays at 1080p and wants to go high refresh. Nice inexpensive MB, 5800X3D, AMD 6600 would be a sweet, little build that would be a substantial upgrade.

In other words, the 5800X3D is going to be catered towards a very, specific demographic. Particular set of games that favor AMD, 8 core / 16 thread is more than enough for their normal usage, since it can't OC inexpensive MB, nothing time critical, smaller budget overall.

Ugh, I think we both know my past PTSD with the USB issues..... :icons8-face-with-rolling-eyes-100:

They already struggle with the cheaper new v-cache chips from AMD (being the gaming king). 15-20% IPC increase for 13th gen paired with more baby cores doesn't make any sense if they want to try stay on top in gaming vs next gen Ryzen. Intel is their own enemy if we talk about competition to deliver ultimate performance in games and applications. The Raptor lake will be a huge failure if the rumors about coming chips is correct. This means yet another year before they can compete. Can they afford this? Once again be stern sailed as they have been the last years? Maybe they don't care and instead will put all their power into jokebooks where the profits is. I'm sure they don't want to lose the battle with AMD for notebooks.

Seems like a nice send off for AM4, due to no OC the hype I did have for it is gone. That all being said I probably would pick this up for my AM4 ITX box but only off the second hand market sometime in the not yet defined future when its much cheaper.

The gamers that dont want to think about tuning will probably look at this if appropriately priced.

It is kinda all over the map and you get the average which has it close but you have to go into the individual games and see what's going on. You get a game like CS:GO where performance regresses with the 5800X3D but then turn around and you get a massive outliers like this:

image.thumb.png.9f579276374f425502fa752daba8d4de.png

Which really skews the overall average.

This is AMD's turn to create a Frankenchip. It's their 11900k and it is going to be a very game specific to justify picking one up. If all you play is FC5 and BL3, it's apparently a killer chip but I'm going to want to wait and see more detailed benchmarks including 1% and .1% lows when it isn't sitting on that fuel injector of a cache because those low stumbles are deal breakers.

I haven't played those titles, is it safe to say they are adequately multi-threaded?

In the past chips like these tended to mostly shine when properly loaded. I liked that aspect but mostly due to when and what I was thinking of it.

The frame times looked much cleaner as well, with Intel still pulling ahead unless I misunderstood what I was looking at.

Not the gains I would have hoped for. Backwards progress on multicore and single core performance.

You can pay for this experiment or you can buy a 12600K or 12700K

Maybe ok for a few games. But can you take gold in benchmarks with this locked down chips? For me... It offer no value. I'm not a gamer 🙂 And if I was a gamer I would want more from the chips. Why pay more than sub $200 if all you want is gaming?

It's locked down, and completely boring to me. I don't think you can even tune the voltage which is crazy. It certainly helps in some games and doesn't as much in others, but were looking at 720p and 1080p results. While completely valid for CPU testing, it starts to make a lot less sense when you consider the chip is $449 and has less multicore performance than a $269 12600K. Which by the way can be overclocked to match a 12900K in gaming for the most part and at stock is shown to be only 6% slower than the 5800X3D AT STOCK. This chip is a Frankenstein failed experiment unless it is sold at a far lower price. It's no wonder why AMD is only doing this single chip and no releasing it for 7000 series.

I guess where I can see this chip making more sense is for drop in upgrade for existing AM4. But then why not get a 5900X or 5950x since they're getting so cheap?

Yep, AMD did an Intel (their 11900K frankenstein failure on 14++++++++++++++) as a nice ending on the platform. Disgusting!

Like Intel, they had to respond with something instead of just admitting defeat for the moment and ride it out till their next gen product is announced.

The 5800X3D seems like it is designed to make a PC the equivalent of an overpriced gaming console.

I think I would have a whole lot more respect for all of the Big Tech vendors if they would come right out and say, "Sorry kids... we've got nothing new right now. When we do you can be sure that it will be awesome, but there is no point in us wasting your money or burning our own calories on releasing crap just for the sake of saying we have something new when it is actually nothing special. So, please spend your money on the killer stuff that we already gave you, or take time to enjoy it if you already have, and just chill until something great surfaces."
