Technically mine was broken too. But I was able to fix it. That little metal clip will fall off and it’s like a tip sensor almost for safety. So when the chillers ships chances are it won’t turn on.

The fusible link holder in mine, broke - completely disintegrated in my hands. I could easily fix it but I haven't dedicated the time to. I thought about selling it several times, but it is not something most people would want locally and shipping this thing would be costly. So it sits.

Unrelated topic...  but, also relating to black screen issues.

If you or anyone you encounter is having random black screen issues with a 4090, don't automatically blame the GPU. I had this annoying issue with the Strix and MSI Suprim on the Dark mobo and the problem followed it to the Apex mobo. It might be fine for days and then suddenly everything stays black and I had to reboot, sometimes more than once, to get the screen to light up. This was with my 165 Hz 1440p screen and my 144Hz 4K. I was using an expensive DP 1.4 cable that I had been using for a few years.

Out of curiosity and frustration I started playing around with cheap HDMI cables and the screen would never go black using HDMI. Everything worked fine. But, I could only run the displays at 60 Hz with the cheap HDMI cable. So, I bought a more expensive DP 2.0 cable. Same issue. Didn't help. Cheap HDMI was fine, but expensive DP cable had random black screen issues. The DP 2.0 cable I purchased had an issue with the housing at the end falling apart where it plugs into the monitor. I could not press the button to release the hooks because the housing was getting loose. So much for the idea of getting what you paid for. But, lucky for me it was junk because that helped me identify the issue was, in fact, the cable being used and not the GPU.

So, I purchased an even more expensive DP 2.1 cable rated for 8K @ 120Hz and 80 Gbps bandwidth. Problem solved. No more random black screens. Works flawelessly now. I installed this cable on October 5 and haven't had a single black screen issue even once.

Quite the opposite for me. The ARC A770 does not like any HDMI cable when connected to my old 165Hz 1440p Asus monitor on my test build. When I reboot the test rig, it will black out. I would have to power the monitor off and on again to get it to show windows. I connected a cheap DP cable and it works perfectly.

I can't say it is the monitor because on any other build, using AMD or Nvidia cards, HDMI works.

Similar type problem with my (well now my nephew's) Arc A380. Connected to a Viotek 22" 144hz display via HDMI and it would consistently black out / flicker / strobe when running anything that stressed the GPU. Same display worked fine swapping in the 6700xt and 3070. Testing the display on my main desktop and 4090 worked fine. Only the Arc A380 didn't like it regardless of HDMI cable.

Same Arc A380 worked fine on the Dell 24" 240hz display I gave to my nephew along with my BenQ 32" 4k. It just did not like that particular display no matter what. DP worked fine on that display though.

I have chalked it all down to bandwidth limitations when the A770 is connected to this particular Asus monitor (PG279Q - IPS). I believe it's about five years old now. The speakers don't work any longer, but it works quite well when I am testing hardware.

Thanks for the testing. What with cancer driver install versus NVCleanStall modding on same exact OS? Or did you test the different driver install on same OS?

Nvidia only want to give you the bare minimum with the SUPER refresh... . For the RTX 4080 SUPER, this implies a 320W TDP, while the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is expected to feature a 285W TDP. The only exception is the RTX 4070 SUPER, which would see a 20W increase in power. What's the problem give the 4080 SUPER 400W TDP and slight bump in voltage to utilize higher TDP?

Btw. I put in my 14900K. Not a lottery winner. 102P and 80P for the E-cpores. Oh'well it's what it is.  The 14900KS is probably out middle/late January if I bother spend more money.

Still having black screen / 100% fan issue after switching to 1.1 180° adapter

Had problems with the black screen / 100% fan issue so i ordered a 1.1 version of the 180 angled adapter, received it 2 weeks ago. All has been working well for 2 weeks but i just had another black screen / 100% fan again today quickly after launching a game.

Yeah, my 13900KS is only SP104. But on direct die she clocks well above her SP rating! And, it has a really good good good IMC! I love my 13900KS. I have had this KS CPU for a good while maybe like 7-8 months daily usage now. And no degradation at all.

Your 14900K chip already looks impressive to me though, seeing that 5,923Mhz 4.7Ghz E-y-cruncher and only 355 watts? 😎 I will bet that 14900K is gonna be a monster on direct die. 😃 I say, delid it and unleash the beast. 🙂

Ohh the fuse holder thing with a spring on the side? Mine broke too. I had to wire those two wires together inside to cancel it. That was a while back though! You already got a chiller, I’d just take the time and wire it up or cancel out the fuse. Also, make sure the temp sensor is plugged in firmly! It’s a small black connector with very thin red and black wires. The pins in the connector pushed out on mine and water temps were reading crazy on the LCD. Anyways, at least (3) things I have fixed on mine for no cost which is nice, because I thought it was gonna be a major failure buying this unit lol and it’s actually been the total opposite of that.  It has been down maybe a total of like 15 minutes since I’ve had it. It’s always on and ready for that compressor to kick. 😎 it’s always attached to my work PC and it always cools water very cold!

