Nope. This below has to be the magic with that PSU. The 8 pin to 12V-2x6 cable😁 A lot better solution than offering two native 12V-2x6 connectors on the PSU panel. More PSU manufacturers should offer the same. I hope you  find one in the package.

I found one in the package! So essentially it has two gen 5 PCIe cables, and one being the preferred method I suppose. That is very NICE!  I never even thought of it like this.

So, if what I am seeing is accurate, if you have an older NVIDIA, like a 3090, or current AMD GPU with 2 or 3 8-pin PCIe power connections this PSU is unusable, is that correct? You'd have to buy a new PSU if you decided to go with something like a 7900 XTX or 9070 XT. It has only one conventional 8-pin GPU power cable?  Is that right?

The 12VHPWR can be used as 2 8 pins with the last cable and it looks like they come with 3 single ended 8 pin cables and a pigtail cable, so the 1200W cable comes with 7 total 8 pin connector ends.

If that is true (and I do not doubt it) the product documentation Lian Li has posted on Amazon is not accurate (which would not surprise me). Clear communication in English has never been a strength for most Chinese manufacturers.

So, I have finally outgrown my dual 1440p 165Hz Predator displays. They have been outstanding monitors, just not enough screen real estate for the amount of time I spend in Excel and PowerBI every day. Found this awesome deal ($100 off sale) and grabbed two. They are the same size and will fit on my dual monitor stand just fine.

That PSU have 6x 8 pin connectors on the PSU panel. Slight better than the new normal with 5x8pin or less. You probably need to use one of the daisy chained 8 pin cables with the new "normal" PSUs if going with the better custom Radeon or older Nvidia GPUs. Not ideal but it's what it is. Modern times where the PSU manufacturers cut costs to implement the 12+4 pin disaster.

Welcome to the 4k club brother! 🙂

Thank you.

I actually have an ASUS 4K 120Hz IPS display that I bought about a year or two ago. It is an older model that was a flagship product in its day. It is connected to the Apex system so I do not use it 40-60 hours per week. But, these Predator monitors should be better based on numerous specs. I just finally got fed up with all of the scrolling I have to do for Excel and PowerBI every day for work. It will also be less of a shock/adjustment to my eyes and brain going back and forth from 4K to 2K. Whenever I use the Apex system with the 4K screen it takes me a bit to readjust to it.

I have a total of five monitors in my office. The two 1080p screens will no longer be needed. I will use the 1440p Predators in place of them.

That GPU looks so good. I know I have said it before, but I prefer that sort of very clean and non-descript look over the garish look of many of the popular gamer-targeted GPUs.

The MEG display has been a trooper so far, seems even happier with the 9070xt than it did the 4070.

So I've been playing a good amount of WoW and FO76 on the 9800X3D + 5080 tuned up.

The dip is gone. Completely gone. None, nada, zilch.

Desktop responsiveness and game smoothness is beyond smooth.

Raids are rock solid at Ultra 10 RT enabled 4k.

I'm just going to admit it that I'm liking the x870e Hero more than my x670e Carbon. I love MSI, but this one is a solid win for Asus. The one thing the MSI could do was handle DR sticks better though.

While I had tuned my memory before on the 7800X3D and 7950X3D, this time around I went beast mode on it and with all the extra time it sat in my test bench case, I tuned it to the next level and threw in some Karhu for extra measure at 2200/6400 along with a standard frequency OC so it is hitting ~5450 gaming.

When I get time, I'm going to re-test/tune for fun at 8000+ on these TG sticks + I plan on taking this route with the MSI Raider and tuning.

----

With the 14900KS in the wife's system, like mine I gave it a complete breakdown and cleaning, new paste,  and the SP109 14900KS has the same properties as my golden 12900K cool hand luke and is able to run at LLC1 no problem in the Z690 D4 Strix unlike the delidded 12900k I had in there (golden stock lid 12900K is in my NH55). As a result, after the cleaning, tuning, her system is running quieter with the SP109 14900KS than with the delidded 12900k and boosting to 6.2 on top of that in WoW while not hitting more than ~1.4v and staying below 70c on an EVGA 280mm AIO.

Re-tuned the UV on the Strix 3080 and with the repaste + shoring up the pads it is making zero noise playing WoW too outside of a touch of coil whine on the Focus 1000w which can be heard since everything else is running so quiet. The Mrs has said it more than once now how quiet her system is when using it in general and gaming especially.

Both systems are running stupidly quiet and when gaming all I hear are low levels of fans on the 5080 if the room is completely silent. With speakers on their normal gaming volume (not super loud), I hear nothing.

---

I was going to sell off my spare components (12900k, Asrock Z790i Lightning, couple sets of DDR5, numerous 980 Pro drives, etc...) but my daughter and her fiance broke up and she has reclaimed their spare room (he wrecked it) and wants to turn it into her dedicated office/computer room and a dedicated desktop computer so the next project is to gut it, lay new carpet and a fresh coat of paint then build her a new desk, new gaming system and build out some new custom shelves.

----

5090 Astral is officially $3359.99 = ~$3600 w/ tax for me. Insanity....

And lastly, there goes the idea of a 5090ti.....

https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-rtx-pro-6000-blackwell-leaked-24064-cores-96gb-g7-memory-and-600w-double-flow-through-cooler

Absolutely no way Nvidia is leaving any extra $$$ on the table when they can pump out these full fat, memory laden monsters for a king's ransom....

