Hi, everyone. Back from the hospital but I'm still not in good shape as before. It will take some time. Slower talking and the right hand (mouse hand) not exactly where it should be. But hopefully it will be better. Stroke is and have been a terrifying experience. And it scares me. Yep, I am really scared this illness. It takes life and can push you into a wheelchair without you notice it where you can't speak or hear. Not even move yourself. Still a small chance to get second one within the next 3 months. After that a bigger chance to get on live again. I was very lucky as the doctors said, not Being Hit harder. Medication for this shit will help me move forward. And I'll probably have to take it for the rest of my life.

And thank you all you good friends for the kind and warming words🙂

Thank you for the update, brother. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. We are reaching an age where things like this can really be stressful (emotionally and financially) for us and our loved ones. Our mortality becomes more evident to us and we become thankful for small things we once took for granted. Circumstances like this have the potential to strengthen our faith or produce uncertainty, fear and doubt. Keep the faith, brother. We are standing with you in spirit as you walk through this thorny pathway.

I think my 5080 is defective. Been trying to play some games longer than a couple minutes. And it just hard locks my entire PC up after about 10 minutes of playing.

Tried different drivers, reseating the GPU in a different slot, tried DDU. Nothing helps. I have completely reset my PC bios to all stock settings.

I Flashed the 5080 back to its original bios, no difference at all.

Same crashing no matter the game. 3Dmark stress test fails at 0.00% every time.

Well, that sucks. Can you test it in a different computer to see if it behaves the same? That would tell you for certain. Worst case scenario, Tony at Nortwest Repair could fix it for you. Does it still have the factory tamper sticker on the screw head or has it been taken apart by the prior owner?

Back to the seller it goes! How did you pay for it? Zotac warranties are non-transferable last I checked so hopefully you can return it.

Nah man, I got the full brunt on this one. I bought it on Face Book market place, did some very quick sessions with it like running a game for all of 1-2 minutes, ran a single steel nomad benchmark lol. And works fine in 2D applications and will run however long you need in 2D, but under 3D load it is locking up the PC after 5-10 minutes or the 2nd Steel nomad pass lol, I have tried all sorts of things and it just won’t let you game more than about 10 minutes. I tried my son’s GPU in my system, and that works just fine. No locking up. But, did not try this 5080 in his system. I suppose there is no point in that now. I am 100% certain the GPU is defective.

Test it in your son's system just to confirm and then reach out to Tony at Northwest Repair. You can go to his YouTube channel and the about page for info how to contact him. I had him repair bad memory on a 2080 Ti for me before his channel got wide notoriety. Super nice guy. It's probably something like a broken solder joint that is affected by temperature and 3D load causing it to act up. His prices are reasonable.

Edit: Here is his contact info... He is in the Portland, Oregon area.

Might as well take it apart and take a look then. Might be a thermal compound placement issue, stress issue or something else you can see. The fact it even lets you game for ~10 minutes is encouraging. Make sure to run individual stress tests on the VRAM and Core separately. If it is defective, hopefully it is a memory module at worse or a minor board issue.

Did you at least reach back out to the seller since he's local?

Looking good? I just saw 1.0.6 of the WVP2 software is available while I was giving my system the ultra clean install / updates.

I do have a question, do other 5090 owners get a default driver from M$ for their 5090s? I never have for my Vanguard and can't remember if I got one for my Astral or Ventus in the past on clean install and letting Windows run its updates. It's always M$ Basic Video Adapter which works for me.

Yes, downloaded the latest software/firmware when I installed the WireView Pro II today. It was software version 1.0.6 and the firmware is v04.

I cannot say whether or not Micro$lop has a default 5090 driver that installs because I do not allow Windoze to update any drivers. I disable that functionality and install my own. Hopefully another 5090 owner can chime in since I can't provide anything useful with regard to this.

Some update. Have been to my personal doctor today. Also got my epikrise from the hospital to keep home. I had stroke two places in my brain on left side. But got further info from the epikrise...  I have had several small strokes in the frontallap before. I never knew that before. Very rare I have been in an mr machine the last years. So my  doctor said I have been pretty damn lucky.

My main problem is high bloodpressure (also one of the reasons for stoke outside my higher colestrole). They need to reduce it further. Both the bloodpressure and colestole. But each new dose medicines need to  work 3-4weeks to see an effect. Not fun sit here with high bloodpressure and know the risk is still high for a possibel second stroke. But the medicines need to start work properly  before they can or should increase doses. The bad coletrole need to be pushed down to 1.4-1.8 if you have had stroke. So here I  sit  waiting yet another 3-4 weeks to see if things may be better😟 As well, forbidden to drive a car the next +3 months. Yup, fun times. I just love it!

Thank you for the update, brother. I am glad they are helping get things under control. The reason hypertension is often called "the silent kiler" is because it sneaks up on you quietly and usually has no symptoms. No, it is never any fun waiting to see if treatment worked. I know exactly how unpleasant that feels and can empathize. The cycle of test > treat > wait > retest sucks. The anticipation of the unknown is psychologically difficult and time changes from seeming to fly to a slow creep. The important thing is that they discovered the need and action is being taken. That is a blessing to you and all that know and love you.
