So, I ordered another X870E Apex and thought I would give it a second chance. BAD idea. Horrible product and worse than the first one. I submitted my RMA this morning. Fought it for 3 days. It's a piece of garbage just like the first one that I returned. The AORUS Master and Strix both overclock better than the Apex. It cannot even run 8000 C34 stable and for some reason using a Gen 5 NVMe in the top slot causes constant corruption of Windows that cannot be repaired (even using JEDEC/SPD defaults). I tried two of them and both have issues in the Apex, but not in the Master or Strix. Super disappointing that two of what is allegedly the best overclocking AM5 motherboards are rubbish and inferior to less expensive options. I spend about 36 hours moving parts back and forth between motherboards and all work flawllessly except when installed in the Apex, then everything turns to crap. I considered the idea of exchanging it, but it's not worth it. Lost two days of my life on this piece of dung and considering it is the second turd Apex... how 'bout no. Two known good CPUs, two known good memory kits and two known good Gen 5 NVMe malfunction when installed in the Apex.  I'm a two-time Apex silicon lottery winner. Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

@electrosoft@Raiderman and @jaybee83 there is a new version of ZenTimings available that shows all of the sensors for voltage now. I will test to confirm that is true on the Strix as well, but it shows all sensors on the Master. It also shows tPHYRDL is matched whereas the last beta showed them mismatched (even though it was not). Also shows the Nitro settings in the lower right corner.

Hmm. I may have identified the cause of the problem with this board. I need to investigate further to confirm the issue and if I can I will come back and share. It may be the same issue that caused me to return the first Apex. More to follow if what I think turns out to be true.

What I "think" might be the issue is using both the X4 and X1 slots simultaneously is overloading something or goofing up the PCIe bifurcation.

This is with the X1 PCIe slot empty. With it populated I get TM5 error #6 and YC 1b is like 19+ seconds.

As soon as I saw this, I thought, "Oh, he's purposely trying to trigger @Papusan and @Mr. Fox!" 🤣

Looks good! I, too, loop my connector(s) over the top of my GPUs when able so you can see the whole card and it takes a bit of the downward pull off the connector. I've done this since Ampere as an additional reason on top of aesthetics.

Hmmmm, I wish you had the other board too to see if you could reproduce this on two of them. Might need to talk to other X870e owners to try to recreate a similar test scenario to see if they can trigger a memory fail.

Having a Gen 5 NVMe, an X4 PCIe card with four NVMe and an X1 card with two NVMe may have just exhausted its resources.

BUT, it does not have that effect on the AORUS Master or Strix. I had 10 NVMe SSDs in the Master (two quad NVMe X4 cards and two in the mobo) without any issue. I have 7 in the Strix (quad NVMe and three in the mobo). With a Gen 4 NVMe in the top M.2 (Gen 5) slot and nothing in the X1 slot it seems like everything is functioning correctly, but I want to put it through all the paces.

I had to reinstall Windows several times on the Gen 5 NVMe SSD. It would get corrupted within a couple of hours to the point of BSOD and unrepairable. I am running that same NVMe in the Strix and it is working flawlessly. I have 7 NVMe installed (quad NVMe x4 card, Gen 4 in Gen 5 slot and two Gen 4 in the DIMM.2 and no more memory errors or OS corruption (so far).

LOL. I am OK with other people liking rainbow puke. Just not on my stuff. Give me white light all day. I don't even like having a solid static color that much. Just white. But, that's me. To each their own. Rainbow puke on the RAM and mobo lighting sucks, but doesn't suck as bad as the software needed to control it. I'd rather have the rainbow puke than the cancer software  bloat running in the background.

Edit: Oh, another thing seems "fixed" now. Not sure if it was the Gen 5 SSD or the X1 slot being used, but the OS on the Apex no longer temporarily freezes when launch ZenTimings. Before it would lock up for about 5 seconds when I opened ZenTimings.