Thanks..... And here we go brother Fox. The cancer compadres do it big in latest Steam Survey, LOOOL

Latest Steam survey sees AMD and Windows 11 crash as a new top language appears techspot.com

2023-11-02-image-3-p_1100.webp

One of the biggest (but not the biggest) changes last month was in the operating system section. Almost 40% of participants preferred Windows 11 in August's survey, but Microsoft's latest OS fell 1.79% a month later and has now crashed by a massive 6.9%. Windows 10, meanwhile, is up 7.61% for an overall total share of 65%. It seems the Redmond company's quest to get everyone onto Windows 11 needs an extra push.

Edit. Yup, 4x8pins would be fantastic.... But Nvidia and their board partners don't like increased costs.

$3800 USD ? That's more expensive than the 4090 Matrix in limited samples🥴 Yep, a good bin but sub $1000 more than MSRP in many regions. Pay to play, LOOL

From the link... P.S. Anyone wondering, there's virtually a highly scarce and non existent market in this country for enthusiast hardware hence the price.

So if you buy from certain countries you should pay huge premium for used items? Hmmm.

Great GPU but not $3800 worth of good. How 'bout no. Let someone more foolish than I (which is very foolish, LOL) blow an extra grand on it. I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. I won't pay a 1/3 to 1/2 premium for a golden CPU and I won't for a GPU either. Just not worth if for something that will be replaced by something stronger and faster in a short period of time. I might if I could enjoy playing king of the hill for 2 or 3 years.

@Papusan

@Mr. Fox

Quick note: It is not $3800. He is selling the 4090HOF GPU and HOF PSU together for $2,800. He is selling a binned Z790 Asus Extreme which is discontinued for $1,200 and all together he wants $3,800 for all (3) items (If you want all (3) items). Also, If I’m not mistaken, his Z790 Extreme is rare these days hence that $1200.  (He is also open to a RTX3090 with $1,562 cash on top for the 4090HOF and HOF PSU)

@electrosoft He has an awesome Civic Type R RHD, one of the new ones. The car is just ridiculous lol.

Anyways, I thought he was asking a reasonable pretty price for the GPU and PSU together. He’s probably even negotiable 😎

$2800 for the GPU and PSU is a fair deal and it is clearly a good sample. I don't think paying a lot more for a good sample is intelligent or wise, but it does avoid the tragedy of getting screwed with trash silicon quality. I wouldn't want to pay much more than new retail price for a used part even if it is an excellent silicon sample. It's a used part and that makes it worth substantially less.

At $2800 it is like getting the PSU for free if you are measuring based on new retail prices rather than used part prices. I would be interested in buy it from him if I can come up with the cash before it is gone, but I would also first want to check the Galax warranty policy. If it only extends to the original purchaser then I would likely pass and buy a new GPU direct from Galax instead. If memory serves me correctly, Galax is one of the dirty rotten stinkers when it comes to warranty support.

With the MB refresh, we don't know how far 2 DIMMs will go in them but past experiences show it may be problematic. We'll need some guinea pigs, er, buyers to give them a whirl and see.

If the Apex Encore is any indication, there is no sudden memory gains (or the IMCs / DIMMs are hitting a wall) so 4 dimm boards aren't suddenly going to become 8000+ dominant.

@Mr. Fox

So $2600 for the GPU and PSU with room to negotiate really isn't that bad actually especially for above average silicon and absolutely bonkers memory. Only downside is zero warranty.

I'm surprised you didn't pick it up or work a trade for your 3090 with it.

There is no point check Galax warranty. He said there is no warranty because he got it from China so just use it as is. And if I want buy used parts I don't buy not needed parts I need to sell back in the used market to grab back my money.

I did not notice that info about no warranty. In that case I would not purchase it unless the price was about half what he wants for it. With no warranty, might as well buy a new cheap 4090 and do the Elmor voltage mods. The attraction to the Galax HOF is you don't need to do those warranty-voiding mods. You get to have the cake and eat it, too. Absent that attraction there is no incentive to purchase it.

Imagine you buy the card then test it. A couple of days later it fails or it fails first time you put it in your pc. You are on the mercy on help from the seller. And the sell also don't got an warrranty so you two need to fix a deal to reduce costs/loss. Who will fully pay for the problems forwards? Or right after you got it? And what if the HW works ok the first two weeks then you run into problems?

$3800 USD is still a lot money even if you got unnecessary hardware you didn't need inluded in the deal. Not all deals is as good as you think. But all can be lucky. Or the opposite. This is normally not a problem for me... I often buy a lot used old stuff but very cheap so the loss won't be huge. I can easly live with a loss of 30-80$ on used items. But ++2.5K$ down the drain would be much harder to swallow.

Yeah, that would be a devastating loss for anyone that works hard for their money like most of us do.  That kind of risk-taking is only smart for the wealthy people that have tons of disposable income.

