It used to be that the OC version was actually a different GPU, but looking at the specs for most of them today it seems more like a scam, with the power limits and voltage in the firmware and hardware build seeming to be exactly the same from what I can tell. It looks like you are just paying extra for a vBIOS with maybe a 50MHz higher boost clock. There might be some OC versions with different hardware, but I have not noticed any. It's unfortunate that the OC versions do not have a 200-500MHz higher default boost clock.

Thanks. I want G-sync, to be able to sell it later in the used market. Easier to sell it for a good price. I buy new tech people want in the used market to reduce the loss. And I doubt I will save much money without it. I think 1440P is perfect. I have put up my sons system with the same monitor (we both bough the same due me wanted it and got the great deal). And I really really like it. But then, he bought the 3070 and not an 4090. I struggle to find monitors above 170hz in 1440P with or without G-sync. And most of the reviews of gaming monitors is with G-sync.

I hate curved screeens. I really really do. And the curved monitors with the special low but long design is awful. Have tested those in the shops. Huge nope from me.

Thanks.

I asked because many reviews say 4090 is a wast with 1440P. But I prefer monitors below 30" in size and 4K is probably worse to look at due my old eyes. Can't have everything in this world. 4K and easy to see all text. Even smaller details in pict etc will be a problem.

Here is the different G-Sync screens Nvidia have on their page.... https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/

Me want only 27-29" and with G-sync and maximum high refresh at 1440P (4K). If I swap out the 1440P I have now it has to be with real G-sync or and with higher refresh rate. Same for 4K screen but minimum 144hz and  real G-sync. If I can't reach those goals I will keep what I bought. And if the other monitor options will be too expensive then I will as well keep what I bought.

Why non OC editions? Due the price? I like to thinker with performance, maybe not the best options for me then. And I won't save much money here home between non OC and the OC editions.

I mean will you extract maximum performance out of your 4090 at 1440p ? No, but it will lead the pack no problem. It just really shines at 4k where it definitively separates from the pack. You will pack plenty of headroom as games get more taxing at 1440p along with it having more scalability as CPUs get more powerful too.

I'm all for going for the cheapest models since many still tend to clock up 2900+ but for the cards themselves, if price is no object at all I would go for:

MSI Suprim X 4090

Asus Strix 4090

Asus TUF 4090

ZOTAC RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO isn't a bad pick either.

My picks for 7900xtx models would be:

Nitro+ 7900xtx vapor chamber

XFX Merc 7900xtx

Asrock Taichi 7900xtx

Yep, different times now. Nvidia lead the direction. They offer same max TGP now for the FE edition as the best custom cards. They even offer higher TGP than what many of the AIC partners offer for their cheaper SKUs.

I need find more reviews as thiis with several models against each other https://www.tweaktown.com/articles/10228/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-oc-shootout-asus-colorful-fe-msi-gainward/index.html

Yep, If I keep the card and games being more taxing and we get faster processors I can see 1440P will match 4090 better. Maybe max out everything for now. But I need to take a look how 4K in 27” size match my eyes before I determine what to do . I have 60 days return policy for my new screen.

The more potent of the well known brands OC editions is easier to sell used and this will reduce my losses vs. going for the cheapest non oc editions. So not much gaining go for the non oc edition if the price difference is minimal (100$). And the design will also count in for my second try on 4090. The Msi 4090 X Liquid had a very nice design. But as I already mentioned, it will be a aircooled card this time.

Thanks to you both🙂

Someone has a 13900KS on overclock forums. They posted screenshots and SP ratings.

The 13900KS runs 5.6Ghz all cores, and it will boost (2) cores to 6.0Ghz.

The chip has an overall SP rating of SP105, and a P-Core SP of 115, and a E-Core SP of SP85.

Either way, SP115 P-Cores is definitely far above the average for what the normal 13900K is.

