On one hand, I am happy that AMD is supporting their past hardware with new features that aren't "hardware limited", on the other hand I want them to fix the issues that have been plaguing their cards for months now.

If @Mr. Fox ever gets tired of the 6900XT and AMD, let me know. If I can't get a 7900XTX or 4090 for a good price, I will be searching for a 69XX XT card again.

Looks like when I do eventually upgrade my 3090KP HC, I’ll be grabbing an AMD GPU. They offer good support for their prior gen stuff which is great. I haven’t owned an AMD GPU since RX480.

I cannot imagine you being satisfied with one and I would hate to see you waste $1,000 on something you're probably going to hate. Their best option isn't the best option, it is just a couple hundred cheaper option for an inferior product. 7900XTX runs neck-and-neck with 4080 until you try to play games with ray tracing, at which point the 7900XTX falls on its face.

https://www.techspot.com/review/2746-amd-radeon-7900-xtx-vs-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080/

Quote

The GeForce RTX 4080 boasts superior upscaling technology. While DLSS doesn't always vastly outshine competitors, it consistently provides the best image quality, particularly at lower resolutions like 1440p and potentially 1080p, , though we don't necessarily recommend it there.

The RTX 4080 also excels in ray tracing performance. With the recent introduction of ray reconstruction, there's potential for even better quality ray tracing, though this remains to be fully realized. Given that ray reconstruction is still in its infancy, we anticipate broader support in the upcoming months.

You can get a Galax 4090 SG on Amazon for under $1700 and that utterly destroys 7900XTX and 4080. If you are wanting a good 4K gaming experience you will need a 4090 to do it right, and if you look at the latest reviews of the "free" FSR3 it is a hot mess. Hardware Unboxed has a new video showing it is not that great.

The title is clickbait, as the review leads to an opposite conclusion. Caveat emptor.

So. Is Nvidia going to release refreshed cards or not? Most of the rumors up till now claims they weren't going to release anything to best the 4090 until 50 series...and I thought that was odd (yes even in today's economy).

I guess I will wait until the new year to make a decision.

My take on this. 4080 is overpriced. And we may see Intel try compete with 4070Ti/4080 performance at lower prices next year. There is no competition in 4090 class cards so why bother with a Ti. The heated up competition will be mid/higher tier up to 4080 perfomance. Then.... Nvidia need card to fill the gap between $900 and 4090. There you'll find the new 4080(S)Ti.

I really am looking forward to seeing how Battlemage works out.

If I were buying a GPU today and wanted the best performance, 4090 is the only logical option. The price is idiotic, even for the cheapest one, but still "worth it" in the general sense that it is better to overpay for something good than to overpay for something not so good. If I could not purchase a 4090, the next option would be 4080 if I needed one today. It is a poor value and I would try very hard to come up with the extra $400-$500 to purchase a 4090 instead. Well, Kryosheet is crap. Doesn't work worth a damn,  unless you think normal high end thermal pastes are good. In that case it is probably awesome. It just can't handle an overclocked 13900KS at all. It performs on par with popular thermal pastes, which is unacceptable for an overclocked CPU. I view it as a totally unusable product for that. I saved it with zero damage and may try it on my laptop someday when I run out of things to do. @Papusanyou were curious. How 'bout no, LOL.

Brother @Talonsent me a tube of Honeywell PTM7958. Thank you so much! It performs about the same as KPX or other popular thermal pastes. So, yeah... not good enough for an overclocked 13900KS. It is much firmer than the thermal putty EVGA used on the 3090 KPE VRMs. I did spread it and got excellent coverage. It will be amazing for a laptop or a GPU that doesn't pull as many watts. There is no question in my mind that it will be durable, and the perfect solution for sloppy-fitting turdbook heat sinks. This is perfect for that. It is easily removed using a thermal paste spatula. It comes off like soft wax. When I need to repaste the 4090 I will probably use the PTM7958 paste. The pad equivalent worked amazing on the 6900 XT and the 4090 doesn't get nearly as hot as the 6900 XT. Removing my water block, it pulled the CPU (that was taped down for bare die) out of the socket. It suck well enough that the tape could not hold it down.

I got it more than hot enough to melt, and it absolutely melted and got phenomenal coverage. I let my system cool overnight to normalize with ambient temperature and tried it again this morning and the temps were as unacceptable as they were last night. I did not save a screenshot. I must have forgotten. But, there's nothing to see. Look at the Kryosheet temps (above) and shuffle the core order and that's what it was. Same thing basically.

Thanks for the testing bro Fox 🙂 So in short.... Equal disgusting as this mess below. Waste of money when there is much better options out there.

I watched the news and heard the warnings but thought I was ok. I've had it 5 months with no issues. Until yesterday.

Another melted 4090 story

Does this means the +85.000 buyers got message that they risk burned up cards? Nope, only recall can help stop this madness. This fun will continue long into 2024.

The end result is exactly what I expected it to be, so no surprises. But, the only way to know for sure is to confirm through actual use, or attempted use. I expect poor performance from all products. It's up to those selling them to prove themselves to not be liars and snake oil salesmen.

I’ve got this 13900KS screaming! And, it’s only using 380 watts during Cinebench R23.

I pulled this CPU again tonight and, sure enough my direct die cold plate was clogged. (This always happens when I go messing around with tubing etc, and adding new things to my loop)

Anyways, 63C MAX package temps @6.1P/4.8E/5.0R is really good for a below average 13900KS.

Nothing would surprise me in this regard, but it would be premature to assume the prices posted by this particular store exemplifies what normal prices will be. Scalping is the new normal and getting screwed with above MSRP pricing has become common because stupid people pay stupid prices to get what they want when they want it. That is as sad and pathetic as the scalping, and perpetuates the problem.

Thanks for the in depth testing @Mr. Fox! So basically high end thermal paste without the mess and works best on GPUs and laptops but for direct die and/or LM scenarios it doesn't stack up. I think this is basically the same results JayZ achieved comparing it to KPX but reusable and without the mess.

@jaybee83@electrosoftSo, how is it that I am 10 loops stable with memtest64, but I get random restarts during a 24 hour period? Maybe its not a memory speed thing, and more of a bios thing still?

Did you run TM5 and WMD too?

It might not be memory related.

Random as in sitting on the desktop doing nothing or?

Yes, as soon as I hit the reply button to the above post, my screen went black, and rebooted. Fresh install of Win 10 22H2 LTSC. I leave my system running all weekend, and it will reboot for no reason. I figured I was having stability issues with the 8000mhz ram. I think I will set everything to auto in the bios, and see if it happens. This board has been a little sketchy for me, doing some weird stuff, like images showing the drive order in the bios being corrupted, not saving certain bios changes, hanging after hitting "save and reboot", resetting cmos not loading defaults.

I found a IHS covered in Liquid Metal to use on my 13900KS so I could sell it, I lost the original IHS somewhere. So I used Flitz polish to remove all of the LM on this 13th gen Rockitcool copper IHS, this is how the IHS looks now lol. No sanding at all! Just a towel and Flitz. 😱

That could be motherboard or GPU. But, the odd behavioral issues you mentioned make me think the motherboard is more likely. Has it been doing weird stuff all along, or recently started? If it started more recently, have you tried reflashing the BIOS?

Can you find anything in Windows Event Viewer that occurs at the time of the reboot that might give you some clues?
