And many on OC.net spend more money in more expensive quality products than the normy pc users.

All I'm saying is the math isn't mathing....and luck is not at play in engineering fault tolerance testing.

Plus with the user reports all we have is their subjective takes ("I swear I checked everything right before going to church and feeding the homeless!") usually rife with oversights and human error we do not know or see. All we see is the end product which is a burned cable and/or fused connection. Then people run with it.....

If the connector was that flawed, those who routinely push their cards should suffer a much noticeable higher rate of failure yet amongst the enthusiasts on the forums the rate of failure is minuscule if even that.

I've long thought this since the 4000 series and it continues to prove itself out over and over. I frequent the various enthusiast forums, enthusiast FB tech message groups, tech focused Discord along with clans and guilds chock full of 4090 and 5090 owners gaming 8-12hrs/day and more waiting for this influx of burned connectors amongst the various types used considering how hard the hardware is being pushed even on non shunted cards running max OC's constantly hitting 600-650w....yet......much ado about nothing.

I ran my 4090 OC'd from start to finish. I am doing the same with my 5090 too. One thing I do for my cards since Ampere is I run them max Underclocked when not gaming/benching then Max OC when gaming.

Look, it's a cheap part to replace for the cable. I can swap in numerous types or models if I want. That isn't the issue. Zero loyalty to a damn connector cable 🤣 The one and only time I had issues was with the CM adapter cable  I was going to use and it kept black screening and crashing and it turned out to be severely problematic and was a legitimate issue even outside of human error or potential inherent problems. The replacement one they sent me is still sitting sealed in its pouch on my shelf. I am really curious about the Ampinel and am almost 100% I'll be picking one up just out of curiosity.

And you're correct, many on OC.net DO spend more money on quality products than normies. That just adds even more weight to my argument.

With all that being said, I still wish they had stuck with 8-pin PCIe connectors but I guess with the way power consumption is going, we would end up with cards with 4-5 of them if not more at some point on certain models.

Imagine a HOF with 8 8-pin connectors..... 🤣

Picked up a MSi Gaming GTX 970 to match the one I have and EVGA GTX 760 SLI (Plus bridge)

Just loading up more and more work for my Winter break this year.

Cleaned up the EVGA 980Ti, Sapphire R9 390X, and 2x Galaxy GTX 580's (Accelero Xtreme)

Still have Sapphire R9 280X to clean up and GTX 9800 to assemble.

Have an offer sent for a pair of GTX 460's as well. Kind of limiting myself to 2-way SLI/XFire or Dual-GPU single PCB scenarios. It would be fun to do Quad-SLI GTX 9800 but I wouldnt have the space for it all.

More stupidity on its way. Both Corsair and beQuiet start remove 8-pin PCIe connectors to the bare minimum. Even for the stronger 1500W models. Now with only 2x 8-pin PCIe for powering AMD and Intel GPUs (but only one available for the GPU if your modern MB need one of them). Nice. We may see AMD and Intel going the Nvidia route once next gen cards is out.

So dumb. It seems like so many things that are new are garbage. And, the minds of the idiots driving the new ideas are broken. Stupid people producing garbage products for stupid people. The new normal.

Maybe we will see prices go down for the "old" PSUs that were made the right way.

My Thermaltake GF3 1650W PSU has two 12VHPWR connections (and cables) and like six 8-pin PCIe connections (and cables), plus the two EPS connections (and cables). It is hard to find them now because silly people don't like it because it has a powerful fan that they can hear running under heavy stress and it runs for a few seconds after you turn off the computer in order to cool off the internals. They would prefer that the PSU cook itself in silence.

So, I am continuing to have odd behavior with the Apex that is unexplainable. Can run stable for many hours and then suddenly will not boot Windows any more without a BSOD or stops booting before the BIOS screen and stays stuck on random LED Q-codes. It ran perfectly all day long yesterday and I turned it off to go to bed. When I tried to turn it on this morning it was stopping during POST with a black screen. Resetting CMOS and then applying the saved BIOS profile, it began working normally again.

So, there is something wrong with it. Changing CPU, RAM and all attached storage does not seem to matter. I reopened the RMA for a refund and purchased a new replacement. It will be delivered Friday and I will return the original and wait for the refund.

And Brother @Hiew is the new owner of the amazing AORUS Master. It is being delivered to him today.

I probably would not even try to refrain. Sleep is optional when there are new parts to be installed. 🤣

UPS tried to deliver and he was not home so he will be picking it up from a UPS location probably later today.

Hello everyone, long time no speak. Been super busy with stuff. Today I was pondering windows 7 and was wondering if this was possible? Um not too familiar on the ins and outs of hardware documentation.

I asked grok A.I. this question.

Hey brother. Hope all is well with you and your family.

That is a brilliant idea. I may have to look into that. I would love to be able to go back to Windows 7 and cannot due to lack of driver support.

New one from MSI. I wonder how many cards have been returned back to MSI. Expect this will increase as the months going forwards.

EDIT: Just to clarify, this is the yellow 12vhpwr MSI power adapter that came with the GPU. With my older power supply, it was either this adapter or a DIY power cable, and I mistakenly thought this adapter is "safer".

5090D is only Galax HOF available. Only 100 of these cards were made. I got it for about $800 over an Astral. Which in hind so hindsight is still a terrible deal lol.

But at least it’s semi unlocked and can go to 36Gbps memory.