If the results from Igor's binning are an accurate example of the norm this is an improvement. Not massive, but still better than average. That said, it would have to be or they would not be able to justify the new SKU. We also do not know if that person has a poor, average or superior 13900KS sample. If it is a poor sample, a good or great sample might be truly amazing in comparison.

I guess the price, along with all-P+E core, ring and memory overclocking capacity, will tell us whether or not it represents a good value. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out once they are widely available for purchase.

It is definitely an improvement. Average P-Core SP for 13900K was only like SP106. Now we don’t know if that 13900KS is average or maybe it’s below average.

We’ll have to wait and see. But at least you are guaranteed a better chip with the 13900KS.

Or it could be (but, hopefully not) better than average. Hopefully, it is a poor sample. A minor improvement should not result in more than a minor price increase... but, I expect we will see more than a minor premium for the "S" variant. This is probably going to suck for people that paid a premium for used 13900K CPUs with a superior bin quality.

I am wondering if it’s gonna be like the 12900KS. Lower SP 12900KS was actually better than higher SP 12900K.

I’ll say the VID’s don’t look very good on it though compared to my SP121 P-Core.

I’m sure Intel test these chips for other abilities and not just SP rating alone. They could scale really well for all we know. I know the 12900KS had a +300Mhz all core boost over the 12900K. That’s huge! But the 13900KS only has a +100Mhz boost over the 13900K.

I believe they launch on January 3rd. Who’s buying one? I think they’ll be awesome because you’re guaranteed at least a better bin. And it’ll clock good enough. SP115+ P-Cores is definitely no slouch. That’s an extremely good 13900K.

I suspect it will likely not be a straight across SP rating between K and KS. And, you are right. SP rating is not the definitive indicator of a strong CPU that overclocks well. It is a very useful tool, but it is possible to have a CPU with a lower SP rating that performs better and overclocks further than one with a higher SP rating, albeit using more voltage.

It is not very likely that I will purchase one. I might if the price is close to the same as 13900K, but I probably would not be willing to spend much more than maybe $100 extra for it. Time will tell.

I am officially a Ulltrawide curved screen addict, after i got my samsung g9 neo i cannot go back to something smaller or flat 😁

This will be a problem in the  future when i want a new screen because they will be expensive like hell, the successor of the g9 if  rumors are true will be an 8k screen and will cost a kidney😑

I switched to second bios and flashed a new firmware. The newer version on bios 1 can’t be rolled back. Asus sucks hard… https://www.overclock.net/threads/official-asus-strix-maximus-z690-owners-thread.1794802/post-29104615

At least you know what to get from Asus....

image.thumb.png.eaf4cd46b6dbcdf2ec78fd80f41680eb.png

The improvements come in v2004. The newest withdrawn v2301 from the server was meant to tune it further but Asus drag it too far with more bugs, LOOL

image.png.19872a1673127aa2d77c1d0314fbcb4d.png

The flashing went well and got back into bios then loaded bios default. I didn’t got the time to press enter and restart before the damn power blow out in the area and here home. Now sitting in the dreaded dark. 2 minutes earlier and I would sit with a bricked machine (2nd bios). Yep, flashing firmware in stormy Norwegian winter weather here home without a UPS is risk sport😁

The electricity is back now. This happens a lot here during the winter. All use a lot electricity to heat up their homes due the hard climate here.

The machine booted up as expected.

Two days ago I flashed 3 firmware versions for my sons new machine. This board have only one bios. No backup chips. But the version I flashed last will keep him up until his next platform upgrade. So works very well. Thanks god it wasn’t his machine I worked with now.

Yep, with Asus messed up bios updates you’ll need a second bios chips because they avoid put a proper upgrade change log. Beta bios or the official one… All sucks!!! Sadly all brands sucks nowadays. None offer awesome.

So i bite the bullet and ordered  a zotac 4090 amp extreme aero 😬.. I really wanted to go with a sapphire 7900xtx nitro but they arrived at mindfactory in Germany for a whopping 1480 euro!

