Just for giggles, I put the 4090 in the second PCIe slot on the Dark mobo and connected everything. Booted from the 3060 Ti in the primary slot and loaded Windows. Nothing in Device Manager. It does not even detect that it is in the slot, which is consistent with the BIOS error D6 (no graphics device found).

Sounds like something besides the memory in that situation.

Either way, that sounds like an AP (Amazon Problem) not a YP (You Problem).

Been dialing in DDR5 timings all afternoon and I am pretty disgusted with the stock XMP timings G.Skill provides for their 7600 kit. Finished primaries. Working on secondaries and bandwidth, latency are all better but especially the cache R/W/C speed improvements are substantial.

I'll be curious to see what flight run benchmarks are in WoW compared to DDR4 after this 48hr lockdown on timings is over.

I do have a question though. Is this bios reset light on the bottom supposed to be stuck on white 24/7?

White tells you that BIOS #1 is selected. If you  move the selection switch to BIOS #2 it will turn a really icky bright red color.  Both of the bright LEDs suck, but the red is a whole lot worse.

I agree. It acts like it has an onboard fuse that is blown or something. It was working fine. I wasn't using the computer when it stopped working, it was just idling with nothing open except for Outlook.

I would if I could get it for $1799 USD after Amazon refunds my money. But, I don't want to pay $2,000+ for a GPU. Too much. Even $1800 is too much. Since the only reason I want it is for benching, and I don't make any money benching or get cherry picked parts for free, it is too much money just for fun. That ludicrous cost starts taking the fun out of it if I think about how much it cost me, and then I start regretting it. As soon as I've benched it as far as it can go, then I start regretting it all over again because all the fun and games are over at that point and there is not left to do that is exciting.

You are a lucky man my friend. You have more options to get cheaper HW and you avoid taxes on such parts as here home or in EU. Not 10, 12 or 15% on top. If you get a card at $1800 in US then I have to pay $2250. And for that price you'll get the cheapest of the gamer cards. If thats the only option I would let it be and instead go for a cheap used card. For my needs. I don't want spend money on a card I don't want. Cheap or expensive doesn't matter. If I don't like it... I don't buy it.

It could be anything, although obviously it doesn't look like a typical VRAM issue. One last thing you could try is blow some air/vacuum clean it robustly in case some piece of debris caused a short or something. Super far fetched of course.

I feel like these Amazon deals are often repackaged (sometimes barely) open boxes. Someone may have noticed some worrying symptoms before you and returned it, then you delivered the coup de grace during initial benching. There may have been a short period when it was still there but bleeding out so to speak. All that said I would still be rather careful with Micron memory.

Looks like Roman is having issues with the Strix 4090 not functioning in 16x mode. I think he is right about the memory. I have noticed that on Port Royal scores as well. Applied to 3090 as well.

It kind of makes sense when you consider that Chinese people are generally not very large people. Those gloves are probably "normal" size in their culture. They are generally not very tall and do not have large hands or feet. They are generally healthier though, due to diet and lifestyle.

The word is that SK Hynix and Samsung memory is better.

It was an issue for sure on 20-series. GDDR Memory (including Micron) has improved with time, but I generally agree that SK Hynix and Samsung are preferred for both GDDR and system memory. Micron is generally fine for normal use scenarios, but usually does not overclock well. That seems to not be true though with GDDR6X. Micron clocks right along fine with GDDR6X, but no intel on whether or not it is durable.

The link I posted earlier had people hint at durability issues. Again the conservative approach here would be to assume that the skunk hasn't really changed its stripes :)

In practice the stripes may have improved, but the 4090 is a relatively new card, will need more time and bold overclockers to guinea pig this and verify the reliability profile over time.

I paid $1799 for the 4090 Suprim Liquid X and other than the HOF like you have it is the best 4090 money can buy. Excluding the HOF it is at the top of the food chain in terms of power delivery design and probably has no match except for the Strix that is never available and always overpriced, and has a terrible warranty by a horrible company. I would definitely pay the extra to get the HOF, but I would not pay extra for a Strix. I would accept a Zotac AMP Extreme AIRO if I could get it for $1799, or a Suprim X (no liquid). The only thing I did not like about the Liqud X was the AIO cooler. I never even removed the plastic film on it because I had no intention of leaving it.

Being able to identify with certaintly exactly what brand of VRAM is going to be used by a particular OEM on a particular GPU model is challenging. We have seen examples of them using what is available to them, which might fluctuate to some degree.

LOOL, and thanks. There is still an major difference. A screen provide info, not pure bling bling show for entertainment as in a nightbar/strip show and not very useful with fans spinning in Red, blue or whatever colors.  More as you put on white paint on the  big letters on your car's tyres. This won't make your car run faster. And you can detach the screen and put it whatever place I want in the chassis or on top of it (magnets/stands on the back side). I don't need have to have it right in sight or connected to the GPU.