X3D is a joke. A popular one with the Team Red kiddos, but I don't like it and don't want a silly gimmick that needs to be babied in order to get it to work right and not blow up. It's also just too stupid that the dual CCD CPUs only have it on half the CPU.

X3D is a joke. A popular one with the Team Red kiddos, but I don't like it and don't want a silly gimmick that needs to be babied in order to get it to work right and not blow up. It's also just too stupid that the dual CCD CPUs only have it on half the CPU.

If you enjoy memory overclocking then go for the cheapo package from AMD. Not sure you can enjoy +10000 MT/s with your expensive X3D package. The more you pay the more you get, LOL

G.SKILL DDR5 RAM overclocked to stable 10,600 MT/s using AMD Ryzen 5 8500G on ASUS B850 mobo

G.SKILL has announced that its team has pushed its DDR5 memory up to a MemTest stable 10,600 MT/s speeds, using the AMD Ryzen 5 8500G processor and based B850M motherboard from ASUS.

In a new post on X, G.SKILL announced its EXPO-rated DDR5-6000 CL26 48GB kit (2 x 24GB sticks) was used on an ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC motherboard and AMD Ryzen 5 8500G processor, with the RAM overclocked to an insane 10,600 MT/s.

Interestingly, the ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC motherboard is a mid-range motherboard that the company designed with overclocking in mind, but it's not in many markets yet. The test involved using standard cooling, no CPU configuration tweaks, and dual DIMMs... Normally for overclocking records on RAM, the CPU core configuration is changed, LN2 cooling is used, and a single DIMM is deployed. Not for this new stable record

I was listening to a YT go on about the connectors and he did note that many black connectors could be scorched too but you just can't see it. That gave me pause....

Outside of the discoloration, many of the burned yellow connectors are not physically changed (while some clearly are). It makes me wonder how many have scorched their connectors in daily use and don't even know it? Good early detection system.

Maybe in the future all makers should make the actual insertion portion white/red/yellow so you can clearly see if there is some scorching or discoloration going on in daily use....

Sometimes I feel like I make the worst decisions. Found this card brand new from a small shop in Florida.

Nah bro! Your worst decisions allow us to continue to live vicariously through your purchasing decisions! 🙂

Looking forward to your results and $800 over an Astral actually isn't terrible seeing as the XOC vBIOS hasn't shown up for us mere mortals in almost 9 months and counting....

Congrats bro. Both 4000 and 5000 series HOF have a nice clean design. Did you get the Galax XOC software?

It just works. Why change to the new and shiny if the old still works bro @Mr. Fox

LOL

I think I said this before, but once you exhaust that cache things can get wonky depending on the game but if the game can 100% sit in that cache it's lights out wins for AMD every time. Problem is games are getting bigger and bigger and texture active and look ahead calls can tank that cache super fast. AMD (and Intel even) need to increase that cache size even more now. But for AMD and X3D you need to tune your system just like Intel so when you do fall outside of the cache your system is ready to minimize the hit as much as possible.

Take a game like Fallout 76 due to the engine age everything sits in the cache at all times and it just destroys Intel and scarily so. Ironically, their GPUs can't hold a candle to Nvidia's cards in Fallout 76. Best combo continues to be X3D + Nvidia GPUs.

WoW on the other hand started off with Intel having such smooth, consistent lows that the overall gameplay was better but recently with newer updates across the board, I'm no longer getting that chunk or stuttering with AMD and I haven't in quite awhile after switching to the 9800X3D.

On the other hand, that tuned 59/45/60 tuned SP109 14900KS in the wife's system and 9070xt at 1440p Ultra 10 max RT is an absolute beast and with the newest drivers from AMD and refinements from Blizzard in Tazevesh it is locked at 165fps just about everywhere now. All the previous issues with AMD cards on WoW are a thing of the past and I continue to be very impressed with the 9070xt.

275hx in my Alienware is holding it down nicely keeping that 5070ti mobile pegged to 100%....

Basically, shut up and play....  🤣

Looking good!

Is there a particular reason you decided to downsize one of your Gigabutt boards and keep smashing your noggin against the wall trying Apex boards over and over....and over? 🤣

Hopefully with next gen AMD chips really addressing the fabric issues in a major way, this will be a thing of the past and we'll get cache on both chips. While it was a pipe dream for the 9950X3D with both CCDs having X3D, logically with its latency and fabric issues, it just didn't make sense.

I wanted to see if I can go further with the memory overclock. Not that it matters on AMD much even if I do, but it's something to help me not be bored. The Master was an amazing motherboard at a hardware level. I still think it is a better motherboard than the Apex in terms of features and usability, and the intelligence of the design overall. At a firmware level it was not better. I liked everything about it except the firmware and 4 memory slots. I do not use WiFi or BT and their omission of an option in the BIOS to disable that and the onboard audio bothered me. What made it worse is the fact that the trashy new WiFi 7 modules do not have Windows 10 driver support.  I found myself gravitating more toward the Strix because of the more robust ASUS firmware, and having the ability to disable the WiFi, BT and onboard audio. I use LAN and USB DAC and I am always a fan of disabling the functionality of crap that I don't want to use. I also like DIMM.2 a lot. I still think that whoever designed the PCIe slot layout and idiotic bifurcation on the Apex was either drunk, a sadistic prankster or just plain stupid. They seem to have collaborated with the designers of the Taichi to make something desirable a less usable product. Even the Strix is made more intelligently than the Apex in terms of PCIe slot placement and bifurcation.