To expensive.. For the zotac i paid 1750 from Amazon after i used my points and i got some Amazon coupons for Xmas from family, so it was a no brainer for 350 euros more the 4090 is the choice, its  an a class of its own.

I went with the zotac because of the 5 year guarantee and i think its the only one beside the fe that pass in upright mount in my lian li o11 dynamic evo.  Build quality is good,  pcb got 24  phases and there is not that loud coil whine like the Asus cards.

The only negatives are from what i read the noisy fans and the power goes only to 500 watt but i can flash the strix bios for 600 if i want it.

Lets see how is the coil sound and fans when it arrives.

well well well! seems like u got the card i initially was planning to buy! congratz and welcome to the 4090 club 😎 its lonely up here, so far away from any other gpu right now LOL

huh cool, so looks like they finally uploaded that vBios... tbh, i expected more watts though LOL. have u tried flashing it yet? still need to catch up on overclock.net 4090 owner's lounge, pretty sure someone has already cross flashed that vbios onto their 4090 already. so much forum reading and hardware tweaking to do, but so little time, sight...

The current GPU prices still being elevated has nothing to do with crypto. If anything, miners selling their GPUs have been driving prices down. It has to do with silicon shortages (tsmcdicks, autodicks, aidicks), as well as scalperdicks and of course nvidiadicks 🙂

sounds like a sausage party ruining GPU prices for us 😄

Intel shelves Raja Koduri, out of the GPU unit, back to Chief Architect position

Intel has announced that its former boss of the AXG graphics division will be shelved, moving back to his previous role as Intel Chief Architect... a sign that the GPU division of Intel is in serious trouble.

not really surprised by this i must say... all signs, at least currently, are pointing towards Intel's dGPU downfall. rumour mill states that they only have a single mid to low end silicon SKU in the pipe for Battlemage and still a measly two for Celestial (if they even get that far).

splitting their GPU group into two entities, one for consumers and one for business / professionals is nothing new, they did the same with Larrabee...before its imminent downfall 😅so lets see where the chips will fall....

AMD Locked Radeon RX 7000 Series Power Play Tables, Limiting Overclocking

Overclocking expert @Buildzoid1 on Twitter recently shared a post discussing his frustrations with AMD's overclocking capabilities on the RX 7000 series. Apparently, AMD has locked power play table manipulation on its new GPUs, preventing enthusiasts from customizing power and frequency curves outside their official specifications.

this sucks. so far pretty "meh" showing of RDNA3. nevertheless, i wholeheartedly think that their chiplet approach will do wonders for AMD in the mid to long term, especially if Nvidia`s only answer remains higher wattage, larger silicon and bigger coolers... that aint gonna work for too long. didnt work for Intel either and voila they pulled E-Cores out of their hat 😄

No RT on in this comparison.

In a raster shoot out the 7900xtx is actually a decent card with ~4080 levels of performance and some of the games that favor AMD put it closer to a 4090 than a 4080.

For a pure raster gaming card I'd have no problems using a 7900xtx depending on my preferred games.

agreed, it is actuallyn quite decent...but only that, unfortunately. community at large just expected way more, AMD promised too much via their raw specs and initial performance indications at 1.7+ gains vs. RDNA2, which turned out to be more like 1.3-1.4 in the end...just not enough to REALLY compete with Nvidia.....yet.

Interesting info on the top 5 4090 cards. Very damning for ASUS and their sucky warranty service and poor reliability (I know... my surprised look is not on my face about that) is found starting at 6:13.

nice find bro@cylix and yep as usually perfectly put uncle FOX 😄 interesting vid you posted btw, was surprised to see the discrepancy between MSI's warranty period (i myself had trouble finding hard facts as to their official warranty periods for gpus, like....wth) and their historical build quality / hardware endurance / failure rate. kinda reminds me of how their 4090 Suprim lineup is the most overbuild of all SKUs in terms of VRM quality, amperage and total amount, but at the same time their stock vBios only peaks at 520/530W vs other crappy entry cards like the Gigabutt Gaming OC offering up to 600W. but ah well, who cares, just crossflash and bobs your uncle... no wait, its Fox! 😄

