Papusan Posted Tuesday at 03:20 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:20 PM Hi, everyone. Back from the hospital but I'm still not in good shape as before. It will take some time. Slower talking and the right hand (mouse hand) not exactly where it should be. But hopefully it will be better. Stroke is and have been a terrifying experience. And it scares me. Yep, I am really scared this illness. It takes life and can push you into a wheelchair without you notice it where you can't speak or hear. Not even move yourself. Still a small chance to get second one within the next 3 months. After that a bigger chance to get on live again. I was very lucky as the doctors said, not Being Hit harder. Medication for this shit will help me move forward. And I'll probably have to take it for the rest of my life. And thank you all you good friends for the kind and warming words🙂 Intel Nova Lake Samples Reportedly Begin Shipping With Huge Multi-Core Gains 1 4 "The Killer" ASUS Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KS | 4090 HOF + 20 other graphics cards | 32GB DDR5 | Be Quiet! tps3443 Posted Tuesday at 08:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:55 PM I think my 5080 is defective. Been trying to play some games longer than a couple minutes. And it just hard locks my entire PC up after about 10 minutes of playing. Tried different drivers, reseating the GPU in a different slot, tried DDU. Nothing helps. I have completely reset my PC bios to all stock settings. I Flashed the 5080 back to its original bios, no difference at all. Same crashing no matter the game. 3Dmark stress test fails at 0.00% every time. 4 13900KF

I bought it on Face Book market place, did some very quick sessions with it like running a game for all of 1-2 minutes, ran a single steel nomad benchmark lol. And works fine in 2D applications and will run however long you need in 2D, but under 3D load it is locking up the PC after 5-10 minutes or the 2nd Steel nomad pass lol, I have tried all sorts of things and it just won’t let you game more than about 10 minutes. I tried my son’s GPU in my system, and that works just fine. No locking up. But, did not try this 5080 in his system. I suppose there is no point in that now. I am 100% certain the GPU is defective. 1 2 13900KF

Might as well take it apart and take a look then. Might be a thermal compound placement issue, stress issue or something else you can see. The fact it even lets you game for ~10 minutes is encouraging. Make sure to run individual stress tests on the VRAM and Core separately. If it is defective, hopefully it is a memory module at worse or a minor board issue. I cannot say whether or not Micro$lop has a default 5090 driver that installs because I do not allow Windoze to update any drivers. I disable that functionality and install my own. Hopefully another 5090 owner can chime in since I can't provide anything useful with regard to this. I had stroke two places in my brain on left side. But got further info from the epikrise... I have had several small strokes in the frontallap before. I never knew that before. Very rare I have been in an mr machine the last years. So my doctor said I have been pretty damn lucky. My main problem is high bloodpressure (also one of the reasons for stoke outside my higher colestrole). They need to reduce it further. Both the bloodpressure and colestole. But each new dose medicines need to work 3-4weeks to see an effect. Not fun sit here with high bloodpressure and know the risk is still high for a possibel second stroke. But the medicines need to start work properly before they can or should increase doses. The bad coletrole need to be pushed down to 1.4-1.8 if you have had stroke. So here I sit waiting yet another 3-4 weeks to see if things may be better😟 As well, forbidden to drive a car the next +3 months. Yup, fun times. I am glad they are helping get things under control. The reason hypertension is often called "the silent kiler" is because it sneaks up on you quietly and usually has no symptoms. No, it is never any fun waiting to see if treatment worked. I know exactly how unpleasant that feels and can empathize. The cycle of test > treat > wait > retest sucks. The anticipation of the unknown is psychologically difficult and time changes from seeming to fly to a slow creep. The important thing is that they discovered the need and action is being taken. The fact you suffered several small strokes and escaped relatively unscathed is such a blessing. Your body is telling you to get that stress and blood pressure under control ASAP. Even if your BP runs high the medicines will greatly slow stiffening of the arteries and sudden spikes. That is the real magic of them for potential strokes and heart attacks. My mom had a small stroke at 59 because her sugars were high (A1c = 13+), cholesterol through the roof (300+) and blood pressure through the roof (190/100+) daily due to no exercise and a horrific diet along with bad medicine management and genetics. She figured she could eat whatever she wanted and just had to slam a needle full of insulin into her leg and that would do the trick. She actually went into a coma for two weeks. Testing showed she had suffered many small strokes undetected at the time. Came out scared, followed the program religiously dropped weight, got much healthier then 4 months later fell off and went back to her old habits even though was on her like cold on ice but to no avail. Gained back all the weight plus some extra. A year later she suffered a major stroke, lost all function of her left side, impaired speech and passed away a few months later. She was 60. This is the time you take control brother. Genetics are what they are, but you control how you move and what you eat. If you're a smoker, time to quit. Heavy drinker? Time to cut back. Time to get that diet under control, get your medicines sorted out and come back as @Papusan 2.0 meaner and grumpier! 🤣❤️ 1 2 Electrosoft Alpha: 9800X3D | Asus X870E Hero Crosshair | MSI Vanguard RTX 5090 OC | AC LF II 420 | TG 2x24GB 8200 @ 8000 tuned | Samsung 9100 Pro 2TB | EVGA 1600w P2 | Phanteks Ethroo Pro | Asus XG32UQDMS 32" QD-OLED Heath: i9-14900KS SP109 | AC LF III 360 | Asus Strix Z690 D4 | Gigabyte 9070XT Gaming OC Edition| 32GB DDR4 2x16GB B-Die 4000 | Samsung 980 1TB Pro | Antec Flux Pro | Alienware AW3225QF 32" OLED Electrosoft Mobile: Alienware Area-51 18 | 275HX | Nvidia RTX 5070ti | 32GB DDR5 6400 |Gen 5 2TB | 18" QHD | WiFi 7

tps3443 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Just an update. I have another issue going on with my computer.. Both 5080’s crash and lock up my PC. Yes I bought a brand new one from Newegg lol. (Now I have two) I am not sure what it could be. My system was perfectly fine when I unplugged my 5090 at the very end of 02/2026. Now here I am in 05/2026 and it’s locking up after 5 minutes of rendering anything 3D. I have two functional 5080’s it seems. Maybe bad PSU? I have ran R24 and Ycruncher and those run fine . 2 1 13900KF

