Ditto. I plan on picking up a 8000+ set of sticks. I figure if it turns out to be a nothing burger this generation of AMD processors (but AMD setting the memory infrastructure for future CPU releases) I can just swap them into my MSI Z790i where I can push them to 8000+.

7900xtx is a good GPU for its price:performance. It does seem to scale better than Nvidia performance wise when overclocked and an overall worthy 4080 competitor for raw performance.

It really does feel like the writing is on the wall for EVGA these days with chronic out of stock on just about anything new and lots of b-stock and refurb blow outs.

Hopefully not, but here is a last hurrah to everything awesome about EVGA:

Yeah if you listen he says he's going to just take his NVMe drives out of his current AM5 rig and drop them in and run this rig. That's JaySpeak for, "I'm giving up on AMD" 😉 He's had issues and problems with his 7950x build for awhile now.

watching it right now, you misheard. hes gonna use the evga rig as his workstation at work. the AM5 build is his private rig at home 🙂 but yeah, he does that a lot, just dumping drives from one machine into another, triggers me every time 🥲

Now sole distributor of rebranded half cheapo PSUs with short warranty and a few pc peripherals. There is more into this with EVGA than just that Nvidia become too greedy for them. The Nvidia move was just an camouflage for their major change in their business. Let it sink in... First do the graphics card stunt to get sympathy, then follow up later and kill the rest of their major HW lineup. Nice put all the blame on Nvidia and not on themself going out of business. Yep, I don't trust what come from EVGA forewards. EVGA is finished or better say dead as a real PC HW/OEM company....

Sounds about right for me mishearing 😅 as I do end up working and watching at the same time and end up backing up parts of YT videos numerous times as my mind focuses on the task at hand. The more complex the task at hand the more I tune out (IE,  general surfing = follow accurately, Wordle/Quordle/Sudoku/etc.. = I follow fairly accurately, Working on hardware = 50/50, Xcode/VS = not so much, wife in my ear = not at all...automatic rewind ).

I didn't know he upgraded to the X3D but his problems seem to persist  with his Crosshair (along with him souring on Asus in general).

I'm with you on just moving drives from one system to the next. I have my drives and externals set up so a re-install is pretty straight forward. I even do it on my main rigs on what seems to be a monthly basis it's so streamlined.

After some discussion with Northwest Repair, he will be sending the 2080s back without repair. He is struggling to find schematics for the thing and was having trouble probing around on the back of the card due to how my adapter is. I don't blame him for anything at all as he always told me he couldn't guarantee it would get fixed. He did tell me he noticed that the card is missing 3.3v going into the phase controller and that something is lowering it to 0.73 volts.

All I can think of to do now is to teach myself how to fix this card... I want it working, and the sooner it gets fixed the better 🙂

Speaking of using the EVGA machine for work... spent all weekend doing the EK AIO testing for the review and building this for review. Very well-made. Was a terrible pain in the butt doing the mods for my external loop. It was sobering to be reminded of why I hate air cooling. Glad it is over.

welp cant blame him for that after what Asus pulled with their beta bios limiting SoC voltage (to fix exploding CPUs) but at the same time voiding warranty 😛

as for his issues...dont know the full details but last thing i remember him mentioning was that he couldnt just set XMP and go but had to manually downclock to ensure stability.... anyone whos spent more than a minute RAM tweaking knows thats not how it works 😄 irrespective of the platform.

from my personal experience, the only gripe i had with AM5 thus far was that initially, getting into bios wasnt straight forward. if i was running off the dGPU via displayport, id never get the splash screen to enter Bios via F2 / Del, it would just boot straight into windows. so i purchased a USB4 to DP adapter cable to be able and switch monitor output to the iGPU quickly. once on the iGPU the splash screen for entering bios DID show up. this has since been rectified via bios updates.

other than that, havent had any platform stability issues whatsoever, very happy with my system 🙂 (even on an Asus Crosshair mobo 😛 😄 )

Based on my collective experiences with the brand, and especially my last one with 5950X, it is not likely I will give them any more chances to change my mind about them. I don't think they deserve my money or my forgiveness. And, you don't see me benching the 6900 XT any more because for some reason it has benchmark scores close to half what it used to and I have no idea why. Nothing seems messed up otherwise. Crazy, and it irks the crap out of me.

I'll have to play around and see if I can find what's up with the 6900 XT super low 3DMark benchmark scores. It seems to perform normally with anything else so I don't know if it's something that UL or Micro$lop did. And this surfaced a little over a month ago. I had my chiller fired up and everything nice and cold, geared up for a benching session and ended up abandoning the effort. I tried it a few times since then without chilled water and it's the same. Games play normally and all that, just 3DMark is messed up. I tested on multiple versions of Windows 10/11 as well.