I've done this since Ampere as an additional reason on top of aesthetics.

ahaha actually i have a bit of a conundrum, i can never leave any color combination or solid single color for too long before i get bored of it. so i default to rainbow, basically the compromise i can live with the longest 😄

the routing of the GPU power cable was a necessity, since the angles Seasosnic cables can only be installed in this orientation. I think I actually might have preferred to route it downwards, so as not to go over the fan cooling the RAM: but its ok, I can live with it if it means im using high quality cables that down melt on me 😛

so as mentioned, started again with RAM tuning and boy can i see that im right on the very edge of stability at DDR5-8000. My previously tuned timings arent stable anymore, so gotta find the new tight spots. Basically, every CPU and RAM install slightly changes the minimum timings i can reach 😄 im able to boot up 8100/8200/8300 and get into windows but they dont pass TM5 testing, no matter how much i loosen the timings.

anyways, back to tuning 8000, about time i finish it up together with minimizing related voltages before i turn my gaze to CPU tuning 😛

just one thing left before the new setup is complete: i need a new GPU sag bracket! cant use the previous one, since im now sporting bottom fans, so im eyeing this one by UpHere:

cant be bothered with the ARGB version, dont want a frigging CABLE hanging off my sag bracket 😄 so black n white version it is for me. length should be fine at 276mm, with the Suprim SOC at 359mm.

I use the type that mounts to the motherboard. Much cleaner and easier to use. Lian Li makes one, and Lian Li O11 cases come with an even better quality version. The GB 001 is what I would recommend for you. It does not get in the way of anything. I will never go back to the other types of GPU support brackets. These are so much better.

This one is made similarly (much less expensive) but I'm not sure I like the long reach. The GB 001 supports the GPU at the back instead of the front. That long arm might be "springy" but I think it is stilll a better design overall than the long arms that attach to the rear I/O screws or the kickstand type. The type you are looking (I have two of them) still try to sag because they have slack at the rear I/O and you have to overtighten the screws to stop it. I actually stripped the threads out of a case trying to use that type and get the screws tight enough that the GPU did not sag.

And, all of this nonsense simply because the Green Goblin refuses to acknowledge their horrible and misguided decision to force this crappy and inherently defective standard on the industry. Their mental handicap therefore becomes a problem for the entire world.

They are blinded by AI. We may have seen a different connecor/circuit design for the 5000 series if it wasn't for their tiny small FE cards. With bigger FE cards (proper PCB) we may have seen dual connectors for the 5000 series flagship.

They just need to man up and say "sorry everyone, we effed up so bad, and going forward the old standard 8-pin is the only standard forever" but they are not men. They are arrogant dweebs and greed-driven gangster losers. They have no concept of integrity and they live the opposite.

The gift that keeps on giving across all spectrum including PSUs, tentacles and AMD and Nvidia!

Ugh....

On the flipside, has anyone in this thread experienced a burned out connector?

Over on the enthusiasts forums it is indeed rare to encounter a burned connector especially at proper 600w spec.

Why can you have some throw 800w+ through their connectors on the regular or bench at 1200w+ and no problems and Bobby the Basic User burns up their connectors? Even in that realm, it is a small sample across all connectors....

How is it we all ran XOC last gen and not one burned connector among any of us?

Why is this?

Hmm. They probably max out for benchmarks. Then you have this... I expect many use clamp meter, and follow temp on the tiny trash connector like a hawk. Running the GPU on cold water help as well. Also remember how fragile the connection is. Balancing amp between the 12V pins is a nightmare. Plug in and plug out the connector and you'll get a different reading between the pins. And most of them know you shouldn't use that Yellow trash from MSI.

From OCN.net

i was also waiting on the Ampinel (apparently won't work) or Wireview Pro2 to monitor amp balance on the Ventus, since I’ll need to run very high voltage. A clamp meter isn’t an option because the cables on the ASRock PG-1600G are factory sleeved. I hate benching the Ventus “blind” without knowing the amp balance, so I avoid pushing really high voltage through it with the EVC2. I might end up using a third party cable, if the clamp meter is my only option.

Then you have different PC users...

I do not want to jinx any of us by saying too much. Is it because we do not use janky cables? Is it because we are extra careful about making sure cables are fully seated? Is it because the number that burn are a very tiny percentage that the media blows grossly out of proportion because they live or die based on click bait? Or, is it because we are lucky?

Let me see what the Magic 8 Ball says...

One thing come from my mind... Have seeing Jonny Guru at Corsair said the QC on cables is zero to none. You get the wrong product and there you go. Hi said also that the quality on never PSUs going down the latest years... New is newer bro Fox. Doesn't always mean better.
