I'm flat broke right now, but does anyone know of a prebuilt machine thats worth saving up for? or are they all junk. I found one with a 4070 but it was expensive and had a KF cpu. I take it they cannot be overclocked, if im going desktop I want to overclock the crap outta whatever I settle with. and well I was thinking a 4080 or 4090 would be in order, but at 3000-4000 is it worth it.

Forget 4080 as of now. The prices is 200-300$ too high. None should pay 1150-1200$ for cards that should cost 800$ included inflation. At least not above 850-900$ for the best custom cards.

The better pre-built machines are from companies like Origin, DigitalStorm and NZXT. NZXT sells good quality kits with very good instructions for noobs that want to built their first PC from scratch.

I mean Gamers Nexus test out pre-built machines. Maybe worth look into that channel. The review websites as tomshardware, Pcworld, hothardware etc are not credible and are just paid shill. I would avoid those if I was looking after pre-built machines.

Probably starting around $3500 and going up if you get the best CPU and motherboard and PSU and AIO cooling offered.

So, I received my custom Raijintek water cooling kit, and found that I have a crap load of XSPC soft tube fittings left over to convert it from the rigid tube. Just need to find the time to get it installed. From what I can see, the kit seems pretty solid. Will post pics as I am putting it together.

Considering $1500+ for a 4090, and $500+ on a CPU 😳

Remembering when the GeForce II GTs 64mb came out at something like $499...hahaha.

The trick is realize what is the top and take a couple steps back as yesteryear's products are still quite potent for most people.

Obviously this thread will skew that a bit but you have to realize that this group seeks the top of the mountain, actively.

The laptop I have sitting aside for now still plays everything, just need to replace the gpu and presto I'm gaming just like the rest of them on a 9700F @ 4.5 and a 1080/2080 maybe 3080.

You could also look at AM4 if budget is the principle focus. It's a bit inversed to say budget but also 4090. It's not a good idea as that would mean you are likely cutting corners everywhere else, shoddy motherboard, shoddy Psu both which aren't desirable with a 4090.

Well, this has never happened to me from a retailer before....

I bought both my 7800X3D and 7950X3D from best buy.

I've been running my 7800X3D the last week or so and finally went to go switch over to my 7950X3D.

Cracked the seal, installed it and up pops a 7950X

I double checked in the BIOS, yep, 7950X.

Uninstalled it and yep it's a 7950X. I didn't even notice because the box was sealed and a 7950X3D box.

So did it appear to be factory-sealed and packaged wrong by AMD? It clearly says 7950X on the IHS, but that X3D missing could be easily overlooked by accident if you're buying a new factory-sealed box processor.

That or a misprinted or wrong IHS applied. If it had popped up as a 7950X3D when installed I would have been fine either way and just shrugged it off as a printing error / wrong IHS installed.

It just seems to not be someone swapping it because where's the value? The difference is $100 (or less) between the CPUs at this point. It would be different if it was an IHS sealed on top of a like a 1700 or even a bottom barrel 7000 series chip like a 7600 but it is a full fledged 7950x??

Either that or someone in the chain has a 7950x and figured a quick swap would be a nice and free upgrade and Johnny end user wouldn't notice it isn't an X3D?

I left a couple of review on Best Buy for both the 7800X3D and 7950X3D fiasco that should be showing up in the next few days. I'll probably post it to their forums too just in case it is numerous CPUs either by error or maliciousness.

EDIT: Looks like Best Buy doesn't have forums anymore?

Well, the name on the IHS matches the product if I am understanding correctly. It is, in fact, a 7950X like what is laser-etched on the IHS, right? If the box was factory-sealed it had to have come that way from AMD. At least they didn't have the kind of mess that I got from B&H Photo where I was sold an open-box (paid for new) with a Haswell CPU that some scammer glued a 10900K IHS on top of.

For those with an AMD GPU, check out this overclocking tool. Once you have increased your power limits using MPT, this is a whole lot more convenient to use than the Wattman bloatware.

I had never heard of it before. It hasn't been updated recently, but it seems to work great on my 6900 XT. I totally like the minimalist Windows 7-style GUI that doesn't waste a ton of screen space on giant text crap with lots of unused space in the UI. (Don't know why that ugly crap look is so popular now, but I think it sucks.)

I have to say I am super-impressed with the IceMan block. I am thinking about buying another and selling the SuperCool block just because the IceMan looks better and is like a bazillion times more convenient to remove and install. I still haven't taken time to mess with the EK block. I've really lost interest in farting around with it at this point. If someone wants to buy it and the new parts EK sent to me send me a PM. The IceMan doesn't look as gorgeous as the EK Velocity2, but even if it works as well as the IceMan block, the convenience of using the IceMan is making me not want to use anything else at this point. I value that more than the superior aesthetics of the Velocity2.

I also found out why my temps were a bit high on the system with the IceMan block. The 91°C max temp in CBR23 was because there was air trapped in the block. My PrimoChill D5 pump/res was allowing air to get sucked into the loop and it could never eliminate the bubbles. I replaced it with an Alphacool pump/res and now the temps are much better. One of the things I have always LOVED about my XSPC Photon reservoirs is the tubes are thick glass, not chintzy acrylic tubes. I chose the Alphacool option because the tube is glass. No regrets. I like it a lot. Here is a picture of it in action.

Banshee.jpg

This first image is with the same BIOS settings where it was hitting 91°C. Now about 8-10°C better.

6dhJ8Vj.jpg

Now, kicking the clock up to 5.7 from 5.6 on P-cores, the 13900KF (which uses 0.050mV more than my 13900K due to inferior bin quality) essentially matches the temps seen on the SuperCool Computer direct die block. Check it out.

Windows 10/11 do the same stupid thing to my 6900 XT. I thought something was messed up at first, but running the GPU-Z render test showed the PCIe bus speed working correctly when the GPU was being utilized. The power-saving features on newer versions of Windows really suck. They're catering to turdbook owners that stress out over how long they can run their junky notebooks on battery power.

If your BIOS has the option to search it works pretty handy. I use that often to locate a setting when I am not sure about what menu to look at to find it.

It was the "above 4g crypto" setting in the bios. I ran the little render test, and it didn't change from 1.1, so I knew it was something in the bios.

Since you're stuck using W10/11 cancer like everyone else with a current gen GPU you should probably enable resizable bar support. I haven't noticed anything with a performance regression having it in enabled. In most things you will not notice any benefit to having it enabled, but turning it on will bring a minor performance improvement in a few benchmarks and games.

Apparently, resizable bar support makes a massive difference having it enabled with Intel iGFX or Arc graphics and disabling it tanks performance.

Nvidia pushing back Blackwell GPU till 2025 due to poor demand and economic downturn....

I'll gladly ride my 4090 for the next ~2.25yrs and you can keep that 4090ti that will most likely come out late 2024 for a marginal bump*