Yes it has (6) PCIe 8 pin connections, and (1) Gen 5.1 connection. (2) of the PCIe are used for CPU, and (4) more can be used for a second GPU if needed. It’s a very nice PSU! I love that it has fan headers, and usb 2.0 headers on it for easy cable routing. Everything plugs in to the PSU. The removable magnetic dust/fan cover is really awesome!

I also use excel and PowerBi on a daily lol. 4K is amazing though! That’ll give the 4090 a good workout. Although still runs it easily maxed out on all modern titles. The 4090 comfortable works with 600+ watt power limit even at 4K. Unfortunately not the case for the 5090 lol. (More like starvation model) 😂

That's good to know. I really like the design of the Lian Li Edge and Corsair RMx SHIFT PSUs (I own two of them) because they really help with cable management and ease of access.

I am definitely not new to 4K but I do not like paying lots of money for keyboards, mice and monitors. I've found them to generally not age well and I typically prefer to spend more on performance/overclocking components than peripherals. I could not afford to replace all 5 monitors with 4K at once, but I am OCD and do not like having mixed resolutions on multi-monitor setups. I want all of them to be identical aesthetically and functionally. In this case the money is being spent on work-focused benefits of the added screen real estate. But, 4K is a bad choice on small screens. 27" is like the smallest acceptable screen size for 4K. Smaller than that is pretty miserable unless you use like 150-200% scaling. Doing that loses the benefit of the primary reason to own 4K (screen real estate).

Hmmm. Asus added only $1 wimpy USD for the Astral OC LC sku. But increased the prices for the Air version from $3079.99 up to $3359,99. Why? To make the prices more equal for both the Astral OC SKUs? Or maybe they mean $3409 is close to max they can charge for any 5090 now?

Edit. Better  say.... More people buy the air cooled version... Hence that SKU got the massive price increase.

Why? Simple. Because they are scummy, scurvy bastards that never pass an opportunity to screw the people that buy their overpriced products.

Fun facts. Asus don't have any prices for the non OC version on their store. That make them able to grab $10-15 USD more for the Astral SKUs.

Hmm. That is unlikely. They added close to $300 premium for the air cooled version. Why add only $1 USD now for the LC? The LC version should be closer to $3799. Whats wrong with Asus when they chicken out on the LC ?

They do not price anything to value. They price their products based on being legends in their own minds, with the knowledge that too many of their customers are brand fanboys and with no shame in exploiting the stupidity of those fanboys.

9070xt is a certified banger especially at $599.99 MSRP (good luck!)

If AMD launches a 9080xt w/ 24gb or a 9090xt w/ 32gb it could be a certified 4090/5090 competitor for raster.....

They focussed their driver and wafer capacity on a single die, we may see a 9070XTX with an even higher TDP, faster/denser ram. But that's it I think this gen.

Maybe they'll take mercy on us and split the difference and make it $3649.99.... 🤣

So it really is the 5700xt all over again. Bodes well for next gen....

I just want to snag an Asrock model to pair with this Asrock Z790i MB and keep it moving.

I just hope they hit that sweet spot and keep the drivers up, if they can get some volume and purchase in the market it will be a good thing.

Given the fact that firmware and functional limitations are becoming more of a thing for me than thermal limitations, I am considering selling my chiller and going back to internal self-contained liquid cooling. I don't like the idea of it or the reasons that lead me to considering it, but an increasingly diminished overclocking experiencing and overall general dissatisfaction with hardware components that are being produced is starting to negate the benefit of having superior cooling systems. There is no point in having a superior cooling solution if the functional limits of the silicon and firmware castration eliminate the benefit of lower temperature in creating more overclocking headroom (because it doesn't facilitate more aggressive overclocking nearly as much as it used to). The silicon peters out or the firmware caps performance before the cooling becomes a limiting factor. This is also simultaneously diminishing my interest in computers. The functional frequency limits of my 4090 video cards and my 9950X do not seem to scale as much with lowered temperatures to the same degree as the older parts do. That really sucks.

kool....so whos skipping the 5090 to get one of DEEEZ NUTS? 😄

edit: as for the 5090, prices keep falling and supply keeps improving. just now one of the shops im monitoring got in 8(!) 5090 Suprim Air, and theyre not vanishing inside of seconds. same goes for stuff on ebay and amazon. im thinking that the market demand for 5090s at ridonkulous markups over the MSRP has dried up 🙂 keep HODLING guys, were getting there!

We need federal regulations that make it a felony to conduct business with any enemy of the state. China, North Korea and any nations with terrorist operations need to be put on an ex-communication/no business/no travel/no communication watch list and we need to send violators (CEOs and CFOs) to prison that are caught in non-compliance. They should be charged with treason and have a mandatory life sentence and their citizenship revoked. We need to stop caring about companies getting wealthy selling crap to or conducting trade with China and other enemy nations. If they can't make it without China, then tough. Don't care. (Bottom line is, they can.) China needs to become isolated and unable to conduct legal trade with any nation that wants to place nice with the US and its allies. Survival needs to be made extremely difficult for China as a nation. They need to be stripped of any and all influence on the world stage and their ability to make money totally cut off. The world needs to reject them and exclude them from everything.