This is exactly why I urged testing it in your son's computer. It is certainly possible that there might be something wrong with the 12VHPWR cable or the PSU. I would also look closely at the PCIe slot to make sure there is not some fuzz or other debris inside of the slot that is blocking contact with the contacts on the GPU. If your motherboard is PCIe 4.0 I would also try manually setting the PCIe speed for the GPU slot to whatever its maximum spec is rather than leaving it set to Auto. Are you going to try to return the new one, or give your son a nice upgrade? 1 1 WRAITH | X870E Apex | 9950X | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 @ 8200 | O11D XL EVO | HC-500A Chiller BANSHEE | B850MPOWER | 4585PX | RTX 5080 | 48GB DDR5 @ 8000 | O11D Mini V2 Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT

Previous cable was a Lian Li 12vhpwr to 12vhpwr. Now I’m trying a 2x8pin to 12vhpwr. If this fails I will try another PSU. I cleaned the PCIe slots with MAF automotive cleaner. It’s great! It leaves behind zero residues unlike how alcohol can. I pulled all (12) ram sticks and cleaned those as well. I’m thinking CPU socket pins could be suspect as well if a new PSU+cable doesn’t resolve the issue. Maybe the shunt modded 5090 was just too hard on the little 1200 unit or its cable…😂 Would be curious to just test both cards and see which is the best!!! 2 1 13900KF

Sounds like switching the cable might do the trick if you are passing a SN stress test. Much further than you had gotten before from the way it sounds. Were you able to look at the PSU end of the 12VHPWR cable? If that adapter is working it could be the cable or the PSU, or maybe a bad connection on the PSU end of the cable (or melted at the PSU end). 1 WRAITH | X870E Apex | 9950X | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 @ 8200 | O11D XL EVO | HC-500A Chiller BANSHEE | B850MPOWER | 4585PX | RTX 5080 | 48GB DDR5 @ 8000 | O11D Mini V2 Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT

Much further than you had gotten before from the way it sounds. Were you able to look at the PSU end of the 12VHPWR cable? As much as I love my 5090 and I am glad that I have it, at current prices I would not even consider buying one again. The 5080 is a little weaker than a 4090 but out of the three options it is the only GPU that makes any sense financially. If you can even find a good used 4090 they are selling for prices that are just about as stupid as 5090 prices. I really like my 5080. I didn't feel dirty or like an idiot after buying it based on the price. 1 1 WRAITH | X870E Apex | 9950X | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 @ 8200 | O11D XL EVO | HC-500A Chiller BANSHEE | B850MPOWER | 4585PX | RTX 5080 | 48GB DDR5 @ 8000 | O11D Mini V2 Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT

Today’s prices are nuts. 5080 is a value and gets the job done!! Gone are the days of high end affordable GPU’s. It’s a rich man’s club now. EDIT: So happy I found the issue! When that 2nd brand new Zotac RTX 5080 locked my PC up, I was concerned and relieved at the same time. Relieved that the RTX 5080 was not defective. But also worried what the issue could be. The bad cable was ran daily on a shunt modded 5090FE, so it must have took the cable out I guess. What’s weird though, is I had no issues running the 5090FE up until the day I pulled it from the system. So I think maybe it sitting it just degraded? It’s so weird. I’m going to do some testing now and see which is the best GPU! I would prefer a low voltage low power queen if I had to pick. I don’t know what all the fuss or hate about Zotac is either. Both of these cards are built incredibly well. I had a Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC, and that thing felt like a Dollar General toy lol. 😂 these cards feel nice and look very high quality. 1 1 13900KF

Their warranty sucks, but the same can be said of other brands. A$$zeus and Gigabutt look for excuses to deny warranty for totally illegitimate reasons. A warranty that isn't honored because a company is dishonest is the same as having no warranty. Tony from Northwest Repair has mentioned in several videos that the Zotac GPUs are very well made. I think he has even said they are the best built. They have fuses to protect them and some of the more popular and more expensive brands do not. 1 WRAITH | X870E Apex | 9950X | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 @ 8200 | O11D XL EVO | HC-500A Chiller BANSHEE | B850MPOWER | 4585PX | RTX 5080 | 48GB DDR5 @ 8000 | O11D Mini V2 Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT

This become a problem because you had good contact in first place. Once removed and the connection will break and you get a problem. Cables have now become a consumable items. I mean the tiny trash called 12V-2x6. Those cannot be reused as the good old 8-pin cables. Benching the old gpu's ain't very fun anymore because you need to take out and in your new and shiny GPU if you want the newest in you rig after bench sessions. The modern cables ain't up to task. This tiny trash ruined my hobby. 1 1 "The Killer" ASUS Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KS | 4090 HOF + 20 other graphics cards | 32GB DDR5 | Be Quiet!