Thats why i went with the zotac. Nice card long warranty  and it fits in the case 😆

ah whatta time we live in... gpus being judged by their RGB, loudness / coil whine, ability NOT to burst into flames and NOT to crash your PSU and, most importantly: fitting inside your case 🤣

100%. If I were going to buy a 4090 it would be the Zotac Amp Extreme AIRO. I probably would not even bother looking at other options. Short of that option, it would be an MSI GPU. I would end up wanting to block it for sure, but I think Zotac also has the best aesthetic of all of the air cooled options. The ASUS trash is overpriced and the warranty service too shoddy and shady to even consider it, and the Gigabutt options are pretty lackluster and I think theirs are uglier than any other GPUs except for the gaudiness of the Galax HOF (hard to match tacky looking tech on that order of magnitude). I think I would just save $400-$600+ and settle for a PNY 4090 XLR8 before I would give my money/scalp to the goons at ASUS or Gigabutt.

huh, that reasoning sounds familiar, wonder why..... 😄😉

Yes i am really happy i got the zotac. Its fits well in my case with the corsair 12vhpwr cable. Also there's is almost no coil whine and the fans are quiet.  Temps are good got like 65 degree at 450w power draw. The form is also good looking.

awesome man, again: welcome to the 4090 club! have u crossflashed anything yet? does it sport dual vBios? u still on the lookout for upcoming X3D Zen4 chips? also curious if their RAM speed capability will be improved, would be nice to close the gap to RPL in this regard. although, to be fair, those crazy 7000+ speeds on Intel are all on Gear 2, whereas all Zen4 speeds are just rated at Gear 1.

Got the confirmation today. The refund have come from the MSI 4090 I sent back. Sent it in 18. Dec and it took 11 days. So all good. Now the hunt is started again after a new 4090.

As from my post above... I have still the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ monitor in the package. A very good monitor from what I have seen in reviews. I have a few questions to the gamers... @Talon @electrosoft @johnksss

This monitor I bought is an G-sync compatible. Not a real G-sync screen with the nvidia chips. I will pair it with an 4090. Is 1440P ok to use with the card or do I need a 4K screen to have benefits from 4090? Is 4090 overkill for 1440P? I expect newer games at 1440P 3 years down the road will tax 4090 more than with todays games.

I feel 1440P may be the better choice for me. And above 30" is too big. Hence the questions.

If you suggest 4K screen at 27-28", what screen to buy and with come with full G-sync.

What 1440P 27-28" screen to select with full G-synk. Not only G-sync compatible.

And of course refresh Rate at minimum 144Hz. Faster is better especially with 1440P.

Or maybe you suggest that I keep the monitor I already bought. Got it for a very good deal... 449$ included the awful Norwegian tax. The price would be around 340$ without the taxes. I mean this a very great price. But lack full G-sync.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second. I returned my MSI 4090 liquid X. I really liked the card, but prefer air cooling for a fast swap between different cards (my hobby). What to select.

Not much choices of 4090 here home. And FE is a no go. Hence I'll ask for 3 options you would vote for. Not so sure the Zotac boat is the design I want. But put it in if you feel to do that. The best cooling is important.

Thanks.

1440p is kind of a waste right now with a 4090, itll be CPU bottlenecked, in some instances even with a 13900K overclock balls to the wall. personally, id always wanna put the system bottleneck on the most expensive component in the system, thus the gpu. anything else would be a waste of resources. thus id recommend 4K. scaling is not a problem if u need larger icons / text, etc. but the overall image crispness / clarity / sharpness is just nice to have 🙂

HUB just posted a nice vid ranking their monitors of 2022, if you need a nice overview on current models:

as for 4090 air cooled cards, Zotac AIRO sports the longest warranty at 5 years in europe, whereas Suprim X has the beefiest overall power delivery in terms of amount, amperage rating and quality of VRMs. so these were the two i was most interested in. in the end i got the latter because i got it at MSRP and with next day delivery 😄 happy with the purchase so far!