I tried running Speedway the other day and my score was in the 3000s and Firestrike is about 2,500 points lower than normal.

Here's an even better deal. $64 for 2TB Intel M.2 ssd is quite good. I get an 500GB ssd for the same price here home😞

any comparable reports from other users on similar finicky behaviour? this is at stock clocks?

I haven't looked for reports from other users. Just too busy to make that a priority since everything else seems to be working correctly. I noticed it with overclocking, since there is no point in running benchmarks stock if you're doing that for fun versus diagnostics. After seeing it I did test stock and the issue is the same. The clocks hold, power draw is right and no throttling or thermal issues, just abnormally low scores. That's why I think the problem is 3DMark or Windows, not the GPU. I did try older drivers and the latest, and multiple Windows installations, and no change.

Same behavior for all different installed OS? Or only one OS installed on the workstation? You could also install an older version 3DMark for testing. A fast solution to test.

Yes, same problem on W10 LTSC 2019, W10 LTSC 2021 and the various versions of W11. I have not tried an older version of 3DMark yet, but I will when I have more time to experiment. The problem is consistent enough that it "feels like" 3DMark has a framerate limiter on the 6900 XT. I often wear a tin foil hat, but in this case the performance is so low that it would be evidence of malfunction more than manipulation. (No, I would not be surprised at manipulation of results for a nefarious purpose.)

If AMD were doing something crazy like paying UL to supress 6900 XT scores to sell new GPUs they would at least want the stock performance to be consistent to avoid raising suspicions of monkey business or foul play. (No, I would not be surprised to learn that AMD or NVIDIA did something like that. I would only be surprised by the mistake in not making it harder to spot the problem)

im experiencing the same thing, multiple installs of windows speedway is around 1500 when it should be around 2100-2200

also for some reason HDR says disabled in settings but im getting hdr like effects, all this on a clean install....it wouldn't suprise me if we were hacked. like it's not too crazy of an idea. its like a ton of settings have been modified without my involvement, mainly reg edits.

Ok I can confirm hack..installed avg full suite and vpn while offline and my scores for now are back up..2026 in speedway which is not the best s ore but it's alot better than 1500. Also avg picked up quite a bit of flaws. I guess I'll just have to annoy the hacker by changing my ip around often. Unreal didn't expect this I haven't been hacked in years it's not like the old school hackers doing ransom and just installing annoying scripts. Mr fox bro I know you hate anti-virus but try avg and see if it helps..if not just uninstall

Forgot to ask. Same also with other AMD graphics drivers (release drivers)?

When we first talk about AMD.... AMD prepare for more/increase in security vulnerabilities in the future.

AMD Expected to Increase Microcode Size for Future Processor Technologies

Phoronix has recently uncovered an intriguing Linux update, with kernel improvements being prepared to handle greater microcode payloads—they believe that "future AMD CPUs will be getting larger microcode patches." The timing could suggest that upcoming Zen 5 processors will be likely candidates to meet new requirements: "Right now the Linux kernel has a maximum microcode patch size for AMD CPUs that is three times the kernel's page size (typically 4K). But with a patch (published on July 20) that will "increase substantially" to eight times the page size. The increase is intentionally quite a magnitude larger in order to avoid future patches further having to bump the patch size limit in later generations."

This one popped up from the dark today... Nice name... Zenbleed🙂 Does not require physical access to the computer or server and can even be executed via javascript on a webpage. Just plug and play, LOOL

AMD 'Zenbleed' Bug Allows Data Theft From Zen 2 Processors, Patches ComingA huge Zen 2 leak requires a patch.

AMD's statement implies there will be some performance impact from the patches, but we'll have to conduct independent benchmarks when the patches arrive for the consumer Ryzen products. In the meantime, we've asked AMD for any ballpark figures it can share.

And nice to see that AMD don't bother release a new security patch before end of 2023 for their consumer chips. This means you still can have the same Cpu performance another 4 or 5 months 🙂

X3D on laptops? Yessir!

Ancient Gameplays with a nice breakdown of increasing AMD memory speeds.  Hopefully AMD can make major inroads with future releases to take better advantage of faster frequencies on DDR5 as right now AM5 feels like a 11th/12th gen mashup in regards to being able to properly take advantage of higher speeds (>7200) but we will see.

You risk basic mistakes also with being an firmware guinea pig. Within 3 days and you get a new one to try out.... Temped?😬 But awful see Dell Alienware go backwards into the future with same old cheapo made chassis to cut costs.