Battle of the MSIs 🤣

MSI 7900xtx was an $826 dollar Amazon Warehouse open box so they are crazy hit or miss. Luckily this one was a really good hit. I wanted to go Asrock or Nitro but they are both outside the range of all realistic ITX cases which all seem to cap out at 330mm and the Nitro is basically a quad slot on top of it (3.5) and Asrock a full 3 slot. MSI is smidge under 3 slots and 325mm in length.

So much quieter and cooler than the XFX 7900xtx w/ 55 max GPU and 75 Hot spot max and minimal coil whine with no harmonic fluctuations.

I haven't looked at the Strix Z790i yet, but the fact no original box and the board was just floating around does not bode well. Quick look and I'm thinking some accessories are missing so we'll see. I've had a string of hits from Amazon Warehouse so I'm due a miss methinks. 🤔

MSI Z790i Edge + MSI 7900xtx Gaming vs MSI X670e + MSI Suprim Liquid X 4090 (Switch Joycons are my daughter's 🙂 ).

GaUyN0A.jpg

Pure stock run no OCs on the CPU or GPU along with the 8000 sticks at XMP 8000 no tweakage/dial ins (yet). Temps are great on the AIO (72 tops again) and GPU (55 core / 75 Hotspot) with fans really not even hitting their stride.

I think buying a higher quality sample is worth it if you care about maxing your system, and if the premium is reasonable(5-10 percent) but as bro@Mr. Fox mentioned in a short period of time there will be something new to blow it out of the water. I went with a 3060 because I planned on 1080p gaming and knew i'd skip 4k no matter how good it was, now im doing 4k gaming and the only thing that makes sense is putting up with low settings or dlss and just riding it out till the 6ks are released because on laptops we are not there yet And I doubt the 5k series will be able to do 4k/60 or higher on new AAA games if starfield is anything to go by.

on a more positive note after what felt like forever I finally cracked 9500 gpu score with my turdbook. 9700 overall I suppose considering I can't overclock the ram and am power limited its a pretty nice score. one thing I wonder is why when I get my highest timespy score yet my firestirke ultra score is lower than usual. there doesn't seem to be any consistancy with 3dmark.

That’s pretty impressive for a (4) Dimm board. You must have a good IMC. Can it run TM5 1usmus 3 cycles with that 8000 XMP? I think it’s maybe a 15 minute test for 48GB. If you’re running the A-Die 32GB sticks, then maybe 8-9 minutes.

MSI Z790i Edge is a 2 dimm ITX board rated for 8000+ 🙂 The sticks are 2x16GB Hynix 8000 G.Skill.

I do have an older set of 2x32GB 6000 G.Skill A-die in my X670E dialed in at the norma 6000l sweet spot, but I do want to see how far they will go. I'm going to see how far I can boot / post those 8000 sticks in the Edge first then swap over the 6000 A die 2x32 GB and see where they cap out.

I do plan on swapping in my Z790i + 7900xtx as my main rig and see how it fairs too just for fun before moving into ITX adventures 2.0.

@Papusan Good news! I used the Apex Encore original 0220 bios for a while now to get a good feel for how it really is. And I struggled to stabilize fast speeds on my 2x24GB sticks. The bios just wasn’t great.. What can I say. Coming from an OG white Apex this Encore has felt weaker. Was it the board? Was it the bios? I did not give up early though, because I also had growing pains on my Z790 APEX white motherboard too. I gave the Encore a solid chance, and I’m glad I did.

I just swapped over to the newest 0506 Asus Apex Encore bios tonight, I can say for sure “This bios” is absolutely better 100%. I keyed in 8400 XMP timings, 1.420 IVR TX, and 1.443V  IMC, with just an auto SA voltage of only 1.250V and with an increased 131,071 tREFI and it still passed 1usmus 3 cycles the very first try! BAM! Let’s go Apex Encore 😎. Woot woot.

(PS: This is using my OG 7200 sticks, I do not actually own the new 8400 sticks)

But so far so good! I have slowly stepped up in ram clocks, DDR5 8600 up next. Maybe I won’t have to swap motherboards back after all.

@Mr. Fox

I’m swapping back to my OG Z790 Apex Vanilla tomorrow. I did get 8400 stable on this. But, it’s really some weird other things happening and making me want to switch back. 🙂 I tried. I do like the board. But, I need reliability.

I flashed the new bios once I got the board. Both newer Apex boards is good (White and black). A lot better than the Z690 Apex who capped out at 7200. The best part with the Encore is the black color. I put 8000 for my small 2x16GB 7200 sticks. It seems it works quite ok’ish because it works very well in Y-cruncher. Now above 425W with this power virus🙄 Oh'weel, haven't time fiddle much with the ram. Have no time for that now. But I use 1.40 IVR TX, 1.431V IMC and Auto for the SA. The sticks run at 1.46 with 262xxx tREFI. Mind you, I use only a fan to cool the memory sticks. No WB for the sticks so not the best cooling for higher voltage and clocks.

I will test out more when I have more time....