Want real bling bling. Maybe buy the card "What the F... version"😀

Micron developed it, but according to the below, it's also manufactured by Samsung.

I don't know. But the upper elite (the chosen ones) use the best binned Hof cards and they come with Micron.

I have not seen Samsung or Hynix GDDR6X (only GDDR6 - no X). My Kingpin card Micron. My 3060 Ti FTW3 has Samsung GDDR6 (no X). You can see what brand the memory is on the main tab of GPU-Z.

That's reassuring I guess, hopefully I'm barking up the wrong tree with this Micron thing. Of course, we don't know if the card didn't die shortly after the record score was achieved.

I'll be returning my MSI Z690 Unify-X for a few reasons:

Primary reason: I think I know why this was an open box model. It keeps shutting down randomly under any type of heavy load when the VRMs are pushed >225w. CB23 or even CB15 will just shut down. It is consistent in its randomness. If I cap or keep the pull around 200w it never shuts down. This is with temps well under 80 >225w.

Secondary Reason: After tweaking and optimizing the DDR5 and seeing nice (really nice) gains in WoW vs standard XMP timings  it still can't match the DDR4 sticks in performance. It's close enough that if this was my first board / DDR5 combo I would have kept it but I still have the Strix D4 and B-Die sticks. Aida64 looks great, the numbers are there and locking it to 5.3 all core E-cores disabled to match my DDR4 setup. I'll revisit DDR5 during the next round (or with X3D depending on how it performs) I did have a blast tuning and working with it though and it is the future but 7400 DDR5 tuned can't quite beat out 4100 DDR4 tuned. I'd be curious to see what 7600+ could do with another board also down the road.

Good thing is I can sell these Trident lovelies and just keep the M-die for a potential X3D buildout since they top out at 6600 and X3D sweet spot is 6000 and usually tops out at 6200 if I end up going that route.

Yeah Micron isn't bad nowadays. They had the problems with the early Turing cards, but other than that no problems. Though, as everyone else has said, Hynix and Samsung are the preferable vendors for VRAM as their VRAM tends to clock higher (especially Samsung on newer cards.)

Before Micron, there was Elpida, and they were truly bad. I'm glad they got bought out by Micron and can't put their garbage on GPUs anymore but Fermi and Kepler will continue to be haunted by their mere presence lol. A lot of the jokes about Micron memory being bad are because early Micron chips were really just rebranded Elpida garbage...

I'm quite sure the Micron GDDR6 chips is very faragile. And if you bench hard and cold no memory chips enjoy the cold temps.

Then we have Samsung... The nand chips for their newer ssd's dying in loads. And there is a reason for dynamic voltage for coming memory chips. They all become more and more fragile the higher speed they get. New and faster come at a price.

One ting I have read... The AIC board partners use some batches of faster GDDR6X vram tuned down to slower speed to match nvidia's specs. So the vram overclock is a lottery. Same with which vram that will have a short lived life. All boil downs to the lottery.

The sons NZXT H7 Flow ain't the smallest mid size Chassis out there. But the HOF or any of the bigger AIC cards from 408 and upwards will fill it up and require a full change for the custom cooling. Smaller tank and mount it on the fans. But easly possible. No need to change for a smaller AIO.

The Asus 3070 in the background looks like a small baby compared😎

I do not think there is a way to tell in Linux. Nobody doing Linux software development cares enough to have taken time to do it. They might be Linux enthusiasts, but it seems that none (or very few) are actually performance PC hardware enthusiasts. Those that are use Windows for that and Linux for everything else.

As suspected once in the capital city where player data and RT are in full effect, CPU is bottlenecking my 4090 like a beast at 5120x1440. I sat there watching the CPU bounce off of 90-100% over and over while the GPU sits there at 55-65% tops.

FPS are right around 70-90fps tops too in Valdrakken while the 4090 is waiting on my 12900k at 5.2 all core. (All the shadow and lighting on the Dragon is RT).

I know raids are going to be brutal with all the spell effects and RT being thrown around.

Where are the performance advantages? Maybe Mr. Azor will bring it back?😎 Oh' I forgot... He rule in the Graphics/Gaming department.

But, this is a pure gaming chips. Maybe he have come up with some good advices he learned from Dell? Less is more. And newer has to be better. Always.

The haul...

Edit:

I noticed these odd spots on the die side of the IHS. I'm assuming they are fine, but do they indicate anything bad or are they just a byproduct of how these IHSs are milled?

I wasn't expecting anything outside of gaming gains with the increased cache kinda like what happened with the 5800X3D.

Hopefully we see some meaningful gaming gains with the 7800X3D.

I had a couple of those and I never saw spots like that. I can't say whether they are harmless or not.

Is that for your 8700k or a 9900k?