This will be a problem in the  future when i want a new screen because they will be expensive like hell, the successor of the g9 if  rumors are true will be an 8k screen and will cost a kidney😑

i feel ya man, i absolutely LOVE this gorgeous Neo G8 im looking at right now 😄 but im actually glad i didnt go for the Neo G9, wouldve just been WAY too wide for my desk space hahaha. plus no headaches about non-standard aspect ratios. but the Neo lineup is beastly in general, no doubt about it.

regarding the G9 8K successor, i wouldnt worry about it. everything so far indicates that a jump to 8K is just a gimmick and will not bring any actual visual fidelity advantage over 4K. so enjoy your monitor for years to come bud! i know i will! especially at 240 Hz, not even a 4090 can max that out, so itll take at least 2 additional GPU generations to be able and even touch that....and even then only the halo top end SKU.

Everything come at a price, brother. I bought a big Bacon Burger and 1/2L Coke on the gas station in the middle Christmas holidays. 238 Nok for the burger and 60 Nok for the Coke.  kr298.00  = 30.50 USD

Source: https://nok.currencyrate.today/convert/amount-298-to-usd.html

Then do your math.... 238,- for the burger will be.... 28,71 USD🤢 Any higher at the gas station? Then multiply that by 4 for those who were in the car. More like 122,00 USD for 4 burgers and 4 Coke on the go. My gosh puke2.gif.baba6e175f2e28584669290e298c0cc9.gif

Welcome back. Yes thanks, 4090 didn't give any choice, its the best right now and had a big gap in front of the xtx and for the pricd difference is a no brainer..

I didnt try any new bios but the zotac has 2 so you can flash a separete one. I saw on a forum someone flashed the 666w on a tuf card and it got around 630 w power draw and he said the colorful bios is better as the strix one.  The only thing that i got to do quick is uv at around 0,95 and put 1000+ on memory and its stable.  Like this in bf 2042 is getting 250 w and in cyberpunk with rt psycho ist around 320 350 power draw.  I hope to get more time with the card after new years eve. But for sure the 4090 its a beast of a card.

About x3d chips it looks like we will get them at ces 2023 so no long way to go.

Thank you.  C'mon over. Will make some fajitas and guacamole and wash it down with Chelada.

Yeah, I am not liking that idea about retiring later. I wish I could do it now, but can't afford to. And, Brandon has already destroyed a massive chunk (2-3 years worth of retirement income) of my nest egg with his retarded economic agenda. I have lost almost as much as I made on my 401K while Mr. T was in office.

I'm sure I can do +90db. And I still hear the awful sound in my head even after the pc is turned ofCIGAR.gif.2b8a33d6bb99b10e2acd1e1a2145e49c.gif You still want them bro @tps3443? Maybe buy18 of them. They are damn cheap, but awful sound and most likly not the best cooling I have seen. Now you are warned.

The fan from HELL. This 4000 rpm server fan is loud. But not so so it is more powerful than my Noctua 3000 and 3000 rpm EK-Vardar Furious.

Finally had some time test more with the fans from HELL. From what I can see... They provide almost nothing in increased cooling performance if you run they at full speed (4000rpm) vs lowering the speed down to 3000rpm or 3/4 of its rated speed. This just show they are not that quite power efficient above a certain speed. All they provide with max rpm is a faster cool down after full load and a hell lot more noise. Server fans in a PC chassis is not the best experience. They could of course do a good job in Dells overpriced Alienware gaming desktops who already have awful and inadequate cooling. But for me... Stamp = Failed.

Amazing noisy and screamy compared to EK-Furious Vardar FF5-120 (3000rpm) or Noctua NF-F12 iPPC-3000 PWM fans. Yep, a very special noise sound compared to my favorite fans above.
