Newer has to be better. Always bro @Mr. Fox

New Nvidia drivers improve performance in benchmarks, but crashes and gaming issues remain

Up to 8% better performance in 3DMark Steel Nomad

If the new crashes are widespread, they represent a potentially serious setback to Nvidia's efforts to fight bugs that first emerged with the RTX 50 series launch. For months, users have reported frequent game crashes and instances where Windows boots into a black screen after installing drivers intended for the new GPUs.

yeaaaah F that, staying on 572.83 for the time being 😄 now that i think about it, the meager perf. increase in AW2 is probably due to the shitty drivers....

@tps3443 I had a chance to really push my guildie's 5090 FE and that thing just does not respond well (as it shouldn't) to any real OC/D2D/low noise profiles. Heat and pull had it sitting sub 3.1ghz and routinely under 3ghz even gaming making it more of a UV king than an OC card. We ended up with a curve of .0925 and about 2875mhz +3000 when finished on his FE that, in his words, "wow, I didn't realize it could run this much quieter when gaming." Temps were still hitting about 72c but the noise had dropped dramatically. Of course less fan noise means any coil whine really will present itself front and center...

Astral will sit at +3000 3150-3250 all day gaming, fans at sub 50% temps at sub 66 all day everyday....

....This is the way.

Oh and as I had to tell him after a few runs/tests and a few protests from him, "No my good sir, THAT is coil whine and a healthy amount of it too!" His 5090 FE has that seesaw coil whine that is immediate return/resell levels. When it squealed on GT2 I had him pull up up Deus Ex MD benchmark to run and it sounded like someone was trying to mug it in an alleyway.  He isn't phased by the coil whine at all though.

Him "So I take it you don't want to trade +1400?"

Me "I think we both know the answer to that"

Him "I don't really think the coil whine is bad. I don't really hear it."

Me "Well, we're both not spring chickens so maybe your hearing is going"

Him "Eh? What did you say?" (Mockingly holding hand up to ear)

(Followed by about 2 minutes of continuous laughter)

If he wants an Astral, I would just tell your buddy to sell his 5090FE and go buy an Astral, he doesn’t need yours. He can get $3,500 for his FE no problem. The market on these FE’s has gone up substantially on eBay. And he would not have to add any money at all. And even if he could not find an MSRP Astral, he has $1,400 he’s trying to add, so he can just go buy one of the $4,399 dollar Scalper Astrals on eBay and add much less cash.

That is EXACTLY what I told him to do! 🤣 but he doesn't like the idea of having extended downtime looking for an Astral at MSRP with current market conditions. If you find someone who wants to trade an Astral (either model) for a 5090 FE, let me know. I can't think of anyone who would want to do that seeing as the Astral is superior across the board except in price, but you never know.

BB did have a drop on the 17th of 5080 FE and 5090 FE and people did get the call for VPA this last week as noted before so they're back to dropping them so that's a good sign. Glad to see BB back in the loop too so they're pumping them out.

If I was him I would sell that coil whine monster for $3.5k and wait for an Astral to drop to snag it.

The fact the FE's sell for $3.5k isn't because they're an FE. It is because ALL 5090's command at least that much regardless of model.

Scary to think they used to sell for $6k+ at one point. Shows the market is still normalizing.

It's a about feelings. Not many here home so the prices is awful high. The cards is very rare. So it has to be top quality. I would like a FE but for MSRP. Not a dime above. But not in a small chassis. They cook there. In my big black box they could at least breath.

Right in time for 5090🙂

Agreed, there is zero argument for price:performance for the FE models relatively speaking. 5090 FE is crazy sleek IMHO (I just love the way 5080/5090 FE's look), SFF ready (you're gonna need a direct pass through to immediately vent all that heat) and the price can't be beat. Those are its strengths hands down, no questions asked.

My original list still remains: FE, Suprim, Astral. I'd be happy with any of them and for different reasons for each.

Wow, a blast from the past! Cablemod strikes again.

Same as with the 40 series... If you find an FE at $2000 you get your money back. The only nice with this disaster. Bro Fox going with cheaper Radeon XT he got his value. Because this newer from nvidia  is awful reading.

@electrosoft You might be under Asus’s ROG spell. He would have to be nuts to fork over a 5090FE and $1,400 for an Astral. I think 99% of Astral owners cannot buy a FE for $1,999 so they go this route >  (I’m already getting hosed at $2,900+ for a Ventus so let me just get hosed for $3,359 on the Astral INSTEAD)

All I know is this..I would not pay + anything over my FE for an Astral unless It was the only option @electrosoft you should steer this guy straight he should keep his 5090FE and learn to love it. Or maybe just trade him.. You could literally swap with this guy and build an entire custom loop inside a brand new anything case you wanted and fold your own Astral with the ultra silent watercooled FE 🫠. Of course the Astral runs higher clocks right now, it’s the size of a bus man. Add a block to both the FE and the Astral and what are the benefits of the Astral….

I mean, I can run CB2077 RT+PT with nice clocks of 3,075Mhz@550 watts even with a higher core temp of 72c, and with rasterized games that are like Unigine heaven typically I can push as high as 3.2Ghz@64c.

Below are some examples of my FE. Worst case scenario is Ray Tracing with Path Tracing auto fan 72c@3,075Mhz@550 watts. Better case scenario is faster fan speed and 3.2Ghz in rasterized gaming scenario. That’s a +425 offset on the core in Unigine Haven 4K. The thing clocks to the moon, it’s just waiting for temp algorithm to be in its favor. 😁

People are sick of the prices. $3000+ for graphics cards (you don't use it for work) is awful. Of course 2000$ cards from Nvidia is tempting. And Nvidia know it. The perfect price point for futher scalping (move cards over to China).

Yeah it’s ridiculous. They need to make more of them. I’d give in too just like anyone else would and I’d also own an Astral lol. I think it’s what we would all end up with if given the choice to spend over 3K. I think prices in the US are even worse than your pricing and that’s a first right? I think I’m going to be watercooling my 5090. I hope EKWB does not fail us with the FE block. I have not seen anyone with one just yet. But I’m waiting.
